Why does entire rt.jar get loaded into memory?

We're developing under JDK 1.4-beta2 and are close to releasing to in-house use of our application. One thing noticed is that the entire rt.jar and other jars get loaded into memory equalling ~45MB !! I am amazed if this is 'normal' behaviour. Are we missing some tweak or option grossly obvious or well known?
Even a simple Hello World test program loads in the entire rt.jar.
HELP!!

• Why does my infrared custom white balance not load into Lightroom or CameraRaw?

The preview shows the correct WB, but the full render removes WB and any monochromatic color profiles.
Correct WB that I want. As seen from back of camera
Once the full preview loads. DO NOT WANT.
White balance is at 2000, the coolest it can go. I cannot recreate the custom WB that is in camera. I can make all of the B&W, but I want the custom WB so I can do a proper channel mix in PS.
Thank you for any help.

You can use the DNG Profile Editor to add a negative bias to the WB settings in an existing camera profile and save it as a new profile (for IR) so you can adjust the effective WB lower than 2000K:
http://stevencastle.wordpress.com/2010/07/17/processing-infrared-shots-in-adobe-camera-raw /
It still won’t pick up what the camera did, but you can adjust things lower, at least.
If this one page doesn’t make sense Google for (DNG Profile Editor IR white balance)

why does that entire thread goes to sleep when we put a wait function in time critical loop but not when it is not time critical

in a RT system, priorities have (in general) increased effect on the execution of the application.
It is recommended that you only have a single task in your RT program at "time critical". If you have two task "time critical" (that means you are running into issues caused by your quoted "feature"), you have a flaw in your application architecture.
Since LV 7.1, it is recommended to work with Timed Loops in order to prioritize tasks on a RT system. Timed Loops are executed on priorities between "time critical" and "above normal". Each Timed Loop will execute its content in a single thread in order to keep a good overview of the timing (like finished late [i-1]). Using those structures (and according settings) in a reasoned manner will prevent your RT system to run into priority issues.

You will have a real hard time to go into this very deep. This is the feature of LV: you can just use multithreading (multicores) without the needed knowledge of scheduling and load balancing. This makes LV programming in general very easy in comparison to e.g. ANSI C (in regard of multithreading). So creation of threads, distribution of tasks to the threads are abstracted and most often not visible to the programmer.
There are some switches and levers you can "play around" in order to make LV to behave differently in this matter. But this most often requires  deep LV knowledge and cannot be explained in a simple posting.....
hope this helps,
Norbert
Amen to that!
The question can not be fully answered without digging into the internals of the OS LV is run on because LV works with the OS and lets it do the scheduling.
Yes that note applies to pre- LV 7 RT. When run under RT the ONE Time Critical loop was guarenteed to stay determinisitic.
Since then the Timed Loop was introduced that allowed multiple levels of priority and later allowed us to assign which CPU the code would run on.

Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu.  Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order.  If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time (>=70,) then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar.  Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process.  See if that helps.  Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.

Why Does IT Take SOOOOO Long To Get New Shows And Podcast Updates!!!!! It seems to me that it takes and unusually long time for TV shows to be uploaded to itunes and it takes FOREVER (VH1) to get Podcast updates. Also I notice that Vh1's Best Week Ever is a hit or miss deal. Some weeks it's on iTunes and some weeks it's not......why?

The iTunes store simply provides a link to the originating podcast server.
When the podcast owner puts a new episode up, it is available.

• Why does the elements 13 change resolution when going into the editor -- it is huge and unusable

why does the elements 13 change resolution when going into the editor? -- it is huge and unusable

Many mysteries...
Which is your OS version ?
Your screen is 1920 by 1080 pixels.
The problem appeared after having worked normally.
When we select a picture from the organizer (album) and click on the edit button.  The editor software changes the entire computer resolution from 1920 x 1080 to   640 x 480 (very unusable).
That's not clear for me: did you click on the 'Edit' button on the bottom right part of the organizer, or did you use the menu or the right click popup menu to open the editor? In the second case, you are in the editor workspace.
We tried right clicking on the Elements 13 icon, select properties and under compatibility we made sure that "run in 640 x 480 screen resolution" was de-selected, and it was.    Cannot find any properties window for the editor?
The editor has its properties in the 'Edit/preferences' menu, but there is nothing about resolution there.
Just to be sure : when you are in the organizer with the left 'Folders' panel shown, you highlight one of those pictures to edit. Then you right click and choose to "go to folder". Do the images are shown as 'offline' ? If that is the case, the original are on an external drive which is not connected, and what you are seeing is a 'preview' copy on your computer with 640 x 480 resolution.

