Where is "javac" after JDK install?

I am having a problem just getting the first HelloWorldApp to compile the Java\jre1.6.0_06 JDK
I get the "'javac' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file" and followed SUN's troubleshooting directions so I'm sure and I am sure it is not a path issue.
Should there be a "javac" file in Java\jre1.6.0_06\bin where the JDK is installed?
I can't find one and I have reinstalled the jdk 2x and made sure I checked all options to install everything. This was from the latest Java SE JDK from SUN (jdk-6u6-windows-i586-p.exe)
Thanks

You're mistaken. It's a path issue.

No. The JRE is not the JDK. You've got the wrong path.

  • MSI files in Local Settings directory after JDK install

The JDK and JRE installers are leaving these giant .msi files (40+ MB for JDKs, 8-9MB for JREs) in c:\Documents and Settings\shankar\Local Settings\Application Data\{Long-Hex-Number-version}\
But they don't get removed when the JDK and JRE are removed. What's with them? Are they safe to delete? (The old ones - corresponding to JDKs I've removed (via Add/Remove Programs!) - should certainly be safe to delete - how about the ones for the currently installed JDK and JRE(s)?)

To answer myself in part, I just saw this bug: http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/bugParade/bugs/4760174.html. So clearly the old files can be deleted.
The question now is - how about the files corresponding to the versions currently installed - are they needed?

  • Javac not a recognizable command on my computer after i installed JDK SE6

I am trying to compile my java code so that i can execude it but my computer is telling me that this is not a recognizable command even after ive installed JDK SE6. any ideas?

You need to update your Java registry variable.
    Go to start> control panel> system> advanced> environment variables>
Now find the variable called "Path". Click "edit", and after everything else already there, put a semicolon if there isn't one, and the following:
    C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_03\bin
The _03 is for update 3, if you have a newer one, put 04 or whatever it is now.
DO NOT DELETE WHAT IS ALREADY IN THE EDIT BOX!
If you delete all of the other things, it will really mess your computer up. This is a vary sensitive process, so be careful.

The Acrobat DC installation has junked all my plug-ins, which is annoying but not insurmountable. I can always upgrade and re-install a plug-in.
But what has it done with my custom Actions that I created with the Action Wizard? I can't remember how I created most of them, and they've just vanished into thin air after CC installed DC. Don't tell me they're incompatible - they are Adobe Acrobat Actions!

  • How did my desktop appear on another computer after Leopard install?

I have a Mac G5 connected by ethernet to a cable company. I bought a MacBook for Chicago which is 2,000 miles away. After upgrading my G5 with Leopard I physically took the Leopard CD to Chicago and installed it on my MacBook in Chicago where I have wireless (router) After the install, my desktop was duplicated on this MacBook from the G5 in California. I never had these two computers connected, nor have I ever done a file sharing manipulation between these two computers.
One of the files on the desk top on my MacBook, when opened reveals all my files just like the one in CA except I can't open any of them because the program cannot be found. That is not suprising at all because I never installed any of these programs.
One program did open and can be used however and that is PhotoShop which I use lot on my G5. I never installed that program on my MacBook.
How did this stuff get on my MacBook? I believe there is a bug in the Leopard CD that performs all the functions I could do manually to get this desk top to duplicate.
    What do you say?

Do you have a .Mac account? If so you are probably seeing the new Leopard "Back to My Mac" feature in operation.

I assume that there are legal restrictions on the way in which iTunes can get artwork automatically from any source apart from the iTunes Store (which is what the right-click > Get Album Artwork function uses).  For example, even though the Gracenote service that iTunes uses to match CDs and retrieve metadata (artist, album, track titles, etc.) also has artwork functions, iTunes does not make use of these.
For manual addition of artwork, there are three cases where the image you select may not be correctly embedded in your media files:
your media are in a format that doesn't accommodate embedded artwork - typically WAV files.  To embed artwork you'll need to convert to another format - Apple Lossless or AIFF if you want to preserve lossless quality, AAC or MP3 otherwise.
your media files are read only - to fix this, use Windows Explorer to find the folder that contains your files, right-click and select Properties.  On the General tab there's a check box labeled "Read-only" - if this is checked, or is grey (sometimes blue), click the box so that the flag is unchecked and the box is white.  Click OK, and then OK again when the "Apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files" option selected.  Now try adding the artwork again.
Windows permissions issues are preventing iTunes from updating your media files (there's some anecdotal evidence of a change in this behavior in iTunes 12).  See turingtest2's notes on Repair security permissions for iTunes for Windows for advice on fixing this, then try adding the artwork again.

