Why does java want administrator permission to change my system every time I start Firefox?

Java is runtime 6, update 31. What's up? It is _not_ set to run as administrator and _not_ set for any compatibility mode.

First, please update your Firefox. Firefox 3.6.8 is extremely out of date, unstable and insecure. Please read [[Updating Firefox|Updating Firefox]].

  • Windows asks "Do you want the following program to make changes to this computer?" every time I start Firefox.

Neither my shortcuts nor my firefox.exe have Run As Administrator checked. And yet I get this prompt every time I start Firefox on my new laptop with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.

unchecking "Run this program as an administrator" under the Compatibility tab in the properties of the program was my first guess....darn.
Ok I understand that this is only happening in Firefox. If you start it in safe mode does this still happen? This will tell you if its an add on or a changed configuration:[[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]]

  • Why does the Avast online security tab now suddenly always open when I start Firefox, it never use to happen?

As above sentence. Suddenly, every time I start Firefox it opens with the Firefox tab and the Avast online security tab. This didn't use to happen. I've tried disabling it via Firefox (as it was loaded on the computer long before I had Firefox) which solves that problem but then the large green tick icon doesn't show next to the search list to show the site is safe. It's very annoying that it has started doing this and certainly don't want it!

Sorry you might as well as written it in double dutch. I didn't understand it at all. Previously I have said I don't understand computer speak.

  • Why does my mac mini's mouse show a pinwheel every time I hover over the date area? Also, sometimes the date shows up incorrectly.

Why does my mac mini's mouse show a pinwheel every time I hover over the date area? Also, sometimes the date/time shows up incorrectly. It started happening after I updated to OS X Mountain Lion.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Try the action that you're having trouble with again. Post any messages that appear in the Console window – the text, please, not a screenshot.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into a message.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.

  • Why is it that every time I start Firefox I have to fix the proxy settings in the connection area of options?

Every time I start Firefox I have to click on Tools, go to Options, then under the Connections tab select settings and change the proxy to "no proxy" from "Manual Configuration". Why is this doing this?

  • Every time I start Firefox, why do I get a Google sign-in tab?

I’m using Firefox for Mac vets. 34.0.5, and I get that extra tab that opens every time I start Firefox in addition to the Home page I specified in Preferences. How do I stop that from happening?

Type '''about:config'''<Enter> in the address bar.
If a warning screen comes up, press the '''Be Careful''' button.
This is where Firefox finds information it needs to run.
At the top of the screen is a search bar. Type '''browser.newtab.url'''
This tells Firefox what to show when a new tab is opened.
    If you want, right click and select '''Modify'''. You can change the setting to;
    '''about:home''' (Firefox default home page),
'''about:newtab''' (shows the sites most visited),
    '''about:blank''' (a blank page),
or you can enter any '''web page''' or '''about: page''' you want.
The same instructions are used for the new window setting, listed as
    '''browser.startup.homepage'''.

  • Why do my bookmarks rearrange themselves every time I start Firefox 3.6?

I recently installed Windows 7 on this computer and upgraded to Firefox 3.6. I used Fierfox Sync to import my old links, and right away I noticed that the order of my list of links changes every time I open Firefox. Thinking it had something to do with Firefox Sync, I uninstalled the addon, but the problem persists. It's not exactly crippling, but it's enough of an annoyance that I'm ready to switch to another browser. What's going on?
Here are a few additional observations:
    * It doesn't appear that Firefox is trying to arrange the list by alphabetic or numeric order. Every time I open the program, the list appears in a completely different order.
    * It also doesn't appear that Firefox is trying to arrange them in order of "most visited" or "most recently visited". There's at least one site that I have visited only once or twice that keeps creeping up the list. While sites I visit several times a day seem to move around at random.
    * Links in folders (and folders within other folders) seem to be unaffected. Although the top-level folders do move around the list.
    * When I try to rearrange my list, the space between the first and second items on the Bookmarks Menu is untouchable. I cannot place links, folders or seperators there. But I can move the first and second items to other places on the list, and I can place items just above or just below them.
    * I also occasionally have trouble placing links in other spots on the list. When I drag them to a location and release them, they appear 2, 3 or 4 spots below where I expect them to appear. It feels like Firefox is trying to force them into a specific order, but it's not based on their names, addresses or frequency of use.
    * Items at the top of the list move around a lot more than items at the bottom. I have a few links that I keep at the bottom of my list "just in case" I need to visit an old business site. And they have been unaffected by this problem.
    * I have the same problem with my Bookmarks Toolbar list and my Bookmarks Menu List. Fortunately links haven't jumped from one list to another.

