Which account use to install Oracle software?

Hi!
Windows 2003 Server SP2
Oracle 10gR2
I have a question to experience Oracle database administrators...
Is there any differences between installing RDBMS from "Administrator" account and installing RDBMS from separate account with administrators privilege?
I'm not asking about procedures of installation.
I suspect that creator in file system will be different.
There will be any other differences? In registry hive? In files of installed software?
If Oracle software will be installed from "Administrator" account and after that I will create "other" account with administrator privilage and member of "ora_dba" group and use this "other" account to managed installed software I will have any problems?
Thanks for any advice.

Hello,
No, I've always installed Oracle with an "Administrator account" and, I don't remember
having a specific problem.
Anyway, if there's a problem which can prevent the installation, OUI will send you a
popup (for instance to stop a Service).
More over, you can check the installation "logs" also.
Best regards,
Jean-Valentin

According to the Jar Guide (http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/guide/jar/jarGuide.html)
    Executable Jar Files
On Microsoft Windows systems, the Java 2 Runtime Environment's installation program will register a default association for Jar files so that double-clicking a Jar file on the desktop will automatically run it with javaw -jar. Dependent extensions bundled with the application will also be loaded automatically. This feature makes the end-user runtime environment easier to use on Microsoft Windows systems.
The Solaris 2.6 kernel has already been extended to recognize the special "magic" number that identifies a Jar file, and to invoke java -jar on such a Jar file as if it were a native Solaris executable. A application packaged in a Jar file can thus be executed directly from the command line or by clicking an icon on the CDE desktop.
Despite that every JAR file can be executed as a program if and only if the META-INF/Manifest.mf contains the Main-Class tag. This done through java -jar jarfile.jar
    --olaf

  • Error in installing Oracle Software while adding node in RAC

    Hi All
    Oracle Version: 11.1.0.6.0
    Linux
In the RAC environment, I am in the process of adding a node to the existing rac environment.
I have succssfully installed cluster software in the new node. all gsd, ons and vip services are running perfectly for new node in the existing and new nodes.
Next step, I started installing oracle software by executing the script $ORACLE_HOME/oui/bin/addNode.sh.
Here after specifying the the new node information (public host, private host and vip details) and when I pressed next,
OUI is giving following error - "Error occured while retrieving node numbers of the existing nodes. Please check if clusterware home is properly configured".
I ran olsnodes -n, it is giving proper node number.
Can somebody help me in identifying the problem and solution.
    Thanks

I am hitting the same issue, my problem was when I added the new node initially it fails because of the hint8-priv1. I followed the link below to remove and cleanup the last install. olsnode show only my existing nodes NOT including the new node.
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B12037_01/rac.101/b10765/adddel.htm
    then I ran
    ./addNode.sh -silent CLUSTER_NEW_NODES={hint-8} CLUSTER_NEW_PRIVATE_NODE_NAMES={hint8-priv1} CLUSTER_NEW_VIRTUAL_HOSTNAMES={hint8-vip}
I am getting this when use command line:
Error ocurred while retrieving node numbers of the existing nodes. Please check if clusterware home is properly configured.
SEVERE:Error ocurred while retrieving node numbers of the existing nodes. Please check if clusterware home is properly configured.
also run addNode.sh via GUI, the new node name still listed and can't continue.
BTW, adding new node should support online, shutdown is not required

  • Who will install ORACLE software on linux production environment?

    Hi Friends,

If DBA means, whether system admin will share the oracle root password.,
If SYS admin means how DBA parameters during installation.

Since every version of Oracle available now (except 11.2) needs patches, a new installation should not create the database right away. Therefore, a software-only install is the most reasonable thing to do. And if no DB configuration parameters are required at s/w-only time, then it makes somewhat sense for the SysAdmin to do the install.
Therefore, it makes sense to me that the two groups (DBA and SA) might want to work ... together. (ROFLMAO)

  • How to install oracle software on AIX server

    Please guide me.
    Thanks.

