Why has booting become slow?

Hi there. Whenever I turn on my macbook, it takes almost 10 minutes to reach the login page. This just started happening recently. Do you know what this can be attributed to and how I may fix it? Could it possibly be because of holding down the power button to shut it down the last two times? Thanks!

When you say "10 minutes" do you actually mean that... or are you just tossing that number out there?
In general, a forced shutdown (by holding down the power button) won't cause any major problems, but you can corrupt data on the drive if it happens to be writing when you force it to shutdown... doing this often can, over time, cause issues (although it won't physically damage anything).
As was previously mentioned, knowing why you had to force your computer to shut down in the first place may be a good place to start. If you were not able to shutdown properly, that would be a sign that some process is hanging (it could be due to hardware issues as well... but this is less likely). What were you doing the two times you were forced to shutdown with the power button? Were you doing the same thing both times? If you do the same thing, does it result in your system locking up each time? As much info as you can provide would be helpful.

  • Why is Safari becoming slow and unresponsive?

    Ok - I have exactly the same problem.  I can run safari and use it.  After a short while it becomes slow and unresponsive.  When I quit I get the rainbow ball of death and the only way I can stop the application is to force quit.
    It is definitely linked to a particular network account as the guest account check above shows that it runs fine on another account.
    As I watch system memory in actvity monitor while I use safari the fhe following occurs:
    1.     free memory gets gradually used up to about 50%
    2.     Inactive memory gradually builds to about 50% of total
    3.     Then page in and page outs build massively and the swap file goes into overdrive
    I have 32GB memory on board but even so it doesn't take long for Safari to gobble it up.
    At the same time CPU % shows 90-100% and Real Mem sits around 15-18GB.
    By this stage the whole machine is slow and unresponsive as safari ***** up all its processor and memory resources.
    I have taken the following action:
    1.     reset safari using the reset process built into the app - no difference
    2.     deleted the preferences file - no difference
    3.     deleted the Library/cache file - no difference
    Thought about resetting NVRAM but decided that it wouldn't make much difference because it seems to be linked to a user.
    Any thoughts/suggestions on other actions I can take would be welcome.
    Are there other cache or preference files that I should be trashing.  Can I delete and reinstall safari?  I don't really want to have to go through the process of establishing a new user and rebuilding a reasonably substantial docs and photo library and set up.
    Help.
    <Re-Titled By Host>

    You forgot to mention what version of Safari you have, but:
    If Safari is getting very slow:
    (Presumably you regularly empty your Safari cache by deleting the following file:
    Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/cache.db
    and clear your History)
    Adding Open DNS codes to your Network Preferences, should give good results in terms of speed-up as well as added security, (including anti-phishing and redirects) (Full information about Open DNS is here: http://www.opendns.com/home/nobloat ) and further independent information can be read here:
    http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57338784-263/free-dnscrypt-tool-enhances-ma c-web-security/?tag=mncol;txt
    and here:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/1146064/troubleshootdns.html?t=234
    If you are using a single computer: Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu, and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' add the following two numbers:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    (You can also enter them if you click on Advanced and then DNS)
    Sometimes reversing the order of the DNS numbers can be beneficial in cases where there is a long delay before web pages start to load, and then suddenly load at normal speed:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2296
    If your computer is part of a network:please refer to this page: http://www.opendns.com/start/best_practices/#your_network and follow the advice given.
    If you use a Router, make sure it has the latest firmware installed.
    One reason for a slowness in page loading may be the 'DNS Pre-fetching' feature of Safari 5.x as is described here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3408?viewlocale=en_US
    You can cancel DNS pre-fetching by going to Terminal and typing:
    defaults write com.apple.safari WebKitDNSPrefetchingEnabled -boolean false
    You have to restart Safari for it to take effect.
    If Safari seems to hang for ages:
    If you have a lot of tabs open and/or a lot of pages running Flash, Safari can sometimes 'hang', requiring a restart of Safari. This can often be inconvenient, and as it is rarely Safari itself that is hanging but merely one of its plug-ins, usually Flash, there is a way using Terminal to restart the plug-ins (without restarting Safari and losing your tabs) by quitting the WebPluginHost process:
    Open the Terminal from the Utilities folder in /Applications and type
    killall -9 WebKitPluginHost
    Note that this command kills all Safari plug-ins, not just Flash. All plug-ins should start back up when you reload the page.
    Then go back to Safari and refresh any pages that were using the Flash plug-in. This also fixes the Beachball of Death. Try this whenever Safari gets slow or freezes. The later versions of Flash 10.1 onwards appear to have improved the situation somewhat, but haven't completed eliminated it.
    For this and other reasons Apple switched their websites to HTML5 in January 2011:

