Which do I upgrade first: Quicken 2015 or OS X Yosemite

I have OS X 10.6.8 and Quicken 2007.  Which do I upgrade first in order to maintain and transfer all my data?

Quicken. And, I would transfer your data before upgrading the computer.

  • Which to upgrade first

I've been on FCP 6.0.3, 10.4.11 and QT 7.4.5 for a while and considering trying Leopard with FCP. My leopard partition is still 10.5.2, FCP 6 and QT 7.4.5. Which should I upgrade first?

I would say.., if you have have a production system that is working, don't change a darn thing.
If there is some software that you really need to install... and need to update because of it, post the details. There will be someone here who has already braved the depths and so long as they have not drowned.........

  • SSD or RAM upgrade first ?

    Hi,
I have a 2011 15in' Macbook Pro,  2GHz Intel Core 17, 500GB HDD, 8GB RAM and running on the latest OSX Maverick. I was thinking of upgrading my hdd to ssd and a 8gb to 16gb ram. I use my macbook pro for designing, video editing and web developing, so the software i use are primarly photoshop, illustrator, dreaweaver and premiere and recently it has started to run rather slow.
I am a student and have to save in order to purchase either and ssd or ram. SSD are more expensive. So which should i upgrade first and which will benefit more to my production while i wait and save to purchase either of the other component?
My choice of ssd is the SAMSUNG 840 EVO 250GB...i have a external 1tb hardisk where i store most of my files and archive it there so i do not need a huge capacity ssd. 250gb is suffecient for me.
My choice of RAM is Kingston, cheaper at my local store compared to CRUCIAL or OWC when shipped from US. I am from Singapore btw.
Appreciate all your feedback and comments...
    Cheers.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Looking at your apps, the RAM is much more important. It will allow you to run your applications as fast as your MacBook Pro can, and the SSD will only improve the read and write speed.
Then, if you want, you can install a SSD

  • Refund Quicken 2015 for Mac

I just purchased Quicken 2015 from the Mac App Store.  After it downloaded and installed, I opened it and started to look at the new features.  Suddenly, I wanted to know how I could run the new version and my old version (Quicken 2007) at the same time so I could carefully migrate.
So I went to the Intuit web site to try to find out how to contact someone.  It was there that I found out that the single most important feature I need in Quicken, paying bills from within Quicken, has been eliminated and I must "vote" to have it re-included!!!  The product is useless to me and I want to find out how I can get it off my Mac and get my money back!!!

iBank includes online Bill Pay. It is described beginning on page 179 of the user manual.
No bill pay software, including Quicken, can guarantee everything you ask for in the last paragraph. Much of that is dependent on your particular bank. For example every bank does not process payments to every business electronically so they frequently use paper checks and the mail. I use Wells Fargo bill pay and for a large percentage of my payments Wells Fargo prints a paper check and mails the check. Wells Fargo bill pay allows me to specify a "Send On" date. The "Deliver By" date is estimated and in most cases is 2 days later for payments they process electronically and 5 days later for payments they send by mail. Money is deducted from my account on the "Send on" date. Again, that is Wells Fargo and your bank may handle bill pay differently.
Following is an excerpt of iBanks manual from the Bill Pay section:
"Next, enter a due date for the payment. By default, iBank shows the earliest date for which your bank can guarantee delivery. As long as you enter a date that is no earlier than the default, iBank will ensure that the payment is received on or before the date you enter. Enter a category for the transaction or click the “Add Split” button to split the transaction and assign multiple categories. Enter the payment amount and any notes you want to be submitted with the payment, then click “Continue” to proceed.
"Each bank handles online payments differently. Some banks wait until the payment’s due date before withdrawing funds, some process the payment on the same date you submit it, and some choose a date in between. Contact your bank to learn more about how it handles online bill payments."
I also just discovered that Quicken has an Online bill pay service for $9.95 a month. Not sure how that relates to bill pay features in their software and seems expensive for something most banks offer directly for no charge, although I guess it would save time if you didn't have software such as iBank and had multiple checking accounts.

  • How do I get Mac App Store on my computer? I have 10.5.8 OS. If I need to upgrade first how do I do that? It says that my software is updated.

How do I get Mac App Store on my iMac? I have 10.5.8 OS. If I need to upgrade first how do I do that? It says that my software is updated.

And once you get Mac OS X 10.6 installed, update it to at least 10.6.6 which was the first version to include the Mac App Store (the latest version is 10.6.8). The DVD you get will almost certainly be only 10.6.3. You can update from 10.6.3 to 10.6.8 via Software Update, or you can download a standalone Combo updater (Support tab above, then Downloads).