    What I normally do is:
    - start via the putty session (loged in with the software install user) vncserver
    - give a password for the user.
    - on your desktop client you startup vnc viewer (can be downloaded free from internet)
    - use the machine ip/name and the earlyer given password

  • Which is better to install Oracle 11g database based on ASM or Filesystem

We will install 2 sets of Oracle 11.2.0.3 on Redhat Linix 5.6 and configure Data Guard for them further -- one will be a primary DB server, the other will be a physical standby DB server. The Oracle DB stoage is based on SAN Array Disk with 6TB size. Now there are two options to manage the DB datafiles:
    1. Install Oracle ASM
    2. Create the tranditional OS filesystem
Which is better? in the past, our 10g data guard environment is not based on Oracle ASM.
Someone think if we adopt the oracle ASM, the shortcomings are :
    1. as there is one more instance that will consume more memory and resource.
    2. as the ASM file system cannot be shown out on the OS level directly such as "df" command, the disk utilization monitor job will be more difficult. at least it cannot be supervised at OS level.
    3. as the DB bshoule be done the daily incremental backup (Mon-Sat) to Local Backup Drive. the bakup job must be done by RMAN rather than user-managed script.
Who can provide some advices? Thanks very much in advance.

Which is better? in the past, our 10g data guard environment is not based on Oracle ASM. ASM provides a host of new features ito data management, and performance - to the extent that you can rip out the entire existing storage system, replace it with a brand new storage system, without a single second of database downtime.
Someone think if we adopt the oracle ASM, the shortcomings are :
    1. as there is one more instance that will consume more memory and resource. Not really relevant on 64bit h/w architecture that removes limitations such a 4GB of addressable memory. On the CPU side... heck, my game PC at home has a 8 core 64bit CPU. Single die and dual core CPUs belong to the distant past.
Arguing that an ASM instance has overheads would be silly. And totally ignores the wide range of real and tangible benefits that ASM provides.
    2. as the ASM file system cannot be shown out on the OS level directly such as "df" command, the disk utilization monitor job will be more difficult. at least it cannot be supervised at OS level. That is a A Very Good Thing (tm). Managing database storage from o/s level is flawed in many ways.
    3. as the DB bshoule be done the daily incremental backup (Mon-Sat) to Local Backup Drive. the bakup job must be done by RMAN rather than user-managed script.
    rman supports ASM fully.
I have stopped using cooked file systems for Oracle - I prefer ASM first and foremost. The only exceptions are tiny servers with a single root disk that needs to be used for kernel, database s/w, and database datafiles. (currently these are mostly Oracle XE systems in my case, and configured that way as XE does not support ASM and is used as a pure cost decision).

  • Service Account used to installed Synchronization

    Hi All,
We have FIM installed and want to export the key, I have used the account running the service "Forefront Identity Manager Synchronization Service", it does not have the right to export the key, Is there is a way to find by which service account
    it got installed.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Raja Village Syc

    Raja,
The installation of the FIM synchronization engine adds the installing account to the FIMSyncAdmins group. I would expect that account to have these permissions.

  • Solaris 8 in ultra 2 got panic and auto reboot when install Oracle software

    Dear all,
I installed Solaris 8 by selecting 'Entire Solaris Software Group' and select 32 bit support only in an old ultra II machine. Then I tried to install Oracle 8.1.7 in the same machine but machine always got panic and started auto reboot when Oracle installed about 17% or 20% or even 70% (I tried install the minimum of Oracle).
What is the problem? Anyone can help?
    Thanks in advance,
    Vicky

I think you need to check the parameters like SHMMAX etc in /etc/system file as recommanded by oracle if not already added you need to add them .Oracle manuals have a list of these parameters and don't forget to reboot and boot with boot -r after adding these parameters.
Make sure you have sufficient memory or some patch recommanded by Oracle .

