Why can't I write ID3 tags?

Hi gang. Odd problem. Just very recently noticed it.
With some files, but not all, when I go to bounce them, it won't let me write ID3 tags.
I click the Bounce icon. The bounce box comes up.
I overtype the file name at the top.
I select destination MP3. Stereo mode is joint stereo. Write ID3 tags is ticked, so are use best encoding, filter frequencies below 10Hz , mode offline and include audio tail. Bit rate mono is 80kbps. Bit rate stereo is 160kps. Bit rate VBR is not ticked.
I click ID3 settings. The Bounce box goes out and then after a very short moment comes back set back to the PCM destination with the file name missing.
I go through the whole routine again. This time the bounce box goes out and stays out.
The only way it will bounce is without changing the ID3 tags. It flatly refused to edit them. Just no way, I can't get at them, that's it.
Version is 9.1.5 (1 7 0 0.9) 32 bit. Yes I have tried saving the file, shutting the program down and restarting it, it still does it. Once a file starts doing this, that's it, it always does it.
The only thing that's changed recently is DwellClick. Every file created after that seems to have the problem. Every one before it is still OK, even with DwellClick running. However, if I create a new project now, the problem doesn't happen, it's fine. Something must be happening during the project that stops the ID3 tag dialogue box being accessible.
Is this a software incompatibility? a software bug? suggestions??

Hi
Erm, excuse me asking a really stupid question, but how would I do that?
and why is it affecting some files but not others? The latest file here does not seem affected. If it was a global preferences issue would it not affect all files? is it not more likely that it is the project itself that has the issue?
I notice that the project file can be examined as a package which apparently contains a folder LgDoc, which itself contains
displayState, which appears to contain coding instructions and data
documentData, which is mostly unintelligible coding with odd bits in clear text
windowImage.jpg, which is just the graphic for the icon.
This for example is a displayState file from a project that does not allow access to the ID3 tags:

  • Bug or Feature? iTunes doesn't write ID3 Tags when you recorded in VBR mode

    When you record music from a CD with iTunes (6.0.4 and 6.0.5) using higher bit rates (High Quality) together with VBR, then the iTunes database initialy shows a correct entry. But if you check the created mp3-files with the Finder application you will see that there is no id3-tag in the file.
    When you later move your iTunes music folder, iTunes asks you to modfify everything concerning the embedded infos (id3 tags). If you then say "yes" your database is gone.
    I saw a couple of postings where users complain about that iTunes loses the id3 tag when they burn a CD. I think that there has never been a physical ID3-Tag although the iTunes database shows a correct entry.
    Is some kind of a bug fix out there or should I use Musicmatch within Parallels Desktop for Mac in order to properly record in VBR mode?

    Odysseas,
    "But if you check the created mp3-files with the Finder application you will see that there is no id3-tag in the file."
    You can't see ID3 tags in the Finder. The data is imbedded in the song file itself.
    Regular, commercially produced CDs do not support ID3 tag information. When you insert a CD and it opens in iTunes, the application will go out on the internet and look up the track information in the Gracenote (CDDB) database.
    Then, when you rip the CD to an MP3 or AAC etc. the track information is then incorporated into the encoded song file. Using VBR shouldn't prevent the ID3 tag information from being transfered.
    However, if you then burn a music CD from that file, the ID3 tag information is lost.

  • Will iTunes every properly write id3 tags?

    I'll change info to how I want it.
    For example..
    I erase all the albums/album atrists/year/track# etc.. because I don't really care.
    I take the "purchased from beatport" out of the comments and replace it with the Key
    Often I find that a few days later I will go back and the comments will be changed back, or the album will be changed back.
    Why is this?
    ALSO..  Why can you only consolidate artists/album/track? I don't get this.
    Shouldn't there be a way for us to choose how we want our files stored?
    Seems like it would be pretty easy to implement.

    Why is this?
    There is nothing in iTunes that will automatically change track info like that.  However, it is possible that you have another program on your Mac that modifies the tags, which are then reflected by iTunes the next time it reads the file.  Do you have a tagging program, or Spotify, or anything like that?
    ALSO..  Why can you only consolidate artists/album/track? I don't get this.

    That is how Consolidate works.  There is no option for Consolidate to do it differently.

  • After converting mp3s to AAC, does itunes write id3 tags?

    I'm on OSX 10.3.9 and running iTunes 5.0.1. I just recently converted a lot of music which was on mp3 format to AAC at 128kbps (saved about 30% space with no loss of quality).
    Now when I'm running iTunes, it lags and a small window comes up sporadically saying "Writing ID3 Tags."
    Is this for the files I converted to AAC recently, or what's this all about?

    out of interest how did you do the conversion ?
    Make an intelligent playlist, with the setings, "kind is" - "MPEG"
    Check that your "convert to" setting is AAC.
    In your MPEG playlist, press command and a keys together (or Edit > Select All, from the menu bar) and choose Advanced > Convert to AAC.
    When you are done, use Select All then option and delete keys together in the playlist, to remove the MPEGs from your library.

