Why does my VOIP infrastructure suck?

Hello all,I inherited a VOIP infrastructure and over the two years I've been here it's been a constant headache. Some background:PBX is an Avaya IP500 at headquarters in New York~100 Avaya 9608 IP phonesPhones are at 9 locations across the US, UK, and AustraliaSIP trunk is Babytel in CanadaPhones at external locations connect directly to IP500 over our Meraki site-to-site VPNSeveral locations have slow (1M/800K) DSL internetThe most common and aggravating issue is that any spike in latency at an external location will destroy their call quality. We've mitigated that at the farthest locations (UK, Aus) by adding a separate local SIP trunk to their phones for normal calls, but those lines are not integrated into our IP Office network. Additional issues include constant security problems with the IP500, and the general issues of hosting...

Hi, and welcome to the Palm Support Community.
Since you asked...
My Pre doesn't suck.  It doesn't randomly turn itself off.  It has reset itself once or twice, and one or two third-party apps have caused it to "crash".  I've never owned a cell phone that hasn't done that on occasion...and the Pre has been the most stable of them all in my personal experience.  The only time I lost my text message history (which I don't care about anyway) is when I did a Full Erase to resolve some sluggishness.
Palm's support site clearly indicates that your first line of support rests with Bell.  Maybe you tried that and didn't get anywhere, we cannot tell through your rant.  But the site also clearly says that the $15 charge for support calls past 90 days is waived if the call results in a repair order.  You don't say whether that was your case or not.  Nor do you say whether you followed the Palm Chat suggestion to use webOS Doctor.
Since you are on a support forum, the majority of users here come to post questions about problems they are having.  So asking if others on this Forum are having problems with their Pre is pretty pointless.  And your supposed question "can anyone explain to me why my Palm Pre sucks" is not a quesiton at all but is purely rhetorical.
There are enough other "Pre sucks" threads you are free to chime in on.  With that, I will close this one to any further posts.

  • Why does the "find" feature suck in Lion?

    In Leopard, I'd type "apple f" and could find my files easily.   Now when I use "apple f" and type in a file name, dozens of files come up that have nothing to do with what I typed in.  Sometimes, even files that have the exact name won't show up at all!  Now I have to add parameters such as search by name or name "is" or "contains" to even get close to the file I'm looking for, but Leopard used to default to that, which of course made sense.  I know they added the apple space bar searching method in Lion but I can't use that when I'm trying to attach a file to an email and the results list is smaller.  I used to love how easy it was to find any file on my mac, now it's a chore.  Am I missing something?!

    I can tell why Cmd-F blows; because Apple has figured out a better way of doing the same search.
    Cmd-F used to be the preferred way to search for system files, but the searches can be inconsistent. Don't waste your time. Instead, use the key combination Cmd-Space to bring up Spotlight; this will bring up all of the relevant files, as well as web searches, and will even group the searches for your convenience.
    Cmd-F is still a great tool if, say, you're using a browser like Safari; this will search a page and highlight pieces of text.
    If this information doesn't suck, or even if it does, post here so others can access this same info in the future!

  • Why does the "Space Preview" suck with Lion

    Hey,
    I loved it to view Pics and pdf`s and other files with the Preview when i hit Space. But with Lion, it won`t open the pdf`s and the pics take forever to load and won`t change when i want to flip through some pics.
    That ***** big time and i am getting really stressed out about that.
    I don`t want to open any program just to have a quick look at files. Thats what a preview is for, isn`t it???
    I hope I´m not the only one who has this problem and I hope that Apple fixes it with the next update or maybe anyone else has an idea how to fix it.
    Thank you in advance.

  • Why does the Mail App suck ?

