Which pci express Fire Wire card uses TI chipset?

Hi all
could anyone tell me which PCI express Fire Wire 400 card uses the Texas Instruments chip set? Have been looking all over but could not find one so far.
All help welcome on this one!

I use an Aaxeon, but there are many others, including SiiG, Nitro etc.
http://www.firewire-1394.com/ is a good place to search for firewire-related stuff.

  • PCI express 800 firewire card not working. Why?

    Hi,
I want to run a DV device for capturing video and a Lacie hard drive for storage so I bought a firewire 800 PCI express card. It does not recogize my drive or my camera. Does anyone know the score on this? If I run two drives on one bus, it's so bloody slow I can't work. So I was hoping that a 2nd bus would really help but I'm not getting anywhere with this PCI Express card. I have the Mac Book Pro 17" laptop.
    Thanks!

    Hello from Virginia,
What are your MBPro specs and are they compatible with the card you purchased.
I capture through the onboard FW800 port and use an Expresscard/34 card which gives me two eSata connections to my external HDs...works great.
Give us more details about the laptop and the card...make, model, compatibility...etc.

  • PCI Express fibre channel card: chipset/model

    Hi all,
I'm attempting to repurpose a first-generation Xserve RAID (with HSSDC2 ports) on an Intel-based Sun machine. My problem is that I need to find a Fibre Channel HBA which has SFP ports.
The first-gen Apple PCI Express card seems to fit the bill:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MA900G/A?mco=MTIxODk3Mw
According to several reports online, all Apple FC HBAs are re-branded LSI cards.
My question is, what chipset does this card use? And what is the equivalent LSI model number?
If someone who has this card installed could hit Apple System Profiler and paste the output for the FC card here that would be great

Yes, it is an LSI card.
Check out AlienRAID. It's a web site dedicated to running the XServe RAID in non-Apple environments. I used their site to get an XServe RAID running on a Sun server a few years ago, although I don't remember the details now.

  • Fire wire ports - uses of & dangers advice

    Hi
i recently daisy chained two lacie external hhds and noticed that the second was playing up -
I checked various threads here & the general feeling was dont daisy chain
the external hds just plug them straight in to the mac.
This proved right because the brand new lacie just died three months after i bought it & i trace the erratic behaviours back to when i daisy chained.
So i'm reduced to swapping fire wire cables into ports, depending on which external drive i want to power up - this is because i only have a limited amount of ports and people generally felt i should do it this way and not use a fire wire hub.....
So im now concerned about if this constant plugging in & out of firewire cables is a potential danger to my mac...........
Can anyone shed any opinion or warning that may be of use to my situation ?
    improvements, dangers etc......
    thanks
    d

    1. my issue with firewire hubs is that i want to
transfer data between external hds - i was advised
not to use a firewire hub to do this.
The hub shouldn't cause a problem.
    The general
advice is that the safest connections are direct into
    the computor.
A properly designed device should have no problems with a properly designed hub, but not everything is properly designed. Manufactures like to blame hubs when their products don't work.
However you've got me thinking....I've got three
    firewire ports,
Are you sure? eMacs have two FireWire, and three USB ports.
so maybe if i use two for two
external hd's and the third with a firewire hub for
    my printer & scanner
You have a FireWire printer and scanner? FireWire scanners are rare, and I haven't seen FireWire printers. USB is more common for printers and scanners.
    2. when you say go in backwards, you mean upside down.
A FireWire plug is rectangular, with a pointed end, so it will only fit one way. If the socket is worn, it can be forced in the other way, and cause daage.

  • Possible to install fire wire card on Envy j157cl laptop

I have a HP Envy 17 j157cl laptop that I plan to use as adedicated video editing platform. The only problem is that it doesnot have an I.link (hot wire) connector, only usb connectors. I have found a cable with USB terminal at one end and fire wire at the other. will this work? On the other hand, is there a fire wire board (card) than can be installed in the Envy 17?. The clips that I need to process now are in tape and can only be transferd to the computer via a vidio8 SOny vIdeocamera model DCR-TRV 520.

