Why did Adobe see fit to eliminate, "Print Without Color Mangement"?

Why did Adobe see fit to eliminate, "Print Without Color Mangement", and when are they going to restore it? None of their workarounds is really adequate when printing through a rip. Prior to CS5 it was all so simple. Now, I keep CS4 onboard just for printing. Is there actually a good rationale for the elimination of such a useful function?

Adobe was forced to remove the NCA mode because the current OS X Mac print pipeline and print drivers quit supporting it. Photoshop CS5 & 6 and LR 3 & 4 can't send unmanaged data to the Mac pipeline; it'es either application managed color or printer managed color and iehter case, the data gets modified by the pipeline–which means the current apps can't send data with NCM.
The printer utility can do a workaround to do so.
Note, this isn't yet an issue on Windows but for cross platform uniformity, it was removed there as well. So, if you want to yell at somebody, go yell at Apple...
And no, it ain't coming back...

  • Where can I find the plugins folder when I have opened PSE13? I miss it in this version! If so why did Adobe removed it? Then this version has no use to me.

I just purchased PSE13 and after installing I noticed that I can't find my plugins  while I could easily open it in my PSE11. Why did Adobe removed it???  If so I think I will install PSE11 again.
Kind-a weird that this version doesn't have a plugin-use anymore.

I have Windows 7 Professional X86 and I also noticed that PSE13 was installed in my  'normal' program files folder instead of the X86 program files folder. PSE11 used the X86 programfiles folder. I dunno why though!

There used to be a a software called Adobe Image ready in the Adobe suite. it really made small animation and web animation very easy with the facility of main frame and time line . But I am a bit confused why did adobe remove it from the new suites? What should I use instead?

  • Why did Adobe DC delete ALL files on my SD card?

Well, the only thing that happened with my tablet today was the new Adobe DC was pushed onto it. Now ALL pics, videos, and old PDF files on  my SD card have been deleted. It is blank.  WOW!!! Thanks....

I found them. But having to access them separately & then "create a local file" for each one has been very counter-productive & counter-intuitive compared with the 'old' version...I guess 'the cloud' has got us with a ring-in-the-nose leading us where it wants...

  • Adobe Acrobat Professional 9.4 - Printing in color won't work

    Hello,
So what I've done so far:
    Checked the printer's settings
Checked the Color management features of Adobe Acrobat and made sure they are set to color.
Every setting is set to color that I could find.
Adobe Acrobat Professional is not printing in color, other Windows applications are. I checked the printer's default options as well as prior to printing, the "current" settings.  The PDF has color.  Any ideas why the pdf won't print in color?
Thanks for all and any replies.

  • How do I print without color management in CS6?

EVery time I print a test target for color profiling, I open CS4 so that I can print with no color management.  I can't figure out how to do it in CS6.  I must be missing something obvious, but I just can't find the option to print without color management anywhere in the CS6 driver.

As someone who prints Digital Negatives (there are quite a few of us out there now), the ability to print without color management is a huge liability. Why would you take that out of Photoshop and create a completely seperate application to do this? From inside photoshop, I can print with registration marks (necessary for multi-negative prints).
So now there's Lightroom to manage the locations, open up Photoshop to apply curves and then figure a way to add registration marks to the file itself, the print from another app altogether.
Even just the ability to add profiles (AdobeRGB tagged file, then print with photoshop manage color, AdobeRGB profile) works in this situation.. but for some reason.. you've decided to pick and choose which profiles we can and can't use.
    ... unhappy with CS6

  • Why did Adobe get rid of 'No Color Management' option in CS5

I use this option (in earlier CS verisons) when printing digital negatives on transparency film on my Epson 3880. There are a few work-arounds, including a printer utility from Adobe (which only works on tIff files, so it's limitied).
But why, oh why did they get rid of this option in the first place. Did someone just decide, gee, I don't think that's a feature we want anymore in our program, so, puff, it's gone? I hate it when program 'updates' make my work harder instead of easier.

Can you prove this with a supporting document?
Nope...I was told this by engineers familiar with the initiative...

