Why I have lost faith in Apple.

Hello,
My name is Matthew, and I'm an apple service technician working in Australia. I just wanted to post a topic expressing my utter frustration with Apple inc. As a Apple Technician I am obviously exposed to thousands of Mac's and apple products with issues each month, and as an apple certified technician i was proud to be representing a company that I thought stood for innovation and more importantly a company which was in touch with its end user. I would always defend apple in any context, wether that be it's support for open source standards to its superior OS.
All of this changed when I recently bought an Apple TV. First time I plugged it in was in a friends enhanced def widescreen CRT, it wouldn't stay synced. Even worse The apple TV magnetized the CRT's panel, distorting the color to one side. I was left a little red faced, trying to explain the concept of magnetic shielding to my friend and assuring him that this must be a odd lemon. I contacted apple and put the apple TV in for repair.
I was eagerly awaiting my replacement, and it arrived today. I brought it home, and plugged it in. The Apple TV, like the first one would not connect to my wifi network. It won't connect to it using WEP, WPA or even an open network. Where as my macbook and my partners macbook pro both show full network signal. I had a spare (Dlink wireless g) router on hand, so i thought i would shelf my current (linksys wireless g) router and give the Dlink a shot. Same issue. Will not connect.
So I contaced Apple support. They put me through to an "apple TV specialist". Who basically treated me like I was an idiot. He told me that Apple "does not guarantee that the apple tv will be able to connect to a wireless network" I told him that as a service technician - if a client brings in a macbook that won't connect to multiple wifi networks (using different routers) then we either diagnose the machine to have a faulty airport card or a corrupt system. And NEWS - the apple TV is just a mac. It uses the same hardware as a mac, it uses the SAME airport cards as a mac. There is NO REASON why it should not connect to a wireless network.
His solution - "I'm sorry, i can't help you unless you buy an apple router".
I was left upset. Because, i felt like apple had just spat in my face. I didn't buy an apple tv (and pay over $400) only to be slugged with a bill for a router. My router works just fine. It works with every single device known to me except my apple TV. Why should I have to buy an apple router to make their product work? It makes no sense. Same hardware, different router brans, and second apple tv with same result.
I will not buy one more single apple product, and i'm resigning from my position.
I thought apple stood for more.... For someone who has spent the last 3 years of their life living apple only to be treated like this. It's just not right.

Former_fanboy,
Focus on your network setups and interference oth hardware and software contributed. don't dwell on what I said and find flaws with what I said. Mine is a very complicated network. I had to work hard for three days to get it ironed out but I did. It was interference and software setup.
I'm not saying that the CRT problem is going to go away but I do say that it was most likely a top priority to check. How many people would buy an Apple TV and connect it to a CRT, a type of TV which in the USA is going to go away very soon.
I have no issues with Take 2: I use a TC as my main router and wireless N 5 GHZ with two Extreme N bridged and set up for wireless N+B/G at 2.4 GHZ. One Express connects to one of the bridged routers with an xbox360 wireless to that Express. A HP laserjet USB to one of the bridged. Vonage to one of the bridged. A Lacie USB external hard drive to the TC. 5 Macs connecting wired and wireless and one windblows notebook.
I'm getting 15M/sec ethernet to TC. 11.15 M/sec wireless to Apple TV. A Powerbook G4 streaming to the Apple TV through one of the bridged routers.
I did not need an Apple technician to set this network up but I did have problems and they are corrected. I might add that darn near all of the problems were user induced. Where to place the hardware(interference) and how to configure the software(interference). That's not Apple's responsibility; its the users. That's why there are people like you, an Apple tech to assist others would need the assistance. This technology is complicated and I don't long for the days gone past because that was complicated also.
Now keep the faith and do your job.

  • I have lost respect for Apple and AT&T

I canceled my iPad order because of this deal with them eliminating the unlimited plan. I placed my order for my iPad on May 26th and it wasn't due to ship until June 15th. I think Apple purposely delayed my order until after the change in the plan.
I also heard at work that some of the iPads might be over heating. They shut off outside from what I have heard. I don't know if there is any truth to that or not. All I have to say is shame on Apple and shame on AT&T.
I bought the Google Nexus One instead and I think I will be much happier plus I am paying a lot less for the device.
To be honest, I feel like I dodge a bullet here.
I don't know what you guys think, but those are my feelings.
    Matt

Oh I know, but on the other side of the coin. The Nexus will be easier to carry around.
Good and bad. Either way what is done is done. If you would like I can still let you know what I think of the new phone. I get it tomorrow.
    Regards,
    Matt

  • HT4623 Why on earth don't you tell people to back up contacts and photos before they update software? There was no mention of the need to back up until it was too late. I have lost hundreds of valuable phone numbers and photographs.

