Which one is efficient???

I have a text file with huge data. I need to generate Oracle report from this file.
I have two options...
1. Creating External table and query the data from external table
2. Directly accessing data from text file.
Which one is efficient?
Thank you,
Prasad

hello,
i guess that depends on
a) how often your data changes
b) how often your report is run
c) how often the format of the data changes
d) is creating the report the only use for that file
if you have one single file that does not change and you want to use the data from other applications, i would load it intot he database. also if you generate a lot of reports off that data, going the database route would possibly be the best one.
on the other hand if creating a report off this data is more of an one-off thing and you might create a new version once in a while but don't need the data for anything else, you might want to access the data directly.
overall it's a performance vs. work issue. you will have to invest a bit of work to load the data into the database, but will have a much better performance if you use the data heavily, but if you only use it once in a while you might not want to invest in creating loader scripts or setting up a warehousebuilder mapping.

what is dbms_sql, execute_immediate?which one is efficient?

Efficient is to use static sql and don't bother with dynamic sql unlss you are FORCED to do that because it cannot be achieved with static sql. Most of the times it can.
Generally speaking dbms_sql is more efficient if you have to execute your statement over and over again, native dynamic sql aka execute immediate is more efficient if you need to do something only once.
Of course native dynamic sql is easier to code, although there may be times when you cannot live without dbms_sql for example if you don't know types or number of returning columns.
Anyway I repeat one more time - use static sql whenever possible.

Both are equally bad and are used by coders who just want to get things done and don't care about data integrity. So bottom line both are bad , avoid it.

  • Which one better to use - jsp:useBean or import statement

    Hi,
I just want to know that which one is better to use jsp:useBean or import statement .
I can instantiate and call method of myclass -
    1) by importing the class through import tag in jsp as <%@page import="myclass"%. or
    2). by using <jsp:useBean tag....
i have these two option to do the same thing. i know that basically useBean is used to call setter and getter method of bean class and but it can be used to call a normal java file that have some logic .
so what should i used , which one is better and why?
useBean provides scope and object instance so no need to create object by new operator. and with import you have to create an instance .
but which tag should i use in my jsp?
    i am confused???

ok, means i can use jsp:useBean tag for all my
classes that are not actually bean. so it will be
instantiated at run time and provide efficiency .No. Jsp:useBean is used for java bean components.
    >
but when should i use import statement in my jsp and
it happen at translation time so will it create any
type of burden for my code if i import multiple
classes. For non-java beans, you need to import the classes, period.
    It's not a burden, it's a necessity.

  • I'm debating between a Macbook Air or a Macbook Pro which one would you suggest?

I'm debating between a Macbook Air (MC965LL/A) or a Macbook Pro (MD313LL/A) which one would you suggest?
I will be using this for college and taking it to class with me.  My biggest fear is that I may be too hard on the Air and damage it, but I like that it is lighter and looks cooler.  But which one do you believe is more logical and provides the best computer quality overall?

