Why is FCP now outputting my mov's with a -av.mov1 file attached?

anyone know why fcp is now outputting my mov's with a -av.mov1 file attached

I lost power while doing a live capture one time and managed to recover one of those -av files. I just remember I had to jump through hoops to get it to play again.

I know what your'e going through, Gary.   OSX 10.6.7 is an absolute disaster.   Since I upgraded, I've had problems in FCP, Logic, Garageband, even issue dealing with peripheral hardware like external monitors.
Before 10.6.7 my system was running fine.
I've brought this up with Apple repeatedly.   They smile and shrug.   They've been helpful resolving the issues, but none of them has been easy to solve.  I have spent days, dealing back and forth with tech support, sending logs, etc., before solutions have been found.
I wish I could give you an answer to your question.   My only guess is that Apple has totally dropped the ball on this one.   In the future they should provide a disclaimer when they offer an upgrade.  Something like:   "Caution: all of your software may not function after this upgrade. But go ahead, you'll feel cool that your OS is the latest thing."
As someone who has been with Apple for close to 25 years, I'm disturbed by what appears to be an increasing sloppiness in their work.   This is especially disturbing when you depend upon their system to make your living.
    Good luck.

  • How do I move folders with subfolders (containing pdf files) from my pc to ipad 3 to use in adobe reader

How do I move folders with subfolders (containing pdf files) from my pc to ipad 3 to use in adobe reader

You need to connect the ipad to the computer and open itunes.
Open the ipad and go into settings, icloud. Tap on "Documents and Data" and turn that on to sync to icloud.
Now go back into itunes and it should pick up your ipad already and tap on the ipad connection. There will pop up some taps on the center screen for sync options. Go thru each one (summary, info, apps, music, tv shows, podcasts, itunesU, books and photos).....you want to click on "Books".
To the left click the arrow next to the ipad under Devices.
The arrow will point down and open the sub menu, click on the "Books" sub menu here. You will see in the center window current books, PDF currently on the ipad.
Next go to the top and click on "File"  (file, edit, view, controls, store, advanced, help) and click on "add folder to library"...... it will bring up your computer file system in a seperate window. File the folder your looking for and add it. This should get the folder set up to sync onto ipad thru itunes.
For additional ease in doing things on the middle window of itunes click back on summary, scroll a bit and you will see "Backup", click on "Backup to icloud". Then under "Options", check "Sync with this ipad over WiFi".
This will allow you to wirelessly sync your itunes and your ipad without having the ipad connected to the computer with a cable. You just have to be on the same wireless network.
If in itunes you add something like a pdf or photo, when your on your ipad open the Ibooks or Iphoto app and it wull update the file system to match your itunes account. The sync with with anything you do in itunes and it works the other way around also. If you save files, photos, books on the ipad, using the ipad (app store purchases, games, books)....the ipad will update to itunes next time your on the same network.
FYI - both the ipad and the computer have to be on.
Itunes updates (changes you make thru itunes), does not need itunes to be open for update content to update to the ipad. This is because it updates to the cloud.
Updates from the ipad to itunes will need itunes open on the computer. So it can sync with the cloud info.

  • Why can't I import a .mov created with QT screen recording into FCX?

I created a .mov file with QuickTime's Screen Recording mode. The movie thus created opens in the QuickTime Player and plays fine, but when I try to import it into FCX's editor with File>Import, I get an error message: "File Error: 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown".
Why can't I import this .mov to edit it in FCX?
    Thanks,
    George

Bengt, I believe the OP's "FCX" does mean FCE.
Like Al said, they need to be transcoded (say, to AIC) in something like MPEG Streamclip, QT Pro  or Compressor.
Actually, FCP X will happily open them.

  • Why can't I select and move guides with selection tools?

I'm using Illustrator CC and I cannot select and move guides with the selection tools. The guides are not locked. I can select the guides in the Layers Panel, but I can only move with the arrow keys. I can also "Release" the guides once they are selected in the Layers Panel, but I still cannot move them with the mouse - only the arrow key.
    Summary of Problem:
    Guides are not locked.
Some guides can only be moved when they are selected in the Layer Panels and when using the arrow keys
Non-selectable Guides can be "Released" but only altered in color and line weight and still only moved with the arrow keys.
    Desired Outcome:
I want to be able to move all guides using the mouse for greater accuracy vs the arrow keys.
    Thank you for your help.