No laptops now just have no internal slots for expansion. There used to be a product called a Dazzle Video studio. I looked around for it but it seems to be out of production. It connected via usb but had S-Video component video, and firewire video input. It is a fairly big thing that looks a bit like a docking station. Have you tried the usb to firewire cable? Some people say those work other say they do not. I never tried one. I actually keep an old laptop with firewire around just for video capture from my older DV camera. Does your video camera also have an RCA or S-video output port? If so you can use this:

  • G5 Dual Core not recognizing PCI Express to USB card

I can not get my G5 (late 2005) to recognize a new PCI Express-to-USB 2.0 5-port card. This is an NEC -chip set card, model SD-PEX-NEC5U.
I have another USB card in Slot-4 and, of course, the graphic card (GeForce 6600) in Slot-1.
I've tried this new card in both Slot-2 and Slot-3 with no joy. This is the second NEC card I have tried, thinking the first one was defective.
Does anyone know what the problem is?
    Thanks!
    Steve

    Hi drmemory-
Unfortunately it isn't as simple as being compliant with a couple of mutual standards. No matter what platform you are using you will most likely need drivers. Were there any mac drivers on the disk? That is usually a clue about compatibility.
Considering that the System Profiler doesn't see it, perhaps and SMU reset is in order: How to reset the SMU on a Power Mac G5 (Late 2004) or Power Mac G5 (Late 2005)

  • Employee at the Genuis Bar told me to get pci-express firewire 800 card

told me any card would work in my new.......well it WAS new till they announced upgrade, 2x3ghz quadcore xeon.
I want to add another firewire 800 bus since I have the AJAHD hooked to the existing bus.
So I went to Fry's and got the "PCI-express firewire 800/1394b controller card 3 ports".
put it into one of the empty slots, rebooted, and got nothing, just some dull chimes, that don't stop.
it fit within my macpro, but it was a lot shorter than the SATA card, that had no problems.
So I guess I need to know exactly what type of firewire 800 card to I have to get.

I installed 1 of these in an 8 core OS 10.4.11 FCp 6.0.2 QT 7.3.1 dedicated to io HD
don't recall a driver disk for mac, however I rarely if ever use the supplied driver disk for anything anymore 'cause it's almost always out of date. go to mfg site and get drivers etc.
this is the first link I saw googling siig
    http://www.smalldog.com/product/42566/atfgc
by the way it worked great. needs a 1 lane slot. you'll need to check expansion slot utility. typically goes in slot above gfx card or slot4 (top) slot

  • My acer aspire x1935 does not recognize my pcie express hdmi capture card

my acer aspire x1935 dose not recognize my pci express hdmi hd capture card.  it works fine on a win XP sp3 machinewith a gigabite motherboard and a amd processor.  I updated the bios and it still dosent recognize it as a multimedia card in the device driver.  I have Windows 7 homeedition 64 bit with a intell I3 processor.

Regarding my x1935, I have tried a safe mode boot, I also tried reinstalling acers window 7 backup downloaded and reinstalled acers motherboard drivers and flashed the bios to the latest version and still the HDMI hd dvr capture card is not detected by windowws 7. Can some one help...
I have been working on this problem for the last two weeks and its very frustrating.

  • Which PCIe slot for gphx card?

    Hey all:
I have had a problem with my mac pro 2006 rebooting spontaneously. I thought it must be the graphics card and finally pulled the graphics card out and left the mac pro on for a while to see if it would reboot. It didn't. It was solid. No graphics card = no problems, so I assumed it was the graphics card.
So, I decided to swap out my x1900 with a 4870. It's rebooting. I guess this has to do with power to the logic board or something. I have no idea, but I'm super frustrated since this thing isn't under warranty.
I decided to put the graphics card (the new 4870) in the 2nd to bottom PCI slot, rather than the bottom slot. I got a message on startup from the PCI Expansion Slot Utility: http://twitpic.com/2k2jeh
So, things seem to be stable (but I am not counting on it). Is my 4870 not running at full speed in the second slot? I'm not an expert in how the PCI slots are set up, and I'm trying to understand.
    I decided to swap

    I found this : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2838
Slot two is 1x + 16x rather than "slot - one" which is just x16... so since slot two has that extra x1 I guess the 4870 cannot perform to its fullest, but pretty close?
I have a suspicion that something in the PCIe slot 1 chain may be broken?... like the power or something? I'm going to lower my fan speed down from 1800 RPM and see if it blows up. It probably will.
Anyone think I just need a new Power Supply, or maybe a new logic board?... how much do those things run? And if I call in on an unsupported system what sort of pricing is it for replacement parts like this? Bad?

