Which chapters to Skip ?

I have Core Java Volume 1 Fundamentals Eighth Edition.
It covers --
Chapter 1: An Introduction to Java
Chapter 2: The Java Programming Environment
Chapter 3: Fundamental Programming Structures in Java
Chapter 4: Objects and Classes
Chapter 5: Inheritance
Done.
Chapter 6: Interfaces and Inner Classes
Chapter 7: Graphics Programming
Chapter 8: Event Handling
Chapter 9: User Interface Components with Swing
Chapter 10: Deploying Applications and Applets
Chapter 11: Exceptions, Logging, Assertions, and Debugging
Chapter 12: Generic Programming
Chapter 13: Collections
Chapter 14: Multithreading I have done the first five chapters thoroughly. I don't want to do the graphics programming. I want to go for JSP, Servlets, Struts and Hibernate. So over here i need help from you guys. Can any one please tell me the chapters i need to do so that i can build a strong base in JSP,Servlets etc. I think i can skip chapter 7,8,9. But i am not sure. And one more thing is that i don't have much time, i need to learn all the concepts within minimum time frame. So any help from your side would be appreciative. Thanks.
Also please do refer me a good book for JSP and servlets.

I have an interview coming for a software development job where they will probably ask me about a programming language and that would be java.Did you tell them that you have experience in Java? If you did, then you deserve to fail the interview. If you didn't, then be honest with them.
If you apply for a position that includes training on the job, then being honest about your current skill set is very important, or both of you will be very disappointed.
If you told them "I don't know any Java yet, but I'll do my best to learn parts of it", then go ahead and study.
So in the minimum time frame i want to go through all the concepts. You don't have enough time to go through "all the concepts".
Thats all. Once i clear that interview they would select me as a trainee and would start training me.Train you in what? Do they train you in Java or in a specific technology? Because if they don't train you in Java, you will have a lot of problems.

  • Which chapters from the reference guides for OCA 10g

    hi,
can anyone tell me; exactly which chapters do i have to study below reference guides to pass 1Z0-042. and will they be enough to pass the exam?
    thank you.
    1.AdministratorsGuide10gRelease2(10.2).pdf
    2.OracleDatabaseConcepts10gRelease2(10.2).pdf

Nope. No one that I know has done that kind of cross-reference.
Why don't you go through the exam requirements and the manuals and come up with that cross-reference for us? You'll accomplish 3 things
    - save the next generation from having to know stuff other than what is needed to pass
    - learn a whole lot that will be useful in your future job in addition to what you need to pass
    - create a list that you could sell to people on eBay

    Hey,
I have one movie on one track. My plan is to avoid editing a shorter version and use a script or something like that in DVD Studio Pro which assigns to skip one or two chapters once in a while. Is that even possible or would it be easier to edit a shorter version in final cut?

  • Can I Select from table skipping extents linked with lost datafiles?

    Hi~,
I need your help to recover my database.
I'm using oracle 9.2.0.8 at Fedora 3 with no-archive mode.
and I don't have any backup.
Last night, I experenced hard disk failure.
I tried OS-level recovery, but I lost some datafiles of tablespace.
anyway, I wanted to recover my database without data of lost datafiles.
so, I issued "alter database datafile offline drop" and
    start oracle instance.
But, datafiles were not removed from dba_data_files view and
extents linked with lost datafiles were not removed from dba_extents view!
Selecting query of some table containing extents linked with lost data files,
I got "ORA-00376: file xxx cannot be read at this time" message.
    So, my question is that..
HOW CAN I SELECT FROM THAT TABLE WITHOUT SCANNING EXTENTS LINKED WITH LOST DATA FILES?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Without being in archivelog and without backup, one can't do any sort of recovery. That's why backups and archivelog are so so important.
The offline data file command never does actually drop the datafile. It merely indicates to the control file that now the said tablespace will also be dropped. This won't update any view that the files are not supposed to be used or shown to you anymore.
This is what documentation says about the recovery of the database in the NoARch mode,
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/backup.102/b14191/osrecov.htm#i1007937
You do need a backup in order to get those tables being read. Oracle doesn't have any feature which can offline/skip the missing extents for you and let you read the data without them.

  • Is there a way of getting more than 6 chapters per page?

Is there a way of increasing the number of chapters per page? All the themes seem to stick to 6. I have a project with 76 chapters. That means my client will have to wade through 13 pages if they want to choose the 76th chapter! I don't need to show mini movies for each chapter - Just text. I'd like to fit 18-20 chapters on each page. I know I can achieve this with programmes like Adobe Encore - but its such a lot of work to manualy create the chapters.
    Any ideas anyone?