    Channing, anotherhead,
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

  • Why is my rendered color corrected movie pixelated with jagged edges after rendering?

    Hello All,
I am new short film movie producer and have just started using Adobe Premiere CS6 and Audition CS6.  Comparing my flat footage before adding it to a sequence and color correcting it and rendering it, it looks fair.  But after all these transitions it now looks pixelated along with very jagged edges.  This is my first short film for my first client and I am at my witts ends!  I have tried to copy the sequence and transfer it to a new sequence with differnt settings comparing the pixel aspect ration, fps, trying to match the clips specs and I am so stuck. Can anyone please offer any suggestions or let me know if there are procedures I have overlooked.  Thanks Adobe Community.
    Michael Diaz

Let's back up a step - what camera do you use? If it's an HDV model, then yes you have anamorphic footage. Simply choose an HDV sequence preset to match. If your camera shoots 720p or full 1920x1080, those are square pixel (1.0) formats and are not anamorphic (anamorphic does NOT mean widescreen, it means "stretched to widescreen" basically).
In any case, drag a clip to the New Item button for best results until you get more educated and confident about the different formats you may be working with.
If you copied and pasted the contents of the SD sequence into an HD sequence, all filters and effects you had applied before should remain intact and not need reworking, except possible for titles and things involving scaling (since the size has changed).
As for exporting, you typically will NOT want an anamorphic export, except for widescreen DVD. You will not see anamorphic mentioned though, just choose "MPEG-2 DVD" and an appropriate widescreen preset and Adobe knows what to do from there. For web/computer viewing, best to avoid anamorphic footage, since many players assume 1.0 PAR and do not adjust the image for non-square pixels. So if working with 1440x1080 footage, and exporting to web or YouTube for instance, export as 1920x1080 (1.0) or 1280x720 (720p) so the viewer sees the proper 16:9 output, or the image may be squished otherwise!
    Thanks
    Jeff

  • WHY? FCP wasn't broken. SO WHY?

I just wish I could understand the why behind FCP X.
FCP is (was) the industry standard and fit broadcasters to filmmakers to
production houses. It has (had) over 50% of the market share.
Apple was doing something very right and we liked it. Yes, there were some
minor bugs, but for the most part, the platform was easy and the tools were intuitive.
If the new FCP was very similar to the old, but with bumped up speed and
some a different color interface and a few new filters, transitions, etc... it
would have been a HUGE success with more people moving over to Apple
    and the FCP arena.
Now, Apple is risking losing their professional base. Some true believers will
stick it out and learn the new FCP X, get used to it and swear by it.
But FCP wasn't broken, it just needed more speed.
My emotions from this new release in order:
    1. SHOCK
    2. Disbelief
    3. Shock again
    4. Denial
    5. Extreme anger
    6. Sadness
    7. Resolve to move on to a new NLE program
Please Apple - do something "magical" and "connected" with your professional
base and make this right somehow. We all make mistakes, and I'm sure you can
take a lot of the good in the new FCP X and use it to help built what Final Cut Pro X
    should have been.