  • Pytagwrite - easily write ID3 tags to your songs

    So, I eventually got fed up of manually typing in the song titles and artists in ncmpcpp. I mean, the title is the same as the file name, right?
    #!/usr/bin/env python2
    import os
    import sys
    from mutagen.id3 import ID3
    from mutagen.easyid3 import EasyID3
    import mutagen
    for root, dirs, files in os.walk(sys.argv[1]):
    if root == sys.argv[1]:
    continue
    for f in files:
    try:
    song = EasyID3(os.path.join(root, f))
    except mutagen.id3.error:
    song = ID3()
    song.save(f)
    break
    song['title'] = f[:-4]
    song['artist'] = root.split('/')[-1]
    song.save()
    Basically, it parses through your music folder. For every mp3 that has an ID3 header, it writes the title of the song, which is the file name with the extension stripped off, and the artist, which is the top directory name.
    For example:
    /home/brad/Music/Pink Floyd/Wish You Were Here.mp3
    would become...
    Title: Wish You Were Here
    Artist: Pink Floyd
    Dependencies:
    * mutagen (mutagen-svn in the AUR)
    NOTE: My python habits...err...suck. Therefore, there are probably many things that should be changed. Please do mention those.
    EDIT (11/11/10): Updated script. Many thanks to EnvoyRising.

    1. Using sys.argv would allow the user to pass in a music directory instead of having it hard-coded
    2. Use of os.walk might be more straight forward.
    #!/usr/bin/env python2
    import os
    import sys
    from mutagen.id3 import ID3
    from mutagen.easyid3 import EasyID3
    import mutagen
    for root, dirs, files in os.walk(sys.argv[1]):
    if root == sys.argv[1]:
    continue
    for f in files:
    try:
    song = EasyID3(os.path.join(root, f))
    except mutagen.id3.error:
    song = ID3()
    song.save(f)
    break
    song['title'] = f[:-4]
    song['artist'] = root.split('/')[1]
    song.save()
    That said, I didn't have much use for the script since i have my music organized as Artist/Album/## Track . Either way, this was kind of fun to hack on.

  • Why can't i write text directly in a Pages document without using a text box ?

    Hello buddies,
    Once upon a time, when I was running Leopard on my MB black, I was able to open a Pages document and type text directly without creating a textbox. That was a great way to take notes during a meeting or to past a long document in, without thinking how many pages it will takes.
    Apparently, this is no more possible ...
    Is any of you can tell me why ?
    And then how can I do to have this possibility back ?
    Thanks forward,
    Best regards,
    Stéphane

    Because you have opened a Layout template.
    Go back to the Template Chooser and pick a Word Processing template, they are listed in the sidebar.

  • Why can I only write the samples to read during continuous acquisition?

    I am acquiring analog voltage signals and attemting to write to a text file when condition is true, thus there is continuous acquisition. However, the written files only contain 100 samples (the size of my buffer).. I need my files to read samples until the while loop is stopped. How can I go abotu doing this?
    Thanks,
    TFlax
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    I have been able to make this work, but  it only writes the buffer size. I am new to labview and programming in general and I have tried to make a producer and consumer design however I dont seem to understand the concept properly and fail to run my program properly... So here's my code before any attempt to producer/consumer design which only writes 100 samples to file. Advice on how to modify it to producer/consumer because Im not even sure where to start.

  • Why can't I write to the VFS?

    Hi
    I'm trying to sequence a Java application Using App-V 5 and banging my head against the wall as I can't get it to work for non-admin users. To give some more info about the environment, we're running App-V 5 SP2 Hotfix 5 RDS client in shared content
    mode which is installed on a XenApp PVS image. Apps are published globally at boot time by means of a PowerShell script.
    I'm sequencing using the latest version of the sequencer (SP2 Hotfix 4). The Java app in question has a requirement for Java 6u25 so I've sequenced this using the excellent guide here:
    http://packageology.com/2014/02/sequencing-java-the-definitive-guide-part-1/.
    To launch the java app I'm calling the javaws.exe inside the bubble and directing it to the applications .jnlp file which I've also copied into the bubble. Now when I run the app as an admin it works perfectly, but for non-admin users, using procmon I can
    see that javaw is trying to copy files into the java cache in %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\AppV\Client\VFS\<guid>\LocalAppDataLow\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0 but failing with access denied.
    What I can't understand is that I get the same issue even if I tick the box to enable full write permissions to the VFS in the sequencer. I've tried various connotations of different PVAD/VFS settings but nothing seems to work.
    Any ideas?

