Why are my icloud photo sharing albums taking up storage on my phone?
I am confused why if icloud photo sharing albums are supposed to have unlimited cloud storage why my icloud photo sharing albums are taking up storage on my iphone?
iCloud is syncing your Shared albums with your devices. All photos you share to iCloud are synced to the devices that subscribe to the shared album.
If you want to save storage on your device, store your photos in iCloud Photo Library (Beta) and activate the option "Optimize Storage".

Seems like iCloud Photo Sharing is missing some key features. Or clarity.
I've created an iCloud Photo Sharing album, to share baby photos with family and friends.
I want to my wife to also be able to upload photos to this album, but not everyone else.
Can an iCloud Photo Sharing Album have 2 administrators?Or can we have individual subscriber settings to specify who gets to upload and who doesn't?
Do all subscribers see who the other subscribers are? Family dynamics dictate that some members should NOT see each other (or their comments), but I don't want to have to create an album for each of those people).
Do email (non-iOS) folks get an email notifications of newly uploaded photos? (families = many generations, some of which aren't iOS compatible) What's the fix?

You may find the information in the article below helpful. If you delete the photos, they will only delete from the photostream.

How do I delete photos from a shared stream?
If you are the owner of a shared stream, you can delete photos from the stream in the same way you delete any other photos from your iOS device, Mac, or Windows PC. The photos will be automatically deleted from the stream on all your devices and the devices of anyone subscribed to the stream. Any photos that were previously saved or downloaded from the shared stream to another location, such as the Camera Roll, will not be deleted from that location. "iCloud Photo Sharing" and "Optimize iPhone Storage"
Before updating to iOS 8, my wife and I shared the same iCloud account. It was convenient for us to use the same Photostream, so pictures of our kids where always gathered together. But iOS 8 has too many features that make sharing same account troublesome, so we have finally split up (digitally...)
Our question is, if we share albums, will our iPhones also treat the pictures and videos in those albums the same way when it comes to Optimize iPhone Storage as those in camera roll? We have 10000+ pics and videos, so being able to stream those from iCloud instead of local storage would be fantastic...
If that's the case, is there a time or storage limit for how many items we can have as shared? Apple hasn't explained those terms very well, understandable, since these features are still in beta. I would be very grateful if someone out there has more insight on this.I don't see a way to identify the new photos being added to smart album since I shared it last. iTunes' smart playlist allows you to do this easily. But don;t see a way to do it iPhoto.
It is not well supported. You would have to mark the photos you already published in some way, for example add them to a regular album or add a keyword, after you published the photos.
When you add new photos to the smart album, you can add a rule "and has not keyword 'publish'" to find only the new photos that need publishing. -
Why are someone elses photo albums showing up in my icloud account on apple tv?
Logged in to my account on iCloud on Apple TV. It did not ask for my password, and it is now showing me hundreds of photos of a very nice family ... whom I have never met. I am unable to see any of my photos, but I have the personal photos of somoenoe else. Any ideas of how this happened or how to get my photos? I am sure that this family might not want their personal photos being viewed by me.

On your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, your photos will appear in the Photo Stream view in the Photos app. If you're using iOS 6 or later, you can find your photos by tapping the Photo Stream tab and then tapping the My Photo Stream album. In iOS 5, your photos are in the Photo Stream album.
On your Mac, they appear in the Photo Stream view in iPhoto or Aperture. In iPhoto 9.4 or later or in Aperture 3.4 or later, open the My Photo Stream album in the Photo Stream view.
On a PC using Windows 8, from the Start screen, select Photo Stream. On a PC using Windows 7 or VIsta, click theWindows Start button, and then Pictures. Click Photo Stream under the Favorites menu in the panel on the left. Double-click My Photo Stream to view your photos.
On Apple TV, after signing in with your iCloud account, you can view your photos by choosing Photo Stream from the main menu (or selecting Internet > Photo Stream in Apple TV Software Update 5.0). -

