Where to install new classes

I downloaded some graphing classes, where can i stick them so I can import them into a new porgram I am writting up??

Well it depends on how want to set things up.
If you have the jar file you can put it in the top level directory of your program and include in the compile command //might want to check on syntax. just type javac with no arguments.
javac -classpath whatever.jar *Or if you extract the files from the jar you can simply place them in the same directory and javac should automagically find them for you.
Othere words if you were writing org.mine.SimpleJava.java and it used a package called foo.bar.FooBar the foo and org directories should be on the same level.

Where to save new classes

Hi All,
Another numpty question from me....
I have tried to follow what info i could from the net, but i can't get it to work.
Basically, what would appear to be a pretty cool tutorial which also lets you download the class files (i think that's what they're called), which you then import in the actionscript.
The prob is that i have no idea where to save this file so that i can import it. I thought i had figured it out and tried to save it in FlashCS4>Common>FirstRun>Classes>mx
I then created a sub directory called com which contained more subdirectories and then the .as file.
WHen i try to import it using:
import com.sub1.sub2.sub3.myNewClass;
i get errors saying that the definition could not be found....
so frustrating!!
Any help would be much appreciated!

It's a little tough to diagnose with just that info but there are a couple of things you can check. First of all, the class file is case sensitve (typically starts with a capital letter). So let's call the folder where you have your fla file the root folder. If you're going to refer to a class called MyClass that is in the following folder
root (where your fla file is)
   --- com
       --- utilities
           --- MyClass.as
in the fla you would use a statement such as
import com.utilities.MyClass;
at the top of the file. Is that responsive to your question?

RAM ACCESS DOOR - WHERE to install new pram battery

Need to replace pram battery. reading other posts indicate it is possible to go thru the ram door
but where is it? This is a machine that was donated today and is 'new' to my table. I've later models but want to get this one operative and time/date indicates new battery. I've replaced them in older and later models but never iMac.
Unable to find a manual on line; the Apple reference in a PDF from Apple Site referred to an 'online instruction' that I have not found. There is a take-apart of the EARLIER iMac versions with the tray load.

This one was pretty easy as it is a common DIY function that people would expect to do themselves, as are most other operations listed there. When it's common like these, it's usually on the main support page for the Mac model. You can also find hardware and software updates specific to a model on that page.
The harder ones are the more esoteric subjects, and the current Apple search system is about as user-friendly as a stepped-on rattlesnake. I use this semi-hidden "advanced search" link:

where you can do some adjusting of search parameters. When using this search page for older models like the G4 iMacs, I always select "include archives." The results tend to be numerous and rather wide of the mark; you sometimes have to change a search term to get something useful.
Some people have reported that using Google actually gets you to the Apple help files you need faster than the internal search system. Hopefully, upcoming changes to the forums will remedy that.

Where should i install new apps? like games?

When i click to install new apps and games it asks me where i would like to install it, Phone memory or External memory, i realise that the phone memory is quicker but theres less space there... would i be able to install apps to external memory with no problems?. I have the N95 8GB...

I always install apps on a memory card, or in the case of the N95 8GB to the secondary mass storage.

So, in iTunes, when you look at the shuffle's content (in the sidebar) and click on the playlist under the shuffle, over to the right, the songs are in your desired order, correct? Where do you look, or what do you do, that indicates the playlists are in alphabetical order? Are you saying that when you play the songs while using the shuffle, they play in alphabetical order?
If so, when you listen to the songs on the shuffle, are you using the playlist, or are you using the All Songs list? If you are in the default All Songs list, with the shuffle's power switch set to play-in-order (the middle position), the songs play alphabetically, I believe.
The 3rd gen shuffle uses VoiceOver. If you are in the All Songs list, you need to use VoiceOver to switch to the playlist (see manual linked below for details). When you are in the playlist (with the shuffle's power switch set to play-in-order), then the songs should play in playlist order.

I just updated the software on my iPad and now I cannot update my Aps or install new ones. I ran a diagnostic and that resulted in "power issue." It wouldn't let me select what my options were. Any ideas?

Don't know where to get help. I just updated the software and I am having issues with not being able to update Aps or install new ones. The circles just spin and Aps just say "waiting." I tried running a diagnostic with the apple store and it came back with "power issues" (?) as a result. It wouldn't let me select an option to see what steps I could take to fix it, it just backed out of the page. I just don't know what to do.....

Thank you for your reply, I did go to my general settings, but for some odd reason I don't have a restrictions setting, or a reset setting. I thought I could reset all the setting to see if it could be that, but as I said there aren't any.
My husband also has the iPad 2, and also did the software update and hasn't had any problems at all. I took both iPad's and compared the settings thinking maybe there could be a setting that could have been changed when the update was done.

