Why is Apple Mail sending in plain text even when rich text is set as preference?

I have Verdana selected as my Message Font and the Composing Message Format preference set as Rich Text, yet Apple Mail sends new messages in plain text (Monaco). When I type the message it shows in Verdana. When I check it in Sent Mail, it is in Monaco. When I choose Send Again, the new massage appears in Verdana again, but after sending it is in Monaco. Also, The received message in in Monaco. I've tested this with other fonts and font sizes and the same thing happens.
How do I fix this?
Note: Mail correctly replies in the same format as received messages. Only new mail has the plain text problem.

I suspect that for each one you need to go to Format > Make Plain Text

  • Why does apple tv always connect to itunes even when I own the movie and it is on my computer?

So I have my entire itunes library on a HD that I bring with my laptop back and forth. My problem is not at my house where I have an internet connection, but it is at my cabin in the woods where I do not have an internet connection.  Why is my apple tv always trying to connect to the itunes store whenever the movie I am trying to play is on my computer and on the network?  I have an airport express setup creating my network, but like I said I do not have an internet connection.  I am just using the AX to give me a wifi network.  It is constantly looking for the itunes store.  Is there a way to bypass this, or is this a Apple security feature?  Thanks

I understand that point. They are mostly bought from iTunes. But, I can watch on my laptop, iPad, iPhone on an airplane or wherever without an Internet connection. So why the hang up on my apple tv, should it not just be an extension of my laptop?

why did apple mail get much worse with lion osx?  I can't add recipients without copy and paste?

I went through updates on my three newest Macs this week.  As I stated I'm talking about iTunes 10.5.1 (42).  I am checking for updates now and I see 10.5.2 is now available.  I'll know in about 15 minutes if this issue is fixed or not.
    15 minutes later:
I must have updated this PPC G5 a day or two before iTunes 10.5.2 came out.  I was able to update to 10.5.2 (11) and this copy/paste bug is fixed.  I'm happy again.

  • Why does Messages still send my txt via SMS when I have the "send as SMS" option turned off?

Why does Messages still send my txt via SMS when I have the "send as SMS" option turned off?

I haven't missed any point, but you don't get it.
If people take "Send as SMS" being turned off as the iPhone shoiuld not be sending SMS messages without reading this text that is included below the option:
Send as SMS when iMessage is unavailable. Carrier messaging rates may apply.
    They are idiots.
But you're saying you have this other piece of information that tells you that this option only applies to two iphones exchanging txt.  Where did you obtain such information?
    Copied from my previous post.
Under the Send as SMS option, the following is available:
Send as SMS when iMessage is unavailable. Carrier messaging rates may apply.
You should check available text below an option such as this so you know what it does.

Why my apple write the item is over 20mb when i want to buy item? What shall i do to download item over 20 mb its a new problem

It usually means you're connected to a 3G network and the cell provider won't allow a download that big over the network. Try to download it when you are connected to a WiFi network.

graphics convert but not text even when ocr is disabled

Hmmm... I seem to have found the plist file that is doing it. I was looking at /Library/Application\ Support/Apple/Remote\ Desktop/ before... looks like /Library/Preferences/com.apple.ARDAgent.plist is the culprit.
This plist is a binary, so I had to use plutil to convert to xml in order to make it human readable. I wonder if I can just hack this file up a bit and re-deploy it to each machine. Or I wonder if it would re-build if I simply remove it from each client. I will need to test to find out, seeing as though the task servers are listed in it, probably not a good idea to remove it all the way.

We've been able to reproduce that Flash ads, that are currently animating, block text input into rich-text areas.  Has anyone heard of this?

I should add, they do not block all text input, just every 10th (or so) character.

  • Why is it YouTube loads really slow sometimes even when I'm connected to wifi ?

Why is it YouTube loads really slow sometimes even when I'm connected to wifi ?

Hard to say. The speed of your Internet connection. Congestion on YouTube's servers, problems at any point in between you and them... When you are connected to WiFi, you will get a substantially higher resolution version of some videos than you do on 3G.
Are you using the youtube app or are you just accessing it via a web browser.

  • Why does Apple Mail preview pane display only sender's first name?

Some, but not all, of the mail I receive shows only the sender's first name in the preview pane. I've checked the three areas others have mentioned as possible sources of the problem: 1.) Both first and last names appear for these senders in my Contacts. 2.) None of these senders appear with only first names in my Previous Recipients list. 3.) The full headers don't show first name only.
When I used Entourage, emails from the same senders never showed only first names in the preview pane.
Is this a bug in Apple Mail? Is there a workaround?