You can increase the number of chapters per page, but there is an upper maximum of about 10-12, depending on the theme chosen.
You cannot get 18-20 chapters per page. And, do think about how your finished project will appear. 20 chapters at a time may be very crowded, hard to read the titles and confusing for the viewers.
I did a project that had over 80 chapters, and placed them 10 to a page. That gave room to have nice titles and the video snippets as the marker buttons.
To get the 10 per submenu, you will need to do Cut/Paste/Delete from the submenus. Go ahead and let iDVD create the submenus for you with 6 chapters each. I find it easier to number the chapters first.
Go to the second submenu, that has chapters 7-12. Select chapter 7 and Copy. Go back to the first submenu and Paste it. You will probably have to move the chapters around to accommodate it. Go back to submenu 2 and Delete chapter 7. Then repeat the process for chapters 8, 9, and 10. Don't forget to change the submenus title to reflect which chapters on are which page.
Then go to submenu 3 and copy/paste/delete chapters 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 back to submenu 2. Leave 18 for now or you will lose that submenu. Go to submenu 4 and move chapters 19 and 20 to submenu 3. Now move chapter 18 to submenu 2.
Keep moving the chapters until you get the 10 per page on 8 submenus.
I don't know if DVDSP can have so many chapters per menu, but if you are fairly knowledgeable about such a program, you may want to look into it.

  • Skip Level Dimensions

    Dear all
We have a client with an interesting problem. I was wondering if the group could offer any feedback on this design question, where we think it involves a concept called 'skip levels'. The client is using Oracle 9.0.2 with their data mart cube held as ROLAP. Our first thoughts are that what they want to do is better served by using a true OLAP tool such as Oracle Express, or Oracle 9i OLAP, which deals with skip level dimensions easier. Anyway, here's the problem :
"For our warehouse project, we need some dimensions (initially: account, company) that use a skip level hierarchy. This means that the lowest level dimensions are of the same level (G/L account or company) and they need to roll up in a structure of varying levels, before they come together again in a highest level.
Ideally, we would like to use a data structure that can be used transparently by the user and allows for rollups of amounts through the dimension. We would like to be able to populate the dimension through OWB and to query the data using both Crystal reports v9 and BI beans and possibly other tools that recognize the Oracle data warehouse concept.
The two solutions we are aware of are:
    1.     Insert Dummy levels:
This is not a nice solution but is will work and it is simple.
    2.     Insert a helper table that contains the higher level account with all the children (as per Ralph Kimball)
This seems a cumbersome solution but I am sure it would work also. The question is how the Oracle's BI beans and the CWM2 metadata would recognize this and how we can make this transparent to the user.
I am sure there are other solutions to the problem. It seems like the problem would be solved by the next release of Oracle (9.0.3?), which allows us to deal with skip level hierarchies through CWM2 (which I believe this is). The solution we choose should also allow us to easily upgrade to the new skip level hierarchy, which I would expect to be easier to use then the above."
The main thing to bear in mind here is that they want to implement a ROLAP solution, using Oracle 9i tables, dimensions and heirarchies. It also has to work with Oracle Warehouse Builder, take advantage of the CWM2 metadata (if possible) and work with the BI Beans.
Any thoughts on this? Does anyone know how Oracle are going to cater for skip-level dimensions with the next release? Is this through the improved support for the CWM2 metadata standard for ROLAP cubes, or is the customer best of going to the true OLAP 'Analytic Workspace'? If we ignore a MOLAP solution, what's the best way of dealing with this, in such a manner that it's transparent to query tools, and isn't too much of a 'hack'?

