Which Ram goes where?

We recently upgraded the ram on my 2.5GHZ Quad from 2.5GB to 6.5GB. I was talking to somebody who told me I should ditch the two 256 sticks that came with the mac and just run the 6 1GB sticks. He said this is better for the computer. Is there any truth to this? Right now the 256 sticks are in slot 1, and the 1GB sticks are in slots 2-4.

Unless he has some specific evidence after troubleshooting your machine then I would tend, as you have, to be leery of such a generalization.
It is always possible that they could hamper the performance, but unless you have specific reason to believe that they do then why bother with something that works?
FWIW I have left the original 2X256 RAM in both of the G5's here and it doesn't bother me any (:>)

I am a little unsure how to configure "what goes where" on my main rig.
I have these discs:
Corsair 256 GB Pro (holds atm system, program files and pagefile)
Single 1.5 TB WD black (all kinds of stuff other than video)
Raid 0 on LSI 4 chnl. ctr. - 2 x Caviar 600 GB (holds now project files and maedia for PPRO)
Raid 0 on LSI 4 chnl. ctr. - 2 x Caviar 1 TB (holds render now)
SSD 240 GB for mediacache and preview for both AE and PPRO CS6
Should I add another single disc for project files alone and/or move the pagefile?

Jim, I completely agree considering your own system, but not on Ulf's system, which is way faster than yours.

If you want to add another two disks, I suggest:
C: 256 GB OS & programs & pagefile, SATA 6G
D: 240 GB Windows temp & media cache & AE cache, SATA 6 G
E: 2 x 600 WD in raid0 on the Marvell controller, previews. SATA 6G
F: 4 x 1 TB in raid5 on the LSI for media and projects
G: 1.5 TB exports and backup.
FYI, yesterday Bill gave me some experimental figures on the new test we are working on. Exporting a two hour timeline on an i7-2600K with a single OCZ Vertex4 SSD was around 6 times slower compared to a system with a heavy raid array. 84 seconds versus 14 seconds. Jim's suggestion to break out the raids you currently have will only slow down your system. In Jim's case he will not notice it, because his system is so much slower than yours, but you definitely will notice it.
The complicating factor in your case is the variety of disks you have and only a 4 port controller. The E: drive is way too big for previews only, but you don't have many choices for alternative uses and despite that they are older drives, in a raid0 they do give you nice performance. Going from 2 x 1 TB raid0 to 4 x 1 TB raid5 on that controller will give you added performance plus security against disk failure. Don't expect miracles in performance boost from 2x R0 to 4x R5, it will probably be only 25-35% or around that figure.

Which one goes in the front and which one goes in the back? (4.1)

Long long time ago, (well around 999) I purchased this set of speakers from Creative. I believe it was something like Cambridge something. It was the first introduction of Surround Sound Speakers and it was a 4.1. (2 front speakers, 2 rear speakers and subwofer).
When I moved to USA, I brought them with me (and I still use them), but I lost the box and the manuals. I hook it up with the X-fi and works beautiful.
My question is:
I remember reading that two speakers had some difference (something connected with the distance I think) with the other two. Something like 3 meters and 5 meters.
Is that connected with which one goes in the front, and which one goes in the back?
Right now; the speakers in the front are really strong, but the ones in the back, are very soft. Is that right? Or should I swap them?

There are dozens of 1TB drives that will 'fit' - just make sure that they're 2.5" drives, 9.5mm 'thick'.
I don't like Western Digital but there are plenty of other brands out there.
I would recommend shopping at Crucial or OWC for both your new drive and RAM.

AIR give you classes to detect an on-line or off-line status, it's in
this way for the sake of flexibility for instance what happens if you
only what to sync data only on Saturdays at 2 am? If it were done

In Mac Guru's "Guide to Macintosh Performance Acceleration" it states " Separating your "User" data from the Operating System and Applications is the simplest and most cost effective way to enjoy a significant performance boost at
minimal cost"...
Now how exactly do I do that?
I have a 40 GB HD with Panther on it and a 55 GB drive I want to use for the "data" drive. What goes where?

Welcome to Apple discussions.
I disagree with the premise in that article - "significant" is relative and depends on where you are. The only method I am aware of to "separate" would be to create partitions. OS X uses sophisticated algorithms to manage memory - both real and virtual. There are very few good reasons to partition an internal HD - and several that suggest you should not do that - absent a "good" reason.

I had to dispute several unauthorized charges to itunes. My apple id was disabled after that. I followed jarnoldus's (older post) advice and it worked. Im duplicating his entry here with a few modifications. I hope this works for you.
1. Go to https://getsupport.apple.com
2. Choose your product (mine was ipad)
3. Click the "iTunes, App Store or iBooks" icon
4. Click "Apple ID account security"
5. Type in "apple id has been disabled"
6. Choose your country (mine was US)
7. Choose the "talk to apple support now" option
8. Provide the info they request (name, email, phone number)
9. They will call you right away.
Explain your apple id has been disabled. The rep will connect you to an iTunes rep. He/she will look up your account. You will be required to answer your 3 security questions. You MUST get a minimum of 2 correct. If you succeed they will enable your id. Good luck!

I need an additional board to add ram. Where can I find parts for my g5 desktop pro?

It's my first Mac...I got it used. It works great no problems at all. I checked the ram and noticed I have 4 slots occupied with 1 gig each of ram. In the system preferences it shows 4 empty slots. There is no other board to install additional ram on my machine. I would like to have a minimum of 8gb ram preferably 12 to 16ram. So I'd like to know where I could find component parts like this.
For the short term I guess I can look into 2GB sticks for the one board that is in the computer now to make 8gb total. I went to a place called tekserv here in ny...they won't sell it to me...they want me to bring in the computer. This board slides in just as easy as the sata drives. They have a flat rate for ram upgrade of $299.00
I'm expecting to pay something for the board...but $300 to have them slide a board in for me...I have a problem with that...I could use that $$$ for more ram!

I can't tell which mac or what type of RAM and therefore priice. Hope it isnt a Early 2008 but even then 8x2GB is $140. Or 8x4GB but FBDIMMs cost more.
Later models can take 8 and 16GB DIMMs for 32-96GB RAM

Both Crucial and Kingston are long standing quality makers of RAM (not merely resllers, but actual manufacuters of their own RAM)
I would suggest going to

And look up your specfic Apple machine model to get the SODIMM module parts numbers directly from them. That way you will know specifically which modules to shop for at other web stores. Both companies offer lifetime warranties, so just be sure the module part # you are ordering is one the company itself lists as meeting or exceeding Apple's specs for RAM and you should be fine.
