Why can't create file under /home directory?

I user solaris10, and login as root,I find I can't create any file or directory under /home directory! It say "operation not applicable" ,Why? I am puzzled it for a long time. Anyone could tell how to do it?
Thanks

For Solaris,
/home is not an on-disk file system, it is a file system under the
control of the automounter, and only the automounter can create
directories/files in it.
If you don't want the automounter to manage /home, then remove the
"/home" entry from /etc/auto_master
(and issue the command "automount -v" to force the file
to be reread, or reboot).
However, the typical setup for Solaris is to locate user's home directories
in /export/home.

  • Unable to create a user home directory ?

When I use root to create a new account, it can not create a default home directory for this user .
This problem will also cause a lot of other problems when using non-root account to login in.
    $ ssh [email protected]

    Last login: Mon Jul 7 10:13:42 2008 from 10.250.X.X

Sun Microsystems Inc. SunOS 5.10 Generic January 2005
    what's the problem ?

chances are its the automounter. check /etc/auto_master. it by default includes /home as a mount point for the automount process. if you dont need the automount for /home, comment that line out, save the file, and run automount -v (-v for verbose output). you should then be able to create dirs under /home. or, you could use a diff home dir prefix, or use the automounter (this will take some setup).

  • Why can't TLD files be shared?

First, a disclaimer: I'm an absolute newbie to JSP programming, so I may easily be overlooking something. If so, please point me in the right direction. :)
Second, a complaint (and I have a hard time believing that I'm the only one that's ever had this problem): why can't TLD files be shared between applications?
Where I work (at a university) we don't write single, stand-alone "applications"; we write "systems." A single system consists of multiple interdependent application, each of which may share aspects of their presentation with (potentially) many other applications.
Sure, I could put the tag library definition files in the WEB-INF directories of each of these applications. Then, each application can access the tags no problem, right? Right.
However, what happens when one of those tags is updated, or a new tag is created? I suddenly need to redeploy many (possibly more than 100) applications, just so that I can update the silly little TLD file in the WEB-INF directory of each of those WAR files.
Am I the only one that feels (strongly) that this is a major flaw in the design of JSP? Is there some obvious way to share these files that I am overlooking? Any help would be very welcome, but frankly, this is really discouraging me. For all the talk of JSP promoting component reuse, this one issue seems like a major argument in the other direction...
    - Jamis Buck

    Hi Jamis
    According to JSP Spec :
The TLD resource path is interpreted relative to the root of the web
application and should resolve to a TLD file directly, or to a JAR file that has a
TLD file at location META-INF/taglib.tld. If the TLD resource path is not one of
these two cases, a fatal translation error will occur.
It must be possible to share the tld file as long as it is possible to share a jar file ;)
I will provide you with more information and example later.

  • Why can I create a new folder in the catalog but it only shows up in windows not the catalog

Why can I create a new folder in the catalog but it only shows up in windows not the catalog

Not sure I understand the question but it could be because you meant to say "can't" somewhere in the sentence.  anyway, just guessing here:
    Try going to:
    File >> Watch folders
Now you can Add new folders here that you see them in Windows.  The word ADD is a button to browse for the folders and hopefully this will solve the problem you are having.

  • How to completely uninstall air app(clear up user files under app directory)?

In the adobe air 1.1 install/uninstall document, it says "Removing an AIR application removes all files in the application directory. However, it does not remove files that the application may have written to outside of the application directory. "
But it's not true. I found you cannot completely uninstall the app if there is any user files under app directory. If the user re-install the app, it will reminder the user "some error has occurred ...because an application with that name already exists at the selected installation location.... ".
How to get rid of this problem if the user didn't clear up the folder manually before re-install?  If it's a limitation of adobe air, anyone could give me any evidence from official documents? Cause I have to persuade the user to accept it    Thank you.

