Why have a default user password feauture?

Hi,
I (understood) read in the manual that there could be a default user password -
28 BF 4E 5E 4E 75 8A 41 64 00 4E 56 FF FA 01 08
2E 2E 00 B6 D0 68 3E 80 2F 0C A9 FE 64 53 69 7A.
If the file is encrypted based one this key, readers can open the file without having to prompt for password though the file is encrypted. I want to know whats the point of this? It provides no security. All it ensures is the reader be sophisticated enough to have a security handler. I don't see the point. Is there any advantage of having such a pdf with default user password?.What was the motivation behind this?
Thanks

The Standard Security method of PDF supports TWO passwords - the user/open password and the owner/permissions password.  In addition, an encrypted PDF can have a set of rights (DRM) associated with it (eg. Don't print, don't copy, etc.)
If you wish to control WHO can open the PDF, then you assign a user/open password.  If you wish to allow ANYONE to open the PDF, then you leave it as the default.
Once the PDF is open (regardless of the open password), then the reader is responsible for respecting the DRM settings on the document.  However, if you are the owner of the PDF (and there is a permissions password), then you can get back FULL permissions by simply providing the owner password.
Make sense now?

  • Why cant i change user password or pwdlastset after delegation for only certain users in an ou?

I remembered a while ago I used delegate control to assign the ability to reset pwd and reset change on next logon.  It seems to work for some users but not others in same ou.  effective permissions shows I have write access to the attribute for
the user; see imgur link below.  the box for change pwd at next logon is gray.  attribute editor tab doesn't allow me to edit it either.  domain admins can change it.  I'm wondering what else I should check out cus everything I know says
I have the right to change it.

mydomain\Allow Reset Win Pwd   was used for delegation and the user trying to change the password is a part of that group. they are also a member of account operators

I think this is a problem with the user object rather than the ou.  Reasoning is that I can reset a password for a user in the same OU but not for another user in the same OU.  Two users, same ou.  I can reset one but not the other.
Effective Permissions shows I am granted permisiion to do so.
I believe the error was access denied when we tried to change the password via vbscript.
@seansobey - I applied the delegation at a ou higher in the tree.  I forget how I had it apply down the tree but I confirmed that the acl is correct
    and applied to the user
@Travis Vogel - It looks like the user with this problem is a part of Domain Users.  I think the ACL is applied to the user because it shows in
the security window and effective permissions shows I have permission to reset the password.  However, I see this other user is a part iof the builtin user group and the problematic user account is not.  I may try adding the problematic user account
to that group and testing.  It'll have to wait until tomorrow though.

I was able to log in with user earlywatch/support, and could see that SAP* also exists. But neither the default password "pass", nor "PASS", nor the password I chose for all SAP users during installation works for SAP. Does anyone here know the password for SAP?

Solved: Password was something like 06071992 or 19920607.

  • Discoverer default username, password and database??

    Hello,
I had posted this in the wrong forum so I am posting this again over here...
I installed the trial version of the Oracle Discoverer Desktop on my machine. What is the default username, password and database that should be used to connect to discoverer?
    Thanks

As far as I know, there is no such thing as a default user/password and/or database for Discoverer.
The database could be any database you like, for example one that you have on your desktop. Then you should first create a user to own the EUL, grant required privileges to that user (see manual), start Discoverer Administrator, create the EUL, fill the EUL with whatever you like, grant access to it to the user you want to use, and THEN then can start Discoverer Desktop and start working...

  • Have a Mini with "Default User" account.  Can an admin account be created instead of using that?

I purchased an Early 2009 Mini on eBay.  The seller reinstalled Leopard on it (that's what it came with) after erasing his stuff on it.  He put "Default User" as the user name, but no password.  He said for security that I should make an account with a password.
When I upgraded to Snow Leopard, I thought it would have an option to create a user name and password.  It didn't.  Can I make up another user account as the administration account; then use a third user account for documents, pics, etc. (not to disturb the admin account) and forget using the "Default User" account?
I really hate to take the time to erase and reinstall Leopard and Snow Leopard just to remove the "Default User" account.
    Thanks.
    silverado93

In order to create another account the account you are using needs to have admin privileges.  Does it?  If so you unlock the Accounts prefpane by clicking the lock in the lower left and entering the admin password (hence the reason the account you're using needs to be an administrator).  Then you can create other accounts and click the checkbox for an account that says "Allow user to administer this computer".
Not you can change the admin password for an account by using booting from your installer disk.
Now having said all that are you currently in a state where you have a single account that is not an admin account?

