Where should parameter values be displayed on Financial reports?

I write our Report Guidelines and have always said that the parameters must be displayed in the Page Header.  Or if space is an issue than Report Header is acceptable.  Now I have several people in our office telling me that parameters should be in the Report Footer.
This seems crazy to me.
I need your thoughts.
Thanks

hi,
Parameters are generally placed in Report Header.
If user is interested to see parameters on each page of report, then Page Header is apt.
Also, parameters can be placed one-by-one vertically, if there are few. If there are many, they can be positioned side-by-side horizontally and then extending vertically.
Also, ensure that report data/chart should be displayed on first page of report.
My assumption why some of your colleagues suggested to place them in Report Footer is ,
if parameters are multi-valued and there are more parameters, then user can select many values.
So first page of the Report will be filled completely with parameters and values. User will not feel good as report data/chart is displayed on 2nd page of the report. If they are placed in Report Footer, User will be able to see the data in first page of the report and parameters stuff will be displayed in last pages.
In case of lot of parameters(multi-valued) for a report, display very important parameters on Report Footer and place remaining on Report Footer.
Also it depends upon the end user-to-user satisfaction where to display the parameters.

Vamsee

    Hi Neha,
    Yes, there is a way to setup of your grid POV. Take a look at this: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12825_01/epm.111/fr_user/127.html

  • Parameter values getting lost when generating report to .pdf

    Report Builder 6.0.8.26.0
    I have a report which accepts 3 parameter, :v_id, :a, :b, :v_id is numeric, other char.
    I display them on the report and use them in the query. When I run the report, everything is ok in the previewer and when I print a hard copy.
    When I select generate -> pdf, the :a & :b parameters do not display on the report and the queries run the same as if I set :a & :b to a null value.
    Anybody seen this and have anykind of fix. I know I can generate the script for the query and then use and external query & might have to, but I was trying to find something else.

    Hi Chris
    I suggest you apply Reports and Forms Integrated patch on your setup. You can download the patch from metalink site.

  • Zero / space display in Financial Reports

    Hi all,
    We have a number of Financial reports using 0costelmnt in the rows and various 0amount restricted key figures in the columns.  These reports are set to display zeros, however we have an issue where zeros are not being displayed consistently.
    For example, for the same cost element a row may display a zero in the 'Actual 0amount' column but then a blank in the Budget '0amount' column rather than a zero.  These reports also include YTD, LY etc KFs so there ends up being a confusing variety of zeros and blanks displayed even in the same row.
    Now, I understand that I can define a forumla KF that will force a zero to be displayed, but my question is why do I need to do this ?  Why, given that 0amount is a number, am I getting a mix of zeros and blanks displayed ?
    Many thanks,
    Blair

    Hi Blair,
    i understood this:  the transaction data its not been created yet and that is the reason why you not see a zero on that row, in this case for planning.
    When you generate combinations with an standard function this generate the register fisically on that infocube.
    Hope this helps !

  • How can we allow over 103,718 list of values to display in webi report selection?

    I know, why would we want to?
    Our business users would like to see the list ordered and first select from a range and drill down.
    Any query in information design tool already does this as well as the preview values for the LOV object.
    Is there a way to make large LOV function this way in webi query/report?
    If not, is there a way to move beyond the warning of 'Partial list'?

    These are all dependent parameters for LOV
    At BO Server level
    Web Intelligence Processing Server-> Maximum List Of Values Size (entries) - 50000 (default)
    Web Intelligence Processing Server-> List of Values Batch Size (entries) -1000 (default)
    At Universe level
    Array Fetch parameter at database.PRM file.
    Limit size of result set to --  parameter
    Query Level
    Max rows retrieved ( Click Query Properties to display the "Query Properties" dialog box.)
    You can try below steps
    Follow these steps to change the maximum size for a list of values:
    Log in to Central Management Console.
    Click Servers.
    Right click Web Intelligence Processing Server and select Properties.
    Increase the value of Maximum List Of Values Size (entries).
    Save and restart the Web Intelligence Processing Server.  Note: Setting large number for Maximum List Of Values Size (entries) may affect the performance of Web Intelligence. It is recommended to set the appropriate number according to the system performance.

