Why are referenced PK fields made double? (logical model)

The root table has PK of one numeric field "id". (Let us name it TOP)
Then by relation 1:N it goes to next table (NEXTONE). One more numeric field is added to make PK : (id, nextid).
Now the main part.
I create another table (LASTONE) and create a relation 1:N from NEXTONE. I open the entity LASTONE and see three attributes (id, id1, nextid), all having Relational UID checked...
Is it supposed to be so - and what I'm missing if it is?
If it is a bug - is there a way to avoid that?

Actually what I've brought here is just a test case; I ran into on a real task with quite a number of entities and with quite a few similar table schemas. The specifications it's based on are very hard and long (if ever) to change.

all having Relational UID checked.probably you used "New Identifying 1:n Relation" tool - referred attributes are added as part of primary key
2)

Can you check following setting in preferences:
'Data Modeler>Model>Logical>FK Attribute name synchronization" - clear the check box there and repeat the test case.

I had a logical model without field comments. Then I made an engineering of logical model into relational one. Later I added field comments to logical model. How can I copy these values to relational model? Seems to me that when I use
model.getTableSet().toArray()
then I get list of relational model tables. How can I get a list of logical "tables" and to get a relations between those two lists?

You don't need to write and run script for that. Just use engineering to relational model. Use compare/copy options tab if you don't want something else to go into relational model

Why are some of my artists doubled in my ipod?

Some of my artists in my playlist are doubled in my ipod classic. Under the second listing, there is only a song or two listed. Why is that and how do I consolidate all the artists songs under one ?

It sounds as though the second listing has a different spelling to the first listing.
Check in iTunes - very carefully. Look for extra spaces between words, spaces at the end of the band name, capital letter differences and so on.
The trick though, is copy the band name from the first listing into the band name box of the second listing. Make sure that you paste over all of the old text, including any spaces at the end of the band name (which may not be obvious until you look very carefully).
Once you have done that, if you use Sync to manage your iPod, simply connect the iPod to iTunes and let the Sync do its stuff. However, if you use Manually Manage, you will need to remove the offending songs from the iPod and replace them after you have made the changes to the artist field.

Chart Expert - Why are some formula fields not available?

I have a report where I had to do Running Totals with formulas. Following what I learned long ago from the documentation, I laid in my formulas, and then setup some "Display" formulas to print out the results at the end of my report.
Now I am adding a chart to show a sort of 'summarized' version of the report - its a simple Pie chart...
But when I go into the Chart Expert and want to select those Display formula fields (there are 4 of them) - they do not appear in the list?
FYI - These four Display formulas are in the Report Footer of the report, and my chart is in the Report Header.
Why do some of my formula fields appear in the Chart Expert "select field" list - while others do not?
I checked the documentation on this, but it is very "lite" and does not indicate why this might be...
Any help is most appreciated!

Read again - "Problem has been circumvented" NOT "worked around". In other words, when you pay a fortune for a poorly documented piece of software and you are dependent on answers from a Forum, where at times no one answers your question(s) and your boss is shouting at you as to how you selected such a lousy piece of software with such "lite" documentation and is hardly going to pay any more money for a support call to answer a simple question that should have been covered (and then some) in the documentation, (let alone support of the problem) - you CIRCUMVENT, i.e. give up and find some other way to do what you were trying to do.

WRT54G Version 7.0 - mother of all problems: Why are the DNS-fields in the status blank?

Ever since the purchase of my WRT54G Version 7.0 WLAN Router two years, I kept getting IP- and DNS-problems, but recently, I cannot access websites anymore at all. As I've already replaced the thing with another router months ago and just now, started to set it up at a friend's place while getting the same problems (with every single computer in the network), I'm sure that the problem lies at the router. All Windows computers report in uni sono that there may be a DNS problem. Firmware is up to date to 7.00.4. Ironically, LinkSys doesn't seem to feature drivers downloads to Version 7.0 anymore, though.
I've got the DHCP-server function activated, left the IP-address to 192.168.1.1 and the DNS-addresses 1, 2 and 3 to the usual 0.0.0.0. I didn't change the default WINS 0.0.0.0, either.
Interestingly, however, when switching to the status tab, the DNS1, DNS2 and DNS3-fields remain completely blank. Therefore, I assume that the router doesn't run any DNS with 0.0.0.0-setup.
Now, how can I make this expensive thing take up the DNS-tasks so that all those computers can access websites again?

