Unattended install of oracle ODBC client

Hi,
I'm trying to install the Oracle ODBC client on a W2K server. This server is a Terminal server. This server is being installed completely unattended. For one of our new programs on the server we need an ODBC connection to our Oracle Server. We tried the connection and it worked fine.
Now we need of course to make the installation unattended, and there comes the problem. I've been testing with responsefiles and silent install, but that gives me an error/warning that the "temporary location can not be openend. Verify the 'source'". I don't know what the message means.
Does anyone have an idea how I can do this installation without the oracle installer, or is there an easier way.
Or does anyone have a solution to this problem I'm having with the responsefile.
Thanks,
YO

  • Installing an Oracle Database client on Application Server

    Hi all
I have posted before but thought I'd clean up my original question and repost - apologies but I'm desperate for help here.
I have a problem using Oracle Wallet with Application Server and Developer Suite 10g Rel 2 Software Update 10.1.2.3.0 on Windows 2003. The problem arises because the database which ships with this version of Application Server is 10.1.0.5. This database version is not compatible with Oracle Wallet external passwords eg sqlplus /@MY_WALLET_NAME.
So...to get around this I'm looking at putting the 10.2 database client on which will allow me to use sqlplus with the wallet.
    My questions is:
Does anyone have any advice for retaining existing Application Server functionality (we use Discoverer, Forms and Reports (RWCLIENT)) with a new Oracle 10.2 home on the server?
I will put on the client so would expect if I copy across the tnsnames & sqlnet ora, the connectivity is all backward compatible. SQL*Plus is obviously backward compatible. I'm not familiar with Application Server so am looking for guidance on any configurations I might need to change to make sure they pick up the right Oracle Home. For example, with the new Oracle Home at the start of the %PATH%, will RWCLIENT work as normal?
    Thanks,
    Tom

  • How to install Oracle ODBC driver...?

    TOM,
Presently, I have oracle client version. But there no Oracle ODBC driver in my PC. But, I want to install only Oracle ODBC driver in my PC for ODBC Connectivity purpose.
How to install & where can get the source?

I found out the real answer!!!
On another thread there was a link to the client 10g installation. I download that 480Meg monster. Unzipped the package and launced the setup.exe.
You can then install just the ODBC using the custom option. But, it will not install the tnsnames.ora file. If you have ever done this from a VB app, copy the tsnnames.ora over to the \network\admin folder. It's usually under the oracle\product\client\10.0.2\ folder. Once installed you can launch the ODBC administer either from the link Oracle installs or from the control panel.
Next, you need to make sure the folders where the .dll file is readable to the iis. Change the folder to add whatever permission group you use for iis (I happen to have setup a local users group {machinename\users}. Add them to the entire folder structure (check the embedded folders to ensure they are readable).
While setting up the ODBC, the TSN names will now be listed from the tsnnames.ora file (if properly located). To make the connection work, the userid should be 'userid;pwd=password'. Otherwise the connection failed for me.
Now, if your connection works okay from the odbc test connection, it will probably fail if accessing through iis (like from a .asp page). There are environment path variables that need to be set. Reboot the server for them to get set. Otherwise you will get a ODBC driver can not be loaded do to system error 1114 message.

  • Errors when installing Oracle ODBC driver

I've been trying to install the Oracle ODBC driver version 9.2 but each and every time I tried I am getting the following error messages that are preventing the Universal Installer to install it:
There was an error loading the following libraries:
    areasQueries
After I hit ok, another message pops:
There was an error loading the following libraries:
    WindowGeneralQueries
Does anyone have an idea on how to resolve this problem? I tried downloading from the otn web site various 9.2 releases, 9.2.0.2, 9.2.0.5 and 9.2.0.5.4 but all of them are giving me the same error message. I even uninstalled and reinstalled the JRE but still the same problem occurred.

When you install the Oracle client, a base version of the Oracle ODBC driver will be installed by default (you could customize the install not to install ODBC). Before we tackle the ODBC driver patchset instll, I'd like to make sure that the basic client software installed correctly.
    - Were there any errors thrown when you tried to install the 9.2 Oracle client?
    - Once you installed the Oracle client, were you able to connect to databases via SQL*Plus?
    - Is the Oracle ODBC driver on the list of ODBC drivers in the ODBC Data Source Administrator?
    - Can you connect to databases via the base version of the ODBC driver?

If you want to install that software you have to do it in a different Oracle Home. If you want to export a database or part of it with the export uitility of Oracle8i client you will be able to do it without installing Oracle8i Client on Oracle9i.

  • Anyone installed the Oracle client software on MBP?

    Hi there,
I'm running into problems installing the Oracle 10g client software (not the server) on my macbook Pro (Intel)
The instant client installs fine, but it doesn't have the tools I need (sqlldr, imp, exp). During the install the installer gives me a java UnsatifiedLinkError.
Any thoughts? Sorry if I've missed a previous thread on this, but searches turned up nothing.

So do u mean if we have SQLPLUS on the box, it implies that client tools are installed ?
and the SQLPLUS.exe is the one that indicates the existance of client tools on a box and this has to be present on the box to say that the clinet tools are installed.
Can we have client tools on the box with out SQLPLUS.?

You need the files sqlnet.ora and tnsnames.ora. I think the
sqlnet layer looks for them in /etc initially, or possibly
/var/opt/oracle, but setting the environment variable
    "TNS_ADMIN" will override this.
If you want to link the stuff dynamically, then run ldd against
a dynamically linked executable, copy across the libraries you
need to the client, ensure that LD_LIBRARY_PATH includes the
library directory, and that TNS_ADMIN points to a functional
pair of sqlnet.ora and tnsnames.ora files. (Ie, you need a
stanza in the tnsnames.ora file that points across to the
    instance on the server).
Or something like that. It's not very neat and Oracle support
would have a heart attack. Unless you are running several client
processes simultaneously static linking may be simpler.

    Hi DB
As far as I know, ADI and Discoverer do have any dependency that should prevent you from doing what you are doing.
What is the error you get when you try to install in the same ORACLE_HOME?
Can you give more information about the errors you get when you install in separate ORACLE_HOMEs?
I assume you would have checked the install logs and application logs to determine if there is anything obvious there ?
