Why do resized smaller projects become so blurry

Hello,
Why, when resizing a project smaller, do both the text and
graphics end up smaller. I'm also scratching my head about why the
text in the text captions doesn't scale down with the rest of the
project. It ends up looking freakishly large in comparison, forcing
a redo on the text size across the board. But more importantly, the
whole project takes on a blur, which doesn't make sense since you
are reducing the image -- logic says quality shouldn't drop on a
down -- and the file actually ends up being larger than the
original, despite its reduced pixel dimensions.
So why the blur?
Thanks

Hi Yogambo
Blurring occurs because of the inherent way Bitmap (or
Raster) images are constructed. Essentially, these are nothing more
than a collection of colored dots. The dots are referred to as
PixEls. (a contraction of Picture Elements)
If you shrink a bitmapped image, the computer has to
recalculate what colors the dots are, because essentially some are
being removed. The result of this is that the clarity begins to
suffer.
As for why the text in captions doesn't get scaled down,
there are options that you can set to tell Captivate to leave those
elements alone when resizing. Odds are, this option told Captivate
to leave the Captions as is.
Cheers... Rick

  • PSE7 ~ I'm inserting a .jpg image into a project, need to resize smaller and it ends up blurry!

    Please help!
I am creating a birthday invitation for my daughter using PSE7.  I found a few .jpeg images on the web that I want to use.  The images should be okay size-wise (a 66kb image) when I try to insert this image onto the invitation (size of the invite is 5x7) - image takes up maybe 1/6th of overall invitation.  When I insert this image into the project, it is HUGE.  I need to resize it to reduce, but when I do for some reason it becomes very blurry.  I can't figure this out!  At the very least a 66kb image should be able to be inserted onto this 5x7 invitation as a 1" square and be crisp at that size??  Ugghh!
I hope I am being clear in my request...the image in question is pictured below.  When this image is inserted into my PSE project, it would be about 2" high on a 5"x7" invitation...
Also, when I save the whole invitation as a jpg for printing, it's only 120kb file size...shouldn't it be much larger?  Am I missing a global setting somewhere that's messing everything up??  Many thanks in advance to anybody offering suggestions...

You're thinking in the wrong terms. You need to be focusing more on ppi (pixels per inch) rather than the file size in KB. Start by  making sure your main image is at 300 ppi (you may have to start over from scratch). If the graphics are now way too small when you bring them in, remove them and try a lower resolution, but you don't want to go below about 220 usually (it depends on your printer how low you can go and get away with it).
Go to Image>Resize>Image size to check your invite's ppi, but my guess is that you started at something like 72 ppi. If you did, I'd start over, unless you have enough pixels that when you change the ppi to 300 (with Resample Image turned OFF) it's still large enough.

  • Why is the small text blurry on photoshop?

why is the small text blurry on photoshop? i am **** a very small advert for a newspaper! and the text is printing blurry and when zoomed in is appearing all blurry? how do i stop this i only have photoshop and indesign

    c.pfaffenbichler schrieb:
If a vector is intact, no flattening has been done. I don't talk about PDF layers, they are a complete different thing. When flattening is done no form or text survives as live vector or live text.
The pdf is X-1, so there are no Layers or transparencies in it, but the text is searchable still.
So I guess you are correct in that no flattening has happened, rather Photohop embedded two images in the pdf and clipped the one with the type.
Exaclty, whe a pDF X1 or 3 is created transparency is flattened and here it can come to unwanted rasterizing of vectors.
How will you create the correct boxes for bleed and crop in Photoshop?
For a newspaper add those will probably be irrelevant as bleed is hardly necessary.
Not at all, it is much easier to assamble files in a greater layout if all boxes are correct.
You know it good enough that this is not the right tool for that task?
Indesign is definitely the preferable tool for the task at hand, but claiming Photoshop cannot output type except pixelated was not proper.
I think in a forum we should not support the use of wrong tools but we have to show the best way to do things correct.
And there are also problems which cannot avoided with higher knowledge like coloured black (not in this ad). Yes, you an me we are capable to shift around the known problems with ads created in Photoshop, but others don't know these problems and will crash.

  • What is the process for resizing a project (smaller)?