ACPU and for that matter i1Profiler sends print image data (untagged I assume) through ColorSync and the print driver the exact same way as Lightroom and PSCS5 do when Application Manages Color is selected when printing. The only difference is that LR and PS do not allow you to send untagged image data.
ACPU does send the untagged data through Colorsync, but the image data gets converted by Colorsync or ACPU to the printer profile chosen in the print driver as set up in the Print window of ACPU...so, since the document is in the final profile space of the printer, the print driver does nothing (null transform). Then you choose don't manage color in the driver. Exactly how ACPU works with Colorsync to avoid having Colorsync to an unwanted color transform isn't clear (would have to ask the engineer that wrote it), ACPU is clearly doing SOMETHING different than Photoshop and Lightroom when sending the image data to the printer.
You can see what profile gets embedded when printing from ACPU by setting up the driver and saving a PDF and opening in Photoshop. When I printed to PDF from ACPU after setting up the driver to use Epson Glossy paper on an Epson R3000, the embedded profile in the PDF was SPR3000 Premium Glossy. Which if sent to the printer should result in a null transform. This is similar to the CS5 work around to tag an image with a color space and have that same color space set in Photoshop Manages Color and set the Printer Profile color space to be the same thus bypassing the Colorsync "generic RGB" transform. However, that work around no longer works with Photoshop CS6 (we were warned that this might happen BTW).
I haven't tried it yet, but it's possible that you could still work around this in CS6 if you take an untagged target, assign the printer profile, then use Photoshop Manages Color with the profile being the same printer profile and then in the driver set do not color manage...actually, scratch that–I just tried that and CS6 pops a warning that "No Color Managment is not supported" when trying to print without the proper color management and to get ACPU with a link to download it. I guess Photoshop got pretty serious about disallowing this sort of printing. Heck, you can't even print to PDF.
On the other hand, the simplest solution for me is to simply print out the target using i1Profiler...

  • Why did Adobe drop contact sheets in Adobe bridge?

The export to contact sheet was one of the better features of Bridge. Why would adobe remove this feature? It is extremely frustrating.

Well, you are not addressing Adobe here in the user forum.
We can offer solutions and workarounds, but we can never explain why Adobe does anything.  As my astronomy professor used to say a half a century ago, " I cannot explain the universe to you:  I can only describe it to you."
There's some talk about the Pixel Bender, previously codenamed Hydra, a programming language created by Adobe Systems for the description of image processing algorithms, on which it was based was just causing too many headaches

  • HP CLJ 3800 prints without color

The HP 3800 was printing perfectly until I changed from Win XP to Win 7.The printer is operated as a home network printer. After installation of the driver (as chosen by the Win 7 installation system) it then printed only without color. Since HP apparently no longer updates drivers for older printers, I assumed it was a driver problem. However since it prints only B/W when operated at the printer menu itself - say by printing the diagnostics page from the pinter keyboard - it has only just dawned on me that it cannot be a driver problem. Attempts so far: The firmware has been replaced with a 2014 version.A cold reset has been performed. The black toner cartridge has been replaced - it was almost finished anyway. The other cartridges are more than half full. All cartridges have been taken out and put back. The formatter assembly has been pulled out and put back firmly. These measures produced no change. An engine test was performed and the output sheet did print colored lines - but still no color otherwise.  It is an old printer but still produced beautiful output until this hiccup. Any advice on what to do next would be appreciated.

Further to this post. Printing of color is intermittent. I turn the printer on one day and there is color, another day no color. Today the first printing had color, subsequent printing no color. Nothing was changed in the configuration. Would one of the HP experts just point me in the right direction. PLEASE.

  • How can I print without color?

How can I print without my color cartridge in my printer, I have a HP Deskjet 3510. I cant find only print in black in white in the setting on my printer.

    Hi,
Actually we call it as Grayscale. But Grayscale is a mixture of all colors. If you only wish to print Black & White only, you need to set "Black Ink only" as default. Please try:
The setup may vary from printer to printer but basically (for Windows):
    (a) Double click printer icon on desktop,
    (b) Click Set Preferences,
    (c) Click Advanced,
    (d) Select "Black Ink only" for Print in Grayscale
    (e) Click Ok/Apply ...
    Regards.

  • Why did Adobe neuter Photoshop CS5?