Why does a mail-merge in MS Publisher split into multiple files when printed as a pdf file?

'Cuz that's what mail merges do.  They create multiple documents based on the parent doc and all the names/addresses in your data tables.
Perhaps if you describe exactly what you're trying to do & why you need PDF, we can point you to relevant tutorials.

• Why does LR name my images "Edit8bit" When opening into Photoshop?

I have preferences>external editing>Bit Depth set to 16 bits/component.  So why when I open my images is the file name saying they are 8 bit?  Photoshop shows them as "RGB/16".  The image mode shows 16 bit inside of photoshop.
These images start out in Lightroom as 12 or 14 bit RAW (NEF) images.  I'm just concerned that some sort of 8 bit conversion is happening before my images get loaded into photoshop and I am losing some color information in the process?  Am I?
I am currently on LR 5.2 and Photoshop CC 14.1.2  But this has been happening for many versions of LR and Photoshop

What have you got set as the External Editing File Naming scheme, bottom of the External Editing tab in the Lightroom Preferences? That's where the file name is (user) controlled:

• Jar files loading in memory

I have questions
1. Are the jar files specified in classpath of a java program loaded in memory at the jvm startup ?
2. If all the jar files of classpath are not loaded in memory at startup, then say a class pack1.MyClass needs to be loaded (instantiated) from a jar file say myclasses.jar - in such a case, will myclasses.jar be loaded in memory and remain loaded till the jvm process is on ? Or myclasses.jar is loaded, the class file is extracted and then the jar file is unloaded ?

No. Only class files are loaded in memory.
2. If all the jar files of classpath are not loaded in memory at startup, then say a class pack1.MyClass needs to be loaded (instantiated) from a jar file say myclasses.jar - in such a case, will myclasses.jar be loaded in memory and remain loaded till the jvm process is on ?
Only packk1.MyClass would be loaded in the JAVA heap. Not the JAR file.
However there is no guarantee that the Class file remains loaded for the entire life cycle of the JVM process. Depending on the heap size available classes may be unloaded in a Garbage Collection cycle to make room of new Classes.
Wrong. A class can not be unloaded unless the the class loader is collected by the GC. That means that a Class can actually be unloaded! That's what I said!
The GC will not collect any class, normal java.lang.Class or class loader with active references even if the VM runs out of memory.True. Classes in perm gen and objects in the new and tenured generations get collected/unloaded only when they have no active references and there is a need for a collection cycle. Thats obvious. Did I actually ever say that a class would get unloaded even if it has an active reference? All I meant to say was that there is a possibility that a class gets unloaded and doesn't remain in the Heap for the entire lifecycle of the JVM.
Am I actually getting anything wrong here? Please explain if so.
Thanks

• Help! Help! Help! Why is DPV and LACS not loading into memory ?

Postalsoft Desktop Mailer - load into memory is checked and it does not load into memory,
I tried it unchecked and it is the same speed.
How do I fix this problem?????

Tim,
Please make sure to post any "classic Firstlogic software" questions under the Business Objects Enterprise Information Management (EIM) forum and you will get a much faster response.  Also you can log a case for support by going to the Help and Support tab on the SAP website, then click on Report A Product Error to log a case for support.  Just make sure to choose BOJ-EIM-COM for the component when logging a case for DeskTop Mailer or Business Edition.
Steve is correct.... we are aware of the slow speed issue with address correction when using DPV and LACS in DeskTop Mailer and Business Edition 7.90.  Rev 4 should be out by the end of this week.  This will correct the speed issue.  Please make sure to have the auto update option turned on in the software so you get this update.
Thanks,
Kendra
