White Balance Sheet

hi guys,
this thread is addressing/asking you pro-product photographers...
to allow a perfect white balance, i have shot photos with a page having white, grey and black references on it in the image, then cropping it. however, i have lost the page and i have no idea where i have that file. instead of creating a new one - do you guys have such a document handy to share (pdf or so) so it can be printed and be placed in the photo at the next shooting?
or do you use other/pre-produced reference cards?
in case you don't have such a document - would anybody be interested if i create one and share it here? let me know.

You are raising a thorny problem. First if you are
shooting in a place where you know in advance there
will be no neutrals then try to make a shot at the
beginning with a white paper business card or some
other neutral. The White Balance won't change so much
from shot to shot.
You need to find something in the image that you
'know' to be nutral. About L level 80 or higer works
best for me but I have seen others in this forum
reccomend more medium grays. but not so high that one
of the channels is clippiing at 255.
If there are no neutrals and also no skin tones in
the images your WB can be pretty subjective (far from
the actual scene) and it will look OK. Aperture has
the auto adjust RGB button that will stretch the
three histograms seperately to fill the full tonal
range. I think that it was Andrew Rodney who
published that as the 90% rule (it works 90% of the
time).
For some reason adjusting the three histograms in
Aperture doesn't work as well for me as it does in
Photoshop when I use the Auto Levels - separate
command. But adjusting the R, G, and B channels
manually using the Levels adjust still gives a good
result.
I find that there are really very few images with no
neutrals for the WB clicker to latch onto, less than
5% for my shooting.
Thanks for taking the time to explain.
What does “About L level 80” refer to? Is this on the RGB readout?

How do I include metadata information (aperture, shutter speed, ISO and white balance) to each image on contact sheet?

Just to expand JimHess reply. This are all the EXIF data you can include on a print. As far as I know, WB is not written to any standard EXIF fields.

  • White balance field to metadata panel

There's a lot of info available in the metadata/EXIF panel but the preset/program used for white balance is missing, eg. Auto, Cloudy, Tungsten, Custom, etc. Interestingly though, LR can read the actual values in the Develop module, unless I'm wrong and it is actually working it out, not reading it.

Is there any way to get detailed info of White Balance setting in Bridge Metadata ?  I'm getting only "custom" ; my instructor in College needs more detailed data in my contact sheets.
    Thanks for any imput
You can't get this info in a contact sheet, neither is it easy to get other then look at the camera setting you have used to shoot the files. Maybe it is somewhere hidden deep down in the exif data but I can't find it with exact numbers.
Shooting Raw those WB figures are irrelevant because you can set color temperature and tint to whatever you like. Shooting jpeg your options are limited because of the fact the Raw data is already processed and changing temperature and tint effects the whole image.
Try shoot a Raw and jpeg together from the same scene. One with daylight and one with artificial light conditions. (personally I have set my WB in camera fixed at 5500 but with auto settings you can also see the difference) Try to correct the jpeg and the Raw file in ACR and see what I mean.
And to be honest, if your instructor at College would like to have this he also should tell you why he wants it and how you can deliver it...

  • PLD Balance Sheet - landscape with more than four columns possible?

I'm assuming this can't be done based on the zero responses... but perhaps someone new will know...
I have cleaned up the Periodic Balance Sheet by removing % differences and such, and am left with the account name and four columns (five columns total).  This works great for quarterly reviews... But I want to be able to see the entire year on one landscape page if I were to choose a monthly report.  Those columns do not magically add to the same page; rather, they appear on separate pages (so for a monthly balance report, you would see three pages).
How in the world can I make this work to not create new pages when there's plenty of white space left?
Thank you in advance for either the 'this is not possible' or 'do this' type responses.

    Hi Russell,
I don't think it's possible. There are some print layouts in the system which are a bit dodgy: have a look at the actual fields displaying the data: these are all simple text type fields but still they are the ones containing the data... These kind of layouts are made by SAP in a way we can't edit, if you try to for instance copy those text fields they will not display the same info anymore, just the original ones, or once you deleted them you can't reproduce them to work again.
So unfortunately this is something SAP made working this way and we can't change it. You can try maybe to recreate the same report in Crystal?

  • Manual white balance

How do I manually white balance my three Sony HDR-HC1 hidef (consumer) video cameras in a dark theater? I produce DVDs of ballets for a local ballet company and I have trouble with color disparities between different camera angles when I am editing the three angles. The closest camera always has the best color and the furthest camera always looks yellow.
I have read about using manual white balance prior to the performance (I have always left the white balance setting on "Auto".) Is it as easy as holding a white object in front of the camera on stage then using the manual white balance? Any tips would be appreciated.
    Thank you in advance.

Is it as easy as holding a white object in front of the camera on stage then using the manual white balance? Any tips would be appreciated.
Yes. But you have a dilemma in that third camera. Incandescent light disperses over distance and you'll see the yellow cast you're seeing.
Best bet: get a big sheet or something else white and use THAT to white balance the cameras IN THEIR SHOOTING POSITIONS. Then that yellowish blob you're seeing from the back will be seen as white by the camera. Obviously you can't run out with a big bedsheet just before a performance, so do it during the setup phase. If your cameras will not hold that balance when shut down, keep them powered up.