  • What is the default user name and password for oracle databse 10g

Hi: gurus, I just recently installed the oracle 10g personal edition and trying to log on to the enterprise manger, but can't figure it out the user name and password, can some one help me and tell me what is the default user name and password to logon to the oracle instance. BTW during the installation I choose two passowrds one for the schema and one for the global database orcl. I wonder will I be using one of these passwords. Still I don't have any clue for the "User Name".
    thanks

system/manager and sys/change_on_install are still valid default passwords when database is manually created. If DBCA was used, passwords will be those defined at creation time inside DBCA.
In case passwords have been forgotten, those can be reset:
From an OS commnad prompt, set ORACLE_SID, ORACLE_HOME and PATH environment variables, just to make sure you are pointing to the right Oracle Home installation, and issue:
    OS> sqlplus / as sysdba
    SQL> alter user sys identified by yourNewSysPassword;
    SQL> alter user system identified by yourNewSystemPassword;
    And you're done with it.

  • Setting password for Autologon Default user in registry

    Hi friends
I don't know is this the right forum to ask this question:
me along with my colleges are doing some exercises to improve our learnings, so we have setup a test lab which has a test DC & 10 test client computers running windows 8.1
as we know, when computers join to domain, the item related to Autologon is removed from netplwiz.
I know that to be able to use Autlogon feature in joined computers, we can restore the above item by creating the required items via any method like the following:
    $regpath="HKLM:\software\Microsoft\Windows NT \CurrentVersion\Winlogon "
New-ItemProperty -path $regpath -Name AutoAdminLogon -PropertyType String -Value "1" -Force
    $regpath="HKLM:\software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon"
New-ItemProperty -path $regpath -Name DefaultDomainName -PropertyType String -Value %USERDOMAIN% -Force
    $regpath="HKLM:\software\Microsoft\Windows NT \CurrentVersion\Winlogon "
New-ItemProperty -path $regpath -Name DefaultUsername -PropertyType String -Value “administrator” -Force
the above lines provide required info for Autologon, except the password of the user.because of this we have to sit at every test client & open up netplwiz & manually enter the password for default Autologon user.
is it possible to define the password for this user as well in the registry?  so that we add it to above lines & save them as a PS script & run that PS script on our test systems so that we don't have to sit at each test client
& manually set password for default user for Autologon.
I mean I need when we power on our test clients, they automatically login via domain administrator credentials & be ready to use
    thanks

The documentation for this might prove helpful:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc939702.aspx
    According to the above:
If you disable automatic logon by setting the value of AutoAdminLogon to 0, delete the value of
DefaultPassword, which is stored and displayed in the registry editor in plain, unencrypted text.
(Hint: I found this very quickly by searching for "autoadminlogon" using a search engine.)

  • Why must I set the AD as "default user store " when use Kerberos scheme ???

    Hi ,
I am using kerberos scheme to authenticate user by OAM after user logged into the AD domain . It works well when there is only 1 AD domain ,for I can set that AD as the default identity store so that OAM can find user from the store and set the header .
But when there are two totally different AD domains with different users , there will be a question. That is , I can only set one AD domain as the default identity store. So when I use the other AD domain to visit webgate protected resource, OAM notice me the the user/password error. But if the AD user exist in both AD domains, it will be OK, because the user mapping is finished correctly.

It seems OAM must set the AD as "default user store " , and only if so , AD domain users can login to webgate protected resources by kerberos .
So, how can I make 2 AD available together ? Can you kindly give some advice? It will be very appreciated.
    Thanks !!