  • Parameter form not displaying in 9i reports. Works fine in 6i!!

    Parameter form does not show up with any options mentioned in the cgicmd.dat.
    It works in 6i & surprisingly in 9i reports it doesn't.
    In 6i reports destype=cache shows the report output on screen but in 9i it doesn't, the report just sits in the cache dir of reports on the middle tier.
    Was Oracle in a hurry to release such incomplete versions???as it shows 9 is exactly opposite to 6 in apperance so are the versions!!! & too much java is harmful to the system performance.
    If there's a patch please...

    my url looks like this
    http://abc:8888/reports/rwservlet?report=myreport.jsp&userid=a/b@c&server=myserver&paramform=yes
    or paramform=html with all other arguments same
    i have chosen system parameters destype,desname,desformat along with one user parameter
    i tried putting the same arguments as it has to put in the cgicmd.dat key map & also typed the above url from the client.
    If i give initial values to the parameters then for example i say destype as mail & give other parameters appropriate values , i get a status html form which says report ran successfully.The user gets the mail
    If i do not give initial values to every parameter except destype i still get the status message as report ran successfully, but the mail would have not gone.
    Is it that the reports will run only when deployed on 9iAS or it runs otherwise too on a system which has 9iDS.
    I had posted the same question earlier but i didn't quite understand about report escapes...the person who replied meant to say

  • Where to find tutorials for generating standard financial reports in SAP

    Hi,
    I am an accounting major student who do not have any background in IT programming and SAP as well. I am taking a class about SAP and I have to do a project with the topic "Managerial reporting in SAP". Basically, I will have to do a step-by-step tutorials for the whole class about how to generate standard reports and customized reports from SAP, mainly financial statement reports and the analysis of those statements.
    I  have been searching a lot from sdn.sap.com but not found anything. Please help me to find the tutorials.
    Thanks a lot

  • Report based on parameter values

    Morning all,
    I have to create a report which includes Account Number, Account Name, Sales prices. There has to be two optional parameters, Account number (Static) and Product Description (Dynamic).
    I have setup the report with Account Number (Grouped), Account Name. The report works fine, when a user selects a particular account number, the report produces fine.
    Things I would like to do and know about:
    1: when it comes to sales price, it should reflect to what user has selected under Product Description parameter.
    for example if the user has selected Supra, Supra KNT, Rimless, Metal etc from the description parameter, the report should only show those selected prices according to the account number (showing descriptive field value).
    2: Additionally, if user chooses all of the options from the drop down menu (multiple selection dexcription parameter) then the report should show all the prices according to the description (showing the description field value).
    The problem in this case which I think would be is because the description values are quite alot, I mean more than 25 values and if a user selects multiple values, lets say all, how would Crystal adjust that into a report?
    Example of a report
    Parameters
    =============
    Account Number:
    Description: Supra, Supra KNT, Metal, Plastic, Rimless, Rimless KNT (multiple selection)
    Report Layout
    ============
    Account Number --- Account Name --- Supra - Supra KNT - Metal - Plastic - Rimless - Rimless KNT
    (Where Supra to Rimless KNT options are chosen by Descriptive parameter value - if not chosen then report will only show account number and account name).
    If however only Supra is selected then the report would look like this
    Report Layout
    ============
    Account Number --- Account Name --- Supra
    Any ideas how to achieve this kind of report? I have setup the report in a landscape so that we can fit as many description values as possible but I only managed to show 9, rest goes over the page.
    The report in the end has to be exported to excel so I don't mind if it goes over a page.
    Regards
    Jehanzeb

    Jehanzeb,
    You do want to use cross tabs...
    Have your database query produce a table with the following columns:
    Account Info (Number & Name)
    Product Description
    Sales
    e.g.,
    Select AcctNo + " - " + AcctName as AcctInfo,
       ProdDesc,
       sum(Sales) as Sales
    from SalesTable
    group by AcctNo, AcctName, ProdDesc
    Then use record selection to limit the data to the selected products.
    Yes, the layout of a cross tab is a bit strange, in that the design of the cross tab only shows one column for the data, but the table will expand with the underlying data.  If 4 products are selected, there will be 4 columns of sales numbers.  When setting up the cross tab, make the AcctInfo field the row header, and the ProdDesc field the column header, and the Sales field the table cell value.
    HTH,
    Carl