MikeClark - removing Viewpoint Media Player did the trick for me too. Thank you.

  • The Bios keeps change the setting every time I start up my laptop!

My laptop is satellite L500, Bios v 1.9
the problem is every time I start the computer the bios changes the setting and tries to boot from the LAN.
when I press F2 and go to boot section I only found the CD, FDD and LAN, I found no HDD tab!
so every time I have to load the default configuration and restart to access the OS!
any idea how to fix this problem?
for your info I've bought this laptop only 4 months ago - so I believe the Bios battery is fine- it was working normally but about one month ago this problem started .
    Thanks in advance

Can you get into the OS?
Normally when you go to the boot menu (F12) there should be a Hard disk option.  If it is not listed then you possible have a bad hard disk.  When the hard drive is not seen it will try to boot to the next boot option, in this case the LAN.

  • Why does is say purchaseable items too big for download every time I try to download an app?

Every time I try to download a game or app my iPhone says error message purchasable items too big for download. I even changed my billon information. Anyone know what the problem might be?

Connect your iPad to iTunes on your Mac/PC and then go to your iPad's summary window. Then click back up if you want to back up your iPad first. After that click restore. Later it will ask you if you want to setup the iPad as a new iPad. Select the option to setup your iPad with your latest back up.

  • Why does TS ask to save 'NI_Database_Types.ini' every time I quite TS?

Ever since I installed TestStand 3.5 I have been getting this. Every time I quit the TestStand application, i get a popup box that says
'The following files are modified. Check the files you wish to save before exiting. You will lose any modifications to unchecked files.' and it always lists NI_DatabaseTypes.ini as a changed file.
    I don't use databases.
I don't have them enabled. I have checked 'Disable Database Logging' and all of the tabs in the Database OPtions pane are greyed out.
All I have to do to duplicate this is to start up teststand and then quit teststand. I don't even need to load a sequence file.
What can I do to stop this annoying message?
(Why can't you guys introduce a new version without introducing new errors? )

    Hi,
Out of interest, what do you install first, the LabVIEW or the TestStand.

  • Why does itunes require me to agree to the terms every time I open it

Since the last update, every time I open iTunes on my computer, I have to agree to the terms, and then also decide whether or not to share my album info.  How do I get this to stop?

Update:  I'm having the same problem using McAfee Security.  I found another discussion related to this problem, and it appears that McAfee Security program may be the root cause of the problem.  See the discussion "Why does iTunes delete my itunesprefs.xml."

  • What is "offer mosquito" and why does it automatically reload to my add-on list every time I reboot

There's a good bit of wisdom in the old expression, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." You could cut the number of updates by at least 50% if you'd only fix things that ARE "broke," And, every time you update FF, it causes another set of problems that I have to fix. The latest is an add-on called "offer mosquito" that's automatically added to my list of add-ons. I remove it --not disable, REMOVE-- the next time I reboot it's back. I'm growing just a wee tad weary of doing this...How do I get rid of it for good???
Using FF 25.0 on PC running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

hello Goodolgal, the behaviour you've described is not caused by any firefox update but by adware/malware on your pc. please run a full scan of your system with different security tools like the [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free free version of malwarebytes] and [http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ adwcleaner].

  • Why does internet options reset every time I start firefox 5.0?

Everytime I restart firefox, it is not able to connect to the internet. The proxy setting in the network settings is set to manual proxy configuration. Even though I set it to auto-detect proxy settings for this network. It does not save the setting. It goes back to manual again when I shut down firefox. And the next time I restart firefox, I have to set it again. This has never happened in previous versions. Started only after I installed 5.0. Am I doing something wrong ??

    See: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Unresponsive_Script_Warning
Bear in mind that Firefox 5.0 is still in BETA, so there are bound to be problems with it still.
So do your bit and report the issue using the Feedback option. The full candidate is slated for release on June 21.

  • Fire Fox asks permission to update the system every time it is started.

After reinstalling Fire Fox it started asking permission to update my system. If I give permission then it starts normally. If I decline it does not start as I would expect it to do.

Check that you do not run Firefox as Administrator.
Right-click the Firefox desktop shortcut and choose "Properties".
Make sure that all items are deselected in the "Compatibility" tab of the Properties window.
    * Privilege Level: "Run this program as Administrator" should not be selected
    * "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" should not be selected
Also check the Properties of the firefox.exe program in the Firefox program directory.
