Where in Labview does a ODBC client write data?
I trying to Interface Labview with a ODBC client. Where do you specify the path that it will write the Information into? Is it the Path that you asign when you create the Database table?
What I usually do is use a *.udl file, a special file that ODBC stores information on connecting to a database. to create a file is very easy under windows (XP) create a new file, right click on desktop, select new and either select text or Microsoft data link. if you choose a text file remane it <name of link>.udl this extension will change it to a data link. The icon will change, double click on the file and it will walk you through connecting with a database file (I have only done this with access and I am by no means a database expert), you can test the connection. Use this file location to pass to the open database connection vi from the toolkit. Good luck,

How long does it take to write data from network analyzer
I am using LabVIEW to control two DC power supplies through GPIB-USB and I have a DAQ-6008 generating 8-bit digital output. I am connecting two DC power supplies and the 8-bit digital signal to my circuit and want to measure s parameters (all S11, S12, S21, S22) and write their magnitude and phase to a .txt file in my laptop. It worked but took about 1.5 minutes to write data (magnitude and phase of four s parameters) for a fixed DAQ output and fixed DC voltage by only sweeping 6 points. Is it a reasonable time? Because eventually I will have more than ten thousand combinations and need to record s parameters for all these combinations and it will take too long. I would like to know which part spends more time or how I can reduce the time to write four s parameters. Thanks a lot.

-So you mean I should delete some of the controls
in the front panel and make them a fixed value or default in the block
diagram to reduce the front panel controls
What Dennis is saying is that your front panel controls are only read once by your program. The are read at the beginning and the value is passed into the while loop. This is the value that will be used, even if you change the front panel. You can verify this by using highlight execution.
-What does it mean that I am
resetting the instrument each time?
Everytime you call the initialize VI, you send a command for the instrument to reset. This is not necessary, since you want your settings to remain for the entire program. You can reset it when you "first" start using it, but as your program keeps going, you do not need to reset it.
-Do I need the initialize VI and
close VI in every iteration or I should have them out of the loops so
all the instrument are initialized and closed only once throughout the
entire process?
That is exactly what you should do.
-For the network analyzer, when you said I only need the
VIs from initialize.vi to read data.vi (the second one from the end),
do you mean that I can delete the close.vi? and why does it make the
program faster?
You should probably add the close outside the loop, as good practise. I would still put the initialize outside the loop.
I hope this helps.

Hello,
Does LabView support a thin client or dumb terminal (diskless workstation) type of deployment? I have a need to run LabView on some sort of dumb terminal / diskless workstation. If someone has deployed LabView in this matter, please provide me all the details on how this was accomplished (software, hardware, etc.)
ThanksSorry, can't call you.
My first suggestion has nothing to do with LV. It is simply connecting as a remote client to the windows server and controlling the windows session on the server.
My second suggestion involved writing a program which will contact the PLCs directly using Modbus and get the data from them. As mentioned, you can find some Modbus client implementations for LV by searching the web (or, if you have LV 8 and the DSC module, I think it should come built in).
My third was writing 2 programs - one would run on the server and one on the client\s. The server program would be responsible for sending the data to the client and the client would be responsible for interacting with the user and sending the appropriate messages to the server. I already gave you pointers on what to search for (the example finder can be found by going to Help>>Find Examples and the site can be searched from the box at the top of the page, but make sure you don't search just the forums).
In both cases, you would need to design the program and the interface for the user.
Wi-Fi also has nothing to do with LV and is simply a way to form a wireless network. Any mobile device would almost definitely have support for it and buying an access point to form the wireless network is easy and cheap.
To learn more about LabVIEW, I suggest you try searching this site and google for LabVIEW tutorials. Here, here, here and here are a few you can start with and here are some tutorial videos. You can also contact your local NI office and join one of their courses.
In addition, I suggest you read the LabVIEW style guide and the LabVIEW user manual (Help>>Search the LabVIEW Bookshelf).