I have a mini laptop "Toshiba nb200-10z" and it doesnt startup anymore.
I would like to do a recovery, but it also doesnt work.
I know there is a shortcut like press the 0 button when the laptop is starting up.
With this shortcut you can start the recovery to reset the software.
But when I press the 0 button it gives me an error.
So I think the recovery drive/partition is lost.
How can I install new windows on this minilaptop without a CD drive?

I have found a much easier way to install Windows 7 from a USB Flash drive. Unlike other methods where you have to write complicated commands, this method can be completed even by those who have very little computer background.
The whole process takes only two steps, run UNetbootin, load the Windows 7 ISO file, and finally restart your computer.
Before you begin, you will require the following:
USB Flash Drive (4GB minimum)
Windows 7 ISO Image file
UNetbootin
Note: If UNetbootin doesnt work, try out the Microsofts official tool called Windows 7 USB/DVD Tool.
Now insert the USB drive, run UNetbootin, and select Disk Image as ISO. Browse your local drive for Windows 7 ISO that you downloaded and click Open. Now Select Type as USB and choose the drive. Once done, it will look like a bit similar to the screenshot shown below.
Click OK and it will begin extracting all installation files to the USB drive. The whole process will take some time (10-15 minutes), so have patience.
Once the installation is complete, reboot your computer. Now while your system is starting up press the appropriate button (usually F1, F2, F12, ESC, Backspace, or Escape) to bring up Bios Boot Menu.
Change the startup order to boot USB by default, usually you will have to press F6 to move the selected USB device on top. Once done, save changes and restart the system.

Where to install Thunderbird on Mac OSX for multiple users.

I would like to install the email program Mozilla Thunderbird on my Mac OSX (10.4.6) computer which is set up with several different user accounts. I am not sure where to install it so that everyone may be able to use it. I would like to install it once so that everyone may use it rather than installing it multiple times (once for each user).
As you might already know, in Mac OSX when you install a program in the main applications folder, it is available for everyone who uses the computer (available to all accounts). However, the trouble is, that although the actual Thunderbird program is available to all users the profile is not. The profile obviously is an important component of the Thunderbird mail program as it contains all the actual mail messages. When Thunderbird is installed, by default the profile folder is placed in the users home Library folder at:
users home folder/Library/Thunderbird/Profiles/<Profile name>/
This location make it impossible for other users to access the profile and therefore Thunderbird will not work for the other users.
What should I do?
I have a couple solutions, however I would like to ask for some advice on what others do in this situation which I am sure is fairly common.
Here are my solutions:
1. Move the profile folder to a custom location that is accessible by all users in OSX such as the global Library folder (rather than the user's Library folder). Path of global Library folder:
/library/
Then let Thunderbird know it was moved to this custom location using Thunderbird's profile manager.
2. Try to figure out a way in mac OSX that allows the profile folder at this default location:
users home folder/Library/Thunderbird/Profiles/<Profile name>/
to be accessible by all users.
Ownership and permissions need to be changed for the profile folder maybe?
3. Install thunderbird multiple times - once for each user - each with their own profile. The problem with this is then there will be multiple installations of the same program and they will not be able to share the same profile folder - which is what I would like to do - if possible.
I have a feeling that solution 1 is the more logical solution.
PS I am using Mac OS 10.4.6 (Tiger) with Thunderbird 1.5.0.4

Interesting. Thanks for pointing this out Scott. Good to know. This would seem to me to be similar to IMAP in some ways. This would be a good way to work in a multi-user environment. This is good info to be aware of.

Thanks to both of you for steering me aware from the difficulty of attempting to place the profile folder outside the home directory. This sounds like it would have been more work than necessary.
Why am I not using Apple's Mail program? Good question. I thought I would try out Thunderbird for a while - and maybe switch to Apple Mail later - just to see which one I prefer. I am a web developer and I have always liked the open source community and I thought it would be beneficial for me to become as familiar as possible with all the Mozilla products (Firefox and Thunderbird). As well, it keeps me somewhat on the same wavelength as my PC friends, of whom many use this program too. I don't want to be too much out of touch with my mac. I might try Mail later. Thunderbird has been great so far. It has excellent spam recognition abilities and you can train it too to detect spam.

