Why does if statement fail to compare string correctly?

I am extracting the third character out of a variable called Gedline and testing to see if it is "@".
     public static String GedLine   = "";
     public static String GedTemp = "";
     System.out.println("GedLine = " + GedLine);
     //Extract 3rd character.
     GedTemp = GedLine.substring(2, 3);
     System.out.println("GedTemp = " + GedTemp);
     //Test 3rd character to see if it = "@".
     if (GedTemp == "@")
        System.out.println("Third char is @");
     else
        System.out.println("Third char is not @");
     }My output shows that GedTemp displays the value "@", but the if statement does not recognize this.
GedLine = 0 @I00004@
GedTemp = @
Third char is not @Can someone explain why this is happening and how I can make it work correctly?

The sort of question I mean usually takes the form, "Hi, I just started taking an entry level course in Java and I want to use an editor to build a medical documentation system using Web 2.0/RESTful web services/AJAX/etc. Should I use NetBeans or Eclipse?"

    Why does the iphone 5 not sync the correct artwork to songs. All the artwork is correct in the itunes 11 library, but when sync'd the iphone arbittary chooses what it wants

    My guess is you are using iTunes Match.
    iTunes Match is a great feature, but I suggest keeping it on only on your computer.  Turn iTunes Match off on your iPhone at Settings > Music > iTunes Match.  Then sync your iPhone and you should get all the artwork.  You may have to sync two or three times to get it all after turning off iTunes Match.

  • Why does Time Machine fail to restore and keep the original file after I have provided my Admin password?

    I'm attempting to recover a group of lost files from Time Machine. The files are backups from a mobile app within User/LibraryMobile Documents/.
    I'm able to find the lost files, but Time Machine failed to restore them after I select 'Keep Both' and then enter my Admin Password. The screen returns to the desktop and the finder window for the file I'm trying to recover, but nothing else happens.
    I hope someone can help.

  • Why does importing accounts fail in OS X Server?

    I have installed OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.4 and Server 2.2.1 and tried to import user accounts again and again, but it always fails. The only thing that the console log says is "Date Time - Number of Args = X" and it says no more.
    I'm trying to work through the Peachpit Press exercises and, according to their example, there should be seven accounts imported in the first exercise of the chapter and the log files should look something like this:
    2012-10-16 10:20:45 CDT - Number of Args = 17
    2012-10-16 10:20:45 CDT - ======= Tool Parser Arguments ======
    2012-10-16 10:20:45 CDT - File path = /Users/ladmin/Documents/StudentMaterials/Lesson08/employees-tabdelimited.txt
    2012-10-16 10:20:45 CDT - OD Node Path = /Local/Default
    2012-10-16 10:20:45 CDT - Username = Local Admin
    2012-10-16 10:20:45 CDT - User password was supplied
    2012-10-16 10:20:45 CDT - Duplicate handlin option = I
    2012-10-16 10:20:45 CDT - Remote net
    ... etc.
    I've formatted the volume and installed OS X fresh several times. I would think this is something that should work and that many administrators would need. Anyone out there able to successfully import user accounts to OS X Mountain Lion? Or is everyone typing in accounts one by one? Any ideas? I'm relatively new to Mac, so feel free to give me the obvious (to you) troubleshooting tips and lay things out in über simple terms.
    Thanks in advance for any help.

    So I see from your screen shot that you are only defining 7 attributes. I've never been able to do this with anything less than 8.  Also, your format declarative statement contains 0x09 in the third place.  I've always used 0x3A to define the formating and this has always worked.  Here is a sample using 8 attributes: Record name (shortname), unique ID (this is NOT GUID), primary group ID, Real Name, home directory path (needed from mobile account), shell (needed for ftp access), first name, and last name.
    Also, this file format is very sensitive to line breaks.  Make sure that your file has Unix breaks.  If I recall Mac line breaks will cause issues.
    The file declaration must all be on the first line with no return characters.  After the format string (0x0A 0x5C 0x3A 0x2C), you define the record type (dsRecTypeStandard:Users or dsRecTypeStandard:Groups), then the number of records.  In this case 8.  If you add more attributes, remember to increase this number to match the number of attributes.
    0x0A 0x5C 0x3A 0x2C dsRecTypeStandard:Users 8 dsAttrTypeStandard:RecordName dsAttrTypeStandard:UniqueID dsAttrTypeStandard:PrimaryGroupID dsAttrTypeStandard:RealName dsAttrTypeStandard:NFSHomeDirectory dsAttrTypeStandard:UserShell dsAttrTypeStandard:FirstName dsAttrTypeStandard:LastName
    jdoe:1030:20:John Doe:/Users/jdoe:/bin/bash:John:Doe
    msmith:1031:20:Mary Smith:/Users/msmith:/bin/bash:Mary:Smith
    Hope this helps you sort this out.