  • White Balance Metadata not showing in Adobe Bridge CS6

Hi there, I am running Bridge CS6 on a Mac, and use Canon 5D and 5DMark 111 cameras. I have an issue with Bridge which I can not seem to figure out. Whether I shoot Raw or JPG and I am trying to do some testing for white balance, once I open the images in Bridge, in the little icon panel just below the folders/favourites panel etc I can see the f stop info, speed, metering , ISO etc, but the only icons I get for WB are if use auto - then I see AUTO.  But when I do a manual WB like 'cloudy', 'tungsten', or 'shade' etc all I get are the symbols for 'Custom" or "Manual".  How do I get the actual symbols for what type of WB i've chosen to show up?
I have purged the Cache - both in the individual folder and the overall Cache in preferences.  I have checked that all the boxes are ticked in the preferences panel for the Metadata.  So not sure what else to do.
    Cheers D

Ok thanks for that, at least I wont be chasing my tail.
I did install the DNG converter 8.3 but I still NEF files as a NEF icon. Any clues to what I may not be doing right there?

  • Adobe Bridge - White balance metadata

When I browse raw files from my Canon EOS Rebel XT/350D in Adobe Bridge I always look at the Metadata tab to check for the f-stop value, speed, white balance settings, etc. of the currently-selected raw image file.
I noticed that the pictures shot in Automatic White Balance appear on the upper-left portion of the Metadata tab as an icon indicating AWB. However, whenever I take pictures with manually-set white balances, such as shade, day light, tungsten, etc., the metadata tab no longer indicates the white balance I chose, instead, it either shows an icon of a camera or two dashes, as in --.
Is there any way I can set Adobe Bridge to show the appropriate White Balance icon for pictures I take with manually-set white balances?

    Hi Curt,
Thanks for your reply. Yes, White Balance is checked in preferences/metadata. All of the Exposure metadata entries are also checked.
I forgot to mention that my version of Camera Raw is 4.5 (the latest).
You know, although White Balance is checked, I cannot find a White Balance text entry on any of the metadata lists (File properties, IPTC core, Camera Data (EXIF), etc.). The only place where I can see the White Balance setting in on the upper left corner of the Metadata tab, under the f-stop value.
Here is a personal question for you: When you browse your pictures in Adobe Bridge and you select one that was taken with a specific White Balance (not Auto), does your Adobe Bridge display an icon for that particular White Balance setting? I just want to eliminate the possibility that this happening only in my computer.
Thanks a lot for your time and attention.

  • Aging Report does not match Balance Sheet Receivables/Payables Account

    Hi experts,
I am requesting your help to find out why our customer receivables/vendor payables aging reports total does not match our balance sheet accounts receivable/ accounts payable account for the same period.
    I would expect
Customer Receivables Aging Report Total = Balance Sheet Accounts Receivables Account
Vendor Aging Report Total = Balance Sheet  Accounts Payables Account
    Thank you.
    Jane

When you run the report with an ending/aging date in the past (like the end of last month), if you do not display BP's with zero balances, it will leave out BP's who have a zero balance AT THE TIME YOU RUN THE REPORT.  Some of them may have had a non-zero balance at the end of the month, but they will be left off anyway.  So if a customer owed money on the last day of the month and he paid it on the first of the next month, his balance will not be shown on the report if you run it even one day later.
I feel this is a design defect in the report, but it is the system behavior.

  • Currency Valuation G/L Account Balance Sheet Posting F.05

    Hi all,
Is there a way to post the Currency Valuation F.05 for G/L account balance sheet posting to another account than itself.
I cannot find any configuration on that, and a trace look to show that it goes back to SKA1,
    SKAT & SKB1.
Open item have configuration in OBA1 and we can fix the posting where we want.
But the currency valuation for the account balance always happen to the same account.
    Thank you,
    Carole

Bal.sheet adj.1 in OBA1 is for that only. The GL account is for Identifying that this is FC account in case of Valuation Loss/ Gain.
Incase of realized loss or gain, it is the same GL account that has to hit in the local currency.

  • Balance Sheet translation at spot rate at ANY point in time

My client produces its financial accounts in AUD.  They will have open items in AR, AP and Bank in foreign currencies.  WITHOUT running periodic valuation they wish to produce a Balance Sheet at any point in time during the month applying the applicable daily spot rate to valuate the Foreign Currency open items (for reporting purposes only).  I have run S_ALR_87012284 and maintained the special evaluations tab for Display Currency (AUD), Key date for translation (current date) and exchange rate type (spot rate type).  However, this does not appear to be revaluating the open items in the subledger accounts to produce the balance sheet at the current spot rate.  Appreciate input / alternate approach.  Cheers, Dean.

    Hi Chirag
As per Oracle following are the rules that has to be followed for translation.
    1. For Balance Sheet Accounts (Asset & Liabilities) GL as a default uses the YTD rule.
    2. For P&L Accounts you can choose between YTD and PTD rule. So in your case you can use the default PTD Rule. (Profile Option 'GL Translation: Revenue/Expense Translation Rule')
YTD Rule = (Translated Period Amount = Period-End Rate x YTD Ledger Currency Balance - Beginning Translated Balance).
PTD Rule = (Translated Period Amount = Period Average Rate x PTD Ledger Currency Balance)
    Hope this helps.