  • MacPro has recently become slow (5+ hour boot times!)

    Hi all,
    Let me say in advance that I very much appreciate all patience and assistance with my problem. I'm the kind of guy who's never run Terminal, so that's what you're dealing with.
    In the past few weeks I've had some booting problems where the grey startup screen has shown a spinning wheel for a bit longer than normal. Once logged in, some tasks take unusually long to accomplish (stuttering video, loading a normal amount of files in an opened folder, launching an application, copying and pasting, etc).
    This past week I couldn't boot at all and I tried to boot in safe mode with no avail. But then I booted up and left it on overnight -- in the morning I was in! Then when I rebooted to see if the problem was a temporary one, the boot time was several hours.
    Some info about my Pro: it has 4 internal 1TB drives, none of which have fewer than 70-400GB of free space. The boot drive (1) mirrors to drive 2, and the other drive (3) mirrors to drive 4 (so, 2 drives, 2 internal backups). I also have my data backed up on BackBlaze, but I'd rather not lose all of my software and configurations from years of work by doing a clean install. I have pulled all drives but the boot drive and have swapped the boot drive to its mirror -- all with the same results. Does this mean it's hardware? It has NO third party hardware (maybe a graphics card to allow me to have a second screen, but I can't remember if I ordered it that way). It has NO peripherals other than speakers and a wireless keyboard/mouse that I've had for 6 years. My desktop is clean.
    I've read a lot of solutions, but haven't tried all of them yet because the computer is so slow that it might take weeks to try a handful. I also fear rebooting, since I'm not sure it will start again.
    Here is some info from EtreCheck which I've seen requested in similar threads. There's a worrying amount of red.
    And I apologize in advance, but if you say "Uninstall xxx" please let me know how.

    For starters, replace the 2600.
    Replace the boot drive ( Matt's Bootdisc 1 (disk0s2) /: 999.35 GB (67.91 GB free)
    Never let boot drive get more than 60% full.
    You will see huge improvement replacing it with 250GB $160 Samsung 840 SSD
    Forget mirror if you are doing that and just clone the system as needed
    Use 2TB media and data drive (Seagate Constellation) - if you can get by with 1TB and save fine.
    Backups should be two or more and some exsternal and offline. Clone and TimeMachine is a good combination.
    Do a clean system install on your new boot drive.
    Don't reinstall any 3rd party, and leave Intego out. If you must, then setup a small special "system maintenance" drive with the "system tools" but AV just adversely affect performance and have no place in production system on a Mac.
    A bad sector on a disk drive in some areas cannot be mapped out or fixed wtihout a full disk erase.
    Redownload 10.8.5 only before and instead of running the installer (and here install onto another drive!) first make a bootable flash drive installer and keep it around.
    Instead of using DVDs which I never do even 8 yrs ago plus, just clone or install a small 30GB or less 'emergency maintenance system' partition on one of your drive partitions (even on TimeMachine drive which should be around 2-3TB or more).
    If you want to mirror instead of using Carbon Copy Cloner, take a look at the demo from www.SoftRAID.com instead.
    Add USB3 Sonnet Alllegro for your external drives - excellent fast performance and reliable.
    For fast scratch disks and editing or for graphic catalogues and libraries, a couple SSD drives mounted on Sonnettech.com Sonnet Tempo Pro PCIe ($300) can be found on Amazon and OWC www.macsales.com

  • Why has 3G become so terribly slow?

