Which to upgrade first to ML client or server

Wtih Mountain lion comming out by the end of July.  What is the best order to upgrade the machines.  Do I upgrade the clients first then the server or the otherway around?  What are the pitfall of either way.
David Urban

Put the breaks on Usain Bolt!  Just because Apple is releasing a new product does not mean you jump on it.  Best advice is to run it in isolation for a few weeks to understand the differences, changes, and impact to workflow.  Test on a client first and make sure all your apps work, your mail works, and so on.  Research third party developer compatibility announcements.  Trust but verify.  Review everything you are using server for and make sure it still exists in Mountain.  Same for the client.  Check hardware compatibility list.  Research, learn, and test.
Then before you do anything, BACKUP your working systems to ensure you have a regression path in the event of a problem.

  • Which to upgrade first

I've been on FCP 6.0.3, 10.4.11 and QT 7.4.5 for a while and considering trying Leopard with FCP. My leopard partition is still 10.5.2, FCP 6 and QT 7.4.5. Which should I upgrade first?

I would say.., if you have have a production system that is working, don't change a darn thing.
If there is some software that you really need to install... and need to update because of it, post the details. There will be someone here who has already braved the depths and so long as they have not drowned.........

  • Which do I upgrade first: Quicken 2015 or OS X Yosemite

I have OS X 10.6.8 and Quicken 2007.  Which do I upgrade first in order to maintain and transfer all my data?

Quicken. And, I would transfer your data before upgrading the computer.

  • How do I get Mac App Store on my computer? I have 10.5.8 OS. If I need to upgrade first how do I do that? It says that my software is updated.

How do I get Mac App Store on my iMac? I have 10.5.8 OS. If I need to upgrade first how do I do that? It says that my software is updated.

And once you get Mac OS X 10.6 installed, update it to at least 10.6.6 which was the first version to include the Mac App Store (the latest version is 10.6.8). The DVD you get will almost certainly be only 10.6.3. You can update from 10.6.3 to 10.6.8 via Software Update, or you can download a standalone Combo updater (Support tab above, then Downloads).

  • Outlook 2013 Rules "Which Rules Do You Want To Keep - Client or Server"

Ever since I upgraded to Outlook 2013, whenever I run my morning Rules on our companies public folder, I get a pop up box asking "Which Rules Do You Want To Keep" and the choices - "Client or Server" So naturally I run the rules that are stored on the
server and all my rules are run properly. But its a bit of a hassle that it makes me click that every single time I run the rules (sometimes several times per day) even though they are the exact same rules I ran on Outlook 2010 and I was never asked. Im wondering
if there's a way to set this choice permanently so I dont have to make the choice daily. Even when I make a new rule it asks me this question, even though the new rule isnt stored in either location at that point.

This behavior occurs because a copy of the rules that  you created for this Exchange mailbox is stored in your local .pst  file. When you start Outlook and access your Exchange mailbox from computer B, Outlook expects rules. However, the rules
are  not  present because they are stored locally in the .pst file on computer A.
To resolve it, we may Deliver new e-mail to a new location. (In Outlook 2013, there is no "change folder" option in Account setting. If you are using PST as the data file, please create/set another PST as default to have a try)
These issue may also caused by the following conditions:
    1. Two Outlook Computers Are Connected to the same Microsoft Exchange Server Mailbox
    2. Different Versions of Outlook Connected to the Same Exchange Server Mailbox

  • New MacPro - which to install first RAM or HDD?

Receiving new 8-core 2.66 Mac Pro this week. Question for the Tried and True members of this forum:
I presume that it is best to power-on and "initialize" the machine in basic factory configuration (software/firmware) updates before adding in more RAM and additional HDDs.
Is there a consensus in the Forum as to which is "better?" Install additional RAM and then new HDD? Vice vera? or doesn't matter?
Is there a consensus among members as to how long a machine should be left on continually to "burn in" and mitigate Infant Mortality?
    Thanks in Advance

I received my 8-core 2.93 Mac Pro last July, and I upgraded last November.
In fact I carried out all 3 upgrades at the same time; i.e. RAM, HDD, and graphics card.
Since then I have upgraded to a SSD system boot drive and a 4 x VR300 RAID 0.
So in my opinion it makes absolutely no difference at all what you upgrade first, other than to overall performance.
Presumably, you ordered your Mac Pro with the Radeon HD4870. If not, upgrading from the GT120 would show the most improvement in performance, followed by installing 16GB RAM. Apart from increased capacity you will not benefit so much from a new HDD, unless you are planning to buy more than one to set up a RAID. The most noticeable performance boost of all would be from using a SSD, especially the new OWC Mercury Extreme, as a system boot drive for your OS and applications.
For all my upgrades I disconnected the power cord, and removed all the connections from the FW800, USB2.0, ethernet, and audio ports, and discharged the static before removing the side panel. I also used a Lindy anti-static kit whilst carrying out the upgrades.
Everything was then reconnected, and, hey presto, no problems at all!