My spouse and I use iCloud photo sharing all the time. We both take photos and videos of our kids and events and put them in our shared albums so we both can view. Then we delete them off of our phone to save space. But we both have been getting the message, on our phones, that our storage is full and can't take pictures. We have discovered in Settings>About, that those photos and videos are taking up our phone's capacity! If the pics are in the cloud, and not on our phone, why are they taking up phone space!?
Thank you for your response. But, I was also emptying my recently deleted folder as well. I think those numbers was a glitch for me because once I updated to the latest iOS, those numbers went down to what they should be. BUT, iCloud photo sharing is still using my phones storage. When I go to settings>general>usage>manage usage>photos>shared photo stream is using a few GB. And when I add photos or videos to a shared photo stream, that number goes up.
I don't understand why photos and videos in the "cloud" are using up my storage. -

My trip pics are more than 30 days old and my icloud photo sharing was turned off. How can I now share them to my PC for saving/printing? My sharing is now turned on but it's not loading them? Help?
That list includes all the apps that you installed to your device directly from iTunes on the computer, or which were purchased on the iOS device and subsequently transferred to iTunes on the computer.
If you right click on any item in that list and choose "Show in Windows Explorer" it will open your iTunes application installer directory on your computer, which should be:
C:\Users\User\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Mobile Applications
In there are all your saved application installers (*.ipa files). You need to delete those actual installer bundles and then make sure to NOT allow the "transfer purchased content" when you sync or backup in iTunes (as that will just put them back on your hard drive).
One caveat to removing those, is that if you ever wish to keep a specific release of a particular app, and the developer replaces the iTunes/App store version with something else, your sole source for your older version will be your own stored copy of it. So for example, when PDF expert released their iOS 7 update, and charged everyone full price for it, if you wished to keep using the previous version on your own devices, then you needed to keep a copy of the installer on your own computer as that older version is no longer available in the store front. -

why are not all photos taken with an iphone available on the icloud, even that i made some fotos at the same time?
Some of these photos are afterwards available on fotostream others not.

most common issue is either bad sort (view menu ==> sort events) or bad camera dates

Having a Macbook Pro i have taken and loaded in 569 photos from my cameras and want to share using iCloud. But I simply cannot get iPhoto to enable iCloud photo sharing. What could be the cause? what should I try other than the instructions which I followed three times already as outlined in the FAQ section of the help function?

Confused about photos/shared/albums folder

I have an iPhone 5 iOS 8. under my photos: I have the collection of photos taken to date. under the Shared tab (iCloud photo sharing), I have activity, and another album; under the Albums tab, I have camera roll, my photo stream, videos, events from my mac, faces from my mac, recently deleted, and Last 12 Months from my mac.
I do not have enough storage in my iCloud to update. I would like to understand why I cannot delete photos in various albums that are "from my mac". In the Last 12 Months folder from My Mac, there are 320 photos. I believe these are stored on my macbook so I don't need all of those on my phone. How do I remove some of these photos that are taking up iCloud space?
why can't the photos under the Photos tab where collections is found be deleted? I am so confused. It seems like I have multiple copies of the same photo in different folders. Can someone set me straight on what is what. I can't seem to learn about the difference in any of the mac support resources.Photo Library contains all of your photos except Camera Roll. Because you have only one album with photos (the other is empty) the number of Photo Library equals to "for itunes" album.
846 (camera roll)+788 (Photo Library) are all of your photos that you have in iPhone.
Everything else is a "shortcut" ("for itunes" folder points to Photo Library, "for screen" album may points to Camera Roll or/and Photo Library).
That means that you have only 1634 photos in your iPhone instead of 2536 that iTunes say.
Transfer your Camera Roll to your computer to sync it back later as an album. (like "for itunes").
Empty your Camera Roll (you have to do it from time to time anyway) and un-sync the "for itunes" album and everything else. Try to empty your iPhone from any photo in Photo app.
Check your storage in Settings>General>Usage>Photos and Camera. Slide to delete if it needs.
If everything is correct sync back the "for itunes" and the folder that contains your 846 photos from Camera Roll.
Are there also Videos in your iPhone?
When you sync the "for itunes" folder did you checked the "Include videos" (or something like that) in Photos tab of iTunes sync page? -