Andy - It's not an outburst, but the facts. FCPX is a prosumer version of the professional application that dominated the market and tons of edit houses, production facilities, tv shows, movies and news rooms for years.
Now, it may have the feature set being added back piece by piece, but the program itself is not ready for Primetime. Doesn't it make you wonder why the Mac Pro hasn't been upgraded in almost 3 years? Apple is moving away from the pro sector and for some, it's not a big deal. For those who based their livlihood around editing using FCS, FCPX is not a viable option.
To be specific, FCPX's "improved" organization is a nightmare for multi-bay editing environments. In our studio, we all edit the same footage and update the project file on the fly. We can email the saved project file and we're all on the same page. From what I've seen, and I could be wrong, you can't do this with FCPX. It's not meant for multiple editors, it seems it's geared toward one editor, making a really cool YouTube video for his buddies off of one hard drive.
Also, I use all digital media (HD XDCAM) but there are still a ton of people out there who don't. Yeah, I get it, THEY need to all update their gear and get with the program. But until they do, there are still a lot of tapes out there, in every format. FCPX does not support tape input.
And I know with some training it will make more sense, but the whole revamp of the timeline is comical to me. Again, I could be totally wrong, but is there multitrack editing? Not multicam, but stacking 10 layers of videos and moving them seemlessly whereever you want, leaving gaps if you want, etc. The new timeline (singular) wants us to make in/out points on all cuts and magnetic snaps things together when deleting. I want control of the timing of the clips and not constant suggestions. I want to be able to have 8 sequences within the project if I want with optional cuts on each, maybe one with all the footage, another with just interviews, another with B-Roll, etc.
It's going to be interesting to see how long we can use Snow Leopard and maybe Lion with FCS. I tried it with Lion and it was riddled with crashes, bugs and incompatible plugins.
I would be ok with all of this if Apple was at least going to continue the Mac Pro line, so down the road
we could get 16-core machines and use Adobe CS Production suite which is already at 64 bits.

You would think Apple to Apple would connect easy, I just wonder why on earth Apple has bluetooth to begin with if it wont connect.
Bluetooth does not support IOS device to IOS device connectivity.  It's intended to connect IOS devices to such things as wireless headphones, external keyboards and Apple TV, and probably a few more things that I can't think of right now.

  • 16x9 aspect ratio lost after FCP export to QT movie

I initially complained about the same problem when exporting from Motion to QT movie, then importing in FCP. This was fixed, and I really enjoy it.
I work 99% in DV anamorphic and all my Applications are set this way. It bothers me however that I lose my anamorphic aspect ratio when I export from FCP to Quicktime movie. Maybe I'm doing something wrong?
I hope this will be fixed in the next patch as it waists a lot of time correcting it manually. I often export from FCP and into QT Pro, fix aspect ratio and then off to the web. If anyone knows of a better way, I would appreciate the help.

No, you're not doing anything wrong - this is a quirk in the way that FCP writes anamorphic QT movies when using the DV codecs.
As you've discovered, the flag is not recognized by QT Player unless you export via QT Conversion and either set the display size manually or, in QT 7.1.0 or higher, select 16:9 output in your Movie Settings.
    Sorry if that's no help...

  • Why are L&R outputs uneven w/ Space Designer?

    Hi,
In tweaking my studio setup, I took this approach to balancing my monitors:
I loaded the TestOsc plugin - which gave a balanced L & R output within Logic as expected; I then adjusted the amps of each monitor speaker so as to properly balance them.
Then: I un-bypassed Space Designer on the Master output (with the TestOsc running) and discovered that it (Space Des..) is strongly affecting the stereo balance - as observable at the Master Out VU meters (& speaker output). The phenomenon is different with various individual SD presets...
    Why is this happening?
I'm concerned about creating my mix in a large orchestral template without an understanding & control of this phenomenon....
    Thanks, Wm

    Why is this happening?
Because Space Designer uses stereo *impulse response* files, through which the audio is processed into reverb. If you do not dial in any Dry signal (did you?) you will hear only the fully processed signal. This can vary enormously, as it is shaped by the impulse response file, which is effectively an audio file. It determines what happens to processed signal. Now if you only hear the processed signal, the differences between presets can be as big as the differences between any two audio files.
So... you may have to adjust the Dry-Wet dials on the right of the SpaceDesigner interface. to balance the reverb and the original signal.
Socalled Send presets have no dry signal dialed in, because sent signals should be fully processed and not 'double up' the original signal.
O, and on the left of the SD-interface is a slider to alter the stereo image, which can also be set to mono.
I'm concerned about creating my mix in a large orchestral template without an understanding & control of this phenomenon....
O, I also think that a test oscillator is not the best "guinea-rig" to try out a convolution reverb - unless you're seriously engineeringly measuring stuff, just try 'm with their intended instrument...