I came here looking for a similar answer. Some of my HTML messages show up just fine in Mail 3.5. Others, I get the plane text alternative or a bunch of raw HTML. With no answer in sight on the Discussion groups, I decided to look at the raw mail message of one of the offending emails.
Under the View menu I found a sub menu called Message then there are 6 choices beneath that:
    *Long Headers*
*Raw Source* (which is what I was looking for)
    +(and then below a separator I found a surprise!)+
    *Plain Text Alternative* (grayed out)
    *Previous Alternative* (grayed out)
    *Next Alternative* (available)
    *Best Alternative* (available)
Only the appropriate ones for the current message display format are available.
So low and behold selecting "next" or "best" changed my message into fully readable HTML format with pictures, formatting, etc.
I am assuming that something in the way that the multipart MIME message is assembled by some senders' systems does not sit well with Mail. I'm not going to bother figuring it out, but I'm sure that close examination of the raw message would give some clues.
Now if only I could figure out how to choose the message format based on the sender, I could eliminate having to change every message that comes in from that sender. Maybe AppleScript and a Mail Rule?

  • Apple Mail send but cannot recieve

I've got a Macbook with a Snow Leopard running on it. Apple Mail sometimes has troubles to connect to gmail server to recieve new messages. On the other hand, I don't have problems to send even if I can't recieve.
I don't know what causes the problem but it solves itself when I reboot the machine. Any ideas of why is this happening? I've got Apple Mail v.4.6
    Thanks!!

This may not help, but a few months ago I was trying to send a message to members of my professional organization, but kept getting a similar message. I exchanged correspondence with Tech Help at my server to no avail. I thought the problem might have to do with the quantity of receoients, so I started deleting a few at a time from the list and resending. All of a sudden, it worked!
I finally narrowed it down to one address that had been preventing the message from going out. After I deleted and exactly retyped the address, I never had another problem. Never understood what had happened.

  • Apple Mail sending multiple copies of email. What's the cure?, Apple Mail sending multiple copies of email. What's the cure?, Apple Mail sending multiple copies of email. What's the cure?

Recently, my Apple Mail has been sending from two to six copies of email, timed to the same minute. I've taken to using Thunderbied (which I don't prefer) to avoid it. My theory is that if I can reload Lion it might cure it, but since Lion only comes as a download, I don't know how.
I've had MacKeeper in place since before the problem, but updating it became impossible. I emailed that program and was advised to trash it, do a cold reboot and then download it again. I did, and it hasn't helped.
    Any suggestions?

MacKeeper is so bad, it has earnt the distinction of a User Tip of it's own
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3036
After dragging the app to the trash, you will need to clean up using something like  AppTrap, AppZapper, AppCleaner etc. The official MacKeeper uninistaller leaves advert popups still appearing on your computer.

  • Why does apple mail keep running on my system, i never use it

My macbook pro runs Lion, the latest version.
For some reason, apple mail program starts up, and it is a program I have never used, nor do I plan to.
I made a trip into the store and they did a quit, but of course, that doesn't solve the problem.   No real
answer for why its starting, who/what starts it, and how to prevent it.
Each time its running I have to click 2-3 dialogue boxes before it will let me quit, and it prevents the machine
from going to sleep if its running and I'm not aware of it.
Apple told me they were using the mail program to synch between the iphone and the machine.   Although I did
install cloud, I do not use it.  My machine has so many problems, ever since I bought it, and I have had so many
trips to the apple store, without real explanations or solutions.   What has happened to the great produce we
knew and loved?    Complexity and the post-modern era are upon us.
I have logged 71 hours of tech support time on the iphone, so I no longer work on trying to solve that problem.
I actually work for a living and have no time for this.   The sad thing is I am in a position to recommend products
for my employer and some major new budgets in the health sector.  I loved my mac for years and years.. always
buying a mac, making arguments for macs when all around me had pc's, etc.    Now I am starting to doubt the mac.
I hope that by participating in the mac community there will be some simple answers, and I don't have to spend HOURS
of frustration for things that should not be a problem in the first place.    We bought apple one-one, but the website never
works, and although they told me to call to make the appointment, it is just the general number and there is 45 minutes
of scratchy music with someone who does not know how to make one-one appointments....
Sorry to ***** and moan here....       I'm sure I'm not the only one having these frustrations.

etresoft, I think you are being unnecessarily harsh to gloriastitz. She is frustrated and doesn't understand computers at the level you do. What she is experiencing is frustrating, so she is frustrated. I have been a help-desk professional for over 15 years now, and emotions are part of the business.
I know it has been over 6 months since gloriastitz posted her reply. I hope she got a useful answer, but I fear we have satisfactorily scared her away from seeking help.
So, the first best response to tell someone is that the problem they are experience is almost certainly fixable, but may require more information to solve. You tell them you understand their frustration (even if you personally don't experience frustration or don't understand why people my express frustration publicly about a problem that frustrates them). It's just good protocol.
Then you work with the person to break down the problem into steps. If you don't have a ready answer and don't think you might even know the answer with sufficient data, then back out and leave it to others to tackle.
I've been having a similar problem with my Mail program. The cause is still unclear to me after vieweing the logs and changing settings where I know them to be. There appears to be a setting that is not clearly placed in any of the typical UI locations for initiating the desired action for either a feed: or mailto: call.

