  • Does the SONY VAIO F Series SVF15412CXB support dual channel memory?

Does the SONY VAIO F Series SVF15412CXB support dual channel memory?  Or does it only have one slot?
I'm curious if I can put a second stick of RAM in there for dual channel performance.

Hi Mark, Thanks for the response.  Can you please double check that for me, or post a link to the documentation where you saw that?  I asked this question on Newegg, too, and one of the respondants heard differently:
"i found out from sony that there is only 1 slot cause i was gonna get 1 more 4GB stick of ram for 8Gb. So iwas upset about that cause i have to get 8GB now and it costs 100$ for an 8Gb stick of ram on ebay. So this ram is expensive. So im sticking with 4Gb for now. This is a very good laptop though. I use it primarily for minecarft and steam and i get around 100 fps on minecraft so its good. I hope this helps." It's just confusing because other laptop advertisments I've seen openly stated how many RAM slots the computer had and how many were used upon purchase.  I haven't found anything like that which makes me think that there's only one slot for RAM. Thanks,Gremark

  • Where is the Sony XZ1S C6916 support page?!?! Has Sony stopped support for this device?

    Hello community,
Im new to sony community so please take it easy on me. I was able to access support information from sonys own xperia z1s support page. But as of last night, that page is no longer existent and any searches for C6916 redirect me to the Z1 support page with no information on Z1S. Has sony stopped supporting this device?

I wouldn't like to say as the Z1s is a T-mobile specific locked phone and may have security features in place to only allow network signals via their firmware

  • Sony Vaio is lately getting disconnected off the 5GHz spectrum

Nothing changed has changed with the setup. I'm using an Airport Extreme Dual-Band to connect a few devices including a Power Mac G5 and HP MediaSmart server both via wired ethernet, two iPhones via the 2.4GHz wireless band, and a Sony Vaio laptop via the 5GHz band.
Only today the Sony Vaio has been losing LAN connection. All other devices connected to the Airport Extreme is not exhibiting any problems. It's only the 5GHz portion that has a problem in connecting to the network in general.
I restart the Vaio laptop and the connection is great again. Then after a few minutes no LAN. The server is lost. Internet connection is lost. Only cure is to switch down to 2.4GHz for a steady connection.
How can I diagnose if it's the Vaio laptop or the Airport that's defective in the 5GHz range?

Check if the DC jack is loose or damaged within the computer.
Remove media from the CD/DVD drive.
Disconnect all external devices that are connected to the computer.
Connect the AC adapter into a known working AC outlet and to the DC jack on the notebook, and then attempt to turn on the computer normally.
    NOTES:
Verify the correct Sony AC adapter is being used, and not a third-party replacement AC adapter.
Connect the AC adapter directly to a wall outlet and not to a surge protector or extension cord.
Some AC adapters have a POWER LED indicator and can be confirmed as receiving power by ensuring the LED is lit. If the AC adapter is damaged, or the LED is not lit or continuously flickers when plugged into a working AC outlet, the adapter must be replaced.
Disconnect the AC power adapter, remove the battery, and then press and hold the Power Switch for 5 seconds. Once that has been done, connect the AC power adapter again, and then attempt to turn on the computer normally without the battery installed.
NOTE: If the computer turns on without the battery, the battery is either completely drained or defective. Put the battery back in, reconnect the AC adapter and charge the battery for 24 hours. If the issue still occurs, that battery is the problem and will need to be replaced.
Remove any additional Random Access Memory (RAM) that may have been added to the computer.
NOTE: If removing the added RAM memory resolves the issue, check the computer specifications to ensure the memory modules meet the minimum requirements. If they do, the modules themselves may be defective.
Attempt to turn the computer on.

  • Win 7 (Sony Vaio) Battery Doesn't Charge

I have a Sony Vaio VPCEB11FM notebook with Win 7 64 and suddenly the battery doesn't charge. During shutdown, Win 7 was installing updates and before it was done it went off.
After that Win 7 doesn't recognize the ac adapter plugged in and the battery doesn't charge.
The updates downloaded are not running or installing.
I have tested the ac adapter and battery on a laptop exactly like my one. And it worked just fine.
There are no updates available for battery from manufacturer.
The charging light is off when i plug the ac adapter.
The laptop works without battery, but plugged in ac adapter.
    Plz, helpppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppp...

