Why are some photos blurry on iweb?

When I drop in crisp clear photos, they instantly look blurry, especially when I use the edges to reduce or enlarge the photo - even the smallest amount.
I am using jpegs with a standard res of 640x480 - I have not encountered any problems in other applications when dropping in photos or making minor adjustments in the image size (through dragging) - why here? I am pulling the photos from ones I already have stored on my idisc (since they are already a smaller file size from the originals in my iphoto library).
Anyone have any suggestions? I would like my web site to look as polished and professional as possible and blurry photos isn't helping that goal.
Thanks,
Bob

I am getting blurry pictures too. I can't understand why. I edited the images in Photoshop, saved them as jpg's about 5X6 inches at 100 dpi, imported to iPhoto, dragged the images to my pages. Resulting images are not clear. Even after using the adjustment tool, some do not get sharp. I have tried sizing images to various sizes and resolutions without success. I have been customizing pages. Someone at Apple said that it must have something to do with the converter. I don't know. I just know that my originals are tack sharp and my pictures on iWeb leave a lot to be desired. Anyone have a cure for this? I am on an eMac running OSX 10.3.9. My work is published in B&W magazine this month and my web site has to be clear. See my web site for examples. http://www.RussAndMarciaMartin.com Some look good while others do not. If you look around, you will find blurry ones. I don't know why some are clear and others aren't.
Thanks

I assume you have Photostream on, correct?
In order for the photos to be moved into Photostream, you must exit the camera app, and be on a wifi connection.  Both of these criteria must be met before the sync occurs.

  • Why are still photos blurry when I play movie?

I am making a video slideshow using Adobe Premiere Elements 9. Most of the video is made up still photos. When I playback the video the still photos are blurry. What should I do to prevent this? Thanks!

I read your article Bill, and that just seems like a massive amount of work for the average individual who wants to put together a movie. Is all of that really necessary?
With PS, or PSE, and Scaling Actions, one can do batch processing of entire folders of images in moments. That linked article gives setup tips for doing batch scaling very easily, and the Action, plus Automate to Batch, will work on entire folders. My workstation will automatically process ~ 500 4000x3000 pixel images to 720x480 in about 2 mins.
There are two benefits when Scaling stills in an image processing program, prior to Import into an NLE (Non Linear Editor) program:
The processing overhead is greatly reduced
The quality is greatly improved, as the Scaling algorithms in an image processing program, are much better *
If one wants to let the NLE program do the processing, and one has many large images (especially at still camera resolutions), then they WILL need a very powerful computer.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
    * PrPro, as of CS5, has improved the quality of Scaling, but the overhead issue still exists.

  • Why are some photo events missing when I synch my iPad with the new iMac?

    Very confused user here.
I've just bought the new IMac, When I connected my iPad2 to the iMac and opened iPhoto on the iMac it asked to import photos. This proceeded, but when I checked it became clear that not all the events had been imported, even though iPhoto was saying that all the photos had been imported. There doesn't appear to be any reason why certain events have been missed - no difference in title, or date. How can I make sure all the photos are imported?

If the iPad works like the iPhone you can move photos into the Camera Roll as shown here:
Then from there it should sync to your Mac. That's how I got the screenshot above to my iMac and into this post.
If you have an iCloud account and Photo Stream enabled on both your iMac and iPad new photos to the Camera Roll will automatically be synced with your iMac and imported into iPhoto as long as you have the iPhoto/Photo Stream preferences set this way:
Of course this is assuming the iPad functions similarly to the iPhone in this regard and I should think it would.

  • Why are these photos blurry?

I have a Canon Rebel T3i. I have taken a number of group photos w/tripod, w/o tripod, w/flash, w/o flash, various apertures, many on automatic mode. All on autofocus. All of them come out fuzzy, especially the people on the ends. The attached might look ok small on this web page, but if you download it and look at it 100% you will see what I mean. I have two T3i cameras and they both yield the same results. I would probably get a better photo with a phone. Any ideas?

