This e-mail states that another ‘private message’ presumably via e-mail would be sent/received but I haven’t received anything else from an e-mail perspective. Presumably it is just a matter of navigating through a low number of settings to get to the caller-id option.

my son had this problem. I went to the apple store and they wiped out and restored the phone.. They said that was all they could do but that I should call our phone carrier and ask them. I did. They asked if in the top left side, next to battery power there was a icon of a half moon. There was. They said to go in to settings and go to "Do not Disturb" and turn it off. I did.....problem solved!!! Somehow "do not disturb" was turned on and that is what happens if it is!!

In my case, after upgrading to iOS 5 I had no music or video. But plugged into iTunes I could see 5gb of 'other'
When I clicked on Music in the device I could see all my music listed. I clicked on a track and pressed play and it worked. Then looked at the phone and it had all been miraculously restored (although I am having to reinstall most of it because the artwork in most cases won't show.
It was the same with the apps. Until I downloaded a new app, none of my existing ones would work. What a wonderful experience this iPhone upgrading is turning out to be!!!

if it was iMessage, you wouldn't be charged, because they don't send as sms. I would contact your carrier, because this is a weird issue that is most likely happening from their end

I have got a collection of DVDs and syncronized a folder with all cover pictures to my iPhone 5.
When looking at them with the "photo" app, some covers are shown full-size, some are
shown scaled. The scaled ones are shown at maximum height, so that I don't see the
whole cover on the 16:9 screen.
All covers are JPG having a similar size (760x1080px), with no EXIF/IPTC tags and
different dpi (tried different settings but saw no change).
Does anyone know, how the iPhone decides to show pictures scaled or not?

My dad had his iPhone 3G and gave it to me when he had an upgrade. He never had the issue of it turning off by itself, but when he gave it to me, all of a sudden it decided to turn off by itself even when it was on like 80% still.
I took it in to the Apple Store near me and they said that I had too much "stuff" on it, mostly music.
So, I completely redid my phone. I reset it completely so that it looked like a completely new iPhone. And then downloaded only 12 apps and 195 songs. And, only about 50 pictures. (This is an 8 gig by the way)
Right now, there's less than 4 gigs on there so far meaning I still have more than half of my phone to fill. They guy at the store said it needs 2 gigs to run.
SO, it should have started working since theres way less stuff on there now, and more than enough space to run. Why does it keep turning off still though?
It's so annoying and inconvenient. If anyone could help it would be SO appreciated.

Basics from the manual are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as a new device. Go through each step in succession until your issue is resolved.

Ok, granted, I am guilty of not always plugging my iphone in when it gives me the low battery warning. But why does it take SOOOO long to get enough charge to turn back on? If apple is taking suggestions, then my suggestion is that you should just be able to plug it in and it should be ready to use within a minute, like other cell phones. I've had my battery die mid phone call, and then had to wait for it to get enough charge to call back. I know its maybe only about 5-7 minutes but that seems like forever to return a dropped call. Does this happen to anyone else or is something wrong with my phone? Any suggestions?

Apple set the default to 10 minutes before you can use the iPhone. After 2 minutes you'll get an image of the low battery. It's in the iPhone Users Guide, page 49.

Sounds like hardware failure, called boot loop. Call Apple and or go on apple.com and make Genius Bar appointment to have your iphone reviewed by a Tech. Provided you iphone shows no physical or liquid damage they will take care of you, or if you have Apple Care Plus

Why Does My Iphone Keep Popping Up Other Itunes Account Users?

I have restored my iphone and backed it up from Icloud and now randomly my phone will pop up 4 itunes accounts stating to put their password ( like if you were going to download an app when it asks you to verify your password. Try to set up the phone as new device and to rule out a software error, don't use the backup after that.
If the phone works without problems, restore from the backup. If the problems are coming back, set it up again as new, this time adding the 3rd party apps back one after the other, one of them must be causing the freezes.
