Why is iTunes so frustrating and un-user friendly?

Hi all,
I switched from an android phone and table to the iPad and iPhone about 6 months ago and cannot believe how much easier to use they are. I've not had one single issue with Apple's hardware and honestly don't think I could live without my iPad, it's my TV, my library, my stereo, my PC. I use it for absolutely everything.
However, iTunes for Windows is one of the worst pieces of software I have ever used. I have a 2.6ghz laptop with 8gb of ram running Windows 7. iTunes is constantly hanging up my system, crashing to the desktop, taking hours to do a simple sync and tonight I have encountered an issue where iTunes is refusing to import the mp3s I have asked it to.
I have booked a call for tomorrow morning regarding the latter issue, but I really just want to know why iTunes isn't as good as their hardware. It really ruins my user experience with my Apple products. How can they get their hardware so right and their software so wrong? The maddening thing is that unless I jailbreak my products I have absolutely no choice but to use iTunes to get content onto my devices.
I've done a Google search on iTunes problems and there literally thousands and thousands of people who have been experiencing these issues year after year. Funnily enough it appears to be Windows users that suffer the most, iTunes seems to run as you would expect it to on Macs.
I'm so frustrated that if my play around with my friends new Google Nexus tablet goes well at the weekend I may sell my iPad and iPhone and return to android, that is of course if the Nexus can do what my iPad can do, and do it well.
Does anybody have any suggestions on how to make iTunes work better or have any insight into the reason why Apple does not seem to be listening to the thousands of people complaining about the iTunes software? Any input would be very much appreciated.
Thanks,
A very frustrated and disappointed iPad lover!

I totally agree. I have been an avid apple user, iPhones, iPad, iTouch, iMac and apple tv... until I get to try Samsung Note 4 and was surprised how easy to configure everything. Apple keeps on changing the set up for itunes in so many ways that busy people really don't have time to sit down and learn with it. My last iPad 4th Generation will be the last for this and will jump into Android. There are more problems that I don't have time to elaborate but if people will see the difference, they will surely give up Apple and jump into Android. The hardware quality of apple and the battery life has been noticeably diminishing. The issue on Audiobooks purchased has remained one of the problems for apple users. You can't just download the audiobooks you already purchased easily each time there is an update on the OS. I have done my research and I see a lot of people facing problems with this. If you want apple.. you should have the time to sit down and update always the software, learn the new things that keeps on changing for the better but most often conflicts with other applications that they need to ask you to download again the newest firmware and so on until you realize the gadget that is supposed to give you convenience and comfort is now taking so much of your time and will be part of your routine. On the other side, Android is not restricted... it is merely like an external gadget attached to your computer. And that makes a huge difference. I hope Apple will hear this and make iTunes not a requirement to transfer files from computer to your gadget. TIME is valuable to us as well, what is comfort and convenience if you spend most of your time attached to your gadget just because you need to keep up with it. A quarterly update or twice a year update with a specified date should be an answer to this... We should be in control of our gadgets and not be controlled by it. Apple is in control of the user... while Android users are not enslave with the gadget but controls on how we want to use them. Huge difference on that perspective.

    I & a lot of my Thai friends are having a problem with the 4-row Thai keyboard coming with ios6. It is very tough & hard to type. We have more than 90% of typo. Is apple providing rthe old 3-row Thai keyboard to download? Please.....it is much better and more user-friendly.
    Well, your reply is much appreciate.
    Thanks.

    Can't agree more. I have no idea why they changed it. The old three row one was innovative and far easier to use. The vowels were all kept in one bucket button so they were easier to find. Wished people made more of a fuss so that they would add the old keyboard back and allow people the option to choose between the two. I no longer type in Thai as it's seriously too much effort.

  • Why are iTunes, View, Window, and Help menu items disabled?

    I am frequently encountering an issue in iTunes 10.5 (141) where all the menu items in the iTunes, View, Window, and Help menus are disabled (greyed out). Why is this happening and can it be stopped?
    I've seen this issue on different Mac OS X 10.7.2 machines. It seems to occur during playlist manipulation, where I'm making new playlists, adding items to them and editing them and the items. In the worst cases, I'm forced to quit and restart iTunes, although I have to quit by using the context menu option in the Dock as the Quit option is disabled in the application.
    I'd appreciate any advice on workarounds for this that don't involve quitting and restarting iTunes.

