WHY does the radio function rely on a wired headse...

I know this is a feature common to many phones but I'm sick and %&&(%&% tired of it, and just don't understand why.
Picking up my Lumia 900 a couple of days ago it simply annoys me that the radio function cannot operate when connected to a BT headset.
I had a 'tansistor radio' 40yrs ago that did not require an external antenna.
The internal antennae of such devices are good for WIFI, BT, 3/4G. Just WHY THE HEY can they not be used for FM radio?

You can use the radio without wired headset. You can find this and much more information here (specifically here);
To switch between speaker and headset modes
While playing a station, press and hold the station number.
Press Switch to speaker or Switch to headset to switch between the two options.

It would be extremely helpful to see a log of what is happening "behind the scenes" with the driver. To do this, you can use a utility called NI-Spy which can be launched from Start >> Programs >> National Instruments >> NI Spy or from the Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) utility.
NI Spy is a Win32 application that monitors, records, and displays National Instruments API calls made by applications. Use NI Spy to quickly locate and analyze any erroneous National Instruments API calls that your application makes, and to verify that the communication with your instrument is correct.
You can turn the log to file feature on via the Spy >> Options menu in the program. Please attach this log file to this Developer Zone post

Why does the radio use so much power?

I have an iPod Nano..forget which generation but it's the small square one, c2011.
Why does using the radio drain the battery so much faster than listening to MP3s does?

Right..ok, then, so what the chip is doing is some kind of automatic gain control..compressor expander type thing? The consumption is so striking..I can probably get 2, maybe 3 days' worth of mp3 play.
lucky if I could get 4 hours' from the radio.
Still can't believe all that little gizmo does in the space of about 1 cubic inch.

Why does the DLL function executed by call library node fail when the Vi is re-opened?

LabVIEW: version 10.0
DLL: Custom
Compiler: Visual C++ 6.0
Function Prototype: __declspec(dllexport) const char * test(void)
We have developed a DLL for use. The DLL compiles cleanly.  The DLL includes a function test.  The test function validates the functional capabilities of the DLL. I have followed the examples online, and I have used the import shared library tool in LabVIEW. The VIs created use the call library node.
When I create a VI calling the test function from the custom DLL using the call library node the VI executes the DLL function test flawlessly. I close the VI. When I re-open the VI and run it, I get an error code from the DLL.  However, if I go to the block diagram and set the path for the DLL in the configure call library node again then the VI executes the DLL function test flawlessly again.
I have to set the path for the DLL in the configure call library node every time I open the VI. The examples I downloaded from the community do not require this. What might the DLL be missing? What am I missing?

I think it was rather unfair of me to ask for help with my DLL issue without disclosing more detailed information. As a corrective action, I have attached a zipped file. The zipped file contains the entire VC++ 6.0 project for compiling the DLL, the DLL, and the VI I have been using to test it.

As a prerequisite to compilation and usage of the DLL you'll need to have installed Python 26 on your system.

Why does the sum function not work when I try to add a column of decimal numbers? The value is always returned as 0. No problem with whole numbers but decimals do not work!

just bought a MacBook Air and using Numbers to make a spreadsheet for financial purposes. The sum function is working ok for whole numbers but when I try to sum a column of 2 decimal place numbers the result always comes back as 0. Can anyone help?

I suspect that your 2 decimal place numbers are formatted as text. Change the format of the column to currency and see it that works.

Why does the calendar function send invitations in GMT?

I have updated my time zone to my local setting (CST), but whenever I send out an invitation using my calendar function on my macbook, it does so in GMT. Why?

From the menu bar, select
Calendar ▹ Preferences... ▹ Advanced
and check the box marked
Turn on time zone support
Then, from the menu in the upper right corner of the Calendar window, select your desired time zone.

Why does the radio station I select keep having to rebuffer?

Lately, whenever I try to play the CBC jazz station in the iTunes radio directory, it keeps stopping to rebuffer. I choose another station, let's say, Bossa Nova -- Sky.fm, just above CBC in the list, and there is no problem. Why is that?

think of buffering like poring water into a cup with a hole at the bottom of the cup. To keep the water flowing constantly you have to re-fill the cup faster then the water pores out.
If your having re-rebuffer frequently your not downloading the file fast enough to play that file continuously. When you look at radio stations you may some time see 56K, 128k, 256K. The larger the number the faster your going to have to download the file to play it continuously.
So if it's buffering frequently you would want to try the lower broadcast rate. ie 56k instead of 128k. Some of the things that can prevent a station from streaming continuously include: downloading other files, loading large websites, poor internet connections, poor wifi signal.

I now get this weird MacVx garbage showing up everywhere and a bunch of these error messages which are annoying (I also have a Mac by the way)...it mentions 'my i.p. address' which is not correct (thank god), and it must think I'm an idiot...So....any way to resolve this before I trash my favorite browser forever???

Why does the Summary function give a datatype error when opening a data model for editing?

I have two datasets (G1 and G2) within a data model; i've used a field in G2 and placed it into G1 as a Summary Function of G2. The datatype of this field in G2 is Integer, however if you set the Summary field in G1 to the same datatype - Integer, an error appears.

Oracle have provided a patch.
We are running OBIEE at patchset 11.1.1.7.140715, Oracle have provided us with a patch p17563277 backported to the 140715 patchset.
This fix will presumably be incorporated in later releases.

Why does the replay function repeat the same songs?