  • Determing if the installed Oracle software is 32 bit or 64bit

    DB version:10GR2
Is there a way to determine if the Oracle software installed is of 32-bit or 64-bit? I found
    this
    select
       length(addr)*4 || '-bits' word_length
    from
       v$process
    where
       ROWNUM =1;from: http://www.dba-oracle.com/t_32_bit_64_bit_check.htm

You can see it just entering Sql*Plus :

  • Synchronizing 8830 using previously installed Desktop Software

I have 8830 and a Curve.  I have installed the Desktop Software that came with the Curve.  When I tried to install the software that came with 8830, I received an error message and I can't install it.  Neither am I able to sync 8830 with the current Desktop Software.
Since I need to use both the Curve and 8830, how do I go about synchronizing both devices using the same Desktop Software?
    Thank you

The error message is "no applications configured for synchronization".

  • Mail program not listing which account used in the From: and To: descriptions

I have two separate email accounts, iMap and POP, that I access and use with the Apple Mail program in Snow Leopard. In the past, I could click on my name in either the To: or From: box and see which account/server the email came into or from. A while ago, that info started being less available for some reason. Now, it is never available. I can see the source (email address) of other peoples emails, but not mine.
This is all I see when I click on my name:
    Copy address
    Reply to Sender
    New message
    Open address book
    Create Smartmailbox
    Spotlight:"My name"
When I click on other names, I can see their email address. Never for my name, even though I will use two different email addresses depending on whether it is work-related or not.
This is annoying and seems like a feature has been changed. I can't figure out what setting I need to flip. What's goin on?
    Thanks,
    Nick

By default, Mail will always sent new messages from the account that is currently "selected" (ie, you have selected one of that account's mailboxes).  However, you can easily change this in Mail's preferences.  Choose Mail -> Preferences, then select the Composing tab, then change the pop-up menu next to "Send new messages from" to the desired account.

  • How canI check the architecture of the installed Oracle software?

Is there a way to check whether I have 32bit or 64bit version of Oracle software from within Oracle?
I want to script in a check to see if the current Oracle Home where this database is running is either 32-bit or 64-bit. It is not good enough to check OS architecture, as some systems I manage have 64-bit OS but a combination of 32-bit and 64-bit Oracle Homes.
I looked at v$parameter and could not find anything directly. SELECT platform_name FROM v$database does show architecture, but this only works on 10g and possibly 9i. On 8i, I cannot find any similar columns.
select * from v$version also shows if a system is 64-bit or not (32-bit shows no string in banner to indicate 32-bit)
But both the above methods are a bit vague: I do not know if they are simply greping the architecture from the OS or if they are examing the oracle binary?

Onto the database, check v$session, if saddr columns is raw(4), then db is 32bit (4*8), if it is raw(8), db is 64bits (8*8).

  • NT users used for installing Oracle Apps 11ir3

    Hi,
I read through the installation manual for Oracle Applications 11iR3 and have made several attempts to install it on NT4. However, I notice the only user account RapidWizard prompts me was the NT account for Concurrent Processing server, which is usually the "applmgr" account. This make me wonder: do we have to have two accounts, one for Oracle DB and the other for Applications on NT? If I only need one, which environment setup file should I run? APPSORA.CMD or <SID>.CMD in ORACLE_HOME?
    Thanks!

If you are using a separate account for the DB, then yes, you will end up with 2 accounts. Also, by default, the APPSORA.CMD calls the <SID>.CMD so it will not have to be run again.

  • Installing Oracle software through Sunworkstation

We have bought new sun workstaions running solaris8 on them. But 90% of out servers are IBM AIX. Management bought these workstation as they were cheap. and also make life easier for dba's during installtions. As no of CD's gone up from 2 to 3. But is there way install software from these sunwork workstions on AIX servers. As last guy who did this did not document the procedure. This would be a great help, if some answers the above questions.
    Thanks a lot
    Phanindra

The Oracle on the IBM systems will not run on the sun workstations. The next thing your management needs to do is buy licenses for the Oracle products you want to load onto your workstations. Help them out by telling them if you want 32-bit or 64-bit software. Then you either order CD Packs for the software you want http://oraclestore.oracle.com/ (mine came in 2 days) or download them from otn.oracle.com.