  • Ssrs 2008 r2 parameter values

    In a new ssrs 2008 r2 report, I need to display 2 of the parameter values in the heading of the report. One of the parameter values in the name and customer number. The second heading value is the city and state where the particular customer is located at.
    The customer table has the following values:
    a. cust_id int primary-id,
    b. customer_name varchar(50),
    c. cust_address1 varchar (50),
    d. cust_address2 varchar (50),
    e. cust_city_state varchar(40),
    f. cust_zip_providence varchar(30),
    g. cust_country varchar(30).
    Thus I need to place the  paramter values of customer_name and cust_city_state that are obtained from a dropdown list in the heading.
    when I try =first(customer_name) in the heading, the value is only good for the first customer name. After that, the wrong parameter value is displayed.
    Thus can you tell me and/or show me code of what I can do to place the parameter values
    of customer_name and cust_city_state in the heading of the report?

    Follow below steps,
    1. Create 3 Data set.
     DS1 = select * from customertable
     DS2 = select distinct customer_name from customertable
     DS3 = select distinct cust_id from customertable
    2. Add two parameter, customer name and customer number
     --------parameter 1
     - supply Name property for 1st parameter
     - datatype for the parameter is string
     - Available value property, Select dataset DS2, Select Field Value as "Customer_Name"
     --------parameter 2
     - supply Name property for 2st parameter
     - datatype for the parameter is string
     - Available value property, Select dataset DS3, Select Field Value as "Cust_id"
    3. Add a blank tablix/table.
     -- Select TableRow2 and right click to add new group i.e insert group.
     -- Group properties window will be openned,
     -- Select Group On Expression 1st.
     -- Select the parameter(Parameter1/customer name) by double clicking in the expression window
     -- Select Group On another Expression 2nd.
     -- Select the parameter(Parameter2/Cust Id) by double clicking in the expression window
     -- Now in the general tab you need to checked "Repeat Group Header"
     -- press ok to close the group properties window.
    4. Now from DS1 drag the field City and State in TableRow3 columns.
    5. Drag the Customer Name and Customer Id/Number in TableRow1.
    6. In case if First(Fields!CustomerName) appears then remove First function as simply "Fields!CustomerName". Similarly for Customer Number.
    7. Finally we need to set the filter condition of the table property. Open the table property by right clicking. On the "Filter" tab choose the expression as "Fields" items and double click "CustomerName" to add in the expression. Similarly add second
    field "CustomerNumber" in the expression. Check the operator "=" and choose the value as "Parameter" items respectively.

  • Disabling the Enter Parameter Value dialog box

    I'm developing Crystal Reports in a WPF application using CRVS2010
    The issues I'm having are the following:
    I am attempting to pass parameter values to a report. I have been able to set a several paramater values by using the following syntax:
    ReportObject.SetParameterValue("ParameterName1", ParameterValue1);
    ReportObject.SetParameterValue("ParameterName2", ParameterValue2);
    ReportObject.SetParameterValue("ParameterName3", ParameterValue3);
    ReportObject.SetParameterValue("ParameterName4", ParameterValue4);
    Issue #1:
    Each time I run the application sometimes the report will display with the report data and parameter values; Other times, just before the report displays, it will prompt me to "Enter Parameter Value".
    How do I prevent this dialog box from displaying so that the programmed parameter values will display instead?
    Issue #2:
    When the Refresh button on the Viewer control menu is clicked a dialog box prompts ask if the new parameter values should be used or to use the old parameter values.
    How do I prevent this dialog box from displaying and refresh the paramater values?
    I know that there is a ReuseParameterWhenRefresh property that's part of the ViewCore class but I'm not sure how to use it to eleviate the issue I'm having on the refresh.
    Any help that can be provided with this most urgent matter (on my part of course) would be most appreciated.