  • Tools menu is missing items I am expecting after I install extensions and other oddities

In the process of installing and customizing Firefox 3..6.4 on a new laptop, I noticed that when I expand the Tools menu, I do not see items for a number of the extensions I installed, which I see in Firefox on my old system.
For example, I installed the "PDF Download" extension and did not see a selection for "PDF Download - Options" in the Tools menu. I installed quite a number of extensions and in summary, the Tools Menu never changed one bit.
A different example. After I installed the Launchy extension. I went to customize my tool bar but the button for Launchy was not available to add to my toolbar.
Yet another example of strangeness was after I installed IE Tab. When I right-clicked on a link the "Open link in IE Tab" did not show up in the menu..
I tried doing a clean uninstall of Firefox following instructions from several websites and then reinstalling Firefox. Regardless of what I did, I was unable to see the expected items in the Tools menu after installing my selected extensions.
Things start to get weird. I performed a clean uninstall of Firefox 3.6.4 and downloaded and installed Firefox 3.5.10 and proceeded to install all of the extensions I had installed on my other system. Most of the items I was expecting to see in the Tool menu were there, BUT there were several lines that were blank which did not do anything when I selected them.
I was able to determine that they were related to the AdBlock Plus, downthemall! and fireftp extensions. Once I uninstalled them, the empty lines in the menu disappeared. I tried reinstalling them one by one to see if any of them would appear correctly in the menu, but adblock plus and downthemall did not. I left FireFTP installed and left adblock plus and downthemall! uninstalled.
I then upgraded from 3.5.10 to 3.6.4 to see if all of the Tools menu items would remain. They did remain.... I then tried to install adblock plus and downthemall! but there was no change to the Tools menu, considering that in Firefox 3.5.10 I was getting empty lines in the tools menu for where I should see "Adblock Plus Preferences" and "DownThemAll! Tools".
Not sure what is going on here, but something odd is definitely going on here. I have not tried to install any other extensions, but my gut instinct is that I will see more issues when I install new extensions.

I had a similar problem and could not get FireFTP to show in the Tools menu and did as someone else suggested (amongst other things), I 'Disabled' the ZoneAlarm Toolbar through 'Add-ons' on the Tools menu and presto FireFTP appeared on the Tools menu after restart. Good luck

My computer is running slow after Yosemite install -but in the Mail program, when I open an email and then open the attachment -all is good -when I close the attachment the Mail program goes away, and I have to reopen it in my Dock -every time.

I tried this, but no luck. I went to Previous System>Users. There is nothing inside the "Users" folder, so I hit a dead end.
I can find my new e-mails -- those that came in since I re-installed the system -- in my NEW system (which I did to see if I was correctly understanding the advice), by going to Users>Home>Library>Mail>POP account name>Inbox.
Let me add a new question: I am running PhotoShop C3. It opens OK, and I can use it, but when it opens I get this message: "One or more files for Adobe Application Support folder are missing. Please re-run the PhotoShop installer."
I don't like re-installing working programs if I can avoid it, because it always seems to lead to other issues. Any idea what files are missing, and where it/they might be in the Previous System folder?
    thanks

  • 4S hangs updating apps after iOS6 install

I updated my 4S to iOS 6.0 this morning.  Initially, it hung on restart and I was forced, after over 30 minutes with no change, to restore to factory, then restore from the backup I made prior to installing the new iOS.  It restored and installed iOS 6 with no issues.  Everything looked good until I attempted to install/update apps.  Four of them hung at "waiting" for an hour.  I updated them in iTunes and attempted to update them on the phone via a sync to no avail.  I restarted my MBP and tried again.  Still hung up.  I finally got movement, one app at a time, by restarting the iPhone - four times over.
This afternoon, there were more apps to update.  Silly me, I just asked the iPhone to do it.  Again, I am hung up at "waiting."  This time, nothing works.  I don't even have the option, via the iPhone or iTunes, to delete and reinstall them.  I've restarted everything, and am down to doing another restore if no one has any better suggestions.  I just don't want to be stuck restoring every time there's a major app update until this is addressed.
I have seen "Cannot sync iPhone. unknown error 1136" a couple of times upon attempting to sync while the app updates were hung up, but a restart of iTunes 10.7 got rid of that message.
Anyone else seeing this and managed to get past it?  Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.
    Barb