I have created a shared album using iCloud photo sharing with a friend. When I share some pictures from Photos on iPhone 6 with my friend using also iPhone 6 though tie shared album the pictures do not show the location data (geotag/map info). help me!
I have the same issue: the Shared tab shows zero content, even though I have dozens of shared albums in PhotoStream (all visible from my other devices, actually). I'm using iCloud Drive for photos on my MacBook Air and iPhone, but on my main desktop computer (Mac Mini) I opted to keep using PhotoStream. I'm thus wondering if that's part of the problem?
I'm using iCloud Drive for photos on my secondary devices, but on my main desktop device I have just about 1 TB of photos, and iCloud storage is WAY too expensive for that. (By contrast, OneDrive can handle my photo backups as a part of my 365 subscription.) Maybe I should turn iCloud Drive off on all devices and go back to my old system and see what happens. But I'm curious what sort of scenarios are causing the missing Shared Albums for other people. -
Iphone 6 icloud photo sharing not working
Today I got an iphone 6, did all the updates, and tried to use the icloud photo sharing. I can create a stream, add photos, and invite people to view; however, when other people accept the invitation nothing shows up except "No Items" despite me sharing 50+ photos. Also, when the other person adds photos to the stream I don't see anything on my end.

DVDs are encoded into MPEG2, which iMovie cannot edit. So you need to convert the DVD back to something else. For highest quality, I recommend that you convert the DVD to Apple Intermediate Codec. There is a free tool called MPEG Streamclip that will do this. You will also need to install the Apple QuickTIme MPEG2 Playback Component.
Here are the details.
1) Download and install the Apple MPEG2 QuickTime Component ($20) - available online from Apple.
2) Download and install MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5 (free).
3) Start MPEG Streamclip
4) Insert your DVD into your Mac. If DVD Player or Front Row starts automatically quit those.
5) Open a Finder window. Navigate to your DVD to the Video_TS folder.
6) Drag the .VOB files from the Video_TS folder and drop then into MPEG Streamclip.
7) If MPEG Streamclip offers to fix timecode breaks, say yes.
8) Use FILE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME to convert the files to Apple Intermediate Codec (or h.264 if you prefer)
9a) Optional: You can deinterlace your footage in this step, if you like
9b) optional: If you know the date and or time of the footage, name your file
clip-yyyy-mm-dd hh;mm;ss
(let mpeg streamclip provide the extension). This will provide metadata that iMovie will use to put the event in the right year and month.
9c) Optional: If you don't want to make one huge clip out of your DVD, you can make smaller clips by using MPEG Streamclip. Move the cursor to the "in" point of the clip, and press i. Move the cursor to the "Out" point of the clip, and press o. Then do steps 8 through 10 and repeat until you have done this for all clips you want.
10) Save the resulting file in a place where you can find it, like your Desktop.
11) Open iMovie.
12) In iMovie, choose FILE/IMPORT/From File and choose the file you saved in steps 8, 9, 10.
13) iMovie will generate thumbnails and you can edit. -

I find that shared video can be troublesome, a few haven't appeared to work as you describe but have done when I've looked at a later date. Hopefully they will work if you give them a bit longer. perhaps it would be a good idea if you make sure they are working before deleting them from the camera roll. -

Photo stream photos remain in iCloud for 30 days, and can be accessed by enabling my photo stream on another iOS device or computer. Shared streams remain in iCloud indefinitely, and can be accessed by enabling Photo Sharing on an iOS device or computer. Your camera roll photos are included in your device backup. Restoring the backup to another iPhone or iPod touch should recover them (unfortunately, you can recover them by restoring an iPhone backup to your iPad). If the backup is an iCloud backup be aware that Apple will delete it after 180 days of inactivity so you'll want to restore the backup prior to that.
