Why does Firefox stop opening new browser windows when "Sync" is running?

I downloaded and installed Firefox Sync v1.4 to my Firefox v.3.6.10
While Sync is running, Firefox will not open a new window when I do any of the following:
* Click "New Window" from the File menu.
* Click "Open in a new window" from right-clicking a tab.
* Click a link with JavaScript to open the target in a new window.
No error messages, just no action. I updated Sync to the newest version 1.5 but the problem still exists. Disabling either version in the Add-ons window "fixed" the problem. Is there a setting that causes this problem? Are others experiencing this same problem?

Firefox 3.5 versions and later have a feature called tear-off tabs.<br />
You can detach a tab from the current window and open it in a new window by dragging a tab in the browser window.<br />
You can drag that tab back to the tab bar in the original window to undo that detaching.

  • Why does Firefox keep opening new Windows rather than a new Tab in the current window?

I have " Open a new Tab in the current Window" select in Preferences.
Why then does this version (Version 4) keep opening new Windows, rather than new Tabs in the current Window.
This feature worked fine in 3.6.1.3, but in Version 4, it is a frigging pain in the rigging!
C'mon, Mozilla - time for an URGENT update ...

That issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.

  • Why does Firefox repeatedly open new tabs when I open a .php file?

    Hey guys!
I do web development and design. I've just set up my PC (Ubuntu 14.04 LTS) and installed my choice of software.
On the .php files I set Firefox as the default software to open with but now it opens about 50 odd tabs in the space of 3 seconds. How do I fix this?
    Kind regards,
    -Trey

You've hit a bug that happens when you set Firefox as the external "helper" application used to open a type of file (the "Warning!" paragraph [http://kb.mozillazine.org/File_types_and_download_actions#Setting_an_automatic_action here] links to the related bug reports, if you're interested).
See [[Firefox repeatedly opens empty tabs or windows after you click on a link]] for how to fix this.

  • Any way to open new browser window without using image maps?

Is there any way to open new browser window without using image maps? My code works fine in Firefox, but not in IE. There are 2 problems in IE: 1st is that the thumbnail images move up within their own borders & 2nd that when you click on an image it does open up a new browser window, but also redirects to the index page (in this case it's just a placeholder index page - the new one I've called index_new.html for the time being).
    Here is the link:
    http://www.susieharperdesigns.com/gallery_beads.html
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Your missing a value on the HREF.  In your code you have this:
    <area shape="rect" coords="-24,-9,106,144" href=" " onclick="MM_openBrWindow('gallery_bead1.html','','width=255,height=360')" />
    </map></div>
    and it should be this:
    <area shape="rect" coords="-24,-9,106,144" href="javascript:void()" onclick="MM_openBrWindow('gallery_bead1.html','','width=255,height=360')" />
    </map></div>
If you fix the code on all your beads, it should work.

  • In the home page why does Firefox say I haven't upgraded when I have. This has been going on for over three weeks, I am now on 9 and still it says I have not upgraded.

In the home page why does Firefox say I haven't upgraded when I have. So I upgrade again and still it says I haven't next time I log on. Today I upgraded to 9, it said congratulations on upgrading, I log off then log back on only to be told yet again I need to upgrade. What is going on?

  • Why does Firefox keep hanging, crashing, sulking, dying when internet connection behaves?

Why does Firefox keep hanging, crashing, sulking, dying when internet connection behaves? Once it renders the page it should forget about the page. Why does it behave when some link is clicked when there is no internet? It should just say internet not available or some crap. Why die, sulk, crash?? I don't get it! 3 series was much much much better!

I should add, I've re-downloaded Firefox, but that doesn't look like it has helped any. Still get seemingly inexplicable crashes.

  • Why does firefox not open the address in the browser window via dvd@ccess?

I am building a dvd with dvd studio 4 latest version on a brand new MB Pro / Snow Leapard. dvd@ccess is enabled in dvd studio pro 4 as well as on my computer. The function opens a browser window, but firefox does NOT automatically type in the required address. Therefore the browser does not look it up. This is not likely related to dvd studio pro, since dvd@ccess links to mailto: with no problem, and entourage correctly opens a new mail with the proper address. Please help. Fast – I am supposed to deliver a project! Thanks ;-)

Ok, well I found it quickly without really finding the source of the problem. I created my account here in order to post this problem, and when I received the account confirmation email to activate my account, clicking the hotlink opened a browser window WITHOUT the address! So I restarted firefox and lo and behold, I could confirm my account via the hotlink and dvd@ccess now works, even in the dvd studio pro simulator. Why this bug appeared remains to be answered. Thanks and good luck.