How convert spaces in logical model to underscores in physical model

Hi,
in Oracle Designer we used spaces in logical model objects (entities, attributes, relations) which were automatically converted to underscores when the physical model was generated from the logical one. Is there any way how do this conversion in Data Modeler? So far I have been able to convert mixed case in logical model to uppercase in physical model (with the exception of foreign keys) but changing space to underscores still eludes me.
Why I think this is important: the logical model should use "normal" language if possible, i.e. spaces, mixed case etc. But the physical model should have uppercase only and definitely no spaces. Having objects in Oracle defined with spaces leads to many difficulties since any reference to the object must use "" around the name of the object...

but the problems continues (even when the model is reduced to no entities at all!)
The error you reported (in engineering and import) cannot be reached if there are no entities and attributes - it's a specific error probably related to usage of distinct types that are removed from design.
You can use search functionality in order to find attributes/columns (logical/relational model) with incorrect data type definition based on distinct type.
And it's better to move to Data Modeler 4.0 (833).
So what to search (example is on logical model - it's the same for relational model - column):
1) Activate search window (CTRL-F when logical diagram is active, or Find icon), switch to advanced mode
2) for "Object type" Attribute:
- check "Data Type kind" line and put DT as search text
- check "Distinct type" line, don't put search text - it'll search for attributes without distinct type
- change the operand for expression from OR to AND
3) press "Find" button
If you find some attributes, then you need to decide what to do with them - to set data type or to delete them.
The same for columns in relational model.

Thank you GL. I'll rephrase here.
We created a Entity-Relationship diagram for our Data Warehouse project. Initially we created Logical Modeling. Later, using that Logical Model we created physical E-R diagram that reflects the physical properties of Oracle DB. We use the DDL generated by the ER tool (Computer Associate's ERwin) to create the database objects in Oracle.
I guess, creating Logical Model and then creating Physical Model is a typical life cycle activities in any DWH project.
I joined later in my current project and the project team is maintaining both Logical & Physical Models though the project is in production. Whenever we need to do some change to database object, we do it in Logical Model first then in Physical Model and then in Database. I did not get any good reason from my team on why to keep this Logical Model up to date with production environment. So, seeking the communities thoughts on this.

Sounds like you're a candidate for Lightroom...based on the time you don't
want to spend in Photoshop.
Photoshop install media is likely created in large batches, perhaps in a
foreign country, so it's understandable that you get Photoshop 11.0.0 is on
the media.
I don't know as I would use ProPhotoRGB as my working space in Photoshop. I
was merely suggesting that you look at your color settings to make sure
things were the same on both machines.
How do you know your actions are the same? Did you copy the action
recording from one computer to the other, or did you merely record the same
steps on each one? Have you compared the details of each action step in the
Actions Palette to make sure they are the same? The symptoms still sound
like something different than sRGB being the output color-space, or the fact
it isn't embedded on one or the other of the computers.
How are you viewing the JPG when it looks the same or different than the
RAW? Are you looking at the side-by-side in Photoshop, or side-by-side in
Bridge, or are you using a mixture of viewers, one Adobe, and one not? And
are you using the Canon Codec on Vista or not? The Canon Codec would be
showing the camera-preview in the RAW not the RAW adjustments that Adobe has
done.
While the OS shouldn't be causing a difference in how the action is run, a
difference between OSes may make a difference in the processing to show up.
The camera profile associated with a RAW file is visible in the
third-from-right tab in ACR over at the right. The one with the little
DSLR-camera icon on the tab.
Can you attach the two JPGs on a reply, here, or if not, upload a ZIP of the
two JPGs and the RAW to a file-sharing site like http://www.rapidshare.com/

<pkg>/save/<patch id>/undo.Z and
<pkg>/save/pspool/<pkg>/save/<patch id>/undo.Z
Why are these files not hard linked? Is there a technical reason for that?

Yes i have diskspace problems, /var slice was configured too small (1GB).
First i tried moving /var/sadm/pkg to a larger slice, made pkg a symlink.
That does not work, SUM means no patches have been installed.
Second try was to move completly /var/sadm to a larger slice.
This seems to work good with SUM.
But today i was wondering about that someone changed the symlink /var/sadm back
to a new directory and put only 'smc/...' into it.
Now i know who it was: i run 'smosservice add' to prepare a diskless client.
sadm/smc/smcreg was modified on the symlinked tree, after that /var/sadm was
switched back to a new directory. This makes /var/sadm completly useless,
e.g.: 'showrev -p' answers with 'opendir' :-)
Ok, if i changed something i should not think all will work, so i think about a new
installation with much more space for /var.

I have the same issue. No certain sense as to why it happened although it seemed to start after I was on the road and turned my iphone into airplane mode and went one step further and turned off a bunch of other services to ensure I was not hit with a big roaming bill. I don't know but I suspect that turning those services back on may have been part of the reason.
I have found that in the case of my calendar, going to icloud.com allowed me to delete the duplcated calendars rather than having to try and clean up specific enteries.
I am still looking for a solution for my contacts however. On icloud.com I can delete duplicated groups, however the master list still shows duplicates for every entry. When I am on my Mac I can filter "out" the icloud data and be left with a single set of my contacts. It seems however that no matter what I do the syncing services thinks that I should have two of everything.
BTW - using the find duplicates does not work.
I hope someone else can chime in with a more complete solution. It is very strange as all worked well for a few months.

If they are in photos view then they are in an event unless you have a corrupted library
How are you"merging" the photos?
most common issue is either bad sort (view menu ==> sort events) or bad camera dates
select one and show event to see the event