    Why the **** doesn't this work !?
    I'm trying to manage my email through the default mail app in iOS. When I tried to delete more that 90 emails.
    The ******* app crashed. I tried it again, thought it was a fluke.
    SAME ******* THING HAPPENED AGAIN !
    So then I thought I'd close all my apps, restart my iPhone and maybe that help.
    Nope ! It was a ******* trick  ! Happened to me again.
    Then I tried to delete 50 emails. The app crashed again.....
    How ?!?!?!?
    Worst part was that I had to tediously pick EVERY SINGLE EMAIL ONE AT A TIME !
    Wasn't there a "select all" button in iOS at one time ? Where did it go ?!? Why isn't it there to begin with !?!?!?

  • Why does apple phone support suck when a simple coreaudiod problem should be a simple answer?

    I have a problem with a 4 month old iMac that has a problem with coreaudiod.  When coreaudiod is in the correct directory the computer is unuseable so I called Apple support.  Once I explained they told me that I would have to pay #35 for support to get help.  I didn't just call first thing I tried as many solutions that I found on the web and nothing has worked.  Currently I use the iMac with coreaudiod moved so I can acutally use the machine but of course I have no audio or video at all.  I would understand if it was older than a year or more but this machine is still brand new and shouldn't have this problem and I should just be given the help needed.  It looks like the only option I have is to return it to where I bought it and get a refund which is of course a massive pain.
    I will attempt to resolve for a short time more but it doesn't look good for this computer.  This is my fifth Mac and the first time I have had a serious problem so have not had the issue of a lack of support.
    If anyone can add anything to help resolving this I would appreciate it but even that won't help my thoughts on apple support.

    Greetings,
    If the issue was occuring the first day you owned your computer then that is worth noting.  However if it started over time that means that something added to / done to the computer modified the Mac OS.  It is worth thinking about what may have led to the issue as if you got a new computer and install / do the same thing again it may cause the issue again.
    Coreaudio is integral to OS X.  If it is not functioning then reinstalling the OS would be the first step: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.7/en/mchlp1599.html
    If that does not resolve the issue then an Erase and Install will remove whatever changes were made and take your system back to the way Apple made it (and working): http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.7/en/mh27903.html
    As you've owned 5 macs and are an experienced computer user I'm sure you keep backups but for anyone else who might read this post, make sure you have backups of your data before you reinstall your OS or erase your system: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1553
    Once you've completed your erase, only migrate your User accounts back, not the entire system, otherwise you'll get the same issue back again: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4889
    Cheers.

    It does not.
    It sounds like you may have an issue with your particular ipod.  My battery is just fine as are most users.

  • Why does for-each not work with Enumeration?

    I'm sure there's some reason for this but I don't know what it would be.
    I am calling an existing method [http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/util/zip/ZipFile.html#entries()] And it returns Enumeration<? extends ZipEntry>
    What I would like to do is
    Enumeration<? extends ZipEntry> entries = myzipfile.entries();
    for(ZipEntry ze : entries)but this won't compile because Enumeration is not an Iterator. Which kinda sucks.
    Obviously (I think) Enumeration can't be retrofit to be an Iterator without problems and the APIs that return Enumeration can't change without problems so it seems the only way that for-each would work with an Enumeration is if for-each was allowed to work with Iterator and Enumeration.
    So my question is, why isn't it? (To be clear I know how to enumerate an Enumeration, I'd just like to know if anybody has a clue why for-each was not designed to support Enumeration)

    Still it does'nt fully answer the why question. Why does the Collections class not implement a static iterable(Enumeration) method that does not impose the overhead of an addiditional ArrayList, as in the following class:
    import java.util.Collections;
    import java.util.Enumeration;
    import java.util.Iterator;
    import java.util.zip.ZipEntry;
    import java.util.zip.ZipFile;
    public class EnumerationToIterable {
        public static <T> Iterable<T> iterable(final Enumeration<T> enumeration) {
         return new Iterable<T>() {
             @Override
             public Iterator<T> iterator() {
              return new Iterator<T>() {
                  @Override
                  public boolean hasNext() {
                   return enumeration.hasMoreElements();
                  @Override
                  public T next() {
                   return enumeration.nextElement();
                  @Override
                  public void remove() {
                   throw new UnsupportedOperationException();
        public void iterateOne(ZipFile myzipfile) {
         Enumeration<? extends ZipEntry> entries = myzipfile.entries();
         for (ZipEntry ze : Collections.list(entries)) {
             // process ze
        public void iterateTwo(ZipFile myzipfile) {
         Enumeration<? extends ZipEntry> entries = myzipfile.entries();
         for (ZipEntry ze : iterable(entries)) {
             // process ze
    }Could it be more simple?
    (Thanks for the Dukes)