    This is an objective comparison,
Meanwhile, we start from the price of their basic models, considering of course that could get discounts as a student in the Education Store. Required about 100 € more to buy an Air with the same screen size of this Pro and already, in some cases, may be enough to make your own choice.
Assuming a score to score, we could say: Pro 1 - 0 Air
Until recently, the beloved laptop for school purposes was the white MacBook.Orphaned "bianchino", now out of the list for some time now Apple, the Mac that is most on the economic front is approaching the Air 11 "(900 € on the edu store). Air 13 "display offers a native that could be called HiRes, identical resolution to that of Pro 15" base:
    Air 11 "(16:9) 1366 x 768 = 1,049,088 pixels
    Pro 13 "(16:10 format) 1280 x 800 = 1,024,000 pixels
    Air 13 "(16:10 format) 1440 x 900 = 1,296,000 pixels
The comparison on the screens is not to be taken seriously. After all, is what we will see during every second of computer work.
And so the challenge back in a tie: Pro 1 - Air 1
For size and weight comparison is merciless. The Pro is a portable slim, well built and, after all, not too heavy. However, this aspect of the Air is unsurpassed. He created a new category of laptops is so small wonder. The weight is also almost halved with 1.3 kg against 2Kg. For those who are always on the go is a godsend for the university and also the difference in the shoulder is remarkable.
We update our score: Pro 1 - Air 2
The battery is offered in both cases with a duration of 7 hours. 2-Air Pro 3. Another aspect that is rather in favor of a tie on the graphics: Both models use the Intel HD Graphics 3000 with 384MB of DDR3 SDRAM condivisa.Pro 3 - Air 4.
In academia, it may not feel quite the need for a Firewire port, but the fact remains that the Air does not have it.
I guess that's the case to score another point: Pro 4 - 5 Air
I scored a little more than necessary to have a complete line of Air, but for the purposes of this comparison we are interested in the value obtained from the Pro 13 'Air base and 13 "base. Both processors are dual core and, as you can see, the little guy gets along very well though with a slower clock. There is also a crucial aspect to consider: these data refer to the computing power but do not take into account the incredible speed-bump-up by SSD. Translated into monetary terms means that if the Pro 13 "is marginally faster when the CPU is under stress (such as video encoding) Air 13" is significantly more responsive in every area. By now you will present the advantages of SSD, as we talk about it constantly, and be assured that we are talking about really obvious differences in the everyday. The advantages obtained clearly outweigh the disadvantage resulting from a delay of a few seconds more in exporting an iMovie or a few seconds to compress a full-bodied zip file (which then increased the write speed scale in part). To assign a score in this area I find then a little 'in difficulty. From the viewpoint of the CPU Pro 13 "is slightly faster but we are sure you can assign an advantage when then every single operation, to start since, requires up to 8 times (the value is clearly approximate) of the time ' Air 11 "? I have no doubt to say that overall performance on the front of the Pro 13 "basis, as configured, is beaten hands down Air 13" base.
I say then: Pro 4 - Air 6 (but wait ... is not over)
Do you know where the above discussion decade? The MacBook Pro is much more expandable: add just € 77 and takes a 60GB OCZ Agility SATA3 that mounts in an instant. At that point, the bill draws on the opposite reactivity with SSD and the difference of the processor, though not so obvious, back to bite. It is also possible to realize different combinations. We have spoken of a disk of only 60GB in effect, but in the Pro can also be used as an adapter to enter the optibay the HDD of 320GB in place of the original SuperDrive. In this way we obtain the speed of the solid disc for the operating system and applications and the increased capacity of a traditional hard drive for archiving. Also, the RAM, which base is 4GB on both, on the Pro can be easily increased to 8GB. To want to do things right we should say that the added cost rises well and lose the initial assumption for which we have assigned a point to Pro for the greater economy.Furthermore, the comparison is based, only the basic models, however, the counter remains a valuable expandability, both now and in the future: if after some time you should decide to improve the performance of your Mac, is with the Aircan only change SSD (mSATA but those are expensive), while the Pro will have more flexibility.
u point for the Pro: Pro 5 - 6 Air
With the 2011 version of the MacBook Air has resumed the backlit keyboard, but still (and will) not have an Ethernet port, Superdrive and the infrared receiver. The absence of the reader / writer is a point against him, this is indisputable
equal footing Pro 6 - Air 6. As Apple moves fast towards a future where this will no longer be necessary (see installation and operating system software via the web) can still be useful today. It must be said that with less than 30 € you take an external drive efficiently (review) but this still requires to carry around another "element". On a personal level each of us will be evaluated differently this absence, there are those who do not tolerate it and who has already got used to (in extreme cases supported by the Remote Disk feature) but it is still a lack of perspective in a single complete computer , at least at present.
For this reason we say: Pro 7 - 6 Air
pull the money (or better scores ) won the pro of a single point.
i hope it can help you ti choose

T400s, X200 and X200s are mainly built for road warriors where they don't want to carry extra weight and yet still have a powerful enough laptop for their light photoshop work, document processing, HD movies, powerpoint and publisher, etc.
For outdoors you should look to the new 'Special series of X200t (t for tablet)' which has this new screen that is specifically designed for people whom use their laptop in the outdoor environment providing maximum brightness and minimal reflectivity.
    http://www.thinkpads.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/lenovo_thinkpad_x200_tablet_outdoor-viewable-scr...
For movies and streaming hd movies, any of these laptop would be sufficient, as T8xxx, T9xxx Penryn processors are have SSE 4 included that have special algorithm that increases processor efficiency for HD movie decoding. Also Intel X4500 MHD integrated graphics card are specifically designed for blu ray and hd movie decoding without using CPU resources.
If you do light photoshop work, then any of these laptops are fine. 9 cells in a T400s or X200 or X200s should get you upwards of 5 hours use on a single charge.
The T400s have built in displayport out, which is missing in the T400, while the X200 and X200s can use this port only through the ultrabase dock.
The one thing that T400 can be optioned with is the dual gpu if you get the ATI graphics card, which includes the X4500 and ATI 3470 which one use depends on whether you are after graphic processing power or battery life.

  • Suppose one lack records having in BDC uplaod, which one can i propose uploa

Suppose one lack records having in BDC uplaod, which one can i propose uploading these records?call transaction or session method which one is better? How?

    Hi Hassan,
The Session method is better and used for processing large amount of data and it will give error log itself if any comes. and the other thing is you can run session method in background but call transaction is not possible to run in background.
Session method can handle multiple transactions at a time, while in call transaction , only one at a time.
But call transaction is much faster than Session.
Database update is synchronous in Session, while it is either synchronous or asynchronous in Call Transaction.
    here is the exact differences..
    Call transaction:
Session is used to handle larger amount of data and error handling in implicit, while in call transaction, you have to explicitly handle error situation.
    1.Synchronous Processing
2.You can update the database both synchronously and asynchrounously.
3.Transfer of data for individual transaction
4.No batch input session is created.
5.Faster than other batch input techniques.
6.No automatic error log and restart capability is available here.
7.Not recommended for bulk data transfer
    Session.
    1.Asynchronous Processing
    2.Synchronous database updates
3.Transfer of data for multiple transaction
4.Batch input sesssion is created here.
5.Automatic error handling and efficient restart capability incase of error transaction.
6.SAP's standard approach for data transfer
7.Highly recommended for Bulk data transfer.
8.Execution is slower than CALL TRANSACTION.

