Which operating system is best for computer control using LabVIEW

I am using LabVIEW 7.1 and want to write a program to control a system of pumps, heaters, and  compressors.  I am wondering if using Windows XP is a bad thing, given how many background processes computers tend to use these days.  I don't want my computer to slow down for intermittant checking for updates, or any other sort of routine maintenance computers are set up to do.  I have heard mixed things about windows reliability and computer control, most of which is people saying windows could crash and completely ruin my tests.  Does anyone have any advice on the best operating system to use for continuous computer control of my system?

If you plan on using a desktop PC for control type applications, then your best option in terms of performance will be with a Real-Time operating system. Windows is not deterministic for many reasons. Determinism involves the ability to respond to an event within a specified amount of time with an acceptable amount of error (jitter). First of all, Windows is not deterministic because it has to service mouse and keyboard events, as well as anti-virus software, automatic updates, etc.
You can, however, convert an existing desktop PC to a Real-Time target with a Real-Time OS and use it for your control type application with the deterministic behavior of PXI, Compact FieldPoint, and other Real-Time targets. Check out this link for more information.
On a side note to a previous reply, using the LabVIEW Real-Time module on Windows XP won't make your application deterministic. Your best bet, as others have noted, is to use the LabVIEW RT Module on an RT OS with good RT programming practices (avoiding memory allocations, etc.).

  • Which operating system is better for Logic, Apple or Windows?

My current computer(apple is starting to show signs of wear when operating Logic and I'm thinking of getting a new one to help speed things up. I've been looking into both operating systems and the cost of the Apple one is putting me off a bit, but I've been so satisfied with the one I've got. The cost of a windows system is cheaper, but the old one I had was unimpressive. Any opinions would be appreciated along with reasons. If you do suggest a windows computer which do you recommend 32 bit or 64?? Thanks

Logic does not run on Windows computers anymore, only on Apple Hardware.

  • Which Operating System works best with CS3?

Just want your thoughts. Since I am having some minor
compatibility issue with CS# and XP Home, I was told that the best
way to rectify this is to upgrade to XP Pro SP2. I am wondering if
it wouldn't be better to upgrade to Vista Home Premium SP1. What
    are your thoughts?

You could always upgrade to a Mac. Sorry just had to through
    that in there.
On the Windows side, as of right now, you will only be able
to get XP Pro until June 30th. Support is slated to end around 2010
    I believe.
Personally it depends on who you ask and what your computer
is capable of. If your computer is fairly new and can upgrade to a
maximum of 4 gigs (the limit set by a 32-bit OS) I would say go for
the Visa Home Premium 32-bit edition. If you are unsure of how much
you can upgrade your computers memory check out www.crucial.com and
use the memory finder tool. It will install an application and tell
you the current and maximum memory configuration allowed for your
    machine.
If your computer is older and cannot upgrade that far I would
say go get an XP Pro upgrade before MS stops selling it.

Mac OS X 10.7.5, which requires getting a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD from the online Apple Store and a download code for 10.7 by phoning them.

  • After completed as an MBA HR & System, Which module is the best for freshers ??

Hi,  I am Samrat Saha. I completed my post graduation as an MBA (HR&System). I did BCA in my graduation and did Higher secondary in commerce. I want to build my career in SAP. But I have some questions::
    1. If i go for SAP then which module is the best for me..??
    2. As a fresher is companies showing any interest to recruit..??
    3. I hard a Course from Victoria University, Melborn, That Is "Master of Business (Enterprise Resource planning System) with SAP".. Is this Master degree worthy to do??
Message was edited by: Sarah Kellman

    Hello Samrat,
It is not possible to provide guidance on what career path you should take.  This is a conversation you need to have with a Career Planner or perhaps one of your professors.  You should follow the path you are most interested in, be it a functional role or a technical role.  Ideally you may want to consider getting some work experience in both fields, and then determine which area you wish to pursue.
You state you have an MBA in HR & System....System what??  System development? Technology?  Programming?  Data Warehousing?  Even HR is a vast area within the SAP world.  We have Payroll, Recruiting, Self Services, Compensation, Time Management, Learning Management Systems, etc.  Most consultants select one or two areas to pursue.  There is no such thing as a single person who knows the complete SAP HR solution...it's just too big!
I will suggest that you consider taking an SAP HR course so that you can get an idea as to how large the application is.  There are lots of courses available in e-learning.  I would recommend either SAPHRE or HR050E to start.  Once you have completed one of these, you'll be in a better position to decide what you want to do, or at least decide what you don't want to do.
    Good Luck!

  • Which operating system has the least problems for IPad

Which operating system has the least problems for IPad? I have 3.0 and probably should upgrade. Thanks

You're using an original iPad? Definitely upgrade to the newest version of iOS. Many apps will require iOS 5.1.1 and it will run fine on your iPad.

  • HT201250 when restoring a time machine backup to a new computer, does it affect the new operating system on the new computer

when restoring a time machine backup to a new computer, does it affect the new operating system on the new computer?

That depends on how you do it.
By far the best, easiest, most reliable method is to use Setup Assistant when your shiny new Mac first starts up, to transfer your apps, users, data, etc.   That doesn't disturb either the OS or basic Apple apps that came with the new Mac.  See Using Setup Assistant on Mountain Lion or Lion.
There is a facility to restore an entire system from Time Machine backups, including the version of OSX on the backup, but that's for use when your internal HD has been erased or replaced only.  It's not a good idea to restore the full backup of one Mac to a different one.  Depending on the circumstances, the installer may not allow it.  Even if it does, the Mac may not start up, or may kernel panic, or not work properly.