Opanda EXIF software tells me that your sample shot was done with T3i and 18-135mm II lens at ISO 400, 1/60 shutter speed, f4 aperture with the lens zoomed to its widest 18mm and the camera doing all the exposure settings in Program mode. Also, the flash fired. All the recommendations about focusing technique are well and good. I'd also use a single AF point, manually selected. Probably the center one. Also I'd use One Shot as the most accurate of the viewfinder-based AF focusing modes. Alternatively, Live View focus could have been used, which is slower but can be even more accurate. It also can help with manual focus, if you do that instead, because you can magnify the Live View image up to 10X on most cameras that have it. In this case, I'd take several shots, refocusing each one. The reason is the lighting, which appears to be common fluorescent, which is notorious for "messing with" focus and metering accuracy. The reason is that fluorescent lamps cycle on and off at a high rate... 120 Hz in the US, 100 Hz in some othre parts of the world. This is so fast the human eye doesn't notice. But our cameras can and do see it... and can be fooled by it. However I think the main problem is that your are using an f4 aperture. Lenses are typically not at their best and sharpest at or very near their largest aperture. Stop down to f5.6 or f8 and I think you'll see a lot of improvement. To do so, you'll have to get out of Program mode and use Av or aperture value exposure mode instead. This still gives you the same auto exposure and flash performance, but will allow you to select the aperture, after which the camera will automatically set the appropriate shutter speed. You may need to set a higher ISO to get adequate shutter speed. Stopping the lens down also would give you more depth of field to work with. That can be very important because another concern is "field curvature". When your subjects are in a straight line and you focus on the one in the very middle, chances are that natural lens field curvature effects toward the edges will cause subjects there to be softer. This is more pronounced the wider angle the lens is... Ideally you would instead line up the people in a slight arc, where the ones on either end are a little closer to you. However, you'd be guessing or basing your posing on experience... because it's hard to see in the viewfinder. An easier solution is stopping down to increase depth of field, which will to some extend offset the field curvature problem. Using a wide angle lens present other possible problems, though. One is that there is inevitable optical distortions with wide lenses, one of which causes subjects nearer the edges to be exaggerated and look larger than they are. You can see some of this occuring in the ceiling light panels (which also show "perspective" distortion). But I'd also bet that the ladies at either end of the row don't have that large an arm, as the one nearest the edge of the image appears in the photo. This is called "anamorphic" distortion and is an optical effect that's unavoidable with wide angle lenses. It's one reason most portraiture is done with standard to short telephotos, instead. The best solution is to back up farther and zoom to the 30mm or 50mm range... i.e. to avoid using wide angles for group shots like this. But to do so will require adequate working space and a stronger flash. Which brings us to yet another consideration.... when shooting a Canon camera and flash in any of the auto-exposure modes, the camera will set exposure according to the ambient light, and then the flash will be fired as FILL.... about 1-2/3 stops underexposure automatically. If you want the flash to be the main or primary light source, you need to set the camera to M or Manual mode. So long as the flash is set to ETTL, the camera then will ignore ambient light for exposure calculations and will fire the flash as strongly as needed for illumination... In other words, you still get auto-exposure even though the camera is set to M. However, now it is being done with FULL flash. Only problem is, if you are using the camera's builit in flash, it may not have enough power for this wide a shot at this distance. Built-in flashes are notoriously wimpy. If using an external 430EX or 580EX or similar flash, you would have ample light for the purpose, as well as better/more even wide angle coverage (using the flash's built in wide angle diffusion panel.) ***********

I've searched and searched but all I can find are posts on how to change the color of your folder. I am concerned that maybe, I accidentally shared it or have done something I am not aware of. (Mac Mini, 2.3 i7, 1TB, 16GB RAM running OS X Yosemite 10.10.2)

  • Why are the photos i print much darker than the monitor image?

why are the photos i print much darker than the monitor image?