Problem is, my computer still has the Zen Micro's drivers installed and apparantly it's conflicting with my Sleek because my computer won't recgonize it as a Zen Sleek even after installing the drivers (it just recgonizes it as a generic mp3 player). I can still transfer files to it as a would with a generic mp3 device in My Computer. Problem is, ID3 tags aren't properly sent this way (which is annoying when I want an album organized by track number).
You shouldn't need to uninstall the Micro, it won't conflict. If tags aren't being sent properly then there might be some issue with the tags being read from the files. Check with a dedicated tagging program, and rewrite the tags perhaps on some test files.
    I'm assuming it's a Sleek with v2.xx firmware?

If the above suggestion doesn't work, try deleting the iWeb preference file in Home Folder/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWeb.plist, restart your Mac and run Disk Utility to repair permissions.

  • Apache default DocumentRoot (packages owning files under /home?)

(Google didn't lend me any insight on this, either in the wiki, the forums, or the mailing lists; please let me know if I missed something.)
I'm curious why the default DocumentRoot for apache lies under /home.  This seems wrong to me: I feel something under /var would be more appropriate, and I'm curious why this decision was made.  Personally, I'd prefer /home to contain only user files (at least by default) and that cluttering that up shouldn't be the decision of the distribution.  It's not easily changeable, either, because the apache package owns a bunch of files under /home.
So I guess my question is this: what's the Arch philosophy with regard to packages like apache and the various ftp servers and their default base directories?  Are this and similar questions documented somewhere?  (They don't appear in the Arch Packaging Standards.)  I feel this is deserving of official documentation.

There's http://archlinux.org/pipermail/arch-dev … 00349.html and probably other threads... didn't find anything else in the 2 minutes before work will be over

  • Can't Create File

After funcitoning WELL for a long timeon my Pages 2.0 has developed a SERIOUS, DISABLING problem — when I try to SAVE a new file, I'm informed
CAN'T CREATE FILE — How do I lick this problem? I can still open old files and print them out, but can't save any changes, for again I get the message "CAN'T CREATE FILE"
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Hello Antonius,
welcome to the Pages Discussions. This sounds like access privilege problems. Where do you want to save the files? Have you noticed a probleme with your system soon before the first time this error appeared?
Select the folder where you want to save the document and press the keys "command+I" to show the info window. There is a section at the bottom which you can expand with the triangle and where you can see what you are allowed to do. If you have the right to save into this folder, have a look at the higher level folder and then the higher, etc.
If you notice that you have no privilege to save, click on the lock (may be you need admin rights) and change the privileges.
If it seems that this don't work for you, because of more and more incorrect access privileges, start the DiskUtitlity app and see if it can find errors etc.

  • Never - Create a portable home directory on this computer now?

I have kinda the opposite problem from normal. I have Home Directories and PHD's working fine. I think it is working as expected, with one exception...
My Daughter has an iMac at my office. I set up her account as PHD so she could also use the account from home. (We SOMETIMES go home <g>) But when I log on as her from one of the other desktops at the office, I get the dialog: "Create a portable home directory on this computer now?". I answer never. And it keeps coming up. Does Never not mean Never?

    Hello,
I started a thread concerning the opposite phenomenon, when you once click "Never" it seems you cannot change your mind and get the question asked again ... maybe you could contribute to answer the question ?

I guess the settings preventing the dialog from coming up are stored on the client machine ?

    panuh gave you the solution:
    sudo chattr +i <file>
However, if you want to delete it later you have to remove the attribute with
    sudo chattr -i <file>
because it can't be deleted even by root.

  • Creating a File under a directory

    hi
I want to create a File under a specific directory, say "mydirectory" using BufferedDataOutputStream. How can i do it?
    thanks

BufferedDataOutputStream is not an existing class in the Java standard API. Did you mean BufferedOutputStream?
If you want to create a file under a specific directory, simply specify the complete path:
    BufferedOutputStream out = new BufferedOutputStream(new FileOutputStream("C:\\mydirectory\\data.bin"));