Why on earth don't you tell people to back up contacts and photos before they update software? There was no mention of the need to back up until it was too late. I have lost hundreds of valuable phone numbers and photographs.

The update process DOES back up contacts and photos, unless you interrupted the backup. The manual tells you to sync contacts to an app on your computer, and to import photos regularly to your computer. So Apple DID tell you to back up, you just didn't bother to read it.
If you didn't sync yet (and even if you did) connect the phone to your computer, right click on its name, and choose "Restore from Backup". If there's more than one backup choose the one with a timestamp before you updated.

  • I lost my contacts, texts etc after syncing my phone to itunes for first time since 2012, now all I have is info. starting from 2012.  Is there any way to recover the contacts, texts etc that I have lost for the last 2 years? So ticked off at apple!

I am hoping that someone can help me understand how it can be so easy to lose the last 2 years data on an iphone by synching to itunes for the first time since 2012?  If this happens from itunes automatically overwriting your phones system why would'nt there be warnings and red sirens going off on your phone?  Can somone please let me know if this lost data is recoverable and maybe even let me know how to recover it?
    Thank you

Glad to help!  The reply you got was very generic and didn't completely address your questions.
Basically, all it said was to restore your backup.  What I addressed was your query about how and why this happened. iTunes did give you prompts and warnings. And if you'd used iTunes back in 2012, then you'd have lost much less data when you made the incorrect selection.
Do you have an iCloud backup?  Were you backing up your device at all?
I just found it amusing that you were 'ticked off at Apple' when Apple didn't cause this problem.  You did.
    Have a great day!

  • HT201317 Someother contacts and photostreams were uploaded to my iphone and mine were lost why does this happen to my apple id?

Someother contacts and photostreams were uploaded to my iphone and mine were lost why does this happen to my apple id?

The "system" performed as designed. All devices syncing to one iCloud account are kept in common sync. The idea is that all such devices belong to one user. Different users should have different iCloud accounts.  Once your contacts were edited, all devices were updated as well and subsequent backups (from yours and her device) reflected the changed contacts (and any other data that may have been edited like calendars). Your first task is to change your daughter over to a new account before she makes other changes.
The only way I see for getting back contacts is to restore them from a time machine backup, assuming you also have a Mac included in the account which syncs the contacts. However, I'm not sure whether time machine includes contacts from iCloud along with those that are local, "on my Mac".
Otherwise the deleted contacts are gone.

  • WAKE UP APPLE; YOU HAVE LOST THE PLOT!

Wake up Apple...you have lost the plot!
Obviously Apple does not currently use or test their products properly.
    1) Why would you redesign the iPhone and put the headphone jack on the bottom of the phone; where you hold the phone to use the home button. Really annoying.
    2) iTunes is now almost unususable; It takes forever to load and often freezes. Either it is poorly coded or they are doing some untowards stuff in the background that interupts/delays the programme from loading properly. Truely crap.....
    3) The redesigned iTunes interface is very confusing and not intuitive. I have figured out how to use, but it wasn't easy and I'm a professional web user experience strategist.
    4) The redesigned iTunes is missing some important functionality, i.e., the ability to see song totals and selected songs total weight/size. This makes it difficult to manage a large music collection.
5). Poor navigation functionality in the new iTunes; when you click 'see all' in any section, click on an album or song and then try to go back, you are sent to the category home page and not the 'see all' page. Frustrating....
    6) iPhone 5 68G phone can not be fully loaded without the music player breaking (previously posted with may similar complaints).
    7) I have all kinds of problems with the iPad 1 connecting properly to the new iTunes; iTunes continually tries to replicate files that I deleted directly from the iPad.
I suspect Apple is no longer driven by quality, but by release dates (the crap IOS maps programme is another example). I suspect they will continue to miss their financial targest until they WAKE UP!

