Why can I not upgrade my macbook pro to OS X Yosemite?

I have an older MacBook Pro with OS 10.7.5, 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 3GB 667 MHz memory.  The update to Yosemite is denied.  Can I do anything to enable this laptop to update to Yosemite?

Officially, the answer is no. The Core 2 Duo Macs weren't built with the 64-bit boot code required by the last few versions of OS X.
We're not allowed to discuss ways to bypass this official limitation in this forum.

Why there no more upgrade for MacBook Pro 17in ?

The story I heard was that there wasn't enough volume of sales for Apple to expend the resources to develop the line further.  When the 17" MBP line only accounted for 2-3% of the sales, it wasn't enough to offset the expense to engineer it, stock it, support it, etc.  What they chose to do was to offer the retina display 15" MBP that supports the same resolution (and possibly higher) and at the same time reduce the number of models they have to support.

Hard to say why that would be.  Suggest you contact iTunes store support for help with this: http://www.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html.  They normally deal with iTunes and app store issues, but they should be able to tell you if there's an issue with your iTunes account that is preventing the purchase and how to correct it.

    Are you sure it's a 3rd Gen? If it's an 8GB or 16GB model then it's a 2nd Gen and 4.2.1 is the latest

  • Why can I not upgrade my account with the promo that appears when I click on the upgrade link?

I'm an existing customer and am currently paying over $50/month for Creative Cloud. If the link in my email says "upgrade now" and I click on it, and it takes me to a page that says I can get an annual subscription for $29.99 per month (monthly), why then can I not upgrade to that promo? If I'm not eligible, then don't send me the email link, it's false advertising.

    Hi sage-energy,
I would like to inform you that $29.99 promo is for our existing customers who own a CS 3 or later version.
This pricing is for 1 year, as per subscription terms, price is subject to change and a notification would be sent to the customers about the same.
Please refer : Adobe - Subscription Terms
I have checked your record, you have purchased the subscription for $29.99 and after 1 year it has revised to $49.99.
However, if you have got an email stating that you can upgrade it $29.99, I would advise you to contact our support team to get that email validated. We would take the required action on that.

  • Why can´t I upgrade my Mac Pro to OS Mountain Lion?

Being a person with great interest in photography, video and moviemaking I made a big personal investment a couple of years ago in buying what I thought was the best available computer on the market for multimedia projects for the time being, that is a well equiped Mac Pro (Processor 2x3 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with Memory 8 GB 667 Mhz DDR2 FB-DIMM). After that I also upgraded my Mac Pro with a better graphic card (ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB) and extra HDD´s Up till now there has been no problem to upgrade my computer to every new realesed OS software  (latest OS X Lion 10.7.04) from Apple, but when recently trying to download the latest version of OSX, that is Mountain Lion, this posibility seems to have come to an endpoint! When I try to upgrade to Mountain Lion, I get the message that this is not possible with my Mac Pro (in which I for sure totally up til now have invested at least 70-80 000 swedish kronor (10 - 12 000 dollars).
Is this really so, and if so, why has Apple in this way seemingly abandoned all those earlier loyal customers over the world who by investing their money in Apple´s Pro line of products like Mac Pro´s, have contributed so much in building the good reputation and economic ground for the development of Apple in becoming such a sucessful company? Even if Mac Pro still is a strong and competive computer for the time being, this discontinuation of softwaresupport for the big stock of sold Mac Pro computers world wide, remarks a crossroad from where in the long run, Mac pro´s will become useless and therefore also worthless in such an extent that heir owners once more have to make investments in new hardware from Apple, taking for granted that they find it still being a value in being trustful to the Apple line of computer products.
While a company as a rule always willl find ways to make investments in new hardware of great quality if this is calculated to increase the income of the company, the sitaution is totally different for all independent and creative people over the world who have a much lower budget for their projects and as a rule get no profit from their work but their personal joy and emotional satisfaction.
Do I really have to through my Mac Pro away (it will probably be impossible to sell it to a worthy price after Apple now has discontinued supporting the development of  it´s OS ) or do I have to buy a new Mac Book Pro with Retina Display and Thunderbolt Interface of latest version in order to feel safe in continuing using Apple´s Pro applications for multimedia projects foor the future with reliable continued support from Apple (and in that case for how long I ask myself), or is there any possibility to upgrade the hardware of my Mac Pro in order to upgrade to latest OS software and still feel being a member of the sanctioned Apple club?
Alternatively, maybe Apple can help all Mac Pro owners to make it possible to upgrade to needed Apple hardware and software line of their Pro applications, and thus continue to support Apple in using and inspire developing their products and Pro market shares as well as continue to spread their good reputation in this area, in supporting these reliable customers in some way, as an example by giving a discount to all Mac Pro owners upgrading to a new computer from Apple.
Maybe this in fact is the first step from Apple in a plan to soon stop selling the model Mac Pro because the latest compact Mac Book Pro´s already has exceeded the old clumpsy Mac Pro´s in function, versatility and potential for future development. If so this Apple´s decision is logic and understandable, but please don´t abondon all customers of Mac Pro´s all over the world  who have been utterly fidele to Apple in helping the Company to spread the good reputation of Apples computers to ordinary people through the years and thus to a great extent have contributed in buildning the necessary market expectations that have made it possible for Apple to develop and sell new products to a continuing growing market by fulfilling and helping ordinary peoples daily needs. I believe that without these earlier pioneers and supporters of Apple´s ever innovative productline, its not taken for sure the Apple Company should have reached this all time incredible height of success we all can witness today...
    Sincerely
    Stefanis
PS/ Me and my family are true Apple customers and supporters in having all together 4 iPhones, 4 iPods, 1 iPad, 1 MacBook, 2 MacBook Pro´s, 1 Mac Pro, 1 Apple TV 2nd gen, 1 Apple TV 3rd gen and a lot of general and Pro Application (among them all iWork programs, Aperture, Final Cut Studio, Final Cut Pro X and Logic Pro).