    IMO best is to
    1) tune the query to minimize time and resource use;
    2) set the undo_retention to size the undo tablespace for the required 'consistent read' rebuild requirements;
    3) set the retention guarantee appropriately
    4) size the undo tablespace based on the required size, probably dictated by 2)
Why is this an 'either one or other' question? When driving a car and looking for best fuel efficiency, you tune up the car, drive properly AND use the right fuel. You don't just pick one and leave it at that.

  • Which query is efficient?

    Hi all,
I have 2 queries which produce same output on test data. But i am not confident which is a better one or efficient one.
How can I measure the efficiency of these programs?

    Query2:

    Which statement is efficient?
    1.  SELECT MSG_ID,IP_ADDRESS,DATETIME INTO V_MSG_ID,V_IP_ADDRESS,V_DATETIME
FROM (SELECT * FROM INCOMING_MSG_IDX ORDER BY LAST_CHECKTIME)
             WHERE STATUS = 4 AND MSG_TYPE >= LOW_MSG_TYPE AND MSG_TYPE <=
                UP_MSG_TYPE AND ROWNUM <=1;
    2.   SELECT MSG_ID,IP_ADDRESS,DATETIME INTO V_MSG_ID,V_IP_ADDRESS,V_DATETIME
             FROM INCOMING_MSG_IDX
               WHERE STATUS = 4 AND MSG_TYPE  BETWEEN  LOW_MSG_TYPE AND

                      ORDER BY LAST_CHECKTIME

Which statement is efficient? If more than one row satisfies your filter predicates in the WHERE clause then your question is irrelevant since the two statements are not equal.
The first one obeys the ORDER and returns the first entry ordered by LAST_CHECKTIME that passes the predicates.
The second one returns an arbitrary row that passes the predicates, because ROWNUM is applied before the ORDER BY, and therefore the two statements are not equal.

How are you supposed to get help from Apple if you don't know what your serial number is?  They say to input the serial number of the "product" that you are asking about.  Since my problem is how to deauthorize/authorize computers, and they are saying I have more than 5 (which I have never owned more than 5 computers in my life), I can't imagine what serial number they mean.  Does it mean your desktop computer?  If so, which one?  Do they mean your device?  LIke your iPhone, iPod or whatever?  Do they mean the software ON one of your computers and/or devices?  If so, which program, and on which computer/device?
We have three operational computers, one does not have iTunes on it.  Since Apple is saying I have more than 5 authorized computers, and I can't imagine what they are, I am afraid to deauthorize all my computers.  See what I mean?  I just wanted to ask the question about how I can find out WHICH computers Apple thinks I have authorized, so I can decide if it's safe to deauthorize them all or not.  I only know of 2 computers that have iTunes on them, so how can there be 5?  We also have 2 iPhones and 2 iPods in this family, but one of the iPhones has his own apple id.  He may have been using mine, since his computer died.  I read that those don't count as "computers" to the 5.  Do they, then?
Help!  I can't contact apple because I have no idea what they mean about serial number.  I doubt they would help me anyway.  In order to get the serial number off my desktop computer (that has iTunes on it already), I will have to move furniture, so I don't want to if that's not it.  Is there some way to find the serial number in the software, either on my desktop or my iPhone?

You could have more 5 computers authorized if you ever, for example, reformatted a hard drive or replaced a hard drive without deauthorizing the computer first. Apple's system would see that as a different computer, even though you don't. There's nothing to be afraid of in deauthorizing everything and the reauthorizing what you actually have. You won't lose any data. Mistimp is correct, they can't tell you which computers are authorized.

I think 6.2 is easier, just follow read me instruction, on redhat 7.0 you must run patch to downgrade glibc from 2.2 to 2.1

  • Adobe Cloud has 2 different Muse programs.... how do I know which one is the newer better version?

So I am new to Muse, and my Adobe Cloud has 2 different programs from Muse... how do I know which one is the newer better version?
One Must program (Muse CC 2014.2)  has a black background when working on it... it looks like other Adobe programs such as Photoshop.
The other one is light color (Muse CC) very similar to the black color Muse on functions.....
One of the difference I notice is that the light color Muse has a few widgets in the library, while the black background Muse seems to have an empty library
So... why are there 2 different Muse programs in my Adobe Cloud?

    Hi
The latest version of Muse is 2014.2, so you need to uninstall another version of Muse manually.
regarding the items in Library, you can add items in your library manually, as shown in this article
Adobe Muse Help | Organizing and reusing design elements using Library panel
Please let me know if you have any other query.