  • SSD or RAM upgrade first ?

    Hi,
I have a 2011 15in' Macbook Pro,  2GHz Intel Core 17, 500GB HDD, 8GB RAM and running on the latest OSX Maverick. I was thinking of upgrading my hdd to ssd and a 8gb to 16gb ram. I use my macbook pro for designing, video editing and web developing, so the software i use are primarly photoshop, illustrator, dreaweaver and premiere and recently it has started to run rather slow.
I am a student and have to save in order to purchase either and ssd or ram. SSD are more expensive. So which should i upgrade first and which will benefit more to my production while i wait and save to purchase either of the other component?
My choice of ssd is the SAMSUNG 840 EVO 250GB...i have a external 1tb hardisk where i store most of my files and archive it there so i do not need a huge capacity ssd. 250gb is suffecient for me.
My choice of RAM is Kingston, cheaper at my local store compared to CRUCIAL or OWC when shipped from US. I am from Singapore btw.
Appreciate all your feedback and comments...
    Cheers.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Looking at your apps, the RAM is much more important. It will allow you to run your applications as fast as your MacBook Pro can, and the SSD will only improve the read and write speed.
Then, if you want, you can install a SSD

  • 10.6 server, first 10.7 client - having trouble

Just installed my first 10.7 client this week, and can't seem to get things to work. On the server, I have managed preferenced setup for all the macs in the office (energy saver, login options, open directory, time machine, PHD syncing, etc.).
If I am not pushing managed prefs to the 10.7 machine, I can login as me (to the local admin account on the mac). No other network users are shown as viable login options.
If I DO push managed prefs to the 10.7 machine, I can see all the network users as viable login options, however I can't login to my local admin account on the 10.7 machine anymore. After I enter my password, i get a little spinning pinwheel next to my password, and it never logs in, just sits like that forever. At that point, it seems that only a reboot can un-stick it. The only way I've been able to get past this is to turn off managed prefs for this machine at the server.
It seems my next option is a lot of trial and error to determine which of the managed prefs is causing the failure to login. I was hoping that someone here had a suggestion, just so as to cut down on my trial and error time.
    Thanks!

I did find this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/message/16801064#16801064 that seems to say it isn't possible, but wondering if anyone has done this.

I have a sony laptop with window 7 64 bit initially which I upgraded to windows 8 64 bit. But due to formatting later, I had to reinstall the windows and this time I installed windows 8 32 bit. Now I have tried installing iTunes for 64 bit windows 8 as well as 32 bit Windows 8 but none of them is getting installed. The message I get is, "this programme is not compatible for your pc" (or words to that affect since I dont remember the exact words but this is the meaning).
Can some body send me the link to the right file please. I need iTunes to transfer files from my iPod and iPhone to my laptop.

  • Upgrade Error Failed to upgrade SAP Business One Client

    Hi All,
I have upgraded one of our customers from SAP 9.0 to 9.1 PL5.
Everything upgraded successfully through the wizard. When launching the client, the 32 bit client upgraded with no errors. When attempting to open the 64 bit client  I get the error above. I have also uninstalled the 64 bit client and re installed from the B1-Shr folder with the same result.
This is a 64 bit Windows Server 2008 R2 machine. Log files are not showing any errors.
Has anyone never ran into this?
    Sincerely,
    Chris Sorensen

    Chris
I just had this happen with PL06.
It gave me this message for both 32 bit and 64 bit client
When I checked - even though it said it had not upgraded the 32 bit client it already had.
With the 64 bit client I had to 100% reboot and go directly to the client upgrade and then it worked.
You might try that.  Seems like something was interfering with it.

Niel, thank you! Can't get iPhotos, but found my photos after clicking "photos" in the new app, after your suggestion. (option, click). Whew! I panicked, and appreciate your help. I'm going to miss my old iPhoto!

  • HT1199 I bought my Macbook pro in 2010 and had Snow Leopard which I upgraded when Mountain Lion was available.  Now it keeps saying Mavarick is available.  Is that another update?  Or is that something else?

I bought my Macbook pro in 2010 and had Snow Leopard which I upgraded when Mountain Lion was available.  Now it keeps saying Mavarick is available.  Is that another update?  Or is that something else?

Mavericks is an upgraded System in the same way that Mountain Lion was, the difference being that it's free. You can download the installer from the Mac App Store (the system requirements are the same as for Mountain Lion so you should be OK there). I've not got it: reports suggest that it is an improvement over Mountain Lion but it has some quirks that may or may not be an issue for you. It has its own forum, so you could look there for information.

    Hi claire.winteringham,
If you have a 64 bit machine then there shouldn't be any problem while installing any 32-bit software.
Try to download it with the below mentioned link :
