Where to learn iPhone programming

Hi.
I'm totally new to iPhone or any other type of programming and I have never built any application but I really want to learn to program for iPhone in the latest iOS 4 Xcode. I have searched a lot for tutorials but any have the sufficient information or begin to explain as if the viewer already has experience with objective-C for example.
So does someone knows where can I find good tutorials for people who have never programmed in their lives for iPhone specifically?
Thanks a lot.

I would recommend you not to use tutorials but to read books on Obj-C, because they give a more complex knowledge of programming. For an absolute beginner, I'd recommend "Programming in Objective-C" by Stephen Kochan. This book will give you yhe basis of Mac OS and iPhone programming. Then you should read this book: "Beginning iPhone 3 Development: Exploring the iPhone SDK" By Jeff LaMarche and David Mark (http://www.apress.com/book/view/9781430224594). (btw, there are also some other great books on iPhone programming by these authors).
Hope it helps,
Mike

  • Want to learn iPhone Programming on 10.5 PPC, can i do this?

I want to self teach my self to program iPhone applications, i have no programming experience so inwill be starting from scratch. I have got the book 'Objective-C For Absolute Beginners' but before I begin I wanted to check I can learn using my system. I have a iMac G4 PPC running Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard which means I cannot run the latest version of Xcode. Is the latest version of Xcode that can run on 10.5.8 and on a PPC machine okay for me to practice and learn how to use Xcode and program for the iPhone? Because I don't have the money but when I can afford it I will upgrade to an intel computer maybe in a years time. But will it do for now?

    AndiWhitts wrote:
Yes that's what I'm after, so writing program's for my mac is similar to iPhone app development only with a different UI ect.? and they definitely both use Objective-C? And the current Xcode I got with my leopard install will have everything I need won't it.
There are definitely some similarities. The lower-level libraries are very similar. At the application level, and the UI architecture level, they are significantly different.
I just wanted to make a start before I get an intel mac but I didn't want to learn it all then have to start from scratch when I get an intel mac because it is completely different.
You wouldn't start from "scatch" because it wouldn't be "completely" different. You would be starting near the beginning because it is 70% different.
If you want to start with the machine you have, focus on writing Mac apps. In a year, maybe you might have something that you could port to Xcode4 and release in the App Store.
Any machine made since 2007 will run Lion.

  • From where to start android programming ?

the question pretty much explains it. i have almost completed java programming. i have completed half of java essential classes from oracle java tutorials but what i mean is which ide should i download and from where should i learn it. for java programming i have been using netbeans and i think it also supports android programming. any suggestions would be appreciated.

I would start from here: https://developer.android.com/training/index.html
This is where I started 2-3 years ago, when Eclipse was the preferred (only?) IDE.
I have no idea if they still base the tutorials on Eclipse only, but if it is so, I would not mind learning another IDE for the sake of learning Android programming.
Advice: do not get too deep into Java GUI programming, because Android does not use AWT/Swing. Most of the rest of your Java background will be very useful.

  • Learn iphone development

Where would be the best place to start with learning iPhone Development?  What classes, courses, books, videos, tutorials, etc. would be the best place for a beginner to start with.

If you haven't already, wait to purchase a Developer Account until you know what you are doing. Download Xcode and experiment, even put your prototype app on your iOS Device. (Or Mac, if it's Mac Dev you're into)
Until you are sure Development is what you want to do, I'd steer clear of a Paid Developer Account. Be sure you can handle the workload that comes with it too, including the nonstop demands of app users harassing you by email and reviews on the App Store.

    Hello All,
I a college student and I am interested in learning Java programming. Where would be a good place for me to start?
    Thanks

    Hi Gerald
This is a user-to-user forum, and your message will not be received by Apple. You will need to sign into your Developer/MFI account, and contact Apple that way. This can be done here.

  • "Works with iPhone" Program

Has anyone had success in enrolling in the "Works with iPhone" program? I am designing an accessory right now but have not heard back from Apple. How long did it take to get a response? What was the process you went through?
    Thanks.

No. I am already part of that.
This program is if you wanted to design your own stereo that works with the iPhone (for example).

  • Adobe CS5.5 Design Premium - What is the most logical order to learn the programs in this suite?

Okay, so I want to become a real Adobe fan.  I have CS5.5 Design Premium, I am running Windows 8, I have both a digital camera and video recorder and I have a Bamboo drawing tablet.
What would be the most logical order to learn the programs in the Adobe CS5.5 Design Premium?
Could you provide recommendations for using the online video trainings?

The most logical order is dictated by your own needs. Sorry to be so blunt, but trying to determine the order of which tools and workflows based on "I'm hip when I know Photoshop." or similar is bound to take you nowhere. Any of the individual programs has more features than even pros who use them every day will ever use. Everyone only uses the part relevant to get the work done. That being so, you could be watching tutorials for the next 5 years every day and still not have learned anything relevant. With that in mind there's realyl only two reasonable ways to learn:
    a) Attend a structured course.
    b) Come up with an idea for a specific project of your own.
A good place to start would be e.g. creating a photographic essay/ story - shoot some photos, edit them in PS, create a layout in ID, some logo in AI. Then you can look up specific tutorials for techniques as you go along.

  • How to learn swift programing language

i want to learn swift programing language.it seems i need xcode 6  for learning swift.so
should i buy both of developer accounts (ios developer, mac developer) for learning swift???

Can you explain it with more details.?
it seems swift is more easiyer than objective c.
and you said i most learn objective c and swift.right??
Not sure how much easier Swift will be to learn over C/Objective-C, took a quick look through the manual and while somethings are simpler overall the impression I got is that it will have it's own problems. Any language that is complex enough to do complex programs will be difficult, at least at first. What makes one language harder then another is how consistent. If you do one thing one way one time and then do it another way another time the language will be a pain to work with no matter how 'easy' it is.  From what I've read I'm a bit leery of Switf's consistency, but only time will tell.
As for learning C/Objective-C as ckuan wrote knowing more then one language is always a good thing, especially if you are looking to do this for work. But more importably as I wrote those languages won;t be going away anytime soon. All of the system and UI code is in C and-or Objective-C. The UI is all Objective-C. I'm still waiting to see how Swift will interface with the UI, but I have to believe that for more then the simplest interfaces a certain amount of Objective-C code will need to be written.
I suppose long term Apple's idea is to have all third part development done in  Swift. But I think that day is still off in the future. I see no waste of resources for a programmer new to Apple spending time with C/Objective-C.
    good luck
    regards