    Hi
I've had a number battery problems to do with rapid
discharging and not charging properly - the batery was nearly new and previously had 3 hours life before an update ... Sony Support
have been worse than useless ... In case it helps (given that your problems started after your Windows 7 update) - my
problem was not the physical battery (or BIOS or drivers or a number of other things I checked) but the Sony VAIO battery management software which stopped working after I installed the 64-bit Windows 7 update Service Pack 1 (SP1).
There may be no harm in just trying to re-install the Sony VAIO Battery Checker software - it worked for me ... To do this, run
the VAIO Care Recovery and Restore programme (from the start menu), use the Recovery option  - Reinstall Applications and Drivers – and re-install the Battery Checker
    (tick the check box option).
    Hope this helps :)
Here's the full detail of what happened to me in case others have similar problems:
Warning to all 64-bit Windows 7 users:  Do NOT install Windows 7 SP1 !!!!!   If you do and
the Sony VAIO battery management software ruins your battery, Sony Support won't replace it but blame Microsoft instead.
After I installed the Windows 7 update for SP1 my battery performance died - the battery would
discharge from 100% to zero in only 52 minutes
(it was nearly 3 hours before installing SP1).  In a specific timed test for Sony Support the battery took 47 minutes to discharge to 50% and then rapidly discharged from 50% to zero in the following 4 minutes.  In
all tests I performed the machine did not ‘turn off’ but crashed as if the battery had been ripped out, prompting a safe-start by windows each time.  From zero charge, the battery was re-charging to 100% charge in about 20 minutes.
Sony Support were useless, so I started to read many technical discussion forums online and found that hundreds of Sony users
have the same problem with battery performance with no solution.  Many discussions online have led back to a wrong idea: that the Microsoft Windows system drivers –
    battc.sys and
compbatt.sys – used for Microsoft Composite Battery management are too old to be 64-bit versions.  This idea is because the Microsoft driver information
displayed in the Device Manager window shows a driver date of 21/06/2006, before Windows 7 64-bit was deployed.  However the actual hidden driver files in the Windows System folder (version 6.1.7) are dated 14/07/2009 and are indeed 64-bit versions.
I found this after I spent hours looking for new versions of the drivers and when I couldn’t find any mention, let alone new versions, I then checked the actual file properties myself and discovered the Microsoft drivers are fine (even though there is
a Microsoft Windows 7 error displaying the date using Device Manager).  Similarly, a number of people have updated their BIOS with no change to the problem (so I'm leaving that alone).
I then investigated other ideas – and eventually checked that the version of VAIO Power Management and Battery Checker
VAIO (part of the Sony Notebook Utilities exe) for my machine (VPCEB3C5E).  The latest versions I could see online (Sony sites) all appear to be the same versions as those already installed on my machine.
However, I tried one final, simple action and it fixed my machine:
I used the VAIO Care Recovery and Restore programme
    (from the
    start menu),
selected the Recovery option – Reinstall Applications
and Drivers – and re-installed the Battery Checker (check box option).
This fixed the problems with the battery management
where the machine suddenly crashes without adequate warning when the battery is discharging. The
battery now shows a steady discharge from 100% down to zero (remember, before it discharged quickly down to 50% and then from 50% to zero in the last 4 minutes). It also charges back up at a steady (safe) rate rather than rapidly.
Unfortunately, my battery is now damaged but Sony Support do not want to know.  In
the several weeks while the Sony software was not working properly the battery had been rapidly re-charged, over-charged and is now damaged.
The previous battery life of over 2.5 hours in normal use (let alone test conditions
doing nothing) has been reduced to less than an hour since the 64-bit Windows 7 SP1 installation.
     Things
cannot still be fully correct with the Sony battery management software because the
    battery health status in the
VAIO Control Centre is still displaying
    GOOD.
So Sony Support will not replace the battery, even though previously they contradicted themselves by saying I had to run industry standard tests - now when the tests show the battery is faulty Sony then go back to relying on
software that was the cause of the problem.  Unbelievable !!!
Moreover, the Sony European Support guy escalated my case (5568077) and the response he got was this is a Windows 7 issue and
not a Sony problem ... Therefore, should I ask Microsoft for a new Sony battery even though it was the Sony software at fault?  Even more unbelievable by Sony !!!!!!
So, all Sony VAIO Users - don't install Windows 7 SP1 and expect Sony Support to help.
Most of all - when the Sony VAIO battery management software ruins your battery, don't expect Sony to replace
    it.
And now for a bit of a rant to make me feel better ... This was the first time I've bought a Sony - I've had dozens
of Dells over the years but thought I'd try a VAIO for a change ... Given my recent experience guess what my next machine will be?  Sony may be making a small financial loss since the Tsunami and online PSP gaming / hacker problems, but with service like
this their VAIO losses will also be significant in the future - Sony just don't get that customers pay for and expect service when we buy a machine ... Idiots!
    Cheers RB, England