    I see threads containing instructions of how to reset the phones network settings, including removing sim card with phone off for 10 secs, from Verizon to increase speed. I have done all these things as well as looked up 3G coverage according to their maps to be sure I am listed within coverage area. When I am in or around Memphis I get horrible 3G coverage and speed. A lot of the time it shows up as 1x speed even though I should be 100% covered here. Doesn't matter if I am inside or outside a building, same results. Also where I live in north MS it shows up 3G but speed is still terrible. Here is the results in a major city:

    I'm having the exact same problem.  I have the Galaxy S5, I'm a truck driver and got Verizon because of the supposed incredible coverage. Verizon has good coverage but their 4g is no where near what they claim, I'd be fine with 3g however when I'm on 3g data is just not usable. It doesn't matter what state I'm in, I've been all over the country, once my phone hits 3g I know it's unusable,  for instance it just took 20 minutes to download a 5meg app, it takes Web pages minutes to load and half the time they just time out.  It is getting ridiculous and I'm about to just switch to At&t and see if things work better. 3g was never this slow back before 4g existed, hell I've used my phone as a hotspot and gamed from computer online with 3g back in the day.   But on verizon I can't even load simple Web pages,  come on, paying this amount of money for this is insane.

  • Why has Firefox become so slow? I hate Google but I've had to switch to Chrome. I'm on a top of the range Mac Mavericks with latest Firefox browser.

    Never mind the volunteers! Why the hell can't the creators of Firefox sort this out? But if they don't want to bother then I'll just forget Firefox and carry on with Chrome.
    I've tried all the cute little so-called fixes, cleared the cache, even got some silly thing called Speedy Fox but none of it ever works. Please Firefox, just sort it out.

    Volunteers are the creators of Firefox, it's an open source project.
    Have you tried making sure you are using the latest version of Firefox (36)? Tried a Firefox Refresh? [[Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings]]

  • Why has firefox become so slow and it use to be so fast, why do pages take so long to load now.

    Firefox use to be very fast. Now it takes a long time for pages to load. There is no malware or spyware. Hardware is working right. Have started using Safari to get the speed I use to get before, but I miss Firefox. I disabled all my addons and plugins and still at times it reminds me of dial up. I have a cable connection of +15 mps. I also constantly clean my cache so it isn't that. IE is much, much faster as well. I have totally uninstalled it and reinstalled it as well, but it doesn't help.

    Maybe it is a problematic add-on? At the top of the Firefox window, select Help<Restart With Add-ons Disabled. This will start Firefox in safe mode. If you notice anything is faster, than chances are the problem you were having was an extension. Disable all of them, then begin enabling them one by one. Restart each time you disable an add-on. If you notice Firefox is slow after enabling a certain add-on, then, problem solved (hopefully).
    Another thing you can do is install FasterFox, a helpful add-on that increases the speed of Firefox. Download here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/fasterfox-9148/

  • The spinning beach ball - why has my MacBook slowed down SO much?

    My MacBook has become terribly slow. I get the spinning beachball almost every time I hit a key now, and I am just about ready to throw everything out the window. Mainly I use my laptop for internet browsing (Safari only), iTunes and iPhoto. I do have third party stuff on my computer such as the software for my Nike Fuelband, and Jawbone Updater for my Jambox. I have Java too, which I probaby don't need. Oh I also have some card games - but those sorts of things I get from the App Store. I don't muck around with settings or anything, because I don't know anything about that! I just USE my laptop. So having said that, I don't know why I would have the spinning beachball as my new sidekick....
    I have followed instructions I found on another discussion (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5303293?start=0&tstart=0) to test my MacBook. My results are good news I think: Logging in as a guest account, everything runs like I would hope - iTunes opens up quickly, same with iPhoto, and when I look up sites on Safari they load up quickly. I then started in safe mode, and logged in as myself. Excusing the "stuttering" of the graphics and such, I would say that in safe mode things moved along much more quickly. I got the beachball in safe mode but not every time I tried opening something, and only briefly when it did appear.
    My question is, where do I go from here? How do I "clean up" or fix my MacBook so that it runs like it used to? Like I say, I think it must be good news that in those test scenarios my MacBook performs much more like the good old days. Does this suggest that my own account just has crap on it that needs to go? And if so, the big question is, how on earth would I go about identifying the source(s) of the problem and then getting rid of them?
    I have searched some on the forums here but I'm at a bit of a loss because I don't really even know what to search for! As I say, I am a complete user only! I do follow instructions pretty well though, so if anyone could point me to the right help page or give me further advice, I would be oh-so-grateful!
    cheers,
    Lydia