    I'm also having the same issue.  It was happening with 10.5.1 and now still with 10.5.2.  I'm using a 2008 iMac running 10.6.8.  I do not use iTunes Match.  This seems to happen for no apparent reason i/o/w, I can't determine a pattern as to when it happens, but it occurs about once in every 10 times that iTunes is open and it seems to happen after it's been open for a while, but again, no particular pattern.
    Sometimes, all the menu items are grayed out, and other times, 70% of the menu items are grayed out.  I can still use the other functionality in iTunes, but must must Quit from the dock (it quits gracefully and no Force Quit is necessary).  Relaunching restores eveything to normal for about a week.
    I work with technical diagnostic issues and can usually pinpoint a problem, isolate an issue, or determine a pattern, but this one has me stumped. I thought 10.5.2 might fix it, but no.  Maybe 10.5.3?

  • Is there a way to go back to the old calendar system rather than the one currently in ios7?  The ios7 calendar is cumbersome and not user friendly.

    Is there a way to go back to the old calendar system rather than the ios7 calendar?  The ios7 calendar in the iphone does not allow one to see the exact time of appointments in the month mode, it is not user friendly.  It's lost its flexibility.  How can I go back to the old operating system?

    I'm sorry, but Apple does not provide a downgrade path for iOS. Because downgrading is unsupported by Apple we cannot discuss it on these forums.

  • Why has iTunes become difficult and frustrating to use?

    I've been a Mac user for 6 years and have always loved them, but since the latest two iTunes updates I've found myself with my old Windows reaction - getting frustrated because it won't do what I want it to. (I'm on version 11.0.1 (12).
    When I search music in my library - either by track or artist - I expect to double click on the result and be taken to it. Now insted I have to right click and be given loads of options, and it still won't show up. User simplicity has always been the key to a great product in my opinion, and now it seems to be going backwards. Perhaps there's something I'm missing, but I don't think so.

    Hi,
    In search box untick search entire library and click on arrow where you can select all, song, artist, album or composer.
    Search works fine for me.

  • ITunes music permissions and new user on Lion

    Lately iTunes has been making me crazy.  I had to create a new user account on my iMac due to problems with my original admin account.  I tried to move my iTunes music library by changing where iTunes looks for the media in the original account and pointing it to the iTunes media folder in the new account.  I had keep iTunes music folder organized, did not check off Copy Music and said yes to the "Do you want iTunes to move your media to match the new settings blah blah blah."  It did indeed move most of the files to the new account.  Prior to that change I tried to change the persmissions on the music folder so that both accounts had full access then chose Apply to Enclosed Items.  In fact, what I really want is there to be no permissions restrictions on any of my files.  Now as I add my music files to the new User's iTiunes library, it no longer organizes the music like it did before.   I checked info on a random file and saw the permissions seemed crazy.  There were like sixentries, duplicates and one that said Custom.  I just want to no restrictions on this stuff.  Permissions are such a pain.  I am not at some company where only certain people can access certain stuff.  I want full access to everything regardless of which user I am in.  Please help me sort out this permissions stuff.  I have read extensively about them but obviously still don't fully get it.

    I did that but now iTunes will not organize the files, presumably because they are set to the previous user.  It will add them, but not organize, which seems like it would mean the new user is only set to read only while the other can read & write.  I have tried changing permissions then choosing Apply to Enclosed Items but it does not always seem to change everything.

  • Why does Apple continue to make their OS less and less user-friendly?

