Why does the App Store need to re-update apps already updated since purchase?

I have noticed that the Mac App Store application flags already updated applications as needing updating when the version numbers of the proposed update and the installed application are identical.
For small apps this is not necessarily a huge problem but for big applications it can be an absolute pain as I have limited band-width at my home address. This costs me time, money (in the case of monthly band-width over-runs) and performance issues.
Is there an easy fix for this? (e.g. tweak / delete a plist file)

This has been a problem since the beginning of the app store. Drives me nuts, too. How long has it been? And they can't get it right? Will they ever get it right? :dunno

They carry it because they're a store, and like any store, anything that boost the margins is great to have on the shelf. It's the same reason any store sells really expensive accessories.
I've always used water as the manual recommends. But iKlear is safe and I'm not necessarily against it. It may be good for unusual or stubborn stains that water can't dissolve. But for everyday cleaning, the question is whether you would prefer to clean your screen for free, or by paying for an expensive chemical.
I've never bought a screen protector for my iPhone either, and it's been totally fine.

Why does the itunes store show the apps I have downloaded Free or the price instead of "downloaded"?

I have encountered this problem since Christmas. When I open the itunes and want to search the apps I have downloaded, and it keeps showing these apps free or with a price instead of downloaded. However, I have not encountered this problem in my iphone. This problem makes me confused that whether I have downloaded the app if I do not check the "Purchased".
Like the following one, even though I have downloaded the app, it shows the price to me instead of "downloaded".

Hi there.
I keep wondering why iPhone 4 need to send a international SMS to activate FaceTime when the iPad 2 doesn't?
It cost's 2,50 dkr ($0.48) every time it does that.
I have a mobile subscription where i get 5 hours talk time, Free SMS, Free MMS, Free talk to all with same subscription and 5GB data for 129 dkr/month ($24.77).
But the internation SMS is not free.
And it really bugs me that my danish iPhone has to send an SMS to England to acticate FaceTime that i only can use on WiFi.
I also have a iPad 2 (WiFi model), and it can activate FaceTime fine via WiFi. So why can't the iPhone 4 do that?
I really really need a good explanation to why i have to pay to activate FaceTime.
Why can't you make local numbers to send the SMS too, or do it via WiFi just like the iPad 2.
The strangest this is that you have to be on WiFi to use FaceTime, so why use the mobile network to activate FaceTime?

Where are you, what network are you on and where did you get your phone?
The fact that it uses SMS isn't really the issue here and no-one on this forum can answer the "why" question. We are end users, not Apple. The accepted answer is if it's going to tie facetime to your phone number (which it does) then that's the way it's got to work.
The puzzling part is why it would be sending one to England... unless of course, you purchased the phone in the UK and actually live in another region entirely.

Why does the itunes store keep freezing when i try to purchase a song???

ok so just a few days ago when i tried to download a song i would press the buy button and it would turn green but thats it, it would not ask for my password like it usually does, it would just stay there. sometimes it will even freeze!! but it still lets me hear the bit of song it offers but thats it. i want to download music but it wont let me:( help please!!!!

I live in South Africa and would like to purchase the song - Shakara by Fela Kuti and its only available in the American store. Why is it not available in the South African or why does the American store prevent me from buying from it?

Why can't i buy the song Shakara by Fela Kuti from the American store if its not available from the South African store? Why is it not being made available in South Africa? It does not make sense to me, especially from such a top company that is priding itself with improving accessibility.

It's not Apple's choice, they can only sell content where the content providers grant them licenses to sell it, so if the record company hasn't granted Apple a license to sell that song in South Africa then Apple can't sell it there. You can also only buy content from your own country's store, you won't be able to buy it from the US store unless you are in the US with a US billing address on your account.

Why does the iTunes store freeze ?

My iTunes store freezes on me and all the icons at the bottom of the screen do not respond. How can I fix the problem?

Try closing all inactive apps in the Task Bar
1. Double-click the Home button to see all Inactive Apps in Task Bar
2. Hold the Apps down for a second or two until you see the minus sign
3. Tap the minus sign to close App
4. Tap center of screen to return to Home Screen
5. Reset iPad. Hold the Sleep and Home button down for about 10 second until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the red slider

I have the problem as well. It is NOT a locked account problem.
The problem is new with the 11.0.3 update and may be related to Mountain Lion (I finally updated).
If I quit iTunes, restart, and enter the password, it recognizes the password and continues. If I do the password reset routine (I have now created FIVE new passwords since the 11.0.3 update!), it accepts the new password. I suspect it's a poor coding practice inside iTunes, aggrevated by the address space randomisation added in Mountain Lion.

Sometimes when I sign on to buy something at the iTunes store it will ask me for a password to an old.mac account. Then in ther cases it will ask me for a more current account.
And how do I combine all of the ourchaes from both these accounts into one?

You can't currently combine accounts, nor transfer content from one account to another account - content will remain tied to the account that downloaded it, so only that account will be able to authorise its content, re-download it, and/or download updates to its apps.