  • Crystal Report Viewer 11.5 Java SDK - How to set sub report parameter value

    Good day!
    I have a report with 3 sub-reports in the detail section. Main report has two parameters and each sub-report has one parameter in turn. We have our own JSP to receive parameter values from the user. I am using the following code to do the parameter value setting later into the report. Parameter value setting works for main report, but not for the sub-report.
    I get an Error, for the first sub-report, from the viewer saying:
    The parameter 'parametername' does not allow null values
    On this article: [article link|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/oss_notes_boj/sdn_oss_boj_bi/sap%28bd1lbizjptawmq==%29/bc/bsp/spn/scn_bosap/notes%7B6163636573733d36393736354636443646363436353344333933393338323636393736354637333631373036453646373436353733354636453735364436323635373233443330333033303331333233313337333233323331%7D.do]
    It says to set the report name of the parameter field to the name of the sub report. On this aspect, assuming this tip/solution works, I would like to read the names of the sub-reports and their parameter names. I do not want to hard-code them into our application.
    Here is my current code:
    sdk.occa.report.data.Fields parameterFields = new Fields();
    I have a HashMap of <parameterName, parameterValue>
    Iterate through the map
    report.data.ParameterField aParameterField = new ParameterField();
    aParameterField.setReportName(""); //main report
    report.data.Values theValues = new Values();
    ParameterFieldDiscreteValue aParameterFieldDiscreteValue = new ParameterFieldDiscreteValue();
    aParameterFieldDiscreteValue.setValue (aValue);
    theValues.add(aParameterFieldDiscreteValue);
    aParameterField.setName(parameterName)
    aParameterField.setCurrentValues(theValues);
    parameterFields.add(aParameterField);
    viewer.setParameterFields(parameterFields);
    Please look at the line:
    aParameterField.setReportName(""); //main report
    Here's where I would like to say
    if (parameter is subreport's parameter) then setReportName(subreport name);
    Thx

    It was little difficult to navigate down the objects to find the sub reports and their parameters. I am attaching the code:

  • Missing parameter values - mystery solved

    I've tracked down why I was getting this error to the refresh method of the ReportDocument object.
    The sequence of execution is as follows;
    load report
    get/set parameter values
    set database location
    refresh report
    export report
    The refresh step clears all the parameter values and defaults.  I can't believe that this is correct behavour but hey ho, I'll try and work around it by saving all the parameter values to local storage when I open the report and then reset them after the refresh.
    Is this correct?
    Steve

    No, that is exactly how the refresh is supposed to work actually.
    The reportdocument.refresh call removes saved data. That includes any parameters set on the report.
    99% of people who call reportdocument.refresh do not have a need to do so to be honest.
    If you are using an empty report template (ie a report that does not have saved data) then you should not need to call it at all.
    If you want to call it just to make sure, do it before you do anything else, then pass any information you need to the report object.

    Hi Hasan,
    Per my understanding you want to add mutilple value parameters to filter the data in the sharpoint list datasource report, right?
    I have a test based on the step by step details information in below link and all works fine which will make the multiple value parameter works fine:
    https://audministrator.wordpress.com/2014/02/17/sharepoint-list-add-distinct-parameter-value/
    Add the custom code from above link
    Parem1 is the parameter which get values from a query and with all the values(duplicate value),please setting as below:
    Param2 is the parameter which will display in the report have done the deduplication, check the "Allow Multiple values" and then Specify the available value and default value using below expression:
    =Split(Code.RemoveDups(JOIN(Parameters!Param1.Value, ",")), ",")
    Add the filter and preview.

  • Crystal Reports 2008 SP3 Additional parameter values are needed

    I recently upgraded to Crystal Reports 2008 SP3, and now when I try an export a report from the Crystal Reports Designer, I get the error "Additional parameter values are needed before this report can be saved or viewed with data.  Click 'Ok' to enter the missing values or 'Cancel' to proceed without data".  I am trying to export the report to Crystal Reports format.  The report is getting data from a MS SQL 2005 stored proc. I tried building a new simple report (just took all the fields in the result set and put them in the details section) using the same stored proc, and get the same error when I try to export.
    FYI, before I try to export I always preview the data in the report, so the parameters are defiantly set correctly.
    This was working correctly in Crystal Reports 2008 SP2.