Hi, I have a project that I've been working on that is 960 x 600. On some screens, my progress bar at the bottom gets cut off. I'd like to make it a little shorter to compensate for this. In Photoshop, I would just resize the canvas a little. It doesn't seem like Captivate has an option like that.
The best idea I can come up with is creating a new project with proper dimensions, creating new blank slides, and copying the content from the current project and pasting it into the new (smaller) project. Is that the best way?
It also occurs to me that the .htm file that Captivate creates leaves a this white border on the left and top of my project (7 pixels each direction). I wonder if I can get rid of that??
Luckily, my project is small, only seven slides.
    Thanks for any advice!

You can get rid of the white border entirely by putting some CSS code into the HEAD of the Captivate HTM template used to publish your movie.
    The code looks like this:
    <style>body {margin:0px;}</style>
Place this code just before the </head> tag in the relevant template at:  C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 5\Templates\Publish
If you're not using SCORM, the template here is called standard.htm
If using SCORM, open the SCORM folder at this location and find your 1.2 or 2004 template.
That should give you an extra bit of room to play with and it looks a lot cleaner too when the movie goes edge to edge.

  • Is there a way of working collaboratively on a flex project with a small project group?

Is there a way of working collaboratively on a flex project with a small project group?
I am part of a small group of developers who wish to work on a single flex project together. Is there a way to set up flex so that the project can be developed by multiple people at the same time. I have seen one thread out on the internet about working locally and then uploading to SVn but this is not an option in this case.
    Any ideas.
    Many thanks in advance
    Dave

I would say that rushing into development without a source-control system will cost you more in the long-run. If your organisation is serious about developing software it then it needs to invest in the necesary infrastructure, so you should get that process kicked-off as soon as possible.
In the interim you could set-up a source control server on one developer's machine or commandeer a spare machine to use as a temporary source control server. Just make sure you have it backed-up regularly. Or you could use one of the online source control services; many will support private repositories for a small fee.

  • SEEKING IDEAS FOR A SMALL PROJECT

I am planning to do a small project in JAVA programming this winter to hone my JAVA skills but I can't seem to set my eyes on anything.
please recommend a few good projects along with their descriptions.
It should also have some practical aspect.

Or a solitaire, you know, that balls-in-holes thing.:) What kind of solitaire have you been playing?? :D
    @OP:
A small project I sugest is something you can learn much on some technology out there. At the end you need to know these technologies to get (a better) job.
Some cool technologies I have seen out there at the moment are Hibernate, Struts, Spring, etc. But trying to learn these technolgies does not mean you have to make somethng that makes sense in the end of the day, but just something to learn how thing work ... in short something to play with.
Further and cooler technologies out there (not hard to say) involve no codeing at all. Take Ant, Cruise Control, Maivem, etc. This are all technologies that will teach you how to set up a project, and believe me you could be needing those when coming to work somwhere.
Also very intristing to play with there are JUnit, JMeter (NFR Testing). I Guess you heared about the first one, the other one I only got to know recently, and believe me it is very noce to know how to work.
In short my above comments mean do not just start doing a project right forward unless you still do not know anything on J2SE, in which case again I would sugest for you to create your own set of example on IO, Sockets, RMI, Swing, etc. But learn technologies. No one cares to see in your CV, "I did a personal project that does so and so" unless the so and so is something realted with NASA. But everyone is interested in having someone that say "I know this technology and the other"
However, if you decide to ignore all the above of my comments and still want to do your own project, then my sugestion is at least read UML, and build a class diagram first. At least you would learn something on program design as well.

  • Can I break up a video project into smaller projects using prel 10?

I've created a large video project in prel 10 ( the 0s is win7). I want to break it up into smaller new video projects so I don't lose all my existing assembly and editing work. Can I do this and if so how? Thanks

Keep the original project and  do a "save as" with a different name for each individual project and just delete what you don't want from each smaller project.

  • Combining many small projects into one large project/executable - avoid VI conflicts

I have multiple small projects that have been done, and oru customer now wants them combined into a single executable, where you'd select which program you want to run and have it be launched. My initial thought was no big deal, create a new VI on which the user selects which program to run, and I just call that main.vi for whichever particular program they selected.
    But wait, not so fast.
As soon as the particular smaller programs' main VIs are placed on a block diagram of a VI in this master project, all their dependencies are loaded into the project. Well, a lot of these smaller projects have typedefs with the same name, or even classes with the same name because they were all developed separately. It could be a mess and very time consuming to resolve all these conflicts right now.
I was thinking of doing something "plugin-like" where I include the smaller main VIs in the install, in some folder on disk, and they get called dynamically. Would this work? I have never tried it. Is there a better way?
There is also the idea of shipping multiple executables, and my "master program" calls a particular one using a command line prompt to run the exe.
    Thoughts and suggestions appreciated.

