Where to find validator-rules.xml

A n00b-question, but quite irritating. I've read a few articles on Struts and validation, but where the hell can you find the validator-rules.xml. I assume it's a file that comes packaged with the validator framework, one that you don't need to create yourself. But when I look in the jar-files, I can't find it anywhere. I've googled it too, with no result.

the -lib. file contain the xml and the struts's jar...

Your error message are not displaying because u does not made Message-Resoucrce property file (Resource Bundle) when you make it .
give it entry in
struts-config.xml
<message-resources parameter="ApplicationResources" />
and
define key and corresponding error message to key in this ApplicationResources i.e
#Error Resources
label.search.ssNum=Plz Enter correct ssNum

Error while Loading the validator-rules.xml in Struts 1.2

Hello Guys,
I am trying to use the Struts 1.2.4 on Jdk1.3 inside WSAD5.1 and i get the following error when loading the application. It breaks on the fist line inside validator-rules.xml witht hte following error. My first line in the validator-rules.xml is

I do have the commons-validator inside the Lib folder. I also tried it out by removing the above reference to dtd in the validator-rules.

Renaming Validation-rule.xml and Validation.xml

Is it possible to rename Validation-rule.xml and validation.xml files in the Struts Validation framework.
will the validation work both the files are renamed to say abc-rule.xml or xyz.xml.
please provide your feedback on this.

Please check the syntax of the StrutsConfig.xml (As wel as other XML files)or check for the Data Type Defination of the XML for the Tomcat version you are using.

Where to find - javadocs for XML Publisher' API

The XML Publisher User's Guide section, called Implementation and Developer's Guide->Application Layer APIs, has examples of API's for inserting Templates and Data Definitions.

Where to find package org.xml.sax ?

We can find the doc of the package of org.xml.sax or org.xml.sax.ext ..etc in the core java api doc , but when I goto the directory of j2sdk/jre/lib , I cann��t find the org.jar . Are all the *.jars which is under the j2sdk1.4 not include the org.xml.sax ? Or there are some *.jars have included the org.xml.sax , can you tell me which one is ?

It's the same place as all the other classes, which on my computer is

We have installed Mobile Travel Expense and are wanting to add a custom help list for the field REASON. The documentation from 'Enhancement Guide' says we must create tables in both SAP R/3 and Mobile Travel Expenses Repository (files ci_types.xml, ci_tables.xml). I have not found these files ???

i made an enhancement with Mobile Time. There the same files are used to enhance the repository on the client.
In the described files you have to declare the database tables. Build a package and add the files in correct way(More about this, see Enhancement Guide).
The structure of the package(zip-file) must look like:
wwwroot\te_customer\extensions\ci_tables.xml
wwwroot\te_customer\extensions\ci_types.xml
After up-and download with WebConsole and restart of ME the declared tables are ready to use on the client.
For test you can add the files manually to:
...SAPMobileEngine\webapps\me\WEB-INF\wwwroot\te_customer\extensions
(don't forget to restart the ME)
The declared tables will be created and filled with content until the next synchronisation.
The location of the created table content is:
SAPMobileEngine\webapps\me\WEB-INF\wwwroot\te_data\customer\database\<name_of_declared_table.xml>

Enabling Client-Side Validations
In addition to providing a framework for simplifying server-side form data validations, Validator provides an easy-to-use mechanism for performing client-side validations. Each validation routine defined in the validator-rules.xml file optionally specifies JavaScript code that can be run in the browser (client side) to perform the same validations that take place on the server side. When run on the client side, the validations will not allow the form to be submitted until they have all passed.
To enable client-side validation, you have to place the HTML Tag Library's javascript tag in each JSP for which you want validation performed, as shown here:

How to Add/Edit validation rule for Column in ADf table(Jdeveloper11g)

I am working on Jdevloper11g with ADF table. There i have one column where user can enter numeric value in range 1-1000 .So i have to add validation as such he/she can't enter value apart from 1-1000 range also not any other charcters.
I know on form, if i select attribute from binding and right click i will find one option "Edit Vlaidation rule..." and from there i can change validation rule for perticular field.
But how i can achive same on Column's filed??

Where to put validation logic...