The iTunes Store keeps asking for Apple ID password on launch, and with every download, even when I am already logged in to the iTunes Store with my Apple ID. I am using iCloud, my iCloud account is set up on my iMac and I am using iCloud Keychain. My Apple ID password is stored in my Keychain. So why can't the iTunes Store remember me?

Back up all data.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Select the login keychain from the list on the left side of the Keychain Access window. If your default keychain has a different name, select that.
If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, click to unlock it. You'll be prompted for the keychain password, which is the same as your login password, unless you've changed it.
Right-click or control-click the login entry in the list. From the menu that pops up, select Change Settings for Keychain "login". In the sheet that opens, uncheck both boxes, if not already unchecked.
From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences ▹ First Aid
If the box marked Keep login keychain unlocked is not checked, check it.
Select

Why does the iTunes store no longer sell any Pokémon anime TV programs or movies at all?

All I saw was that there were two Pokémon anime movies available at the iTunes store:

But sadly, now they're gone, and then there is currently no longer any Pokémon anime TV programs or movies available at the iTunes Store at all. But just want to know all about the reason there isn't.

Apple can only sell what they are granted licenses to sell - if the content providers haven't granted them, or have decided to remove their items from the store (which the occasionally do), then Apple can't sell them. You can try requesting that items be added to the store, but you might be better off contacting the providers (film studio, tv company) and asking them : http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunes.html

HT1338 Why does the iPhoto that came installed on my iMac not update with Software Update?

I have iPhoto v9.1.5 that came pre-installed on my iMac. However, although there have been newer versions available on the App Store (currently up to v9.2.3) there have never been any updates available in "Software Update".
Weirder still, when I go to the App Store, iPhoto is one of the apps showing as available to update. But when I click to update, the App Store sometimes tells me I "must log-in with the account used to purchase the application", and sometimes that "only apps purchased from the App Store can be updated". I've tried both the accounts I have with the App Store, but same result each time.
I had a very disappointing experience with Apple Customer Support, speaking to several people in different departments - none of whom could explain why I couldn't update iPhoto, nor offering any kind of fix. Not what you expect from Apple!
Does anyone have any clue how I can fix this? v9.1.5 ***** on so many levels - but then maybe v9.2.3 is just as bad and I should just trash it and use something else anyway..... Any advice will be considered!

I've since found other posts on this issue (like https://discussions.apple.com/message/16434345#16434345), so at least I'm not the only one. Seems that Apple are being incredibly slow to resolve this. The only solution I've read is to get my hands on an iLife installation disc - and amazingly, none of the techs on the phone (I've spoken to several) have come up with this solution!
But is there any other way?

You don't override constructors. However, every class, in it's constructor, must call some constructor from the class it's extending. In most cases this is simply super(). However, if your class does not have a default constructor (i.e. you've declared any other constructor, or the sub class does not have access to it, I.E. you've declared it private) then you must include a call to some other constructor in the super class. The constructor in the subclass does not have to be the same as the super class one, but you do have to invoke a constructor from the super class. I.E.
class A {
A(int i) {}
class B extends A {
B(String b) {
    super(0);
}

Why does the retail store only carry 5400rpm drives in mbp 17?

Just wondering why the stores carry the mbp 17's but only with a 5400rpm drive? I realize I can order it and change the drive options, but if they carried more options IN store they would sell more (I think at least).
A 7200 rpm drive option @ 500gb in the store vs only online would have helped push me to buy in store today, and in general for something that is going to be high end and well over 2.5K base a 7200rpm drive doesn't seem to much to ask for as a base in store stocked item - just sayin'

Understandable. Also consider that the HD is very easy to swap; I strongly suspect they'd do it for you right on the spot in the store, but then again you'd have to buy the 7200 from them. I don't know that I've ever heard of anyone just being able to pay the difference in the store, let them swap the drives and keep the still-new 5400; I doubt they'd go for it, but wouldn't hurt to ask if it's important to you.

Why does the erase option need a different passcode?

Hi guys!
I'm preparing to sell my iPhone 3GS and I want to wipe the whole thing before I do.
I selected the "erase all contents and settings" option and typed in the passcode and got an error, so I tried again and got another error.
Why the passcode didn't work was beyond me as I've been using the passcode lock for a while. So, just out of curiosity, I tried activating the passcode lock and all was fine.
So my question is, if the passcode works for the lock, why isn't it working for the "erase all contents and settings" option?
At this stage, I'm guessing the two features are using a different passcode. But the problem is, I have no idea what this latter passcode is, nor have I ever known.
I keep complete records for everything I buy, their settings and every service I use, and I have no record of any separate passcode.
Any ideas how I resolve this?

Start by making sure you have the latest version of iTunes.

If it's what you're seeing, you can try resetting Winsock as a temporary fix.
1. To do so, please do the following in an administrator user:
Windows Vista and Windows 7: Right click All Programs and choose Accessories > Command Prompt. Choose to open as an administrator.
Windows XP: Click Start > Run and type in cmd.
2. Enter the following command:
netsh winsock reset
3. Restart the computer and test the issue.
Note: If the issue returns, third-party software may be reinserting the LSP.