I think you are. This is not a place to rant and complain. It will just encourage people to give you unhelpful responses. If you want to complain, go elsewhere. If you want help, ask for it.
For example, can you explain what those dialog boxes actually say? Regardless of who is starting Mail, it will not prevent your machine from sleeping.

  • Why are Apple Mail and Addressbook not listed?

In Support, neither Apple Mail nor Addressbook are listed on OS apps. And if you go to Feedback > Product Feedback, there are 31 apps listed, but Apple Mail and Addressbook are not listed there either. Mac OS X is, so you need to use that for these apps.
But I think the lack of listing is not so bad, but is indicative that Apple doesn't seem to embrace these apps the way it does it's other OSX built in apps. They are basically good apps. I use them as my default apps along with iCal in order to always be in sync with the latest OSX release/update. I used to use 3rd party PIM apps but then had to always wait until they released their update to be in sync with the latest Apple OS. After awhile I realized the smarter approach was to use Apple's software as much as possible since they will be designed to work with the latest OS upon the release of the latest OS.
But the built in apps: iCal, Addressbook and Apple Mail, while sufficient, are not full featured robust apps like their 3rd party competitors. I have to assume some this is financial since they are included in the OS where as 3rd party apps cost $40 and up, plus upgrade costs after a certain cycle lifespan.
Personally, I never want to use a calendar, contact manager or email 3rd party clent again so that I am fully in the Apple family with hardware and software all made to work together.
If the reason these type apps are not more robust is because Steven didn't feel we needed more, or because there are only so much design and programmng resources Apple can apply to essentially "free" apps, I would welcome a paid for "Pro" version of these apps to pay for more features.
Example: while iCal and Addressbook sync with all your devices, Apple Mail doesn't. Now that I have a new 2nd computer (MBP), I would REALLY love it if all my folders on the left column were identical on both my Mac Pro and MacBook Pro.
There are other feature requests I would make, and bet you would too.
I hope this is helpful to all and to Apple in terms of making their indigenous apps more robust for us, listing them in the OSX apps list in Support and Feedback and embrace them as signature Apple apps fully supported, developed and proud of.
    Just my opinion.
    Steven

Example: while iCal and Addressbook sync with all your devices, Apple Mail doesn't. Now that I have a new 2nd computer (MBP), I would REALLY love it if all my folders on the left column were identical on both my Mac Pro and MacBook Pro.
My Mail syncs, I don't know why yours doesn't. All the folders on the left of my Mail App are identical on all of my Macs and my iPhone.
In Support, neither Apple Mail nor Addressbook are listed on OS apps.
Granted, Contacts (No longer AddressBook) is not listed.

  • A new clue to the Apple Mail sending problems?

In my continuing efforts to fix the SMTP/POP mail failures with Apple mail, I've noticed a glitch that some of you more advanced readers might be able to decipher.
After lots of fruitless messing around with port numbers, preferences, and keychain fix attempts, what did work for me (temporarily) was a cleaning out of all the servers listed on the mail account options window, and then putting the original names and other info back in. Somehow, the mail app is spontaneously generating multiple combinations of server names, usually the original server name, plus a user name, the server name again, or some other redundant combination.
As I use mail to manage two separate POP accounts, sometimes it also creates hybrid server names by combining the server/user name pieces across both accounts.
This appears to happen entirely on its own; I had mail working for about 90 minutes, then it fell into this problem again. I'll probably have to keep cleaning it out, like a boat owner scraping barnacles off the hull, until Apple offers some kind of a patch.
Has anyone else who has the nagging "can't send SMTP mail" problem seen this phenomenon in their server/account preferences specs? If so, any ideas on how to stop this madness?

You haven’t said what the problem was in your case, i.e. what error message did you get when sending, if any, whether the mail account and the associated outgoing (SMTP) server were provided by your ISP or by someone else, etc.
Mail doesn’t spontaneoulsy generate outgoing server entries, but it keeps information about outgoing (SMTP) servers in a separate list independently of the mail accounts themselves. The account settings just associate one of the available outgoing servers with each account. Deleting an account doesn’t remove from the list the outgoing server that was associated with it. Orphaned or dangling outgoing server entries (i.e. not associated with any account) sometimes cause weird sending problems, and could very well have been the problem in your case as well.
As you appear to have already found out, you may go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Account Information > Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP), choose Edit Server List from the popup menu, and delete any servers that shouldn’t be there — the Edit Server List panel shows the account each outgoing server is associated with.