  • WHY DOES BATCH MONITOR FAIL EVERY TIME SINCE LATEST OSX UPDATE?

    I cannot get anything out of FCP5 into compressor without BM saying failed as server application quit unexpectedly!!!!????
    This is supposed to be a commercial professional set of tools and so much of the time they just do not work!!!
    Why is the BBC giving up Avid etc and moving down to FCP and compressor etc??
    Sorry for the moan, I am at the point of throwing my G5away in frustration at this point.
    Tom

    Same is happening here.
    I've tried the Pro-Apps update and trashed the files as instructed but Compressor's Batch Monitor quits unexpectedly.
    Ahhh this is really frustrating, am on a tight deadline and really need it to work.
    Weird thing is that once its quit its seems to still process the files, which is a worry as I can't trust the quality of what its doing. My client is going to kill me!
    Apple sort your "Pro" apps out, they need to be reliable!

  • Why does this script fail with OS X Lion?

    The following AppleScript has been woorking just fine ronning Snow Leopard. Under Lion only the first site is loaded and the other Safari tabs are Untitled. Does anyone know what is wrong and how do I fix it? Thanks for any help.
    Hugh

              tell window 1 to set current tab to make new tab with properties {URL:"http://www.appleinsider.com/"}
    end tell

    Does anyone know what is wrong and how do I fix it?
    Actually, I don't know why your script fails with Mac OS X Lion. I can only suggest the following workaround, which seems to work properly:
    set myURLs to {"http://www.macworld.com/", "http://www.macnn.com/", "http://reviews.cnet.com/macfixit/?tag=mfiredir", "http://www.macintouch.com/", "http://arstechnica.com/apple/", "http://www.appleinsider.com/"}
    open location "http://www.macrumors.com/"
    tell application "Safari"
        activate
        tell window 1 to repeat with thisURL in myURLs
            set current tab to make new tab
            my newTab(thisURL)
        end repeat
    end tell
    on newTab(theURL)
        tell application "System Events"
            keystroke "l" using command down
            keystroke theURL & return
        end tell
    end newTab

  • Why does Reader say "Failed to initialize"?

    Trying to install Reader 10 on a Windows XP SP3 system.  During installation, I'm getting an error message that reads "Installation encountered errors" and "Failed to initialize".
    I tried uninstalling older versions of Reader still on my system, but no change.  I reinstalled Reader 8 from a CD, and that doesn't make any difference, either.  I tried doing a search on "Failed to initialize" on this site, but didn't come up with anything pertinent for Reader.
    Any clues?  Thanks!

    I still don't know why Reader 10 wouldn't install, but I figured out a workaround.  Instead of downloading from Adobe's "preferred" or default site, I instead used this link as suggested in a thread for a different problem:
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
    Downloading from there, I was able to get it installed correctly and Reader 10 works fine.  The only thing I can figure is that whatever program Adobe's default download site uses has an incompatibility with either something on my computer or my browsers.  I'm using both Google Chrome and IE 8, and the same error message happened with both browsers while trying to use Adobe's default site.

  • Why does app mgr "fail to install" when it tries to update itself?

    I have reinstalled the app mgr, as instructed on the CC web site, as it was supposedly corrupted (although it worked fine a couple of hours ago).  Whenever I try to download PS CC, the app mgr goes through trying to update itself and "fails to install," so I can't even begin to download any other app. (Running Windows 7 on a Dell laptop, 64-bit.  I have several CS6 apps.)

    Arpit,
    There is no app mgr in the Control Panel list of programs; it is gone.  (Of
    course, I've purchased the LR 5 upgrade, and it is not on the list either,
    though it is installed, not from the Cloud, and seems to work.)  There is a
    newly downloaded app mgr 7.0 shortcut on my desktop, but it can't find the
    program itself. There's an app mgr updater that runs its course; but since
    the app can't be found, it's hard to know what it is updating.  Trying to
    download anything (even just the Creative Cloud desktop connection) from
    the web site doesn't work--clicking a download button produces nothing at
    all, not even an error message.
    CC Cleaner does not give an option to clean the CC items without also
    working on CS6 apps.  I do NOT want to risk losing or corrupting my various
    CS6 apps or the data associated with them.
    My Cloud files are still fine, but I can't upload anything new or download
    anything that's there.
    There really needs to be a solution to this situation that does not require
    large transfers of data or the risk of losing older (and functioning)
    programs.

  • Why does the state of my fonts change from time to time?

    Every few days/hours I have to go to FontBook and switch fonts off and on to have FileMaker Pro 5.5 behave properly with greek fields.
    I don't understand: if once I've setup my fonts how I want them, why do they change by the next time I fire up FMP 5.5?
    In any case, how can I set up my fonts once, and save them in a collection so that the next time a mess occurs I only have to click on the Collection icon and revert to how I want them? Sort of like clicking on a playlist in iTunes. So far, clicking on Collections I have created doesn't affect the on/off state of fonts.
    Many thanks, as always.