    Hi folks,
Ive been using Photoshop since v2.5.1 over 15 years ago and it's been an amazing product, each new iteration bringing forth new and wonderful additions to the tool kit ... BUT... with the latest upgrade things seem to have gone awry.
A number of functions I've been used to have mysteriously changed, moved or been completely obliterated from the program and Im starting to wonder if my upgrade payment has actually landed me with a product that is going to make my productivity worse!
Ive only had the upgrade installed for a week but already I've noticed the following issues, some minor (and fixable) and some major:
    1. Scanning - I can no longer from within Photoshop scan documents and photos to begin work. Why the hell would this feature be removed? Its unbelievable! I dont have to open a new program to spell check my Word documents.
    2. Export to PDF (Presentation) - a fantastic option I have used for YEARS to take a load of files Ive produced, knock them out into a PDF in the correct order and am able to print standalone or forward to others. Now gone. Ive read the forum and the use of Bridge but why? Was it taking up too many pixels on the menu? I cant fathom why its been removed - can someone actually give an honest answer?
    3. Default keyboard keys changed - For instance pressing R used to give me instant access to Smudge, Blur etc which in retouch is quite useful to have on hand - in the latest edition of PS it suddenly kicks into touch the Rotate View tool - something I have never heard of or used before. Yes I have fixed it by changing the hotkey settings but why oh why change a steadfast option and point it to a new feature?
Im sure there are many more I will unearth over the coming weeks and for the improvements I am grateful (eg: settings defaults for layer styles instead of always having SCREEN and YELLOW selected for Glows) but Id really like to know what the ethos behind such changes is as it is at the detriment to the users who pay a pretty penny to purchase your software to use in a professional and commercial capacity.
Maybe I am being pretentious with this post but I genuinely look forward to upgrading software to see what improvements and additions have been incorporated - this is the first time I have encountered an application that has been bait and switched on me. Great new features heralded whilst legacy stalwarts are quietly killed in the background.
    Kind regards,
    R.

    Things change.
Adobe changes things that don't really need changing so they can call it a new .0 version and sell it for a bunch of money.  They also change things to follow modern trends in UI design.
Sometimes, they want to push other tools to do some of the things Photoshop used to do.  This is so they can make even more money by selling more products!
Have you been through every intermediate version, or are you making a several version jump?  I ask because the total amount of change in each .0 version has been manageable.  And I personally feel the changes have been worth the money, though perhaps just barely.  That's the key in business.

  • Why did Adobe Premiere have a "critical-hiccup" when I opened Photoshop?

    Hello,
I'm using a Windows 7 Toshiba Satellite with 4GB RAM and 500GB HDD.
I downloaded Adobe Premiere Pro CC, Adobe Media Encoder, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop.
I was using Premiere to make a video for work. I have a strict deadline and a very slow internet connection, yet I wanted a high quality editing software that can help me get the job done.
I imported my own graphics, animations, etc. And I realized I made a tiny flaw with one of the graphics at the very end of the video. No big deal right? Open up photoshop, make a slight adjustment, reimport it.
I opened Photoshop while Premiere remained open on a separate window. Finished my photoshop graphic, saved it under a new name. Went back to Premiere, and found out my audio was no longer playing. After confirming that it wasn't my speakers, settings, or preferences, I decided to look at my task manager to see if it was a RAM issue. 1GB used by Premiere, but I know I've allocated my PC to handle it with ease. Closed all windows, opened up Premiere and I got this:
[Please Uninstall and Reinstall the Product..blah blah blah...error 16]
Tried opening Illustrator, same thing. Media Encoder, same thing, photoshop, same thing. Tried to uninstall it and reinstall it (Which took forever on my connection), same issue. Uninstalled and reinstalled CC, same thing. Tried to follow this guide :https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/configuration-error-cs5.html
And found that the SLStore Folder doesn't even exist, nor does Adobe PCD...
So now I'm in a bit of a pickle. I can't use Sony Vegas because it can't support more than 32 files at one time. And none of my Adobe Products are working (And I just downloaded it 2 days ago :/) So I'm left with the task to make a high-end video, without software to do it. We all know Windows Movie Maker isn't going to Cut it.
Does anyone know why this happened or how I can fix it?
And will I have to redo my entire movie editing if I saved the file, saved the copy and placed the copy in my documents?
    Any help will be appreciated.

Is that a laptop, and does it have dual graphics?
Go to the Windows Control Panel and select Hardware and Sound and then select Device Manager... In Device manager you click the + sign to the left of Display Adapters... and see if 2 are listed