  • What operating system is required for Logic Pro 9?

Just bought a Mac Pro with 10.7.5 Lion already installed. I want to know If I need to change the operating system to support Apple Logic Pro 9?
I have'nt bought Logic Pro 9 yet, but I bought Pro Tools 10 and would like to have both Logic and Pro Tools on the same computer. There both picky about
which operating system to use. Which operating system would support both?

I think sticking with Lion 10.7x is your best bet, you will find easier going with both Protools & Logic. Some report problems with Mountain Lion and Logic.
Check and make sure you don't need the 10.7.5 supplemental update, if you do, INSTALL it otherwise Logic won't recognize some AU plugins.

Someday - and no one knows when that day will come - maybe all applications will be able to take advantage of the Retina display. But for the present, not many do: including all Adobe applications. There was a demo of Photoshop at the Apple World Wide Developers Conference of Photoshop running at native Retina resolutions but no one at Adobe in marketing is saying when, if or how the upgrade may be coming. It could be a week, it could be a year, it could be 2-3 years. No one knows. And only Apple app's (for the main part) are really utilizing the native Retina display.
I've seen some demos of some applications (Apple's) that take advantage of the Retina display and they're awesome. But in actually working in the here-and-now I've heard quite a few gripes, particularly on the Photoshop forum, of menus looking pixelated and/or 'blurry' so I'm not quite ready to jump into the Retina display boat just now. Don't get me wrong - others have ad are very, very pleased with their selection. But until Retina displays are available on larger monitors, the maximum work area that you're going to be able to use is 15" - and that's simply not enough room for full-blown graphic design. Then there's the cost factor - for the $4,000+ you spend for a completely full-blown Retina kit, you can get a standard MacBook Pro, 16 GB of RAM, a fast SSD and even the Apple Thunderbolt Display for the same amount.
The standard MacBook Pro isn't better than the Retina display: it's just different. And I think (and this is only my opinion - other graphic designers should feel free to jump in here) that it's the best computer that you can get for your specific purposes. And, towards that goal, I have to recommend a very good external monitor (there's nothing more annoying than having to use InDesign in a single-page mode rather than side-by-side because your monitor isn't big enough).
Remember that this is only my opinion and that others might jump in with their own. But I was in the electronic pre-press business for more years than I care to admit and we always - always - worked with at least 19" monitors (and that's back when dinosaurs actually ruled the world).
I hope that others will jump in with their comments. I'm going to follow this thread and see!
    Good luck,
    Clinton

If that's what you're using and it actually works, albeit slowly, I'd suggest taking The hatter's advice and go with the 6 core Mac Pro with  24GB of RAM and the 5870 video card. The RAM could come from here: http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Mac-Pro-Memory#1333-memory

  • Which operating system: Linux or Windows Server 2003?

    Hi,
it doesn't matter which operating system we install an our server.
What are your experience with Linux and Windows?
Which System do you recommend regarding performance issues?
    best regards
    Felix

Linux has a higher per process memory limit. The fmscore process can use up to 2 GB on Windows and up to 3 GB on Linux.
The performance increases in Flash Media Server 3.5 are roughly equivalent on Linux and Windows.

  • I need help to decide which macbook pro is best for photo editing, editing movies and doing all the rest too like excel, word etc. 13"

I need help to decide which macbook pro is best for photo editing, editing movies and doing all the rest too like  microsoft office products ...excel, word etc.  I am new to the apple world and have liked the idea of the MAC Book Pro 13" but really dont know if this is good enough or if the computer will soon crash?
    13-inch: 2.6GHz
    with Retina display
    Specifications
    2.6GHz dual-core Intel Core i5
    Turbo Boost up to 3.1GHz
    8GB 1600MHz memory
    512GB PCIe-based flash storage1
    Intel Iris Graphics
    Built-in battery (9 hours)2

That's a fine machine and, with 8GB of RAM and 512GB flash storage should serve you well for light video/photo editing as well as for 'normal' usage. And it should last you for years to come.
Good luck in making your decision!!

When I downloaded the Mavericks Operating system to my MAC computer, the mac stopped recognizing my T4i camera.  How do I fix this.

Apple has an article stating that your camera's digital RAW format is supported. I don't know if that implies the camera too.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5955
The Canon website says the drivers are either already installed or you don't need them for Mavericks.
They do have some updates for the Canon software.
Some more details of, "stopped recognizing my T4i camera," might be helpful.
If you are looking to transfer pictures/movies, can you just plug the card into the Mac or into a card reader?

If you are trying to decide on a platform, I would recommend that you look at Swingbench and run your own benchmarks on various platforms using vendor "try and buy" options. Sun is great for allowing a 90 day "try and buy" where you could try a wide range of platforms and I am guessing other vendors would do the same. Using Swingbench I recently found that an older Sun X6220 (blade server) was for 50 Swingbench users faster than a T6340, T2000, M5000 and older V890. Single threaded SQL was especially slow on the SPARC/T while the M5000 was comparable to the X6220 (again for 50 users). This is significant because the M5000 is much more expensive than the X6220 (a blade server).
For a small number of users, say 50 users and under, I like Solaris/x86 unless there will be lots of IO which is where SPARC and the M series scales up very well. 50+ users hammering on a DB, Solaris/SPARC is my first choice. If you are just getting started and are not in love with any platform, check out Oracle Unbreakable Linux.