I like to start playing music from the locked screen and I always keep shuffle by song turned on . I double click the home button and then press play as instructed. More often than not though, it starts playing some song I have listened to recently and it then plays through the same "shuffled" songs from before in the same order. When I am running arrands and listening in the car for just a few songs at a time, I end up listening to the same three songs over and over unless I open the music app and reselect shuffle songs. It didnt used to do this, just after the iOS6 update. Anyone else have this problem? Anyone know how to fix it? Or is this a programming issue I hope Apple changes?
In the same vein, if you have watched a video from your photo album recently and then do the same quick start music from the locked screen, you dont get music, you get the sound only from that video you watched. Why would Apple program it to do that? Why would we want to quick start the sound of a video when we intend to listen to music?

I can change iCloud mail settings on my Mac, but do not have the same access within the app on the iPad.
I will keep looking for a way to change the settings on the iPad, but in the mean time, set mail settings to ask before deleting.

The thing is, the music does not cease prior to the slideshow start. Or At least it doesn't cease on my ATV.
I do have Flickr set as screensaver indeed, but having to change screensaver settings to watch a new slideshow is just plain annoying IMO.
Ane the fact that the music plays when a screensaver slideshow is active is a proof that technically the ATV could support the feature.

"Why Does The Shuffle Songs Feature Perform So Poorly?"

I have an iPod 160G Classic, I've spent the last 3 months taking my 2,247 "Owned" cd's (I'm a retired dj), an ripped them with identical settings and transfered them flawlessly onto my iPod. I now have a total of 26,311 tracks on my iPod. "FWI"- I tranfered each "Complete" album, no individual tracks... I had been looking forward to being able to Shuffle through my music and not actually listening to individual ablums at a time. I work as a security guard and I am able/allowed to use my iPod via my Bose dock.
I have been listening to my iPod in Shuffle Mode for 3 full weeks now and I am finding that I'm continually listening to the same 30 or so albums out of the full 2,247 that are on my iPod, sometimes it will actually play a song from a perticular album and then play Another track from that same album within the next 10 - 15 tracks!
In the end I'm hearing One New Track that I haven't heard yet every 15 - 20 or so tracks while at the same time I'm hearing tracks from the same albums and or groups throughout the 15 - 20 tracks that have played... As an example, I have 4 albums from the group KISS, I hear tracks from those 4 albums atleast 3 - 5 times every day - day & half... Why does the Shuffle Mode work so poorly? I can't see for the life of me why the so-called "Shuffle Mode" doesn't Shuffle through "ALL" of the 2,247 tracks that are on the iPod.
I've even gone as far as to use a cable to plug my iPod into a regular radio allowing me "Not" to charge my iPod until the battery is almost dead, allowing it to play continuously for my entire 8 hour shift in Shuffle Mode. And then just resume the next shift for another 8 hours, again, until the battery is almost dead. I've gotten around 35+ hours per charge over the last 2 weeks.
"My whole reason for spending $350. on this iPod was so that I could listen to my album collection as though I were listening to a radio... shuffling through "All" of my tracks. I'm now sitting here kicking myself in the a$$ for seemingly wasting my money..."
Any insight would be appreciated.
And just to let it be known, I have attempted to play tracks manually just to see if they are even workable transfers and I haven't come across any problems with the music that I put on the iPod.

It is true - "random" does not mean that you should not hear two songs from the same album (or artist) in close proximity. However, as the number of albums increases, the likelihood of hearing multiple (sometimes three or four) cuts from the same album decreases. And the chances of this happening EVERY time a new shuffle is started is even less likely. Comparing flipping a coin (a 0.5 probability of any given result) to a library with over 2000 albums (a .0005 probability of a track from any given album) is comparing apples to oranges. Also, given one of the posts above which indicated hearing the same *progression of songs* indicates that the mathematical algorithm used by Apple to simulate randomness (as there is no such thing as true randomness in computer programming) is just not up to snuff.

Why does the iPad Mini not have music play count?

I bought an iPad Mini and also have a macbook. I had listened to various music on my iPad Mini the other day, however when I connected the iPad Mini to the Macbook and iTunes via the lightning connector to sync, it synced the ratings I gave the songs I listened to on the mini, but no play count, as if I had not listened to anything. I hope there is something I can do about this as I often look at my play count!!

It should work work but these kind of bugs pop up between updates, both hardware and software. Try closing all apps in the recently used list on the iPad. Double tap the Home button, tap and hold one of the icons at the bottom till they wiggle then tap the to close them. Tap the Home button to get back to the Home screen then hold the sleep button till you see the slide to power off message. Once it has powered down completely hold the Sleep button till the Apple icon appears.

Many people including myself rely on playcounts to control smart playlist to manage large libraries. Smart playlists can be created to show your most or least played tracks and used more or less as your favorites or other uses. Along with playcounts the date is transferred so to keep a fresh list of music on my smaller iPods a smart playlist set to songs not played in the last month keeps some fresh tunes on it.
Playcounts are also used to manage Podcasts in iTunes to delete older episode. Bookmarks, which can also be effected by this, can mess up audiobooks, movies and podcast playback between different devices. So yes, it does matter.

For some prerecorded audio files the Transpose slider will not work reliably. I found no clear pattern, when it does and when not.
If all fails, create a loop from the audio file. Select the region in the track and use the command "File: Add region to Loop library".
Set the current key and tempo, name the loop, and save the loop.
Now add it from the loop browser to a new track and delete your old track. The search field in the Loop browser will help you to find the loop quickly.
You will be able to transpose the sample as described above, like a regular loop.