  • [SOLVED] ACPI power issues with Sony Vaio Pro 13

    tl;dr backstory:
Sony VAIO Pro 13 (SVP13215CDB) laptop was working great (Win 8.1).
Installed Win10 Tech Preview. A week later, it started going to sleep randomly and on certain key-presses (perhaps after performing Sony Vaio Software updates. I'm not 100% sure). I wiped all partitions installing Win7 in legacy mode. It still went to sleep randomly.
I restored to factory default Win8.1 with Sony Vaio software up-to-date. It still went to sleep randomly.
Took it to an electronics repair shop, to see if they could fix it, and they said it can't be fixed in any way without replacing motherboard, but that's basically a new laptop.
So I turned to Arch Linux.
I have completed the basic install from the Wiki, and it no longer sleeps/shuts down randomly, but it will gracefully shutdown when certain events/keypresses occur.
I installed acpid and used "acpi_listen >> acpi.log" to determine what causes the system to perform a graceful shutdown. Here is the result of acpi.log (each line was a shutdown event):
    button/power PBTN 00000080 00000000 # Unplugged power adapter.
button/power PBTN 00000080 00000000 # Running on battery and idle. Perhaps battery percent update caused this?
    button/power PBTN 00000080 00000000 # Plugged in power adapter.
    button/power PBTN 00000080 00000000 # Fn-F1 Touchpad Disable
    button/power PBTN 00000080 00000000 # Fn-F5 Brightness Down
    button/power PBTN 00000080 00000000 # Fn-F6 Brightness Up
    button/power PBTN 00000080 00000000 # Fn-F7 LCD/External Display
    button/power PBTN 00000080 00000000 # Fn-1 (Weird. It has no extra function).
As you can see, they all seem to trigger the same shutdown event.
I have seen on other posts that these ACPI signals can be disabled or assigned to other commands, which would be an acceptable workaround if it stops my laptop from erroneously shutting down. Is this doable?
Also, I was not able to reflash the Sony VAIO firmware when using Windows, as Sony's package software is amazing wouldn't allow flashing an equal or lesser firmware version. Perhaps there is a way in Arch to force a reflash if I can get my hands on the firmware blob?
    Thanks .

    linux /boot/vmlinuz-linux root=UUID=<UUID here> rw quiet acpi=off
    Like this?
I did that, and it disabled my laptop keyboard entirely. In doing so, it disables the key-presses that would normally shutdown the laptop, including the power button. So the only way to shut it down is a hard shutdown via long-press of the power button. Thanks, though.
Update: Issue Solved. I will update post tonight. Flashing the BIOS again resolved the ACPI issues.

  • Sony vaio flip 15 missing strokes in photoshop

    HI there,
I recently bought the Sony vaio flip 15 which uses the n-trig stylus as opposed to Wacom, I downloaded the appropriate drivers from n-trig to apply pressure sensitivity in photoshop and while the stylus is pressure sensitive it keeps missing strokes, I will draw on the screen and nothing will happen, if I draw ten quick strokes only three to seven will appear on screen, I haveI uninstalled and re installed the drivers to no effect and the stylus works perfectly in other pressure sensitive programs such as sketchbook pro 6 and manga studio 5 but in photoshopit is unusable, is there something I am doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you,
    MIchael

HI there, yep windows eight sorry, I have tried the new cc and it has the same issue. If I remove the drivers for the n-trig stylus the problem gets better in a way the stylus is responsive but no pressuresensitivity of course. These wintab drivers were specifically designed to work for photoshop so it shouldn't be this bad

  • Sony Vaio Graphics Questions

Im thinking about purchasing the Sony - VAIO All-In-One Computer / Intel® Core™ i3 Processor / 21.5" Display / 4GB Memory / 500GB Har... and was wondering what type of games  the graphics will support (can it play games like call of duty 4 or 5?) and if the graphics are upgradable?

The Intel HD combined with the Intel proccesser has given surprising results. However, even *with* that, it will not handle Call of Duty very well. It is suggested that if you consider yourself any form of gamer (more intense then Facebook or World of Warcraft) that you get a Desktop machine. Not a laptop, not an all-in-one.
Desktops are the most upgradable, so you can mix and match now, and down the road, to fit your gaming needs.

  • M4 SSD 256GB 2.5 inch sometimes not booting on Sony Vaio VGN-FZ11E

I installed a Crucial m4 SSD 256GB 2.5 inch on the Sony Vaio laptop VGN FZ11E using the kit provided. The operating system used is Windows Vista. The drive worked great the first time I booted the laptop, but since the second booting the system sometime stops while booting and I have to force the computer to restart till at some points it works (which can be after 1, 2, 3, 4 or even more attempts). The computer starts and the drive works for the first 10 seconds or so, then when the WLAN light of the laptop comes up, it stops working (no hard disk light). I have installed the last firmware, checked the drivers and made sure that the m4 drive is recognised and prioritized in the BIOS (this is the only drive installed, and it has a partition which is hidden). I have done a Power Cycle as recomended on the Crucial website, but this did not solve the problem. Any suggestions?