    This might be dead horse I am beating, but I didn't feel like searching the forum to see if this has already been discussed ad naseum. I'm really starting to lose my patience with Apple and their insistence on removing useful features from their OS.  I've already lost track of all the things that they have un-engineered in recent updates.  One of the ones that I thoroughly disliked was the removal of cover flow from iTunes... of course that is a program and not the OS, but just one example.  Now I am realizing that the column view in Finder has been changed as well.  Used to be that you could change the width of the columns at will and now they seem to be fixed and immovable, which really p!sses me off.  I don't like Icon, List or Cover Flow view in Finder and use column view almost exclusively and was always changing the column width to suit my needs, i.e. when the file name was too long to read and i could simply change the width to read it all.  Now I can't do that and I am really getting sick and tired of things that are really useful that I use all the time being taken away and it's like Apple is taking steps backward.  Probably 10-15 years ago, that was the norm for something like this, immovable columns and people b!tching about not being able to change the width and then we get that ability and now it's taken away again!  Why are they constantly regressing?  How is that improving the UI of their OS?  I just don't understand it....
    Please free to chime in, correct me or whatever...

  • Why does iTunes always crash and freeze on my iPad?

    Every time I access iTunes and try to select music or search, for example, it freezes and then crashes. I have restored the iPad and it was ok for a few minutes then did the same thing. Is there anything I can do as I would like to be able to download music, but at this rate I am considering using another service...?
    Any help would be very appreciated

    Hi there Ritchiet,
    You may want to try force closing all open apps and resetting the device as an initial troubleshooting step. Take a look at the articles below for more information.

  • Itunes App Store not so user friendly.

    When selecting a catergory from the App Store , example Productivity , the menu shows 3 sections - New , Whats Hot and All Iphone Apps.
    If I select New , Apps from several catergories are shown and not in chronological order. Sometimes apps from 2 years ago end up in this list.
    This is now turning me away from buying apps as I am finding it difficult to determine whats new and whats not new.
    Is this a univeral problem?

  • Little things that can make DIAdem more and more user friendly

    Hello,
    Here are the product suggestions I have for DIAdem, after going through the pain of creating a single report page:
    1. Option to set the background color of a header in a table (not the entire table)
    2. Option to prevent the column lines from going through the header section of the table
    3. Group objects together in Diadem, (like PowerPoint ?)
    4. Make DIAdem font size correspond to MS Office 's font size
    5. Option to make individual Column/Row lines bold and set background color for each individual column/row
    Thanks,
    Jay Gundavelli
    Honda R&D

    Hello Jay, I decided to mark your multiple suggestion as complete, because hopefully the important ones are solved with DIAdem 2015. Please create a new suggestion for the points you further missing.
    Details for new features in DIAdem 2015, related to your numbering above:
    (1) REPORT/2D Table: Individual background color for table header
    (3) REPORT: Grouping objects
    (5) REPORT/2D Table: Alternating background color for rows and columns, indiviual background color for columns, individual background color for rows and cells via script and events

  • New OS 7  is cheap looking and less user friendly now......

    Apple shouldn't release an update without first warning us of the changes that will occure with that update.
    Yes, they give a list of updates and make it all sound so exciting and wonderful, but without us having tried it first, there is no way to know if we're going to like it.
    I'm no longer able to resize and adjust my photos to be used as wallpaper.  That's just wrong!
    I don't want "work arounds", I want it to work flawlessly like it did just yesterday.
    Additionally, I can't stand the brightness on my screen either, it hurts my eyes now.
    I didn't see any mention from Apple that if you have difficulty with bright lights you might want to avoid this update!!!
    Now, it's almost a chore to use my iPhone and iPad.   That's not fair, and I'm stuck with it??
    I truly believe there should be a way to revert back if you don't like the changes that are taking place.
    Come on Apple, you have cheapend the looks of our once classy iPhones, plus we've lost features!

  • When I import a commercial CD itunes will create 2 identical albums and put all of the songs except one into one album and put the other song into the other album by it self. How can I combine them all into one album and why is itunes doing this?

    When I import a commerical CD Itunes will create 2 identical albums and put all of the songs except one into one album and put the other song into the second album that it created.  Why is itunes doing this and what can I do to combine them into one album?

    I found this to be somewhat helpful: Grouping Tracks into Albums
    What I did was to put in the same name for Album Artist in every track.  That seemed to do the trick (previously all those fields were empty).  It seems like a lot of work for a simple thing.
    iTunes knows (or should know) that these tracks were imported from one CD. So why is it relying on incomplete data from the gracenote database?

