Why does iChat reject my correct password?

Hello,
iChat was working last night; however, this morning it couldn't access my gmail account. I keep getting a prompt that says, "iChat can’t log in to [email protected] because your login ID or password is incorrect." However, I'm absolutely sure my password is correct. iChat never asks me for my password to begin with. Also, I tried deleting my account and creating it again, but that didn't work either. I don't understand why this is happening. My friend tried to sign in using her gmail account and iChat didn't reject her password.
Any suggestions?

Hi,
Start with going to the iChat Preferences > Accounts > Server Setting tab (for the Google account)
Is SSL On ?
Is the server name talk.google.com ?
Login to the Google Mail page and check the Password you need to do this.
Also compare the Name you have to use and the one in iChat  (There is a difference in @gmail.com and @googlemail .com)
Open Applications/Utilities and the Keychain Access app.
In here look in Applications and Passwords (lower left) fro the Google ID.
Double click the entry to bring up the Info Panel.
First check the access tab is allowing iChat (All apps or does list iChat as well as your Browser)
Return to the Attributes tab
Place a tick in the Show Password box.  (A dialogue box will appear want the Login password and for you to Confirm (Allow Once ) )
Is the Password now shown the right one ?
Before changing anything go to the Finder > Go Menu > Go to Folder and enter:-
~/Library/Keychains
There should only be one there normally.
If you have more the login one is the one you want.
Highlight it and then do a Get Info (Finder's File Menu)
Check the bottom Ownership and PErmissions tab
Open the Padlock
Click the Cogwheel icon at the bottom
It shoud say "Make (YourShortanme (me) the Owner" in greyed out text if you are the owner.
(You should be in the list as well)
On the right of your name do you have Read and Wirite Permissions ?
If you are not the Owner then make it so.
If you do Not have Read and Write permissions then change that as well.
Try iChat again before changing the Password in the Keychain.
If all the above appear to be correct then go to System Preferences > Network
Click the Advanced Button for your Connection method.
In the DNS tab is anything listed ?
(A greyed out IP of the router does not count.)
If none show  access your Router's settings and manually enter the IPs for DNS server s it lists.
If none show then add 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 to the DNS tab in Network manually.

The ipad won't sync some photos, saying the file can't be read by the ipad, however it will sync some photos taken at the same time which are the same size and file type.  Why does it reject some and accept others?

Hi there. I'm having the same problem: my iPad won't import some photos from a folder, saying that they can't be read. They are all JPEGS and some photos taken at the same time have synched fine, but out of a folder with 200 photos, it only lets me synch 37. I'm synching albums created via Photoshop Elements 6, which has worked fine until now.
I've tried deleting all photos and re-synching, and have also deleted the iPod Photo Cache, but it hasn't made a difference.
The iPad auto-updated to the latest version of iTunes, so maybe that's what's causing it?
    Any advice gratefully received!

  • HT1349 Why does iPhone ask for apple password after rebooting?

Why does iPhone ask for apple password after rebooting? It just started to do that recently. I've had iPhone5 for several months now and it just started to do that.
Before I could reboot without having to type apple ID password to start using my phone.

Could be part of Apple's new security procedures that were implemented this past week.

  • Itunes Store & App Store reject my correct password on iPhone

We have numerous devices iMac, MacBookPro, iPad, iPad Mini, two iphones in our family under the same Apple ID.
Everything is fine except on our iPhone 5 running iOS8.1.2
    -all software is updated
-it signs in to the iCloud fine with our AppleID
-it WILL NOT sign in to "Itunes & App Store"
-it rejects the correct password and keeps asking for it.
    IT IS EXTREMELY ANNOYING!
    -i have restarted
-i have updated password for all devices
    -i have updated software
-i have cleared our ipads of lingering app downloads
-i have signed into iTunes on our iMac and "cleared the cache"
-i have signed out and signed back in to iCloud
    A couple of things:
    -our iCloud storage is full
-this phone has been unlocked by AT&T and we are the second owner.
Please if you have the easy solution i haven't found, I would be very greatful!  Thank you.

    Try a reset:
Hold the home and power buttons at the same time until the Apple boot logo appears. No data will be lost.
If it doesn't work, time for a restore.

    Hi,
iChat uses several port as they are called over the internet to do different things
Text Chats and Video Chats are on different Ports.
You probably don't have the port open.
Use UPnP in your router if it has it.