Hi, I have the same issue you are describing, with "Operating system not found", not the one laurentzo says. My VAIO VGN-FE11H with BIOS R0174J3 gets stuck at this point, and that happens many times with this version of BIOS. With version R0074J3 also happened, but I have the perception that it was less usual. Anyway, I tried to upgrade my BIOS because the failure is unacceptable, and 8 of 10 times I can´t boot my laptop because the disk is not recognised, despite the fact that when it boots, everything works perferctly. My BX100 250GB firmware is MU02, and my situation is quite desperating, because the workaround that you suggest isn't working.Would you please update this firmware, or would you know any BIOS parameter that could make it boot at least half of the times??P.S.: I have also tried enabling AHCI on BIOS, etc.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 Wireless - Where are the printing shortcuts?????

HP Officejet Pro 8600 Wireless Printer
    Windows 7
    Where are the printing shortcuts?????
I just replaced a canon printer that died that had the concept of PROFILES, so that I could setup a PROFILE for each type of printing, i.e. 4X6 photos/documents/5X7 photos.  So it was easy for our family to print, they would pick each setting.
Now with latest driver for 8600 there are NO way to save a set of settings for a printer.   I have seen some old discussions on this but I just can't believe HP doesn't have this type of functionality in their drivers.  I don't need the ePrint and all the other bogus stuff installed with the 8600 driver, but I DO NEED the ability to save different sets of printing options so I don't have to remember, borderless or not, landscape or not, etc and keep wasting photo paper/ink/regular paper with incorrect options.
Here is another posting with similar points -> Customers are NOT getting full print functionality.  We don't care about the extra software, it is minimal.  Full functionality includes the ability to create profiles for different printing situations so that the user can easily choose that profile (and therefore all the myriad settings for that profile).  What HP has done is give us ONE profile, essentially, and every time you want to do something different, you have to change that ONE profile.  How is that helping?
As I said, if I want to switch from a normal printing job (e-mail, web page, etc.) which uses my ONE setting, and then want to print a 4x6 photo, I have to remember to change at least 6 different settings.  With the shortcut, I would select my "borderless photo" shortcut, and it would automatically switch paper trays, size, color, quality, you name it.  Now you force me to change that each and every time.
If someone can explain why this is considered full functionality I would be extremely grateful.

    Hello,
I am sorry you are having trouble with your print experience.
I am going to make some assumptions here, which could be wrong in your case, but might help others.  Since you mention printing from Windows7 and ePrint in the same thread, can I assume you are trying to print using the HP ePrint driver for windows (www.hp.com/go/eprintsoftware) ?  The ePrint driver also comes preinstalled on all HP laptops and pcs now, so maybe you made a recent pc purchase and therefore have the ePrint driver installed?
The goal of the ePrint windows driver currently has a lot less to do with providing the hundreds of print features and settings that the full featured, product specific print drivers provide.  The goal is to enable customers to be able to print to any recent or new HP printer through a number of different connection paths from a single installed print driver / print queue.  Once the ePrint driver is installed, printing with that driver will dynamically find direct network printers, cloud enabled printers, public print locations, direct wireless printers, etc., and create the correct print format depending on the print path taken.  If the printer is ePrint cloud enabled and has a good internet connection, the printer and the pc do not have to be in the same location.  For example, you can print from home to your printer at work.  You can send photos of the kids to your mom's printer in another state, etc.  The ePrint solution is also good for the traveling worker who just wants to send the occasional print job to the nearest network or wireless direct printer without having to find and install another print driver for each new printer.  One driver, one queue and you can print to any recent or new HP printer.
The ePrint driver has a few important print settings that customers may want to use (copies, duplex, grayscale, etc).  More may be added over time depending on demand.
BTW, because the ePrint driver does not have a ton of print settings to handle, the rendering of print jobs is as simple and efficient as possible and should not bog down your pc.
If you want all the bells and whistles in the print driver experience and just want to print to a single printer you can download and install the product specific print driver from hp.com
I hope that helps out a few people who may be wondering what the purpose of ePrint is!!
    Good luck.

Do you know where the actual photo files are located on your laptop? If so, you can transfer them to the Mac over a LAN or by saving them to an external HDD, thumb drive or burning them to a disk. Then you can import the photos to the iPhoto app that came on your new Mac.
It would be the same process for the videos, however, it would depend what type of video files they are, as to which Mac app might allow you to view them.
BTW, since your Mac is new you need to Accept the iLife apps; iPhoto, GarageBand and iMovie into your Mac App Store/iTunes account. Open the MAS, sign into you account, go to the Purchased pane and accept the apps.