Unattended install of oracle ODBC client
Hi,
I'm trying to install the Oracle ODBC client on a W2K server. This server is a Terminal server. This server is being installed completely unattended. For one of our new programs on the server we need an ODBC connection to our Oracle Server. We tried the connection and it worked fine.
Now we need of course to make the installation unattended, and there comes the problem. I've been testing with responsefiles and silent install, but that gives me an error/warning that the "temporary location can not be openend. Verify the 'source'". I don't know what the message means.
Does anyone have an idea how I can do this installation without the oracle installer, or is there an easier way.
Or does anyone have a solution to this problem I'm having with the responsefile.
Thanks,
YOre,
after I try to change the inventory dir in the rsp file from
/op/ora to
/usr
ORACLE_HOME=/usr
s_mountPoint=/usr/datafiles
and try again

LDAP Client - write it new or use an existing one ?
Hi,
i am starting to work on a project where i should develop
a LDAP client who is connected to an existing LDAP server.
On this server is the whole employees directory of my company.
The task is that the client recieves a query like
find person xy and return name and telephone number if found.
My question is:
Can i use a client that is already available (free download)
and somehow hand over the search request, or is it better
if i just write a client, i guess, just for searching it wont be
a big programm... but I am not sure what classes i should use for that.
Is there any source code for a client like this already available or
could someone just post it here ?
Thankyou very much,
AnneI just got through writing an Employee Directory application that runs on a jsp last week. It was not that difficult, you may find this free ldap browser download useful...

Hey there! So I plugged in my ipod to my computer and it didn't show up where it normally does. I need to update my song list. How can I make it appear? It doesn't come up in iphoto either. A few days ago my sis plugged it into another computer but I don't know if she synched it to the other computer, and frankly, she won't remember. I have tried updating itunes, charging the ipod, restarting the ipod/computer, and the rest of what the apple site said to do. Ps I have the latest ipod touch
I need help stat! Please help!I'd say your sister messed up and your iPod is toasted.
Think about it... She plugged it in to another computer, she doesn't remember what she did (yeah, right), and now your iPod is not being recognized by your computer...
Also take into consideration how old is your sister, and how much does she know about electronics? -
when I see the usage on my iPod touch 4 they have categories for how much space is being used where. What does the "other" category contain? Like what could I delete on my iPod to get rid of the "other" category?
What is the Other on my iPhone and How to Remove It
An "other" larger than about 1 1/2 GB usually indicates that the "other" includes corrupted files.
First try:
"First you go settings/general/usage/music/then left swipe over music and press delete and you would think it deletes your music but it doesn't instead it deletes your other but make sure your ipod is connected to a computer while doing this"
as recommended by:
How do I get rid of "other" storage: Apple Support Communities
Next, usually restoring from backup eliminated the corrupted files. However, sometimes restoring to factory settings/new iPod is required.
To restore from backup see:

Error 10038 when trying to setup an ODBC Client DSN
TimesTen 7.0.5.0.0 as well as 11.2.1.4.0 on some PC's return a TCP Reset when an ODBC Client DSN attempts to connect. The trace in the tterrors.log file for the 11.2 release is:
10:54:59.64 Err : SRV: 13732: EventID=3| Socket send() failed. Error (10038). File: C:/ADE/pechan_install-pop/timesten/VisiChannel/oc/src/vostcpip.cpp; Line: 742

10:54:59.75 Err : SRV: 13732: EventID=68| Failed to read request from client. Closing connection without reply.
The Client displays a 10054 error code.
The errors with 7.0.5 are identical except for the line numbers:
10:56:35.87 Err : SRV: 10520: EventID=3| Socket send() failed. Error (10038). File: d:/TTBuild/main_0313/VisiChannel/oc/src/vostcpip.cpp; Line: 734

10:56:35.96 Err : SRV: 10520: EventID=68| Failed to read request from client. Closing connection without reply.
This happens when setting up the ODBC Client on Windows: when clicking the "refresh" button on the client screen. Tracing shows the TCP message going to the server and a TCP RST being returned. If anything other than the TT_INTERNAL_DSN message is sent, the server returns a TCP FIN, so it seems comms is ok.
We cannot find anything common on the PC's that do or do not work. Running Windows XP.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
LouOn another forum, I found the hint, "Another possible cause is the presence of layered winsock providers. "netsh winsock show" at a cmd prompt will show you the installed providers and you can try removing any non-microsoft ones."
Tried this and on examining the netsh output from the affected PC's, found that they have Embassy Trust Suite by Wave Systems installed. Evidently Dell pre-installed this on some of their PC's.
Anyway, on uninstalling this software, the problem has been solved. -