So, I ended up calling AppleCare.  We tried a few things, but ultimately ended up doing the restore to factory defaults option as even attempting to install apps directly ftom iTunes wasn't working.
Instead of restoring to backup, we started fresh and tried to install an app.  No problem.  So it looked like bad info from my iPhone was causing the problem.  I wasn't ready to give up and restored from my morning backup after I got off the phone.
While I sat and impatiently watched 90-some apps install during the restore-from-backup, I realized something.  During that process earlier today, I hadn't liked where the iOS was putting a couple things, and the fact that it had forgotten to put in an app or two.  I had rearranged the offending items and added the missing apps.  Then I hit "sync."  Ya, in the middle of a restore.  Since the latest restore-from-backup is working fine and installing apps without an issue, that had to be the culprit.
So, if you're having problems after doing a restore-from-backup after issues installing iOS 6, ask yourself if you did ANYTHING on your phone or if you re-synced during that restore.  If you did, you might seriously consider re-doing that restore.

  • Hi, after I installed IOS 7, my safari homepage is shown in Chinese. How to change it to English?

Hi, after I installed IOS 7, my safari homepage is shown in Chinese. How to change it to English?

    Hi everyone,
I just ran across this issue myself. Very odd to say the least. The language seems fine everywhere except the "favorites" which appear when you open Safari without a current website open. (kind of similar to where a home page would appear). These are not the same as all of your bookmarks, they are more of a "bookmarks bar" equilvalent that you would see when opening a new tab.
I tried it all to fix this, only to find that Apple is currently investigating the issue.
For those having this issue, you can call AppleCare, (even if you are out of warranty, since this is an iOS 7 issue, atleast for US and Canada customers) to get assistance. 1-800-APL-CARE for US and Canadian customers. It seems Apple's Engineering team is collecting data on this issue right now, though I am not aware of exactly what is being employeed to fix it.
If you don't want to call AppleCare or visit an Apple Store, I will say from personal experience that all of the basic troubleshooting steps failed to fix this issue.
It seems you may want to consider creating an iCloud or iTunes backup. I would also strongly recommend that you sync with iTunes, transfer your purchases in iTunes, and import your camera roll to a computer. And then restoring your device as new using iTunes. And after the restore try restoring from your iTunes or iCloud backup. This should take care of it.
However in extreme cases, it can take restoring and setting up as a new device (and syncing all the data you can back instead of using any kind of backup) to resolve stubborn issues, when they are based in your settings or content.
I hope this helps a little.

  • What to do with all the disks left on my computer after application install

I have been using the Mac for a year now (very happy overall), but am still a bit confused by what exactly the whole disk icon left over after an install is about. And then what about the .dmg and .pkg scene?
After I install a new application I have the icon of a disk with their name under it left on my desktop. It appears as a drive or partition would. Do I want to save these in case I need to re-install at some point? Can I burn them onto a CD or DVD?
I can drag .dmg files to a folder to store them, but not the disk icon's.
And why do some app's give you .dmg or .pkg files to open and others automatically put the little disk icon?
Thanks for any help in clearing this up for me.

The "disk icons" that appear when you double click a .dmg file can simply be "ejected" or "unmounted" by dragging them to the trash which will transform into an eject icon just like the one you see when you eject any other mounted volume (a CD, DVD, USB drive, etc.). The .dmg file itself should be saved for future use (if you need to re-install or access the files contained therein). Also, if the .dmg file contains anything you paid for, you will also have some sort of "key code" that should be saved along with the .dmg file. Where and how you save these are up to you. Once you have extracted the files from the .dmg and copied them to some location on your HD (the Applications folder for example) moving the .dmg file will have no effect.

  • MacBook won't eject disk during multi-disk installs, or after an install

Oy, will the problems never stop?
I have a dual-core MB 2.66 machine. I just put a fresh 500 gig drive and installed a retail copy of Snow Leopard. That seemed to go fine. Now I'm installing apps. And what's cropped up is that the machine refuses to eject disks after the install is complete.
I had to run the Adobe CS5 install twice because of this problem; luckily it ejected disks as it was supposed to the second time around. However, with iLife, iWork, Quicken, etc., after the install was done the disk refused to eject, and I had to hard-quit and eject the disk during next startup. And now Final Cut Pro is acting the same way...I use the install disk, then put Audio Content 1 disk in...it churns for two hours adding those files, then asks for Audio Content disk 2...but WON'T eject Disk 1!
I'm at my wits end. I never had these problems with Tiger...