    Please read this whole message before doing anything.
    This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
    Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed, as well as certain other aspects of the configuration that may have a bearing on the problem. Don’t be alarmed by the seeming complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
    These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode, if possible. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing. If you can only boot in safe mode, you can still use this procedure, but not all of it will work. Be sure to mention that in your reply, if you haven't already done so.
    Below are instructions to enter UNIX shell commands. The commands are safe and do nothing but produce human-readable text output, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects. I am not asking you to trust me. If you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them.
    The commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then copy it.
    Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. Step 1 should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
    Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
    When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Step 1
    Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    P=/usr/libexec/PlistBuddy; E () { [ "$o" ] && echo $'\n'$1: && echo "$o"; }; F () { o=$($P -c Print "$2" | awk -F'= ' \/$3'/{print $2}'); E "$1"; }; { o=$(kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}'); E "Loaded extrinsic kernel extensions"; o=$(launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|org\.(x|openbsd)|\.[0-9]+$/{print $3}'); E "Loaded extrinsic user agents"; o=$(launchctl getenv DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES); E "Inserted libraries"; o=$(crontab -l); E "User cron tasks"; o=$(cat /e*/lau*); E "Global launchd configuration"; o=$(cat ~/.lau*); E "Per-user launchd configuration"; F "Global login items" /L*/P*/loginwindow.plist Path; F "Per-user login items" L*/P*/com.apple.loginitems.plist Path; F "Safari extensions" L*/Saf*/*/E*.plist Bundle | sed 's/\..*$//;s/-[1-9]$//'; o=$(find ~ $TMPDIR.. \( -flags +sappnd,schg,uappnd,uchg -o ! -user $UID -o ! -perm -600 \) | wc -l); [ "$o" == 0 ] || printf "\nRestricted user files: %s\n" $o; cd; o=$(find -L /S*/L*/E* {,/}L*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,In,Keyb,Mail/Bu,P*P,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo}* -type d -name Contents -prune | while read d; do $P -c 'Print :CFBundleIdentifier' "$d/Info.plist" | egrep -qv "^com\.apple\.[^x]|Accusys|ArcMSR|ATTO|HDPro|HighPoint|driver\.stex|hp-fax|JMicron|microsoft\.MDI|print|SoftRAID" && echo ${d%/Contents}; done); E "Extrinsic loadable bundles"; o=$(find /u*/{,*/}lib -type f -exec sh -c 'file -b "$1" | grep -qw shared && ! codesign -v "$1"' {} {} \; -print); E "Unsigned shared libraries"; for d in {,/}L*/{La,Priv,Sta}* L*/Fonts; do o=$(ls -A "$d"); E "$d"; done; } 2> /dev/null | pbcopy; echo $'\nStep 1 done'
    Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
    The command may take up to a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. Wait for the line "Step 1 done" to appear below what you entered. The output of the command will be automatically copied to the Clipboard. If the command produced no output, the Clipboard will be empty. Paste into a reply to this message. No typing is involved in this step.
    Step 2
    Remember that you must be logged in as an administrator for this step. Do as in Step 1 with this line:
    E () { [ "$o" ] && echo $'\n'$1: && echo "$o"; }; { o=$(sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix\.cron)|org\.(amav|apac|cups|isc|ntp|postf|x)/{print $3}'); E "Loaded extrinsic daemons"; o=$(sudo defaults read com.apple.loginwindow LoginHook); E "Login hook"; o=$(sudo crontab -l); E "Root cron tasks"; o=$(syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'GPU |hfs: Ru|I/O e|find tok|n Cause: -|NVDA\(|pagin|timed? ?o' | tail | awk '/:/{$4=""; print}'); E "Log check"; } 2> /dev/null | pbcopy; echo $'\nStep 2 done'
    This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which you do have to type. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Heed that warning, but don't post it. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
    You can then quit Terminal.
    To prevent confusion, I'll repeat: When you type your password in the Terminal window, you won't see what you're typing.
    Note: If you don’t have a login password, set one before taking Step 2. If that’s not possible, skip the step.
    Important: If any personal information, such as your name or email address, appears in the output of these commands, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    Remember, Steps 1 and 2 are all copy-and-paste — no typing is involved, apart from your password. Also remember to post the output.