Which O/S upgrade is recommended for a MAC Book Pro17 with Intel Core Duo 2.16 GHz
    I am using os x 10.4.11.
Do I need to upgrade to 10.5.xx? Will this platform suport 10.6.xx? If 10.6 will work do I need to install 10.5 first?
    Thanks...

Hi. Your computer can be upgraded to either Leopard 10.5 or Snow Leopard 10.6. 10.6 will be much easier to find and will be less expensive. Leopard is not required prior to upgrading to Snow Leopard.

I plan on keeping the iMac and PB until they cease to work ( have replaced HD's on both already).  I mostly use the PB-- lots of writing, surfing, email, etc.
    Your thoughts?

The minimum Mac specs (from http://www.apple.com/ipad/specs/) are :
Mac computer with USB 2.0 port
Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later
iTunes 10.2 or later recommended (free download from www.itunes.com/download)
    iTunes Store account
    Internet access
So you only need Leopard, not Snow Leopard

To free up hard drive space the best bet is to move data files that you don't need access to all the time. Likely candidates are music, video, and photos. Things like word processing and spreadsheet files can also be moved but they tend not to be very large and so don't free up much space. The problem with moving the above mentioned files is that iTunes and iPhoto need to know where the files are stored.
Here's an article explaining how to move the iTunes folder. You can move the iPhoto library using the Finder but there is a slight complication. Start iPhoto, open the Preferences and click on the Advanced tab. The first option is "Copy items to the iPhoto Library". If this option is checked, copy the iPhoto library to your external folder (drag it from the Pictures folder to your external drive) and then delete it from your Picture folder. If this option is not checked, it is a bit more complicated and we'll need to talk a bit.

  • Describe Family Sharing using Quicken 2015

I can't find a description of how family sharing works. Quicken 2015 has Family Sharing enabled. I want to have Quicken 2015 program which I recently purchased accessible from two different user accounts on family computer with each user having a different Quicken 2015 datafile. I have already successfully created a datafile under my user account. Does Family Sharing allow me to set up a different datafile under my parent's user account? How do I register a Family Sharing program in the second user account?
Any pointer to a description of Family Sharing would be helpful. I tried to locate a description of it in Mac App store but couldn't find one. Thanks for your help.

That's a question for the Quicken 2015 support personnel or user's forum.
The following is from this Apple document: OS X Yosemite: Set up Family Sharing
Family Sharing lets up to six members of your family share their iTunes Store, App Store, and iBooks Store purchases, a family calendar, and family photos, all without sharing accounts.

  • I have a desktop Mac OS X Leopard. I want to upgrade to Quicken 2007, Install Snow Leopard and download iLife '11. I heard that Quicken and Snow Leopard can clash and have problems.  What would be the best order for installing these products. Thank You.

I have a desktop MAC OSX Leopard. I want to upgrade to Quicken 2007, install Snow Leopard, download iLife'11.  I heard that Quicken and Snow Leopard can clash..........that is why I am upgrading Quicken. What would be the best order of installing these products.  I have gotten defferent opinions and I want to be sure I install them correctly.
    Thank You.

First, install OS X, then install your third-party software.
How to Install OS X Updates Successfully
    A. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions:
Boot from your current OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. Then select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    B. Make a Bootable Backup Using Restore Option of Disk Utility:
      1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
      2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
      3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
      4. Check the box labeled Erase destination.
      5. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the
          Destination entry field.
      6. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the
          Source entry field.
      7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal
    startup drive.
    C. Important: Please read before installing:
      1. If you have a FireWire hard drive connected, disconnect it before installing the
update unless you will boot from this drive and install the update on it.
Reconnect it and turn it back on after installation is complete and you've
          restarted.
      2. You may experience unexpected results if you have installed third-party system
software modifications, or if you have modified the operating system through
other means. (This does not apply to normal application software installation.)
      3. The installation process should not be interrupted. If a power outage or other
interruption occurs during  installation, use the standalone installer (see below)
from Apple Downloads to update.  While the installation  is in progress do not use
          the computer.
    D. To upgrade:
Purchase the Snow Leopard Retail DVD.
Boot From The OS X Installer Disc:
          1. Insert OS X Installer Disc into the optical drive.
          2. Restart the computer.
          3. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
          4. Release the key when the spinning gear below the dark gray Apple
              logo appears.
          5. Wait for installer to finish loading.
          6. Follow instructions.
After installing Snow Leopard you should update it by downloading and installing Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

  • Running OS X 10.6 and LR 2.7 want to upgrade.  OS X first or LR upgrade first?

As above have 27inch iMac 2.8ghz quad core 8gb ram running OS X 10.6.8 and LR 2.7
I want to upgrade both OS and LR.  Which do I do first?  LR onto OS X 10.6.8 or OS X 10.10 still running LR 2.7?

You should probably upgrade the system before you upgrade the programs within it.