    The list of write-protected file extensions can be found at  http://blogs.technet.com/b/technetsto_sup/archive/2014/04/01/cow-and-its-exclusions-in-app-v-5-0.aspx
    It might be an obvious question, but are you also using the latest version of the client?
    Is Appdata\local on a local disk (not redirected)?

  • Why Can't I Write In message after Hitting Reply???

    Hi
    Mail have always worked strange... when I chose a message and click the "reply" or "reply All" icon a reply window appears but not always I’m able to write some message on this new reply windows. This new window comes with all heather information, but with a blank message.
    I have noticed that it happens more often while downloading messages on the back.
    Can someone tell me what to do??

    Hola Sterling.
    Not sure what you mean, but this could be caused by some Launch Services cache or preferences corruption that affects the built-in spell checker. The following article describes how to manually reset Launch Services — the notes at the bottom of the article also provide information about the side effects of deleting each of the files involved:
    Resetting Launch Services
    If you prefer using a cache cleaning utility instead of following the manual procedure described in the previous article, take a look at this other article for general troubleshooting and cache-cleaning procedures. Actually, you should also verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described there:
    Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption
    The most appropriate utility for this particular problem probably is Tiger Cache Cleaner, but you may also want to consider other utilities, such as OnyX, or Cache Out X, which are free. Whatever utility you choose, be sure to read this first:
    Side effects of System cache cleaning
    As an example, this is how you should proceed with OnyX:
    1. Quit all applications.
    2. Launch OnyX and enter your administrator password.
    3. Go to Maintenance > Reset and check LaunchServices database.
    4. Un-check any other pre-checked options.
    5. Click the Execute button.
    6. Restart the computer.

  • Why can't I edit keyword tag icons?

    2011-05-15 - For some reason, when I attempt to change the photo that appears in the keyword tag for a given person, the button for edit icon is grayed out.  Anyone know why this is.  Is my database corrupt?

    Great! This is the solution I was looking for.
    Just to clarify the method:
    Select a photo with the tag you want to change the icon.
    Double click it in the organizer to open it on the one photo view
    Click the tag of the person that you want to change the icon
    The People Recognition - Confirmation dialog opens.
    Select the confirmed tab.
    Choose the photo that you want for the icon from the confirmed photos and drag over the current one, on the upper left corner of the dialog.
    Save.
    Thanks Axel.

  • Satellite M30-861: why can i not write to DVD?

    Hi I bought Satellite M30-861 about 15 months ago and until now have only tried to burn CDs - no problem. Now I want to try to burn onto a DVD but it doesnt seem to be recognised (I tried drag n drop and also NERO). I can see on the drive unit that it says DVD R/RW and according to my warranty info on Toshiba website I should be able to burn DVDs (this was a question I asked when buying!). Any ideas what I am doing wrong??!
    Thanks!
    Marving

    Hi Marvin,
    According to the specifications for your notebook you should be able to burn DVD-R/RW only. Are you sure that you are using the correct media ( -R/RW and not +r/rw).
    Also if you are using RW media then these will need to be formatted before you can burn to them. (you can use Nero INCD to do this).

    help!!!
    i have about 6000 tracks that just became 12000

    Hold down the SHIFT key and then select File > Display Exact Duplicates. This gives a list of all tracks where more than one track has essentially the same metadata, name, track no., artist, album, etc. Actually, if you know everything has been doubled then I guess you skip that step...
    If the duplicates have been recently added into your library as a job lot then you can sort the list on the date added column, select a range of tracks with SHIFT-click and delete all the recent entries. Please check however that there really are two copies of each file before deciding whether to delete the files as well as the entries from the database - get it wrong and you could delete your entire library!

  • Why can't I write to my external hard drive?

    I have a new Macbook pro, but when I plug in a USB hard drive it is "Read Only." I can find various places to change this, but they are never active for me.  Anyone know what to do? Thanks!

    How is the external drive formatted?
    If it is formatted as NTFS and your Mac doesn't have third party software to support wrting to NTFS then it will be read only.

  • Why can't I write to a removable drive

    I hav a removable drive I store photographs on and want to add more from the Mac. I have tried using Photoshop bridge CS4 and also fined to move copies to this drive but it will not allow me. I can do this on my WIndows 7 system pc but not on the Mac. How do I do this please.

    Thanks for replying,  I suddenly had a though went intoParalle /Windows 7 and check the sharing. Set them to allow all and give full permission. Then back to to Bridge and it all worked.
    By the way I have check the drive and it is formatted as NTFS, this was done as there is a file size restriction on FAT 32. I can access it now with both Windows and Mac.