  • Send e-mail action sometimes opens new browser window w/error

In a captivate 5 tutorial, to encourage feedback, I've added a click box with the action to send email. On Preview and Publish, this does open a new message in Outlook (if I have Outlook open) but sometimes it also opens a new browser window with the message "Navigation to the web page was canceled". Anyone have ideas on why this is occurring and how it can be avoided? Thank you.

  • Opening new browser window from View Library links

On some of the documentation pages, e.g. http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/ias.html , a new browser window is opened using target=new_win in the HTML code. This window will be re-used if the user goes back and clicks on another, similar link. It's better to use target=_blank for this purpose, because that would ensure that a new browser window is opened every time.

You would have to a) swap the image, and b) expose a
    previously hidden layer
that superimposes the image with a transparent GIF on which
    the onClick
    behavior has been applied.

  • Open New Browser Window in CS4 opens behind existing window - HELP!

I am creating a website in CS4, and everything works fine EXCEPT ona few pages, for every link I have set up to open in a new browser window, the new window opens BEHIND the existing window, so that you cannot see it. I tried one solution that said to type "javascript:;" in the href (link) box, but that did not correct the problem. Any ideas?
    Thanks.

Sounds like you have Tabbed browsing enabled.

  • Why does Firefox not open the link in an email message?

Since upgrading to 3.6.10 (at least I think since then) Firefox no longer opens the urls in email messages when I click on them. Firefox becomes active, but then nothing happens. How can I rectify this? I use mail.app, on Mac OS 10.6.5.

  • Open new browser window from a JApplet

    Hi,
I want to open a new browser window from a JApplet. My first thought was to use the Live Connect technology but it worked only with simple applets not with JApplets. Then i tried it by getting the Applet context (getAppletContext() method) but it still didn't work with JApplet...(it worked with Applet).I believe it has something to do with the applet security but i haven't yet figured it out.
For example when i call the getAppletContext() method from a JApplet i get an java.security.AccessControlException ... .Thanks

I must correct myself now :).
The getAppletContext() method does work with JApplets too.Still , i have problems with the Live connection alternative. It seems that it by importing the netscape.javascript package i get the security eror that i mention above...

  • JavaScript to open new browser window

I have an intranet page from which users can select various
Captivate 2 movies. When they select the link I use a simple
JavaScript function to open an appropriately sized window to run
the movie in, as they are of various sizes and some so large I need
to do away with toolbars and the like.
To save the users having to return to the Intranet page to
open another movie I want to offer them a button at the end of a
movie which would have the same effect - open a new browser window
appropriately sized for the particular movie they choose.
This should be easy: create a button, choose Execute
JavaScript and put the script in the box. Only it doesn't work.
Scouring the forums I found a few potential answers, of which
the most promising seemed to be to put the function in the
standard.js file that Captivate 2 creates and then call the
function from the Execute JavaScript dialogue. I also tried putting
the function into the HTML that is created when the Captivate is
    published. Also didn't work.
I've tried various permutations in the Execute JavaScript
dialogue too. Do I or do I not need to preface the line with
javascript: or javascript:function? I tried all options without
    success.
It would help my nerves if every time I republish a new
    attempt it didn't overwrite standard.js!
If I could solve this I could also probably solve my other
requirement to close the browser window when the movie stops - I
gave up on that last year as not being worth the effort.
Any help will be very gratefully received.

    Hi again
    Loved your statement:
The more one learns the more one discovers one doesn't know!
A former co-worker once shared this with me. It was shared
with him by a former college professor. It's quite amazing when you
think about it. I refer to it as
    The Circle of Knowledge
Draw a small circle on a piece of paper. Everything that fits
inside the circle represents your total knowledge of any given
field. The edge of the circle represents everything
    you are currently
    aware of that you
    don't know about it.
Now let's assume you learn a vast amount about the subject.
Just look at how large your circle has become! But look at the
other effect. Look at how much more
    you are currently
    aware of that you
    don't know about it.
If you would like to ship something my way, I'll be happy to
see if it runs without issue on my PC or if I see what you are
seeing. If not, that's cool too. Just thought I'd toss out the
offer. rstone75 (at) kc (dot) rr (dot) com. Address intentionally
altered in order to obfuscate scammers.
