Why can't i start my oracle 9.2.0.1.0 under Redhat linux 8.0??

When i installing oracle, after copying the files, it telled me "install successfully" , but when it in the procedure: "Linking Oracle9i Database 9.2.0.1.0", it stop and auto exit.
But I think i should have installed finish. So I try to start it. As below:
sqlplus /nolog
SQL> connect / as sysdba
ERROR:
ORA-09925: Unable to create audit trail file
Linux Error: 2: No such file or directory
Additional information: 9925
ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
How can I start it?
Is that because I hadn't set the value of "/proc/sys/kernel/sem" before I install oracle? It's original value is "250 3200 32 128", I don't know what it should be under Redhat Linux 8.0.
Can anybody help me?

Using this I was able to get 9201 installed on both SuSE8.1 and RedHat8.0.
On RH8, You have to hand modify the ins_ctx.mk per his instructions and up the value in /proc/sys/kernel/shmmax per his instructions. I did not hit the binutils issue. Other failures are probably missing rpms, as he describes.

Hard drive failure (why can't I start up with boot disk)?

Running OS 10.4.6. I was getting flashing question mark at startup. Tried starting with Disk Warrior holding down "C" key. Got Apple logo, but then screen frooze with horizontal lines across screen.
Rebooted, held mouse to eject disk. Tried TechTool Pro disk. Would not boot from that either (got circle with slash logo I think).
Finally was able to boot with Tiger install disk.
Ran disk utility from Tiger disk. My internal hard drive showed up in red letters and said "failing"
OK.....I can understand that.....I guess my hard drive crashed (on my 2 year old Powerbook...oh well)
But, why can't I start up with any of my boot disks (Disk Warrior, TechTool) only the Tiger install disk. Also the Panther and Jaguar disks will NOT start it...only the Tiger disk works. One more thing I'm wondering....I connected my external firewire drive that has a boot partition on it that I have started up with in the past....and it won't boot my laptop either.
Any ideas? Thanks for any insight. Guess I'll head to the genius bar tomorrow. At least my extended warranty is still good (I think).

Here is what the outcome was:
I took my Powerbook into Apple Genius bar (still under 3 yr. AppleCare), he determined that my hard drive had crashed. He shipped it for me to be repaired.
It came back with a message attached saying that the source of the problem was my 3rd party RAM, which was a 1 GB module. The note said that the memory had been removed...and that in some cases like this the removed memory will be sent back to the customer and will be in the box somewhere. I checked and it wasn't there. The "Get Info" for my system said I was now running on 512 mb instead of the usual 1.5 GB. The note said that this 3rd party RAM had caused the hard drive to fail, so the hard drive had been replaced.
I ordered a new 1GB RAM module from Apple for $300, didn't want to take a chance on 3rd party again. But....when it arrived, I went to install it....and my 1GB 3rd party module was in the slot....it just wasn't pushed all the way in I guess. I pushed it in firmly, closed up the computer, started it, and the "Info" read 1.5 GB again. I ended up removing the 512mb module and replacing that with the new 1GB one I bought from Apple. So now I have 2GB of memory and and extra 512 that I can't use. It has been running fine ever since (more than 2 months)
Can bad RAM really make a hard drive go bad?
I wonder why they said they had removed the RAM, but it actually had not been removed (at least not completely)

I've been trying to install Oracle 9i version 9.0.1 on RedHat
Linux 7.2 with kernel 2.4.7-10. This RH 7.2 is running on my
Compaq Armada M700 laptop that has 800MHz CPU and 256MB of RAM.
I have 10GB of diskspace on this laptop.
Someone in this group posted a howto on how to install Oracle 9i
on RedHat Linux 7.2 but for some reasons, Oracle Universal Installer
still hangs at 74% of the installation. Here is what I did:
1) Install RH 7.2 on the laptop. I also make sure that make, ar,
ld, nm and C for unix got installed when I installed RH 7.2.
I also verify by using the command "which make", "which ar",
"which ld" and "which nm" and they are also in the /usr/bin
directory. I also make the /tmp partition to be 800MB and
the swap file to be 500MB,
2) Modify the /etc/hosts file. This part is easy. I can ping
both the hostname, FQDN and the IP address of the laptop from
both locally and remotely (tested with SSH connection),
3) Go to blackdown.org and download jdk118_v3
4) Uncompress and put it in the /usr/local/jdk118_v3 directory,
5) Make a softlink ln -s /usr/local/jdk118_v3 /usr/local/java
6) Download and install package:
rpm -Uvh force nodeps binutils-2.10.0.18-1.i386.rpm
7) In /proc/sys/kernel/sem file, I modify the third column from 32 to 128,
8) Download and install package:
rpm -Uvh force nodeps binutils-2.11.90.0.8-9.i386.rpm
9) Download Linux9i_Disk1.cpio, Linux9i_Disk2.cpio and Linux9i_Disk1.cpio
to my laptop hard-drive,