As part of my search i've uncovered an article by Ralph Kimball on using 'helper tables' to deal with ragged hierarchies.
    http://www.dbmsmag.com/9809d05.html
    This advocates using a table between the fact table and the dimension. Quoting from Mr. Kimball;
"You can solve this modeling problem by inserting a helper table between the dimension table and the fact table, as shown in Figure 3 (http://www.dbmsmag.com/9809d05.html#fig3). Amazingly enough, you don't have to make any changes to either the dimension table or the fact table; you just rip the join apart and insert the helper table.
The helper table contains one record for each separate path from each node in the organization tree to itself and to every node below it. There are, then, more records in the helper table than there are nodes in the tree. In Figure 3 we need a total of 43 records in the helper table. See if you can work this out.
Each record in the helper table contains the fields:
    - Parent Customer Key
    - Subsidiary Customer Key
    - Depth From Parent
    - Lowest Flag
    - Topmost Flag.
If you are descending the tree from certain selected parents to various subsidiaries, you join the dimension table to the helper table and the helper table to the fact table with the joins as shown in Figure 3. The Depth From Parent field counts how many levels the subsidiary is below the parent. The Lowest Flag field is True only if the subsidiary has no further nodes beneath it. The Topmost Flag field is True only if the parent has no further nodes above it.
The beauty of this design is that you can place any normal dimensional constraint against the Customer dimension table and the helper table will cause all the fact table records for the directly constrained customers plus all their subsidiaries to be correctly summarized. In other words, you can use your standard relational databases and your standard query tools to analyze the hierarchical structure."
My question is - has anyone tried to implement this with OWB, or with the Oracle ROLAP data warehouse in general, reporting through Discoverer or BI Beans? Any opinions?
    thanks
    Mark

  • Can we skip the first screen after call transaction has been performed?

    Hello Friends,
I have written a program for INTERCATIVE REPORT .
When i click on the link it needs to call transcation MD4C.
I have written a BDC for calling the transaction and skipped first screen. Its working fine but the problem is that WHEN I TRY TO COME BACK TO MY REPORT OUTPUT USING(BACK OR EXIT OR CANCEL) BUTTONS THE CONTROL IS PASSING THRU THE FIRST SCREEN OF TRANSACTION MD4C and then its coming back to report output.
Now i dont need the first screen of the MD4C to be dispalyed when i use the BUTTONS.
That means i want to dirctly come to report output when i click (BACK OR EXIT OR CANCEL) BUTTONS.
    Hope the problem is clear.
    Is there any way?
    Please do suggest me.
    Thankx in advance,
    Sanghamitra.

    Hello everybody,
Thanks a lot for the quick replies.
The problem i m facing comes after the call transaction statement gets executed.
when the statement gets executed i m able to skip first screen and goto the required screen in the transaction but WHEN I PRESS BACK BUTTON THERE it is showing the initial screen which i have skipped.I dont want this scrren to be dispalyed. When i press back it should directly take me to the report output from where i have come to this transaction.
    Hope i m clear now?
    Any suggestions.

  • How to skip the Inbound Delivery while updating LA confirmations via EDI

    Hi Experts,
I have a requirement wherein I dont want to create Inbound Delivery automatically when updating the LA (or a copied Conf Cat of LA) confirmation via EDI.  When we are using the message type DESADV, LA confirmations are being updated, but simultaneously, the Inbound delivery also being created.  My client desires that Inbound Delivery should not happen and only LA confirmation should be updated via EDI.
Is there anyway, by which we can skip the Inbound Delivery while updating the LA confirmations in the PO?
    Thanks in advance

    Hey all,
I am migrating our main file server that contains approximately 8TB of data. I am doing it a few large folders at a time.  The folder below is about 1.2TB.  Looking at the log file (which is over 330MB) I can see it skipped a large number of files,
however I haven't found text in the file where it specifies what was skipped, any idea on what I should search for?
I used the following Robocopy command to transfer the data:
    robocopy E:\DATA Z:\DATA /MIR /SEC /W:5 /R:3 /LOG:"Z:\Log\data\log.txt"
    The final log output is:

    Hi.
Files that are skipped are files that already exists. Files that are open/permissions etc will be listed under failed. As Noah said use /v too see which files were skipped. From robocopy /?:
    :: Logging Options :
/V :: produce Verbose output, showing skipped files.

  • Encore Skipping Chapter Markers

I am working in Encore 2.0 in the final phase of the project. I've used this program many times before with little to no problems. Whenever I go to test the final DVD, both Encore and my DVD player will skip 3 of the 9 chapters on the menu. I have double and triple checked the formatting, that the text was selected as buttons, they were pointing to the correct marker, they were in the correct numerical order, and even if the layers were in order in Photoshop. All of the markers were all created from the same layer copy in Photoshop to make sure the formatting was the same for all markers (I have done this in the past with no problems). Also, with the skipping, using the down arrow to select chapters will skip the 3rd and 7th one on the way down, and on the way up you can select the 7th, but it will skip the second on the way up. I don't know what's going on and all of the forums I have read online have been no help!
Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
    - Thanks

Perhaps the button routing is incorrect:
First enable "Show Button Routing" in the Menu Editor. Then uncheck "Automatically Route Buttons" in the menu's Properties. Now you can drag and drop the arrows the way you want the navigation keys on the remote control to work.