Hi,
We have a lot of validation logic in our database. Next to the normal foreign key, check, unique constraints, we use triggers for validation (which throw errors with custom error codes when needed).
On top of the database we are building a fairly large JClient based application using the BC4J framework. BC4J offers the possibility to use validation beans for validating the entity row. We are wondering if we should use this. If we implement the validation logic for each entity we are actually duplicating the validation logic that's already available in the database. And some database constraints are easily implemented using the standard validation beans (like not null and unique checks), but more complex validation rules can sometimes only be done in the database (so we need to use the database for validation using a method validation bean).
Like I said this means a lot of duplicating validation logic. Which first of all is an inefficient thing to do. Second validation logic can change over time, which means we need to change the logic on two places. It's easy to forget to change the logic on one place.
We found a way to somewhat use the database validation logic for validating entity rows. We just simple insert a row in the database and post the changes. If the new row contains an error an exception is thrown. This JBO exception contains a reference to the SQL exception. Which can be used to retrieve the database error code. Unfortunately we have not found a good way (yet) to find out where the error occured (in which trigger for example). Error codes don't have to be unique so it's important to know in which context they occured. Another problem with this method is we can't do an early validate on a limitted set of row data. E.g. we sometimes use wizards in our application for adding new rows. We really want to check the data after each step in the wizard (step by step). This is ofcourse impossible with the database logic. This means we again need to create the same validation logic again. I don't think it's even possible to use the row.validate() method for this (and ofcourse implement the validation logic in the entity too), because this method validates the complete row.
In short, where is the best way to put validation logic? And (how) can this be done without duplicating (to much) logic?

business rules would be in the business layer not
persitance layer..So in this case, they would be in
the bc4j entity objects.. Well most of them are simple integrity constraints, but sometimes we have to check things using triggers which are way more complicated and need extensive database access. It's more logical to do that in the database. If the trigger runs into a problem it raises an application error. We are hoping we can use this error somehow in our application.
That assumes that the only way a user can modify that
data is through your application only.Well it is, and if another application is written for it the BC4J entities etc. will probably be re-used, but like I said there are other reasons for not having all the business-rules in the BC4J layer.
by the way, are you migrating an existing application
that already has all the business rules in the
database?No, it's a brand new application, but we started out with defining a lot of business rules in the database because that seems a more logical place to put them (to us). I understand that some business-rules can better be implemented in the BC4J entities, but it's not that easy for every business rule we have.

Validation rules applied to data migration templates at import

Hi everyone!
First post here for me, so please bear with me if I missed something.
My company has just started the initial implementation of ByDesign. We come from a set of disparate and partially home-grown systems that we outgrew a few years ago.
As part of this initial phase, we are basically re-creating the data on customers, suppliers, etc. since none of our existing systems makes a good source, unfortunately. We will be using the XML templates provided by ByDesign itself to import the relevant data.
It has become clear that ByDesign applies validation rules on fields like postal codes (zip codes), states (for some countries), and other fields.
It would be really helpful if we could get access to the rules that are applied at import time, so that we can format the data correctly in advance, rather than having to play "trial and error" at import time. For example, if you import address data, the first time it finds a postal code in the Netherlands which is formatted as "1234AB", it will tell you that "there needs to a space in the 5th position, because it expects the format to be "1234 AB". At that point, you stop the import, go back to the template to fix all the Dutch postal codes, and try the import again, only to run into the next validation issue.
We work with a couple of very experienced German consultants to help us implement ByDesign, and I have put this question to them, but they are unaware of a documented set of validation rules for ByDesign. Which is why I ask the question here.
So just to be very celar on what we are looking for: the data validation/formatting rules that ByDesign enforces at the time the XML data migration templates are imported.

The checks performed on postal codes are country specific, and represent pretty much the information that you would find in places like e.g. the "Postal Codes" page in Wikipedia.
I recommend to start with small files of 50-100 records that are assembled of a representative set of different records, in order to collect the validation rules that need reactions based on your data in an efficient way. Only once you have caught these generic data issues, I would proceed to larger files.
Personnaly I prefer to capture such generic work items on my list, then fix the small sample file immediately by editing, and do an immediate resimulation of the entire file, so that I can drill deeper and collect more generic issues of my data sample. Only after a while when I have harvested all learnings that were in my sample file, I would then apply the collected learnings to my actual data and create a new file - still not too large, in order to use my time efficiently.