    Hi, Alex.
    Are you running any "maintenance" software that performs a regular system cache cleaning? If so, that will enable fonts you've disabled. See the "How disabled fonts are handled in Font Book 2.0 under Tiger" section of my "Undoing Font Book" FAQ.
    Cache cleaning should not be part of regular maintenance: see my "Maintaining Mac OS X" FAQ. It covers my advice on "regular maintenance" and dispels some common "maintenance myths."
    Good luck!

  • What does error 261 mean and why does iTunes backup fail in version 7.3?

    I made a backup of my purchased music (all single items) in the previous version of iTunes for Windows. Now with version 7.3 for Windows I keep getting error 261:
    After inserting a blank CDRW, CDR, or DVD+RW (all previously without any problems in older iTunes versions) and selecting File -> Back Up to Disc, iTunes says: "Checking items for backup..." after which it shortly says: "Burning Disc... Initializing"
    To abrubtly end with: The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred (261).
    I used various burning options, including AUDIO and DATA CD, to no avail. The differences with my previous backup are:
    - more tracks;
    - complete albums;
    - DRM free items (upgraded);
    - audiobooks.
    Although my main iPod contains the complete library (luckily it is small), I can use it for backup purposes, but after re-installing Windows and iTunes, my iPod would not be recognised and my data would be lost.
    Shuttle SB83G5   Windows XP Pro

    You are not doing anything wrong. This and many other errors have cropped up since version 7.3 was released.
    For now, the solution is to go back to version 7.2 where everything worked correctly.
    E-mail me at [email protected] and I will gladly share the steps I took with you. Apple does not allow posting a link to a site that they do not operate and therefore I can only help you privately.
    My Itunes is working perfectly again with version 7.2

  • Why does Letchworth State Park have no service at all.  High traffic area.  Lots of tourists.

    Letchworth State Park in NY is call the Grand Canyon of the east.  It has 3 high falls and a huge canyon.  Very Popular tourist attraction.  Lots of people traffic.  Dangerous area.  14 year old fell off a 200 foot cliff last week and died.  How did they summon help.  Not through Verizon.  No service at all through out 80% of the park.

    The reason is regulatory interference. For many years people who live in the Adirondack Park Corridor also had zero cell service. Most do not even today. But Verizon does have two towers there now.
    Slow progress. In fact they are made to look like big trees because the residents did not want the towers showing.
    In your location it is probably the same issues. Towns and villages or even New York State  just won't approve placement of towers.
    It is the same all over.
    Remember the state putting emergency phones on highways and other areas that had no cell service? Then spent millions removing them? Then put them back for millions more tax dollars due to people yelling for their return.

  • Why does malloc operation fails on solaris 9 x86 but not on solaris 10 x86

    Hi:
    - We are building an application written in C
    on x86 Solaris 9, x86 Solaris 10, and sparc Solaris 9.
    - During testing, we noticed that
    when the application is built on x86 Solaris 9, it dies silently;
    when the application is built on x86 Solaris 10, it runs perfectly fine;
    when the application is built on sparc Solaris 9, it runs perfectly fine;
    when the application is built on cygwin, it runs perfectly fine.
    - The statement which causes the application to die silently is:

    - My question is: how should I change our x86 Solaris 9 nightly build
    to build the application properly ?
    - Our build systems are:
    sparc Solaris 9

    You should never pass something to free that wasnt received from malloc.
    Although as a special case, free of the null pointer is allowed.
    Thats all clearly written on the malloc man page..
    So if your program is free'ing non malloc'ed pointers, then thats a bug in your program.
    So based on your code sample above
    free(ds_namv[j]) would be illegal.
    But free(data[j]) should be OK, since thats a null pointer.
    However, it should be perfectly fine to assign a new malloc'ed value to an existing pointer whether or not it was originally initialised using malloc.
    When you assign it, the original value is irrelevant.
    Additionally, the code fragment ds_namv[j] = (char**)"\0"; demonstrates some further conceptual problems.
    "\0" isnt of type (char **). It's of type (char*). And its a pointer to constant space. So writing to the area pointed to, would be illegal.
    As to why it works on sparc but not x86.
    The code appears to have a number of errors, and you just got lucky that it ever worked on sparc...

  • Why does Premiere CS4 fail to import video files from my Samsung Galaxy Note 3?

    I've acquired a Samsung Galaxy Note 3. It takes supherb HD video 1920x1080. But when I attempt to import the clips in Premiere CS4, I get the unsupported file error message. Am I missing a format spec in my project setup menu list? Or do I have to convert the files before importing and with what?