I love the new version of Grid view but some of the other changes feel like they still need some fine tuning. And I miss cover flow even if I didn't use it that often...
You can restore much of the look & feel of the previous version with these shortcuts:
Ctrl-B to turn on the menu bar.
Ctrl-S to turn on the sidebar.
Ctrl-/ to turn on the status bar.
Click the magnifying glass top right and untick Search Entire Library to restore the old search behaviour.
Use View > Hide <Media Kind> in the cloud or Edit > Preferences > Store and untick Show iTunes in the cloud purchases to hide previous purchases that you've deleted from your library. The second method eliminates the cloud status column (and may, perhaps, let iTunes start-up more quickly).
If you want to roll back to iTunes 10.7 first download a copy of the 32 bit installer or 64 bit installer as appropriate, uninstall iTunes and suppporting software, i.e. Apple Application Support & Apple Mobile Device Support. Reboot. Restore the pre-upgrade version of your library database as per the diagram below, then install iTunes 10.7.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to scan the media folder and catch up with any changes made since the backup file was created.

  • HT5149 Hi, I still have problems reinstalling Final Cut Pro even though I followed these steps. Didn´t find "com.apple.motionapp.plist" to remove though, but the others I found. Reason why I have to reinstall is because I have repaired my Macbook Pro hard

Hi, I still have problems reinstalling Final Cut Pro even though I followed these steps.
Reason why I have to reinstall is because I have repaired my Macbook Pro hard drive at a Mac Authorized Repair.
Short history of repair and my Final Cut Pro installation:
    1. Macbook Pro stopped working, sendt it for repair. Had the Final Cut Pro installed,
    2. Desided to try a MiniMac and recovered my backup with Time Machine, got the Final Cut Pro working.
    3. Got my Macbook Pro back from repair, did backup on this one as well. But this time only the files not the Applications.
    4. Removed the files as mentioned in HT5149. Didn´t find "com.apple.motionapp.plist" to remove though, but the others I found.
    5. When I try to install Final Cut Pro from App Store, it downloads the application as planned. But after download it won´t show in the Application folder nor in the downloads folder, nor will it start an installation prosess. If I pause the installation in App Store, I can see the Final Cut Pro icon in my Dock. (But, as mentioned, after installation it won´t show neither here or in the Applications folder).
Any suggestions on what I should try now?
Thanks for any reply, I´m in deep water here...

Sounds like there is a file you're not getting.  Never do a removal manually.  It's so time consuming and a pain.  There's a very easy and fast way to do this, safely, properly.
Get the free "Final Cut Remover" app from Digital Rebellion (dot com), use this to remove FCP X.
    Reboot the Mac.
    Download from scratch.
If you're not seeing FCP X in your app folder, run Disk Utility to Repair all drives.
If that doesn't help, try running Disk Warrior from Altsoft to repair the directories on all drives.

Not using any mouse pad, I have a very smooth desktop. But I just tried to use a sheet of A4 printing paper, but no result, the problem persisted.
Someone on this forum suggested, that USB3 may interfere with the magic mouse.
I have 2 LaCie HDD's about 70 cm away from the mouse, I use them on Thunderbolt. But in operation or not - the result is the same, the mouse plays up! Just now I was clicking the desktop and the mouse created a new folder!!
    Thanks for the advice, Bee

Please help me get back my iPad safari bookmarks. I have contact Apple but could not set chat session. Please help me get my iPad safari bookmarks back, thanks.

Hi, I quitted Safari and press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons silmutaneously unti the Ipad turn off and on with the logo Apple appears but it has hanged on and fixed to the point. I do it again hold the Home and Sleep buttons silmutaneously and the Ipad turn off and on again with the Apple logo but it still is hanged on the same point. I have do it a few more time, it still hanged to the same point for few hours with no change (like picture):
I think my Ipad is fault now. I guess I must connect it to the computer with itune, or something. So my case is this: at the moment everytime I hold the Home and Sleep buttons the Ipad always off and reappear with the Apple logo and be hanged on (like the pic), and I need restoring my Ipad Safari bookmarks... so I guess I need using Itune or something to get back the Ipad then using Icloud or blah. Please guide me for the step, Im not sure if connect to PC, if any that my Ipad data would lost, or is there anyway that I also can get back Ipad Safari Bookmarks after connecting to PC, also the how using Icloud. There is no Apple store or service store in my country so I think I must do it my self. Feel free to share your guide, thanks.

  • I have two phones with one apple id i have lost most of my contacts from one of them

i have two phones with the same apple id but i have lost most of my contacts from one phone

Apps are tied to the Apple Id they were purchased with. So any updates for the Apps will ask for that apple ID to update.
The only way to prevent this is if you remove all the Apps that were purchased with your ID from the iPad.