  • Bridge is garbage-Why does it keep crashing?

    Hello, i know someone with a mac who has adobe creative suite cs3. They have bridge, which is always crashing and i'm supposed to fix it.
    Anyway, does anyone want to give me a clue as to why bridge seems so unstable? Has a recent update caused problems? Or does bridge just plain suck? Please, do not direct me to the usual article about setting preferences or clearing the cache. It doesn't work. I have tried that first.

    Look, here's what you get if you type "adobe bridge sucks" into google:

    Is CS2 (& Bridge) unstable or is it just me? - Photo.net Digital ...

    That's just the first page!!! So surely the consensus is that it sucks?

  • Why does my Macbook slow down every 4-5 seconds?

    I am a big gamer nerd, and recently i have been moving over from x-box to computer.
    I have recently noticed when i am playing high graphics games, or any game that takes a good amount of graphics, my computer seems to slow down alot every few seconds.
    For Minecraft, i can play it on all the best settings and it will run perfectly fine for 3 seconds, then i get about 8 fps for one second and it repeats. It gets really annoying especially when it is in an intense moment, (or when it makes me fall into lava) This also becomes a big concern on games like Left 4 Dead, it makes these games (that my computer CLAIMS it can handle perfectly) almost unplayable.
    This seems to become more apparent as my computer heats up.
    Why does my computer do this? and Is there a way to make it stop?

    Good that "big gamer nerds" are starting to use the Mac.  Not long ago, there were hardly any good games around.  Going backwards, yes, it's going to make the MBP run hotter.  It's using the max amount of everything running.
    To really help you, we would need the exact model of MBP.  For example, if you have 15 or 17", you need to make sure you're running with the discrete video card (nvidia or AMD) instead of the integrated Intel version (which is good enough for TV viewing and web browsing).  Also, you need to make sure you maximize memory.  When I play a game (I only play Starcraft), I shut down all other programs, especially anything that runs in the background (like a twitter feed, though that really doesn't use too many resources).  You can use Activity Monitor (it's in your Utility folder) to see what's sucking resources on your computer.
    Remember, the game companies want to sell as many games as possible.  So they give computer spects that will just barely run the game if you tweak every setting.  You want to be way over the minimum settings in processor speed, memory, disk space etc.
    Minecraft has known framerate issues on the Mac port of the game.  It has nothing to do with you, your Mac, or anything, but the quality of code from the developer.

  • Why does my touchscreen stop working?

    I have an all-in-one computer (HP Pavilion 23-h017c TouchSmart All-in-One Desktop PC (ENERGY STAR) )that I purchased just about a month ago.  I have noticed that every other day my touchscreen stops working all together, nothing I do will fix it.  Finally I just shut my computer down, waited a sec, and turned it back on.  Once I did that my touchscreen started working just fine. If I just restart the computer my touchscreen still doesn't work - I have to shut it down.
    My question is: Why does it stop working all of a sudden? This is driving me mad, I've never shut my computer down so many times before!!