  • Why has my computer slowed after updating with mavericks

    i updated to mavericks .since i did this my computer has slowed and i am also getting problems with streaming can i revert back to mountain lion.

    how much RAM do you have?
    how full is your hard drive?
    what apps are you trying to run when things are slow?
    do you have any crapware installed, like
    antivirus software
    defragmenters
    "cleaners"
    "optimizers"
    how long has it been since you updated? Spotlight may be updating, that can take a while, and things may be slow while it does.
    Boot into your recovery partition (hold down ⌘R at restart until you see the Apple symbol), go to Disk Utility, and repair your hard drive. While you're there, repair permissions too. OSX Tips Using the Recovery HD
    Try a safe boot (hold down shift and restart) : Mac OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode? . If this works, it means that the problem is with some third-party software you have installed.
    Try a test user account: Isolating an issue by using another user account .
    That is: if you want, we could try to fix what is wrong. Otherwise, you could certainly go back to ML if you want. How you would get there would depend on how your computer originally came, either with OS installer discs, or with the OS already installed. osx - Roll back from OS X Mavericks ( or any newer OS) to Mountain Lion - Ask Different

  • Why has Safari become disabled in both my iPad and iPhone?

    Since upgrading to Mavericks Safari has become disabled both in my iPad and now in my iPhone.  5 factory restores have not helped and that has been with the help of Apple support techs.  Anyone else experiencing this?

  • Why has simple become difficult?

    I have two identical databases one in Microsoft Access the other in SQL Server Compact Edition 3.5. Both are OLEDB compliant.
    The application I'm writing is designed to be a standalone tool, and changes made to the .NET framework made using Access as a backend data storage no longer practical.
    I remade the Access database as a SQL Server Compact Edition 3.5 database using the VB.NET IDE. To save the previous work I changed the Access data provider to the SSCE 3.5 data provider and matched the correct database to the appropriate data provider.
    Access Connection String:
    Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source="C:\Users\Mark\Documents\Visual Studio 2008\Projects\BindingCtrls\BindingCtrls\bin\Debug\objBkUp.ACCDB";Persist Security Info=False
    SSCE Connection String:
    Provider=Microsoft.SQLSERVER.CE.OLEDB.3.5;Data Source="C:\Users\Mark\Documents\Visual Studio 2008\Projects\BindingCtrls\BindingCtrls\bin\Debug\Archives.SDF";Persist Security Info=False
    The previously working code failed. I suspected a subtle difference between the databases. A developer acquaintance suggested I write both database schemas into XML files and compare them with a freeware text comparator named
    ExamDiff. In the interest of saving space I'm only going to show one column's differences between the two databases.
    Access DB column:
    <xs:element name="PCID" type="xs:int" minOccurs="0" />
    SQL Server CE column:
    <xs:element name="PCID" msdata:ReadOnly="true" type="xs:int" minOccurs="0" />
    As you can see the only difference between the two columns is: msdata:ReadOnly="true".
    The simple question is: Why can't I change the msdata:ReadOnly="true" property to false using the VB.NET Server Explorer tool inside the VB.NET IDE?
    They are suppose to be compatible. There is a flaw.