    1) Should my setup be defaulting to 32-bit compilersYes. On Solaris compilers generate 32-bit code by default
    2) I have read that adding -m64 to the compile command will make it 64-bit, is this accurate? It will make compiler produce 64-bit binaries.
Compiler itself will stay 32-bit ;-)
    3) Is there a way to set the compilers to default to 64-bit so that the user doesn't have to specify -m64?No. At least no compiler-specific way. Only UNIX general tricks (shell alias, shell script etc)
    4) Does everyone just use -m64 and forget about it?Yep. They have no choice

  • User created in DA 6.4-3 have no default Sent and Drafts etc

Why is that each user created from DA did not have default Mail Options : sent messages go to Sent , saved messages go to Drafts , deleted messages go to Trash automatically - not the Expunge option .
IMHO , these should be default settings for new user created from DA GUI console . Where can I fix this ? DA ? ldap/ldif-service package ? or Sun Convergence (doing it inside the Options > Mail > General for every newly created user can be a very tedious job )
    Here my info :
    Delegated Administrator (DA) 6.4-3
    Sun Dir LDAP
    #./iwcadmin -V
    Sun Convergence 1.0-10.01 (built September 6 2009 - 18:29:30)
    Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 7.0-3.01 32bit
    on Solaris- Bourne shell
    #uname -srv
    SunOS 5.10 Generic_137137-09

There is a known issue with Convergence patch 10 for new user accounts such that the first time the user logs into Convergence the default Sent/Drafts/Trash properties are not set.
bug #6885220 - "First time login to convergence can not save Draft/sent copy not saved"
Subsequent logins should have the defaults preferences enabled.
This is fixed in Convergence patch 11 -- you will need to log a Sun support request to get a copy.

  • Default user name and password on Stor.e Tv

    Hey,
I just bought a 2tb stor.e tv unit and have moved all my files onto it,i am trying to access it over the network and it is asking me for a user name and password but i have never set one!!!
Does anyone know the default user name and password OR do you know how i can set one up?
Also has there EVER been a firmware update for this thing?
Best thing i can tell is that there has not been one since 2010.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!!
    Cheers Guys,
    John.

From my knowledge the StorE TV is not secured with any passowords.
I think that you should try to set Stor.E TV to its default factory setting.
To do that, you have to go to the Setup -> General Setup -> Default.
But if it fails and the Store TV is not able to boot then this may be a hardware malfunction.

  • Default User name & Password for NETWEAVER

    Hi Everybody,
I am a Basis Admin in my company working with ABAP Stack installed in my Server.
Now I have installed Java Stack for Netweaver in a Separate System to Understand the Functionality of Netweaver & its Concept.
Now the Problem is i am not able to Login Netweaver. I dont know the Default User name & Password for Netweaver after installing it.
Also, what are the Main features of Netweaver Compare to ABAP Environment
Could somebody help me to Understand Netweaver and its Default User name & Password to login?
    Thanks,
    Siva

    Hi
The default asmin user for your Java add in would be J2EE_ADMIN and guest user would be J2EE_GUEST.
The default password would be the password you provided at the time of installation.
Regarding information on Netweaver Java, follow link:

  • Why do I have to enter my password everytime I open iTunes?

Why do I have to enter my password everytime I open iTunes?
The only time I don't have this issue is if I open up iTunes within a few hours of signing in. If more than 10+ hours, I have to sign in with my password.
I can't see an area in the preference panel where I can bypass this step.
It makes sense if I'm in the iTunes store and purchasing a song, but not if I simply want to listen to an existing playlist.
    Any help would be appreciated

Actually, the only thng that will do is set the frequency of requiring the password once it has been entered the first time. The default (I think) if restrictions are NOT turned on is fifteen minutes. Regardless of this settings, the AppleID password will need to be entered at least once (more if there is a substantial amount of time between purchases.

  • How to change user password from default realm programaticaly

    Hello,
I would like to know if there are any ways to change a users password from a file
realm through java classes ie . programaticaly.

    Thank you for the support.
After looking at the code, I noticed RealmManager is not documented in the BEA
Javadocs. Am I missing something or is it not documented. Lot of other methods
also not documented. Do you have the latest Javadocs?
    Thanks
    John

See message #4589 - it posts the code magic needed
to change the password. The caller doesn't have to
be aware of which realm is being used - that's taken
    care of for you.

Ditto. Guest accounts shouldn't have a password. No way to enter one in System Prefs...