    I had the exact same problem. I had my HP Pavillion for less than a month when the screen stopped working all together. At first the screen would just shut off or not turn on when I tried to power up my laptop. It eventually stopped working all together. I had to wait 30 minutes on the phone for a customer service rep to tell me "press the power button" over and over again. Then I had to wait four days for HP to send me a box and then a week for HP to receive my laptop. I just found out after waiting on the phone for 45 minutes that it will take another month to receive my laptop. HP should recall HP Pavillions. They suck! The worst part of my customer service experience is they said they might not even send me anoher  Pavillion. Apparently they are going to send me whatever is in their stock that has the same specifications as the Pavillion. I can honestly say the BIGGEST MISTAKE I ever made in my life was buying an HP product. HP SHOULD SERIOUSLY RECALL HP PAVILLIONS. Clearly they aren't working properly. No laptop should crap out after less than a month of use.

  • Why does Adobe update the Creative Cloud?

    Why does Adobe update the Creative Cloud and not to software I purchased to the same level?

    Kurt Lang wrote:
    See also: FASB revenue recognition GAAP
    To the best of my recollection, that is what the Adobe rep mentioned. If you look up that phrase, the top return in Google is a PDF file explaining how it works. Good luck understanding it even if you're a CPA.
    John Waller has added another link on that revenue law.
    To be clear, the accounting issue called GAAP for revenue recognition states that the way Adobe counts R&D and development costs are applied to a specific product version for that version's lifetime. So, all of the Photoshop CS6 perpetual license development cost are applied against the revenue produced by that specific version. Adobe is allowed to add bug fixes and maintenance updates, but no new features for the life of that version. And, yes, this sucks for several reasons not the least of which is that the engineers are forced to try to shove as much new stuff into the most recent version and any updates that can be done prior to the end of the quarter in which a version ships because after that date, new features can't be added.
    Generally accepted accounting procedures pretty much force Adobe into this accounting. Yes, there are other accounting methods that would mitigate this, and the subscription license is one such option. Since the subscription revenue os an ongoing stream, Adobe can add new features as functionality to subscription users. Unfortunately, the users of a perperual license can not get those new features and functionality, only new bug fixes.
    The bottom line is that sucscription users get the added advantage of getting new features and functionality while perperual license users do not. Yep...kinda sucks, but it is, what it is and it's not really Adobe's fault...the accounting regulations I believe actually came into enforcement because of the whole Enron scandle...
    I realize this sort of explanation is akin to talking about sausage making...nobody really want to know how sausage is made, they just want to eat it. Same deal with Photoshop users...nobody really want to know how Adobe has to do their accounting, but the realities dictate what Adobe can and can't do...
    BTW, this all has zero to do with state sales tax...although there my be state to state differences on whether a state charges tax for software. But that has zero to do with Photoshop development.

  • Why does downloading from iCloud take so long now?

    I've been using Match since it was released. I'm used to the download times required for hour-length albums, playlists, and hi-def TV programs.
    My memory is that a year ago, downloading an hour-long music album that was bought on iTunes in iTunes Plus format (256Kbs) took abouit 5-10 mins. So why does it now take ONE HOUR?!?
    Likewise, my memory is that a year ago, downloading an hour-long hi-def TV episode that was bought on iTunes took abouit 20-30 mins. So why does it now take TWO HOURS?!?
    My infrastructure is the same: broadband connection with over 100Mbps down, iPhone 4s, iPad 3.
    WHY has downloading from Match gotten SO SLOW on iOS devices? On my new iMac it is blazing fast. And a year ago, it was rather quick (as detailed above).
    Anyway who has info on this, would greatly appreciate seeing it posted. Thanks.

    It's about 4GB, from memory, and the download speed can be affected from things like site traffic or variations in speed from your own ISP. But in general, it IS a very large download. Also never put your trust in a computer telling you how much time is left to download. As you can see, it recalculates everything more often and more quickly than the Tax Department! also why does adobe require so many updates! why can't they get it right the first five hundred time i update it!

Dont do business this way. Its arrogant & ignorant

    Adobe never installed anything on my computer I didn't want.  You can always uncheck bundled software that is offered with the standard downloads, or use the offline installers that are not bundled with any 3rd party software.