If I understand you correctly, you have two disks with Tiger and you installed a new disk on which you install Snow Leopard & apps.
Personally I would not have done this project that way. I would have used CCC or SuperDuper to clone one of the Tiger disks on to the new disk and then test to be sure the disk is working correctly first. A clone is a bootable copy of a system disk that contains everything from where the device used to make it.
Then and then I would install Snow Leopard. After installing Snow Leopard, you could use Setup Manager to copy over your data from the Tiger disk.
With the problemas you are currently having it might be easier to start over this way.

  • IPhoto & iTunes libraries on USB flash drive. What happens after erase/install?

Not exactly sure how much background someone like Kappy needs for this question but I'll try to not make it a novel.
My late 2010 MBA (64GB) was way low on storage so I decided to get a 64GB USB drive for it and put my iTunes and iPhoto libraries on it. Moving both libraries went exactly according to the instructions. But then after a while iPhoto started to get very slow. The spinning beach ball was running amok. This prompted me to use DU on the new flash drive which didn't show any problems. After doing that I decided to run DU on my mac HD and found a problem that coudn't be repaired without erasing and re-installing Mavericks 10.9.2..
Now, here is my current situation:  I have erased and as I write this am downloading a clean copy of Mavericks from recovery. I had backed up everything to my TC just yesterday.
    Here is my question:
After re-installing what do I do about telling iTunes and iPhoto where to find the libraries? Or, should I just use the copy of everything that I had backed up yesterday?
Sorry in advance if this is a stupid question. I checked to see if there was some support file for my issue but couldn't find anything that really fit.
As always, thanks for everyone's input. I always learn something from you guys.
    Regards, Richard
P.S.: I realize that the problem with iPhoto might not have been the issue with my mac HD and doing what I've done may not fix it. But I wanted to fix the problem with the HD before I went any further trying to fix iPhoto. I hadn't had issues with iTunes functioning with the flash drive, only iPhoto.

Yes, there's no real solution.  Apple makes thin, small computers and devices, but of course that means no big drive to store all the bulky media Apple itself promotes on the iTunes Store.  You then have to buy external storage which is almost as big as the device you are using, negating the whole concept of a mobile device.  I guess you can try wireless, though I can tell you I see about 30+ wireless devices in my neighborhood and with them trying to share only 3 non-overlapping channels I frequently see network slowdown through interference.  Of course you bought that nice light computer so you could take it away form home too, but then you are locked into using what's available on the Internet. I guess part of Apple's answer is cloud storage and redownloading.  However, Apple itself says you need to maintain your own independent archive: "You always back up your iTunes library in the event that a purchased item is no longer available on the iTunes Store," (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519), and, Downloading (using iOS or computer) past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519 - enabled with iTunes 10.3 and newer; not all media formats are available in all countries (see: iTunes in the Cloud, iTunes Match, and iTunes Radio availability by country - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5085 ); apps, books (not audiobooks), music, t.v. shows, and movies (some - not all studios have permitted this).   Discontinued items not available. For items not included in the iCloud list (e.g., ringtones, audiobooks), or locations or computer systems where iCloud is not (yet?) available, you only get one download per fee paid.
Cloud storage is a convenience but not a replacement for a hard drive at home (and of course, works best when you buy everything from the iTunes Store).

After re installing OS x I got following information as I want install IPhoto. These apps cannot be accepted on this computer.

The answer was authorization codes.  It took three phone calls, several emails to Apple Tech support (after I purchased the $160 applecare plan) to get them.  Note, I had to call back after four days, the first Senior Advisor simply disappeared and refused to respond to emails or phone calls.  The next Senior advisor spent the weekend looking for the first advisor, then scheduled a phone call to tell me he would begin looking at the issue.  When I asked he specficially discounted the authorization codes:
"I don't know if issuing a redeem code for iPhoto is an appropriate resolution for your issue.  Since, I don't have the ability to issue any redeem codes for the Mac App Store, I am still waiting to hear back from Sean, the previous agent you were working with, regarding any status he has about your issue."
Three days after that...here are your codes.  Note a restart is necessary to properly get the iLife apps to update, now through the App Store.
Also, this is the second issue where I have lost contact with a Senior Advisor and had to restart the process. Standard procedure?
