Why can't JavaFx media player play .m4a file on windows xp sp3?

Hi All
Why can't JavaFx media player play .m4a file on windows xp sp3? I got an exception that 'Decoder is not available' when I played m4a file on windows xp sp3(it didn't work on vista either), but it works fine on windows 7 , so I guess Javafx media player needs some system dependencies or resources when it plays media files, do you have any suggestions for this ?

To allow playback on Windows XP, you need to install the correct software in addition to JavaFX.
Once the system has been upgraded to meet the minimum requirements for playback of a particular type of video encoding, then playback should work fine.
See the JavaFX Media portion of the JavaFX 2.2 System Requirements:
http://docs.oracle.com/javafx/2/system_requirements_2-2/jfxpub-system_requirements_2-2.htm
Note, m4a is just a container file and data streams inside the container format need to match a supported JavaFX format for playback to work:
http://docs.oracle.com/javafx/2/api/javafx/scene/media/package-summary.html
Some approaches you could take:
- additionally encode the media in VP6 format and fallback to VP6 playback if H.264 playback fails.
- use a 3rd party player like VLC.
- don't bother supporting Windows XP video playback.
- direct a browser to a divx install page if playback fails (http://www.divx.com/).

  • Why wouldn't any media player play my iMovie?

I created an iMovie and then shared it as a file. I saved that file on my dropbox as it was a public computer and then deleted the file off that computer. Now when I am trying to play that movie, it won't play in any media player or iMovie itself. What should I do?

There is not much you can do unless you made a backup of the original movie/ project or made a full export of the project.
iMovie can export in several formats and some older versions could create 'reference movies' that were small in size & quick to export but that was because they referenced other files (linked to them) so when the original files are deleted the reference movie breaks.
I don't know if that is what happened here but it might be. You can only try playing the file you have in apps like VLC or Quicktime Player 7.
QuickTime Player 7 for Mac OS X v10.6.3 or later
    videolan.org
Both support more formats than the standard Quicktime X. If the file is very small it may just be a reference movie. See if either of those apps give you a clear error.

  • Why can't I transfer 24 bit m4a files from iTunes to iPod?

Im trying to transfer, what was originally a FLAC and is now converted to m4a, to my ipod touch 5 in iTunes. It transferred to iTunes just fine, but when I drag the album up to the top right corner of the iTunes window where my iPod shows up when its plugged in, it just doesn't copy ANY of the files in the album. No error messege or anything, it simply just doesn't even transfer it.

iTunes is quite good at failing silently if it doesn't want to do what it is asked. It doesn't say so explicitly here - http://www.apple.com/uk/ipod-touch/specs.html - but I suspect that there might be a limitation to 16-bit audio on Apple's devices. Wrong, seems the issue is more likely to be the sample rate. See this old post.

  • Why won't Quicktime 7.4.1 play .wmv files when Windows Media Player will?

I am running OS 10.4.11 on a Power Mac G4 Quicksilver 2002. When I try to play .wmv files, the following message appears: "The movie could not be opened. The file is not a movie file." However, I can play such files using Windows Media Player. I have installed Quicktime 7.4.1. That hasn't helped.

Thanks for the suggestions, but I already had Flip4Mac installed. However, I re-installed it, but I get the same disappointing message when I try to open .wmv files from Flip4Mac's "Quicktime Player." Perian doesn't work either. At http://lifehacker.com/software/quicktime/download-of-the-day-perian-mac-204423.p hp I read the following: Perian is a freeware plug-in designed to enable the playback of almost every popular video codec in Quicktime.
In fact, pretty much the only major codec not supported by Perian is Windows Media Video files (WMV), but previously-mentioned Flip4Mac should take care of your WMV needs.
I'd appreciate additional comments and suggestions.

  • Why can you get flash player on my iPad

Why can't I get flash play to download on my iPad 2.  Always says my device will not support.  I can't see some videos on facebook without flash player.

Flash is not available as a browser add on in iOS. Never has been, most likely never will be. Adobe tried, but even with substantial assistance from Apple, could never produce a version that met iOS security standards. And Adobe has ceased development on Flash for mobile altogether (Apple or otherwise). Personally, I did then, and still, applaud Apple's decision. Flash has seriously outlived its usefulness and it is time for web developers and sites to re-work and use another solution.
There are some apps in the appstore that might work for you. Puffin and iSwifter are two. Can't vouch for them first hand, but they are extensively downloaded. You might also check the sites you are visiting and see if they individually have apps available.

  • Why can't I import my full AVI file?

So I'm trying to import files from Camtasia into Premiere Pro.
So I have a 14 minute long clip I want to import into Premiere Pro. The video codec is TechSmith Screen Capture Codec. File type is AVI
Basically I import the file into premiere pro and the clip is only 23:25 that is 23 seconds long. I really have no idea why this is because if I open the file in windows media player it recognizews the full 14 minutes. Even within Premiere pro when I look for info on the original file it says it is 14 minutes so why can I only work with 23:25?
I have exported the same file twice out of Camtasia to test a bad export and the same result. It's weird since I have done this before in Camtasia and been fine.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't use MSI's MC application so I can't directly answer your question.
However both Win DVD 6 and PowerDVD6 play them just fine by launching the ts.ifo file.
Yes, I know that, but that means that I should use at least two applications. I need only one front end to launch all my media files, inluding ripped DVD files, not as separate VOBs but as whole movies decribed in IFO files.

Does anyone know  a package i have to install, i cannot remeber if i did so.

  • Why can i see only one picture in the illustration windows with iTunes 10.5.1?

why can i see only one picture in the illustration windows since iTunes 10.5.1?

Assuming Apple doesn't eviscerate the files of the secondary graphics with another upgrade, there could be a plug in that reads the graphic and runs along side iTunes..we should get someone or Apple to program an alternative If we have to accept this downgrade in iTunes proper.
I've developed a quick workaround, and am still hoping Apple will fix this!
Go To Get Info on the tune you want to see secondary artwork for.
    Go To the Artwork tab
Drag the back cover to the desktop, and it will create a new jpg you can open with quick viw or prieview where you can see it large!
you end up with a lot of jpgs on the desktop to discard!

This is not a feature of Adobe Reader. You'll need either Acrobat or a subscription to one of the web-based services that Adobe offers (like PDF Pack) to do it.

For your addressbook, export the files to vCard on the PowerMac, then bring them over to your Mac Pro. For your iPhoto, copy the Users -> yourname -> Pictures folder to your Desktop on the Mac Pro, and open iPhoto on the Mac Pro holding the command and option keys.  Select the library file from that Pictures folder and open it.  It should import all the pictures into iPhoto as part of the rebuild process.  Other PowerPC to Intel migration issues are covered here: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2295