Another option which should be simple in theory is setting up each project to build its VI as a packed library instead of an EXE. That way, all the VIs it calls should be fully namespaced and included and you can statically call the main VI in each packed library in your master project.
I have no practical experience with this, but it will mean that single EXE will now have to load copies of all the shared VIs.
Hm, this may work. I think I will take the exe approach for now and can adjust as necessary. Either way it's no different for the programmer, they still have to do two builds if a VI changes (the small project, then the main one). The separate exe's also solve the issue of config files which may or may not have the same names I can't remember. This way they are all in their own data directories instead of one top level data directory which could cause issues post-install.

  • Why do certain web pages become corrupted even after I re-install Firefox even when I don't save my bookmarks?

Why do certain web pages become corrupted even after I re-install Firefox even when I don't save my bookmarks?

    cor-el,
Yes, I will....the next time it happens. In the past it has happened to AOL a number of times (which is usually my home page), as well as some Yuku message boards I visit...The History Channel A&E, Spike TV, all at various times.
Unfortunately, this morning when it happened to one of the Yuku message board, I went directly to the tool bar, cleared my cache and cookies, without capturing a screenshot. Now , everything I've bookmarked is working properly but I will tell you it's a problem that I only experience on Firefox and not any other browsers, even when I've imported bookmarks from Firefox. It's been a fairly consistent problem for the past 6 months or so where I manually uninstalled, reinstalled Firefox (my preferred browser) and again, manually started bookmarking my sites all over again. It seems that when it happens most of the icons, graphics and photographs are missing, leaving me with only disorganized text.
The next time that it occurs, I will take a screen shot and forward it to you.
Thanks for you interest and help.

  • Small pictures become pixelated

In apps such as Adium and Twitteriffic, some of the small icons become very pixelated. Any suggestions on how to fix it?

Some applications create their own previews which do not display well in Cover Flow.
Cover Flow is designed to use other applications' previews if they are provided, and some developers have not yet matched up their previews with CF.
If you go to the individual application and disable its "Save Preview" function, then Cover Flow will create the preview and it will display more accurately.
If you have an image that is not displaying correctly, open it and save with a different name and without a preview.

Why cant I preview Project files in Outlook 2013 ?

    Hello,
Because there is no Outlook previewer available for MPP files. Typically Outlook only has previewers for default office applications.

  • Dreamweaver CS5 slows to unusable and stops responding with small project.

    Hi,
    Version: CS5
    Operating System: Windows 7
    Processor 3Ghz Dual core
    RAM: 4GB
I've recently developed a problem with my Dreamweaver CS5.
I have a very small project (currently 1 html file, 1 css file and some assets in folders) but opening this project makes Dreamweaver run at a crawl. Any time you click on anything you have to wait at least 10 seconds for it to respond. It also displays not responding at the top of the page.
However, if you manage to navigate to another project then it speeds right back up again! I have tried clearing all of the cache files from User>AppData>Roaming>Adobe>DreamweaverCS5>en_US but this made no difference. I've restarted the computer too. Nothing.
Any ideas how to fix this, because it makes this project unworkable.
Many thanks in advance for your help,
    Anthony

    Hi Curtis,
    Thanks for your reply!
After trying what you suggested I initially had complete success, everything worked fine. But when I moved my assets over it slowed to a grinding hault again. However, in doing so I managed to find the cause of what was making it so slow.
The background image for one of my divs was semi-transparent .png file that was 1px by 1px. I think that the Dreamweaver crashed trying to render the div because it was having to render so many copies of this pixel. I'm going to try making an image in photoshop that is maybe 10px by 10px or bigger and tile that instead. Hopefully this will solve my problem.
I'm not sure if this is the same issue you that you were having, but I figured it might be useful to know anyway.
Thank you again for your help.
    Regards,
    Anthony