  • Trying to use 3 PCI express cards on P6N Diamond

On the diamond I have 4 PCI express slots.  I use a dual monitor setup and currently have 2 nvidia 6800XT video cards that I use for them.  It works fine if these are the only two cards installed, but I wanted to use the cards in SLI mode for my main monitor and use a spare nvidia 6600LT card for my second monitor.  I read that the chipset supports PCIx16x16x8.
I leave the 6800XTs in the white slots and i try putting the 6600LT in either yellow slot.  When I boot up, I get no video until i remove the 3rd card.  Is there a bios setting I am overlooking or something?  I cannot find any documentation on the 3rd and 4th PCI express slot and have not seen any jumpers either.
I also flashed the bios to 1.10

The physics setup should work through drivers only. It is intended to plug in a bunch of cards and the drivers do the rest...
However, neither nVidia nor ATI support the AGEIA PhysX engine, so it all doesn't apply to games that use that engine (GRAW I & II, etc.). You will need an AGEIA PPU for those games. Both nVidia and ATI have agreements with Havok to use their Havok FX physics engine in the future, but to this date there are no developments there.
So, your hardware can do it, but the software can't...for the time being.

    Hi,
The NVIDIA should work with the PCI-E 1.1 bus that your PC has in it.  You might want to search this forum for NVIDIA 650 compatibility issues.

  • Span to 2 monitors w/ExpressCard PCI-Express Video Card? Possible?Probable?

Hey guys. I had screen-real-estate envy a few months ago and talked myself into thinking I could live without a laptop and just drag my new 20" iMac around once every week or two when I do Keynote Teaching. The sucker's 25lbs and has sharp edges and a lot of cables, it's a huge hassle to set up and haul around.. it's no laptotp replacement, although I do adore the screen. This has brought me to my current plan to sell the iMac eventually and buy a MBP, which I'll want to span to a bigger LCD. But my real dream of the last 10 or so years is to have 3 monitors going at the same time. When I saw that the ExpressCard slot can interface with both USB2.0 AND the PCI-Express bus I started using my imagination on how I could have 3 monitors going without having to spring for a PowerMac.
So the question is, any discussion about an ExpressCard video card? Any in production? Anything theoretically wrong with this concept? Probability of it happening, time frame? Prognosticate away!

Yo! Don't post the same question twice, OK?
I posted a reply to the earlier occurrence of your
    post. Check it out.
    RRS
Yeah sorry if it's at odds with your forum sensibilities, but I felt that this question fit well in both the Display AND the Expansion forums - and since neither has been able to give me an answer (although the alternative you suggested isn't wholly a bad option) as to whether or not this is or will be possible, I'll keep the question alive in 2 places until it gets sorted out. If this is against forum policy or something let me know, otherwise...

  • Problems using FW-7344 with Fire Wire Video Cameras

Is it a bad idea to use the FW-7344 with other devices on the same fire wire bus?
We are trying to use an FW-7344 with a fire wire video camera but we tend to get packet errors that force a reset of the controller. We suspect that the problem is related with the camera and controller being on the same fire wire bus.
We instantly see problems when we connect two FW7344s and one video camera on the same fire wire card.

The NIMax program reads Packet Error. I can't recall the first error that our program reads, but I think it typically says something about not being able to communicate return values from the controller to the host computer.
This makes me think that the NI driver on the host does not retry after failing to get return data from the controller. This assumption may be valid with the PCI version, but probably is not with the FireWire version.
It only takes one camera for this problem to happen, but the problem is intermittent.