  • Sharing iTunes library across 2 Windows user IDs

    My Windows XP computer is set up with 2 user accounts. iTunes is installed and all of my music is stored in my Shared Music folder (this folder is in Shared Documents, which is accessible from each user ID).
    I want to be able to use iTunes from either Windows user ID. The problem is that iTunes creates and maintains 2 separate iTunes Music Library.xml files. When I'm logged on (user #1), iTunes uses the xml file in my My Documents folder. When my spouse is logged on (user #2), iTunes uses the xml file in her My Documents folder.
    This is problematic. If I add a new song to iTunes from my Windows ID (and the song file is placed in the Shared Music folder), it is added to my library and xml file. If my spouse logs on and launches iTunes, the song is NOT in her iTunes library. She has to manually add the file from the iTunes Add File to Library command.
    I'd like iTunes to use a single library that both Windows user IDs can use and maintain. I don't want to have to manually try to keep these in sync.
    I can't find any setting in iTunes for this, and the user guide doesn't even mention this topic. Any help is appreciated!!!

    TheMint,
    I think it works like this:
    The setting you describe is where iTunes will store the music files themselves (.aac or .mp3, etc.) However, iTunes creates an index of all of your music, and it uses that index to display all of your music in iTunes. The index file is called iTunes Library.xml
    The index is stored in the My Documents\My Music folder of the user ID you log in as. Apparently, you cannot tell iTunes to store this in a different location.
    So if you create an iTunes library under one Windows user ID, the index is created in that user ID's My Documents\My Music folder. If you then log in as another Windows user ID, iTunes does not see the index that was created by the first Windows user. Thus you do not see any of the music listed in iTunes.

  • Policies and Excluding Users

    I'm using Messenger 7.0.2 and have a pretty basic question (I hope). I have the following eDir structure
    <Organization>
    <School 1>
    <Office>
    <Staff>
    <Students>
    <School 2>
    <Office>
    <Staff>
    <Students>
    etc.
    My LDAPContainer object looks at everything in the tree (O=organization).
    I have a DefaultPolicy that permits Messenger Use
    I have a DefaultScope profile that includes the entire tree (*,O=organization).
    I'm attempting to exclude certain OUs from Messenger use. Toward that end, I've:
    1. Created a second scope (e.g., *,OU=Students,OU=Site1,O=organization).
    2. Created a second policy and left (and locked) the checkboxes to disable messenger.
    3. I've set the "Scope Profile" attribute for the policy for the new scope.
    4. I cycled the Messenger agents.
    Needless to say it didn't work. When I look at one the "student" users and click the "Novell Messenger" tab, I get a message that there is not policy associated with the Messenger object. I checked the template object but there are no Messenger options. I know I can select a bunch of users, assign the policy, and then it'll work but I have over 10k accounts in 8 different OUs and would like a better option. The documentation says I can go to the "Used By" attribute of my student policy and add them there but that's pretty clunky and requires maintenance.
    Any thoughts would be appreciated!

    Well, it's not perfect but I found a solution using (of course) JRB Utilities. Here's the procedure i wrote up:
    =================================
    Disabling Novell Messenger for Students
    Through the use of Messenger (NM) scopes and policies, Novell has a method for denying NM services to users (students, in our case). The application of the policy, however, is relatively arcane and not user friendly. Through JRB's setname, the policy assignment can be made to large numbers of users very easily. This procedure assumes a "no Messenger" policy already exists.
    1. Create/export a list of users or OUs to which the policy should be assigned. The file should look similar to the following (this example encompasses all students):
    ..*.students.<School1>.<Organization>
    ..*.students.<School2>.<Organization>
    ..etc.
    2. Run SetName to assign the policy to the user attribute:
    Setname @<input file> /a=nnmPolicyDN .StudentPolicy.PolicyContainer.MessengerService.NM .GW.<Organization>
    3. This can be verified on the Novell Messenger tab of the user objects.