  • Why does Outlook keep prompting for password

We have seen our community members ask questions about Outlook keeps prompting for credentials many times. This issue could be caused by numerous reasons. Below is a list of the most common reasons for this problem:
Outlook is configured to prompt you for credentials
Incorrect password cached in credential storage
Required Authentication Settings for outgoing server and incoming server
Outlook Anywhere is not configured to use NTLM Authentication
    Corrupt Outlook profile
    Slow or unstable network connection
    Antivirus programs
    Shared calendars
Outlook is configured to prompt you for credentials
If you are using an Exchange account, there is a setting in your Outlook profile to always prompt for logon credentials. To find the setting, please follow:
    1. In Outlook 213, go to File tab > Info >
    Account Settings > Account Settings…
    2. Highlight your Exchange account and click Change button.
    3. Click on More Settings button.
    4. Select the Security tab.
    5. Under the User Identification, make sure the “Always prompt for logon credentials” option is not selected.
If you are using other types of email, please make sure you have ticked the option “Remember password”.
Incorrect credential cached in Credential Manager
Your Windows system stores user credentials on your computer. If the cached credentials are incorrect, you will be prompted for password. This issue usually happens after the password for your domain user account is changed. Before your password changed,
you saved your credentials. The stored credentials are not overwritten when Outlook triggers the authentication prompt even if you enable the Remember my credentials option.
To fix this issue, you need to remove the corrupted credentials, follow these steps:
Click Start,      click Control Panel, and then click Credential Manager.
Note If View by is set to Category, click User Accounts first, and then click Credential Manager.
Locate  the set of credentials that has Outlook in the name.
Click the name to expand the set of credentials, and then click Remove from Vault.
Repeat step 3 for any additional sets of credentials that have the word Outlook in the name.
Required Authentication Settings for outgoing server and incoming server
Different email provider may need different authentication settings. Please make sure you have set the server settings correctly. You can contact your email provider to gather the information.
In general, we select the “My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication” option and the first bullet “Use same settings as my incoming mail server”.
In addition, click on the Advanced tab and check if you have enter the correct Server Port Number and select the correct encrypt type. Below is a screenshot for an IMAP account:
Outlook Anywhere is not configured to use NTLM Authentication
The Outlook Anywhere feature allows you to access your Exchange account remotely from the Internet when you are working outside your organization's firewall.
When using Outlook Anywhere to connect to your Exchange server, we need to choose
the authentication method among Basic Authentication, NTLM Authentication and Negotiate Authentication. The difference among them is the way that the passwords are sent when connecting to the server. With Basic Authentication,
the password is sent in clear text. Using NTLM Authenticationcan significantly reduce the number of password prompts.
To check the authentication setting, please go to File > Account Settings > Account Settings,
select the Exchange account, and then click
Change. In the Change Account wizard, click
More Settings, and then click the Connection tab. Click the Exchange Proxy Settings button and now, you can see the settings under
Proxy authentication settings. Try to change the authentication to
NTLM Authentication and then check the issue again.
    Slow or unstable network connection
If your network connection is slow or unstable, Outlook may lose connection to the mail server. When Outlook try to reconnect, it will prompt for the credentials. To verify this, please switch to a stable network environment and then check if this issue
    persists.
    Corrupt Outlook Profile
Corrupt profile may cause Outlook to no longer remember your password. Please try to create a new mail profile in Control Panel and reconfigure your email account in the new profile to fix the issue. To create a new mail profile, you can refer:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/829918
    Antivirus software
Antivirus software usually integrates into your Outlook and it may cause some conflicts. Try to temporarily turn off your antivirus software to check if the issue will be gone.
    Shared Calendar
Shared calendars can impact the user credentials, this issue may also occur if you have shared calendars opened in Outlook. You can try to unselect the shared calendar to check the result. It’s recommended to not open the shared calendar unless you want
    to view them.

    Nope...
I went through point by point by point, top to bottom, checking and verifying every single item as a possible cause for why my system (Outlook 2013 running on Windows 8.1 and connecting to Exchange 2010) insists on prompting me for my password every single
time I start Outlook.  None of the solutions worked, my system still prompts me.  I don't even have to supply a password.  When the prompt dialog appears, I just cancel it.  Within a few seconds, the bottom Outlook status bar changes to
"Need Password" with a key icon to the left.  Then I just click on that message and immediately Outlook connects to Exchange.
The freaking software is BROKEN!  Period.

  • After update to 10.9 Why does mail always ask for password when opening

I have updated my iMac to 10.9 and now every time I open Mail, I have to type in my password. Does anyone know why or how to fix?

In the iCloud pane of System Preferences, uncheck the box marked Mail and check it again.

  • Why does iChat re-open windows on launch?

Many times when I'm finished using iChat I will quit the application with a number of open chat windows. The next time I open iChat it re-creates those windows again, although they're all empty with none of the text that was in the windows when I quit the app.
Now, I don't WANT that old text; I have no reason to save my chats, but it annoys me to no end that every time I open iChat it brings back those blank windows. If I chose to SAVE all my chats then this might make sense, but since I don't care, why is it doing this? This is the only app I know that behaves like this.
I want to know how I can stop this behavior, so that every time I open iChat there are NO chat windows open at all. Just because I talked to someone yesterday doesn't necessarily mean I'll talk to that person again today. I don't see anything in the preferences to control this, and I don't want to have to close all my windows before quitting; that's ridiculous. Ideas anyone?

    HI,
If you are 10.6.2 I would download and Install th Combo version of the Update over what you have.
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosxv1062updatecomb o.html
In these Blank windows I take it they are listing some reference to the Buddies that were involved as you say those you may have spoken yesterday are not always going to be spoken today (Or something close to that.)
If not, does using Show Participants reveal any other info ?
I may not post again 'til tomorrow my time