  • Pro Tools files imported to FCP X causing QuickTime movie problem

Well 2 days later and hours on the phone with Apple tech support Senior Advisors, and problem still not solved. HELP.
Everything works fine in FCP X, but when I create the QuickTime movie, it is way out of sync (by many seconds).
We have isolated the problem to audio files that I am exporting to Pro Tools, processing, and then importing back into FCP X. I can create a QuickTime movie with the original video/audio and it is fine.
    Information
The original video came from Canon HF M40 camcorder: AVCHD (using MPEG4-AVC / H.264 compression codec), MTS format. Audio is 48kHz, 24 bits.
I used ClipWrap to rewrap the video into ProRes 422 and decompress the audio and save as LPCM.
I simply provide this FYI. As I said earlier, the original video works fine and the resulting QuickTime movie works fine. So the original  files imported into the FCP project are not the problem.
The creation of the problem audio occurs as follows:
    - Detach the original audio from the original video, and export
    - Import this audio into a 48.0 kHz/16-bit Pro Tools HD session and EQ/limit the audio
    - Import the resulting audio into FCP X (exact same length file, audio waveforms aligned with the original audio).
This audio works fine in FCP. It is in sync with the video, everything looks great.
I ran Pro Tools at 16-bits because a senior advisor told me FCP runs at 16-bits but does not convert imported stand-alone audio (as opposed to combined video/audio) to 16-bits; thus the Pro Tools session had to be at 16-bits. I changed from 24-bits to 16-bits, and this didn't solve the problem. (FYI, when Pro Tools imports the original audio exported from FCP, it says the audio is 24-bits, not 16-bits).
    What is the problem?
The basic question is why does this audio cause QuickTime a problem?
Something is going on in the conversion to the QT movie. In FCP X, I don't have a way to play with the conversion variables except to set "Video and Audio" and "Use current settings" (which is ProRes 422).
The only difference I see between the original audio and the Pro Tools audio is that the original audio is stereo and Pro Tools works with dual mono files (L & R). The mono files work fine in FCP and I can't imagine why QT would have a problem with these, but I haven't tried converting the files to stereo before importing into FCP.
I should also mention that I selected the stabilization and roll correction algorithms in FCP. I assume these don't create problems in QT. I mention this because I didn't use them when I tested making a QT movie with the original video/audio files.
FCP and Pro Tools are used together all the time to do exactly what I am doing......improve the sound of the original audio. They are the premier video and audio professional programs. Of course, the final product is often not a QuickTime movie, but many times it is a QT movie.
What the heck is going on???
    HELP.

    (1) It is immediately out of sync. It even appears to be speeded up to me initially, but this is subjective. But it is clearly out of sync throughout, not a gradual drift.
    (2) When I create the audio files in the Pro Tools session, the files are automatically stored in the audio folder of the  Pro Tools session. So I don't actually have to go through an export process. I just close the Pro Tools session, then open FCP X and import the audio from the Pro Tools folder.
I'm not sure what additional specifications you seek, other than:
    - wav files
    - sample rate = 48 kHz
    - Bit rate = 16-bits (and earlier I used 24-bits)
    - Files are dual mono, rather than stereo (name_01.L.wav, name_01.R.wav). As I mentioned above, I have not yet tried converting these to stereo before importing into FCP, to see if dual mono causes an issue with QT. It does not cause a problem in FCP. I will try this today if we don't solve the problem.
    (3) I can upload a portion of the audio to a server and send you a link to the file so you can download it. Is there a way to private message on the forum so I can get an email address to send you the link?
    (4) The original video came from Canon HF M40 camcorder: AVCHD (using MPEG4-AVC / H.264 compression codec), MTS format. Audio is 48 kHz, 24 bits.
I used ClipWrap to rewrap the video into ProRes 422 and decompress the audio and save as LPCM.
The FCP Project was set up at:
    - Starting time code - 01.00.00.00
    - Format - 1080p
    - Resolution - 1920 x 1080
    - Frame rate - 29.97p
    - Audio channels - stereo
    - Sample rate - 48 kHz
    - Rendering format - Apple ProRes 422
