Why does the inbox on my iPad say I have unread email?

I have no unread messages in my Exchange Inbox but my iPad says I have 744 messages unread. Why is this?

That's because your mail account is a POP account. That means that even when you delete or read a message on one of your devices, it stays unread on the server. If you log in to your mail account on the website and delete the messages, they won't be coming to your devices any longer. But the once which already came to your iPad must be deleted manually.

    Restore your iPad.  Plug it in to iTunes (current version - 11.0.1).  Let it sync.  Then click "Restore" from the right side of iTunes.

    Maybe you should start closing message tabs after you read them. If you have so many open that your inbox gets pushed off the screen you obviously just keep opening tabs without closing old ones.
    To get out of your situation now right click one tab and select Close Other Tabs. Then use the x on the remaining tab to click we it.

    If the unit has NEVER been jailbroke, first try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...  Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
    If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
    At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
    If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again.  Also, if you have IOS-7, read this.

    To elaborate a little more Nick, that is a feature designed to make it easier to type when holding the iPad with both hands.
    If you tap the icon in the lower right of the keyboard, you will see the option to Merge the keyboard back together. If you hold the icon and drag your finger up and down, you will move the keyboard.

    Go here:
    Settings > iTunes & App Stores > tap your Apple ID: > View Apple ID > Country/Region
    and confirm that it's set to the correct country for your account. If it is, try signing out of your account and back in.

    I found apple service by calling number on the new ipad manual that comes in the ipad box. At the end pages of that manual there is number for support and service. You can also try to learn service number from the store you bought it. Or you live in a country which has Apple Store, give it to them to test it.
    I thought it was a software issue too. I'm good on using software. I struggled a lot to find the trick. I searched net about it and saw it happens with ipads, iphones, android phones, generally touch screens. Don't accept ro reset your device advice if it is repeating.

    I recently noticed that the navigational toc in my epub on iPad does not show the "Cover" or "Contents" entries although they do show up okay in ADE. I tried naming the Cover in the <text> portion of the .ncx as "Cover image" and Contents as "Where are things" and these 2 entries showed up in iPad and linked to the proper items. Does iPad choose certain wording to omit these entries?

    I just updated itunes and now I can't open it, error message says the current itunes is corrupted and to download another. Does this mean I have lost everything???

    This happened to me on Sunday as well.  Your music for itunes is kept in a different folder from the itunes application itself.  So if you download itunes again it only updates the application and "shouldn't" delete your music files.  It worked okay for me and didn't lose any of my ripped files.

    The details are that my first time user impression is that Firefox is a liar, or that the web page is developed by liars; or that the program doesn't function well as it said that my Firefox was out of date, but the link to fix the problem said that is was up to date. So, the only purpose of the statement that it was out of date was to get me to register, and that the company doesn't care what I think about it. I am totally open to another logical explanation. So, if it wasn't a lie, then the second page was a lie.... which is it?

    If you get a pop-up message asking to update Firefox or plugins then such a message is likely a scam and you should never respond to such an alert to avoid getting infected with malware.
    *Only update Firefox via "Help > About" or by downloading and installing Firefox from the Mozilla server and never via a pop-up or link on a web page.
    *Plugins should only be updated via the plugin itself or by visiting the home page of the plugin.
    Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.

    Sound comes on sometimes works fine other times I go to change volume and it won't sound

    Is there anything around the volume rocker that might he affecting how it works? Maybe some sticky substance or anything that could be causing the button to stick?
    Have you tried resetting the iPad?
    Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

    I can recommend you do the following:
    1/ Quit Mail completely via the Mail-menu
    2/ Open the Finder and find the go-menu near the top left corner of your computer display (not the Finder-window) Choose go to folder.
    Copy-paste the following line into the field that appears, including the ~ :
    ~/library/mail/v2/maildata/
    3/ Move all files that start with "envelope" and "ExternalUpdate" to the trash. Don't empty the trash in case we need to restore these files (which is not likely, but still)
    4/ Restart OS X. Open Mail. Now it will re-import your existing mail. Is your issue solved after this?