I have learned a lot from this post. This gives me a few logical solutions. As Mulder points out it is best to keep users' profiles separate. This makes it simpler. Excellent advice. I could still install the Thunderbird application in the global application folder and then each user account can open this Thunderbird application from their own account and configure the mail client with their own profile. All users will be using the same Thunderbird application but with their own profiles. Yes, thats it. I tried this out and it seems to work now - didn't seem to work earlier because I didn't know what I was doing
Another idea could be, if I really need to share one single profile, would be to follow Scotts advice and just set up a "Family account". Very simple solution. Nice idea.
So, those are the two top solutions.
Furthermore, I could use a mix of both strategies. For mail accounts that could be shared ([email protected]) I could create a "Family account" in OSX, as Scott detailed above, and then for mail accounts that are for each individual user ([email protected]), I could be sure they have separate profiles as detailed in Mulder's post.

Installed new RAM now computer wont start up

I just installed 2GB of RAM in my iMac and removed the 512mb card it had originally.when i pressed the power button it beeps fast a few time then the fan starts working really fast. The screen doesnt turn on only the sleep light blinks as the fan runs. I replaced one of the new cards with the original 512mb card and it starts but when i check the memory the slot where the new 1GB card appears "empty" why could this be? did i install incorrectly?

When you install new RAM you have to push much harder than you think you should. You won't damage the RAM, but you have t give a mighty push to seat it, make sure you hear a click.

How to add new class to existing DC (Web Dynpro project)

How can I add new class to an existing DC (Web Dynpro project)?
I tried adding it using File - New - Other - Java - Class, but after a build of the DC the new class (and its contents ) was completely removed.
Then I created a new DC (java project) and created a new class in that DC. This went fine, but I got into problems because of circular referencing between the new & the old DC, so no build was possible.
This can't be difficult, does somebody knows how to do it?
My temporary solution is to add the classdefinition to an exisiting .java file. Very ugly.

Hi Jeroen,
where did you create the class? If the *.java file is placed in the src/packages folder it should not be deleted by a build. (I suspect you created it in the gen_wdp folder?)

Administrator error message when installing new software

Hi~
I am working with an ibook on OS X.2.8. I gave this computer to my dad when I got a new one and set up an account for each of us, both with administrator priviledges. I just tried to install new software and it keeps telling me that I don't have permission to install software on the default location of macintsoh HD and to check with the administrator... even though I am the administrator. It didn't offer me an opportunity to enter a password or to install the software in an alternate location. I tried installing a different program to see if it was a problem specific to this application and found the same difficulty. I tried both accounts and this happened in both. Then I tried setting up a new account as an administrator and this didn't work either. Then I delelted all accounts except for my dad's account. I've checked the permissions in system prferences mutliple times. Nothing works. Any ideas? I would appreciate any help as this is very frustrating and this computer will soon be useless if we are unable to install updates or new software.

I've checked the permissions in system prferences mutliple times.
You nreed to repair them in Disk Utility, then reboot, but I'd make second admin account again for safety.
Let's see where we are after that.

Where to place application classes to override shared calsses?

I use web application which requires to override some of shared classes. Where should I place these classes? It is necessary to override these classes in this application only. Placing it in WEB_INF/classes subdirectory inside web application folder has no effect. The only way I have found - to place these classes inside APPS subdirecory. But in this way all deployed applications will use these new classes. Can anyone help me?

Put these classes in WEB-INF/classes and enable dynamic reloading. To do that-
open krededit-> SOFTWARE-> iplanet-> Application Server->6.0->CCS0->SYSTEM_JAVA->Versioning and set it to 0. Bydefault it is 1, disabled. And restart the iAS to pickup this change.
Or, redeploy the application.

No option where to install XP

I have Leopard on my mini and formatted my drive for XP. When the XP install gets to the blue screen asking where to install, I do not get the options where to install mentioned in the BootCamp instructions, I just get Windows asking what to do (install, repair, quit). I cannot get out of this screen at this juncture. I take out the disc and then I get the "unbootable drive..." message.
Does anyone experience the same?

I have the same problem. I don't get an option on which partition to install Windows too, even though I have successfully created a bootcamp partition (as it can be seen in my desktop).
I only get the 1 partition (which is the Mac partition) to select.
I only have this problem with my new iMac. I don't have the problem with my Macbook

How to add new class in modified template...

Finally I have encourage myself to scratch to (for me deepest darkwood) templates...
I have modified original Theme 2 to My theme 2 and added in some tempaltes region my parts-looks promising.
Now I want to create sidebar region that is 450 px wide.
It should be the same sidebar region but with different width!
I saw on file system that there is .css so I add this class in it....(as aspected) it is not shown in template class list...
I am able to apply that new class to template, but I cannot see that class in "Template Class" LOV (in Edit Region Template form).
Is that important and could this bee seen in that list?

What is still bothering me is that I have editeted "theme_V2.css" file. I'm plannig to put my app on hosted WEB site in Germany, where this file will not be the same as is on my server.
How to achieve future compatibilty according this?