what a long post....Apple, btw, does not read this stuff, so ranting, raving, and complaining here might make you feel good, but it does no good at all. That being said, I, too have a Mac Pro Quad Core Xeon with 6 gigs of ram and an nVidia 8800 GT graphics card (not as good as yours, alas) and I've had no problems at all with it. Yes, it doesn't have Thunderbolt, but maybe we Mac pro owners will get lucky and someone will come out with an adapter (probably not). No, you probably don't have to throw away your Mac Pro, but if you do, I'll take it, for a small "recycling" fee >:-) That was a joke.  Yes, the Mac Pro's future isn't quite clear, YET. Hopefully that will improve very soon. As for not being able to upgrade to Mountain Lion. Don't worry about that too much, Nobody is forcing you to do that.  Your Mac Pro won't quit working if it isn't installed. From what  I've heard, you should give the new OS a chance, and wait to get it, in case there might be some bugs, or stuff not working with the new OS, which has been known to happen. Yes, we Mac Pro owners don't like being treated like mushrooms-kept in the dark, and being fed......... but Apple is Apple and it will do what it does, and there is nothing you or me can really do to change that. All I can say is....trust, have faith, be patient, go for a walk, do something else to take your mind off of this problem. IF apple decides to drop the Mac Pro for good, and that's a big "IF", I think they will anger a whole bunch of people
which isn't good. However, that hasn't happened...YET. Let us hope that it doesn't

  • Why can I not upgrade my iPhone 4 iOS from version 5.1.1 to 6.x?

I don't have enough memory, nor do I wish to upgrade to 7.x. I only want to upgrade from 5.1.1 to 6.1.2 at the latest. Why does Apple not let you do this?

Because 7.1.1 is the lastet IOS version and that is the version you'll  get when you update.
You should've updated to IOS 6 when it first came out.

  • I would like to upgrade my macbook pro model 5.1 (yosemite) to a Crucial 500 gb ssd drive, but I am hearing horror stories about ssd and yosemite conflicts, now what???

Newbie here...I would like to upgrade my HDD to a Crucial or similar 500 gb SSD. I am hearing that there are conflicts with SSD's and the Yosemite OS, any help or advice would be welcomed. Macbook pro (5.1).
    thanx
    mellowfellow

    Hi...Quick response.
I have been checking with other forums and various " how-to" groups about the upgrade. The concern is about using third party non-apple SSD's and only Yosemite and not Maverick or previous OS's. The SSD will eventually bog down because of the accumulating erased data and poor trash control, there are other issues involving security , and something about Trim enable and disable. I haven't tried anything  nor bought an SSD yet, I am just concerned about screwing something up.

  • Why can i not use 1 macbook with 2 user profiles and 2 iTunes match accounts

    Hi All,
It seems to me like a bizzare occurance that the Mac O/S caters for mulitple user profiles on one machine and iTunes allows for mulitple users to have seperate libraries on one machine but I cannot use one Mac for itunes Match.
My wife and I share the same mac, we have an iTunes account each and seperate music libraries but I cannot use her iTunes match as it will lock me out for 90 days on my iTunes match.
This is crazy? am i missing something.
    Many thanks
    Andrew

You are not missng anything.  That's the wy it is as explained here:
Tunes Store: Associating a device or computer to your Apple ID, http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4627
You won't find an explanation as to why this restriction exists.  You can voice your feedback to Apple here:  http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html

  • Why can I not purchase the Mac pro in the United Kingdom?

    Mac pro.

In most parts of the world, you can remove the side door with the Mac Pro 65 lb tower still running, and check whether fans are all running.
CAUTION: In the EU, the European commission has determined that you are too stupid not to put your finger in the fans, and the Mac Pro's plastic fans with pitiful 12 Volt motors are so dangerous it cannot be sold in the EU until a new model is released (possibly later this year). So this advice is not to be used in Europe.
Also, be certain that any bananas you buy are not too strongly curved -- those are illegal in Europe. Unfortunately, you will be forced to fend for yourself when using refillable Olive Oil bottles in restaurants -- they were unable to develop a consensus to ban them outright for the good of the public. So please, be extremely careful!

  • Why can't I erase my MacBook Pro?

I am fully backed up with Time Machine and use iCloud. I want to erase everything and reinstall from Time Machine. When I use Disk Utility, highlight my hard disk and check the erase tab, all options are greyed out.

Note that you have to start into OS X Recovery to erase the hard disk.
To do it, press Command and R keys while your Mac is starting, open Disk Utility and then, erase the disk. When it finishes, just close Disk Utility, choose the option to restore the Time Machine backup and follow the steps.
It's not possible to erase the hard disk while you are using it, so you have to start into OS X Recovery