Please read this post then provide some details.  What printer model? What operating system? What program are you printing from?
Some programs such as Photoshop give the option to print to CMYK or sRGB color spaces.  Even though the printer uses CMYK inks the driver is expecting sRGB data.  If CMYK is selected the prints will be much too dark.
Another thing to check is the media type.  If you are printing on plain paper and have seelcted Photo paper the prints have too much ink.

  • Disc Burner. Why are some files not readable or writeable?

    Hello,
I am trying to backup my friends computer files on a beige G3 (233 MHz). I am burning about 6 DVDs of AIF music files. Most of the files are about 30 - 40 Megs in size. Often I receive error messages on particular files that read:
"The operation cannot be completed because some data cannot be read or written.
    (Error code - 36)"
Followed by the choices: "Stop" or "Continue".
I have a bad feeling that my startup disk is too small but I am not sure.
Most of the files work fine. However some of the files cause disc burner to not be able to use them in the disc image before I burn. Why would this be?
    Here are the specifications:
Computer: beige G3 with two hard drives (one SCSI and one ATA hard drive) and a Pioneer DVR-110D DVD writer which is Apple supported (Apple system profiler indicates Apple supported on this DVD writer). My blank DVD disks are Sony Vermatim DVD-R (1 - 16x speed support). Although I think my beige G3 only writes them at about 2 or 4x.
I am using OS 10.1.5. My startup disk which has OS 10.1.5 in it is a 4 GIG SCSI disk. Is this big enough for a startup disk (for creating 4.5 GIG DVDs)? My files are on the second hard drive which is a 40 GIG ATA disk.
I have a bad feeling that my OSX startup drive is too small for disk burning - it is only 4 GIGs in total and OSX Disc burner (Disc copy) is first making a disk image on my startup volume before it burns it. Perhaps that disk image is too large for the startup volume. Is there any way I could ask OSX to put this disk image on the second larger hard drive instead (not the startup drive?).
Here is my process (I hope I am doing this right - I am new at this):
    1. I first insert a blank DVD-R
    2. A message pops up asking my if I would like to create a blank disc image for this disk (I think this is the typical Disk Copy utility window. I say "yes" and give it a name and choose the "DVD-R or DVD-RAM" option. (I am not sure if there are other important settings to choose here or better settings to use but I guessed the other options that seemed obvious. A blank disk image is created with an icon that looks like a DVD disk.
    3. Then I drag my chosen files to this blank disc image. It takes about 30 minutes to copy over. Thats when I receive the error message that some files couldn't be "read or written". The other files work fine but it would be nice if they all worked.
Why would some files not be readable or writeable?
    4. Then I choose file/burn in the top menu and the DVD is created. This takes another 20 - 30 minutes. At the very end of the process another message pops up saying:
"Sorry the operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occured (error code -28)" Followed by an "OK" button.
However all the files that made it onto the final DVD are fine - its just that its not all of the ones I originally chose in the first step when dragging to create the disk image.
Am I doing this the right way?
Why are some files not "readable or writeable" as it indicates in the error message?
Is my 4 GIG startup disk too small for this? or are the music files possibly corrupt? or could there be some other possible problem?
    Thanks

To follow up, I have some good news. After following your advice Kappy, it now works very well Thanks! Instead of using the 4 GIG volume for the OS, I am now using an 8 GIG partition on an 80 GIG drive. So now the OS has some room to operate. No disk errors occured on my first DVD
Now there was one problem. The second DVD burned gave me an error. I am not sure why but I am going to guess that because I had to installed the OS onto an 8 GIG partition maybe the OS needs to be rebooted in between disk burns because although 8 GIGs is certainly greater than the 4 GIGs I gave it last time, it still isn't a lot of space - maybe just enough to do one DVD at a time. Thats only a guess. So I rebooted to see if that clears the system out ready for the next DVD and I am trying to burn the second DVD again. If I remember I will report back. In any case, yes, this seems to be working. I hope this second DVD burns well too.
    Thanks Kappy