Oracle 8.1.7.0.1 on RedHat Linux 7.3

Hi all,
I have successfully installed Oracle 8.1.7.0.1 on RedHat Linux 7.1 about 4 times now, and it works just fine. However, I upgraded to RH 7.3 and I get so far with the Oracle install - when I apply the setup_stubs.sh patch, my svrmgrl binary in the $ORACLE_HOME/bin directory dissapears even though the output messages are OK - I am then left only with svrmgrl0...this applies to other files as well, wrap0, sqlplus0 etc.
I have loaded the 4 libraries to make Oracle compatible with RH 6.2, but this is the first time the patch has failed to produce an updated svrmgrl binary (works fine on RH 7.1). I have edited by .bash_profile just like every other time, so I do not know what is wrong :((
Does anyone have any ideas on this one? It is very weird.

Difficulty installing Oracle 8i 8.1.1.6 on Redhat Linux 7

I am having difficulty installing Oracle 8i 8.1.1.6 on Redhat Linux 7. The installation process runs well and the last stage when the Database Configuration Assistant is running. It successfully copies the database files but when it reaches 80% (Initisialing database) it freezes and does not go any further. Does anybody know what good be going wrong here.

This is an EXCELLENT question. I finally got my Power PC running again, (since apple no longer supports PPC's AT ALL it takes longer when something goes wrong with everything out of stock), and I'm totally frustrated that I can't either put a ton of short videos in a play list and have it randomly play JUST LIKE a bunch of music. ***? how ******** is it that they didn't say "let's let music and videos play together in a play list if someone wants, the visualizer will just go blank (or play lava lamp type ****) while the musics on till the next vid in the cue..." or AT LEAST let a playlist comprised ENTIRELY of movies only play if there's some BIG ISSUE with the music/movie mix playlists, wtfe. This is just frustrating and OBVIOUS.

Why can't re-install the Oracle 9i AS in the last intalled LINUX ??

In my host , it is redhat 8 OS . In the last time , it has be installed the oracle 9i AS in the /opt/oracle/product/9.0.2 and I use the oracle-installer program to un-install pre-installing AS. Now , I want to re-install the AS to other $ORACLE_HOME directory , but the process of installing put the error message of following and I can’t re-install the AS:Install has detected an invalid Active EMD Home. Configured as /opt/oracle/product/9.0.2Passsible cause for this error may be a previous installaiton of oracle9i AS that ……I has deleted the /opt/oracle/product/9.0.2/* and /etc/ora* file , why has prompt the error message?Plesase get me a help for re-install the Oracle 9i AS. Can anyone tell me why I can't run the new Age of Empires lll on my iMac? has this thing really that old and cannot support this game? My nine year old is anxious to start. Here is what it says when I try to launch the game:
"Age of Empires lll requires a CPU running a 1150 MHz of faster."

"Your main video card must have at least 64MB of VRAM to play Age of Empires lll"

Why can't I find package oracle.dbtools

Hi,
Im trying to develop an extension for sql developer. To complete my extension I need to import oracle.dbtools into the application. Everywhere I search on the internet just shows people using it, and for some reason my JDeveloper can not find it what so ever. Where can I find this or what can I do to resolve my issue.

It turns out oracle.dbtools is not a package, but rather the top level portion of the namespace of many packages that can be found in jar files with names of the form: oracle.sqldeveloper.jar and oracle.sqldeveloper.*.jar. Where can they be found?
1. If you install (unzip), say, the base JDeveloper 11.1.1.4 product, you will see none of those jar files.
2. With JDeveloper 11.1.1.4 Studio edition, however, you will find several in the ...\jdeveloper\sqldeveloper\lib and extension directories.
3. Download and unzip SQL Developer and you will find even more such jar files.
Of course the jars in JDeveloper 11.1.1.4 will be quite out-of-date, so you will want to get them from the SQL Developer release your extension targets.

Why can't I start DBA STUDIO on my computer?