File transport does not have read/write privileges for receive location???
Hi all.
I try to read an EDI-file from a file location.
In configured the receive location but when I enable it I get an error message in the log saying:
File transport does not have read/write privileges for receive location "Location" (Event ID: 7183)
The location is correct (I used the browse option) and the folder is shared with all users (full access for everybody).
How can I get rid of this errorThere can be many reasons for this error. First of all try the KB article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888498 . Then try the solution on this link http://bluebiztalk.blogspot.com/2008/05/file-transport-does-not-have-readwrite.htmlAbdul Rafay

I have a local VI that is simply a control that writes to the datasocket server whenever the control value changes.(the dataitem on the server is permanent - its initialized and never released by the server)
In the same local VI I have a datasocket read polling a different dataitem on the server.
The remote machine has a VI that reads the permanent dataitem on the server once per second.
For some reason, after adding the local VI mentioned above, the remote VI stopped picking up the first change in the permanent variable.
I'd start both the local and remote VIs...
Then change the local control and the remote V
I would not update - as if the datasocket write(upon adjusting the control) did not take place. So I'd change the control value again - this time the remote VI would update to this new value. And from here on out - the remote VI would update correctly. This problem only occurs when the local VI is first started up.
What in the heck is going on?dingler44 wrote:

Gorka is right, this came up on Info-LV a few days ago. Someone
described a similar problem. I replied that I had seen similar
behaviour, reported it to NI, and they verified a bug. There is no fix
yet, but they are aware of it and will fix it. No anticipated release
date for the fix.

Can I get a 'timetable' of what labview does when it runs the program?
Can I get a 'timetable' of what labview does when it runs the program? i.e. how long it spends doing each sub vi, and what order it does them in.
Cheers
Solved!
Go to Solution.Execution Trace Tool kit is an add-on. If you don't have it your pack of disks, ... maybe try a demo version?
NI Spy get loaded with LV (or one of those things).

Odbc client impact question 8.1.7 / Windows 2008 r2 64X
howdy all , i have several questions which might have been documented , but not marked as supported so maybe someone could answer just a few of my questions here goes :
- we have an oracle 8.1.7 (p2 ) database with support running on linux 2.4
- the clients connecting to the database is an older 8.1.6 (2) odbc client ( either running NT / 2000 / XP ) 32bit
- the application which uses this database and odbc connection is damgaard axapta 2.5
i have read several documents that 10.2 oracle odbc client is supported connected to an older database, but i have not seen any documented related to my case
( either everybody has moved on or no-one else has experienced a similar situation )
what im trying to accomplish , is connecting a sharepoint server (2010 ) with sql (2008 ) with powerpivot
powerpivot reads data from the oracle server through an odbc connection to an excel file ( works fine under a workstation rolled out as 32 bit )
so my main concern is , what if i install the 10.2 client on my server 2008 connecting to the 8.1.7 database , what could be expected ?user4724664 wrote:

I would think you could expect a world of headaches. Why, why, why do people insist on running software that hasn't been supported in the current millenium? Why, why, why do they upgrade everything except the database?
See MOS note 207303.1. It appears that your proposed combination is not supported. -
Windows ODBC Client for Timesten in Solaris Sparc
Hello, i need help to solve this issue :
I have a Timesten version 5.1.28 ( 32 bits) running in Solaris Sparc and a Windows 2003 server connected to the same network.
I need to install a Timesten ODBC client in my windows 2003 server in order to get connection to my timesten database in Solaris.
How can i get a timesten ODBC client for Windows ??
Thanks for your Help
Luis.Hi Luis,
TimesTen 5.1 is a desupported release. If you are a licensed TimesTen customer, you need to contact the TimesTen Support team to get your issue resolved as the 5.1 release is not available for download from OTN.
To contact the Oracle TimesTen Support team, please open a Metalink case for the TimesTen product, the product number is 1870. This will get routed to the Oracle TimesTen Support engineers.
If you already have the Windows 5.1.28 TimesTen bits, you can do the client only installation.