    I thought it would be helpful  for those who are interested to place the test application out on OneDrive http://1drv.ms/1hIMEPw , so you can see exactly what I'm doing.
    We will test the Access database, followed by the SQL Server CE database. All we are doing is activating one database, add two items; then do the same test with the other database.
    In the tests I ran the Access database worked without any problem. However, the SQL Server CE one blew up.
    In the frmBinding_Load event I have a section I partitioned off with dashes.
    'Function to build Connection string to Access DB
    'cnnAccessCtrlDB = objDBCnn.cnnOLDEB(strAppPath & "\objBkUp.ACCDB")
    'strDBInUse = strAppPath & "\objBkUp.ACCDB"
    'Fill DataSet; including all DataTables and data
    'dsAccess = objDBStuff.getDataSetAndFill(cnnAccessCtrlDB)
    'Function to build connection to SSCE DB
    'cnnSSCE = objDBCnn.cnnOLDEB(strAppPath & "\Archives.SDF")
    'strDBInUse = strAppPath & "\Archive.SDF"
    'Fill DataSet; including all DataTables and data
    'dsAccess = objDBStuff.getDataSetAndFill(cnnSSCE)
    For the first test we will active the Access database.
    'Function to build Connection string to Access DB
    cnnAccessCtrlDB = objDBCnn.cnnOLDEB(strAppPath &
    "\objBkUp.ACCDB")
    strDBInUse = strAppPath &
    "\objBkUp.ACCDB"
    'Fill DataSet; including all DataTables and data
    dsAccess = objDBStuff.getDataSetAndFill(cnnAccessCtrlDB)
    'Function to build connection to SSCE DB
    'cnnSSCE = objDBCnn.cnnOLDEB(strAppPath & "\Archives.SDF")
    'strDBInUse = strAppPath & "\Archive.SDF"
    'Fill DataSet; including all DataTables and data
    'dsAccess = objDBStuff.getDataSetAndFill(cnnSSCE)
    Press F5 to run the application. Press the Yes button to authorize item archiving on the PC where you are testing this application. Your PC will be different from mine.
    Once the form is up on the tree view control open up some folder and add at least two items to the database. Similar to the image below:
    As mentioned previously this one works. Now we are going to activate the SQL Server CE database like so:
    'Function to build Connection string to Access DB
    'cnnAccessCtrlDB = objDBCnn.cnnOLDEB(strAppPath & "\objBkUp.ACCDB")
    'strDBInUse = strAppPath & "\objBkUp.ACCDB"
    'Fill DataSet; including all DataTables and data
    'dsAccess = objDBStuff.getDataSetAndFill(cnnAccessCtrlDB)
    'Function to build connection to SSCE DB
    cnnSSCE = objDBCnn.cnnOLDEB(strAppPath &
    "\Archives.SDF")
    strDBInUse = strAppPath &
    "\Archive.SDF"
    'Fill DataSet; including all DataTables and data
    dsAccess = objDBStuff.getDataSetAndFill(cnnSSCE)
    Follow the same steps you did to run the application. When you add one item this occurs:
    First off you notice five of the six bound controls are empty, but it says one records has been added to the data set table. Select another item and press the plus button on the navigator control.
    An invalid casting exception gets thrown: "Cannot cast DBNull.Value to type System.Int32. Please use a nullable type."
    This bothers me, because according to Microsoft both of these databases are OLEDB compliant and should function exactly alike.
    I would be interested in what will happen on newer versions of Visual Studio.
    Thank you,
    MRM256

    I have had my mac for a few months now. Absolutely love it. We watched youtube and online tv constantly with no problems. Lately though streaming has slowed and the videos are constantly buffering. Is there something I could have downloaded that slowed my internet or computer down? Is there a program or software i should have that protects my mac?

  • Why has my ipad2 slowed down after 8.0.2 ?

    MMy iPad2 slowed to a crawl after installing 8.0.2. Everything takes seconds to load, emails open slowly, etc

    Try some basic troubleshooting:
    (A) Try reset iPad
    Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
    (B) Try reset all settings
    Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings
    (C) Setup as new (data will be lost if you do not have backup)
    Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings
