Why is stationery so kludgy?

I am not much of a geek and do not necessarily have all the know how that I need to make things work all the time: and the stationery features in Mail are stressing me out!
I have made some stationery and have it saved in the stationery folders and am able to use it when I start a new message, but when I am responding I am not able to attach my stationery to the top of the email. And when I use the stationery feature the formatting of the text is all over the place.
I want my emails to look professional and have a nice little banner/thingy at the top and (ideally) a nice little thing at the bottom, too. But it shows up differently on lots of different machines. SO I made an image in illustrator, figuring that would solve the font problem, and made that the top of the stationery, but it takes FOREVER to appear when I click on it in the "favourites" menu (and it is not big, the image is a small .jpg file) and, again, I can ONLY add that onto a new message.
What am i doing wrong? I read about adding lines of code and html stuff but that is just out of my area. There only seems to be one thread about this on this forum and there's no solution listed there. Anyone have any ideas?
thanks

I wouldn't have installed Tiger but I couldn't get some of the things from the Internet that were available with a new browser and a speedier connection. So, I installed Tiger and DSL. Now, I still have all the old documents and I want to be able to access them and use them as I had previously without have to shut down and restart the computer from OSX to OS 9.2.2. I don't have many problems using Word with the Classic that I haven't overcome, but some of the larger Excel documents that worked well in OS 9.2.2 are unstable with Classic. I also have Claris that I use for database. That is unstable with the Classic also, but works well with OS 9.2.2

  • Why won't Mail save stationery?

I just did a clean install of 10.6, and Mail won't save custom stationery I try to create. It does create the Custom category and shows what I saved there, but the text I entered is missing - only my signature shows up. The message has several of Mail's bulleted lists, but that shouldn't cause a problem. There are no graphics at all in my stationery.
Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? Any help would be appreciated.

    I've solved it!
When you have saved the stationery, and opened a new email, make sure you have NO SIGNATURE.
If you have 'None' in the signature drop down list, then the template will display fine.
If you have a signature automatically added to emails, it interferes with the template being displayed and all you get is the signature.
So start with a blank email and no signature, before you select your custom-saved stationery.

  • Why can i not open "show stationery" in mail

    Hello,
in my mail i cannot use „show stationery”  anymore. If i click on ’’show stationery’’  in a  new massage, the connection with my mail will be broken.
Recently i tried to save a photo in: ’’save as stationery’’and than i have had this problem . Does anyone know how to solve this?
    Thanks!

When I click on "Mail Help" and search for stationery, it tells me "
    Use stationery in messages
You can add a personal touch to a message by applying a stationery template; you can even include photos. For example, if you’re writing friends to invite them to dinner, you can apply the Dinner template to make your message look like a professionally printed invitation.
    HideApply a stationery template
In the New Message window, click the Stationery icon in the toolbar."
WHERE IS THE STATIONERY ICON IN THE TOOLBAR?

  • Why has the ability to attach photos in stationery been stopped

Today I tried to send a thank you message using Mail stationery with an attached photo and got the message that this can no longer be done and either remove the photo or the stationery. Is Apple trying to destroy what was a great system?

Maybe the network your on out there has issues.

  • How To Use Stationery With Mail Replies

The issue of using stationery files was one of the main reasons why I personally resisted switching to Apple Mail from Eudora 6.2.4 for many years. I use stationery files a lot in Eudora.
Now that I have begun to use Apple Mail after all of these years -- I've been a solid Mac user for 21 years -- while I have been able to set up almost thirty custom stationery files, and can use them in original messages that I create -- although it takes seven steps from the time that I hit the "New Message" button to the time that I hit the "Send" button, while this can be accomplished in Eudora in only three steps using the "Message With" or "Reply With" message commands -- I have found absolutely no way to use my custom stationery files in reply messages in Apple Mail.
Surely there must be a simple way to include stationery files in reply messages. Can someone here please point me in the right direction? From what I can tell, there doesn't even appear to be a way to add the stationery button to the toolbar that is located on the top right side of the reply window.
I am also disappointed that there appears to be no way to delete the built-in stationery files that I have no use for, and which are just taking up space.
Furthermore, I haven't found any way to rearrange my custom stationery files in the order that I like them. I want to place the ones that I use the most on the left side of the display window. As it is now, the one that I use the most is located on the very end on the far right side, so I have to scroll way over to use it.
Apple, will you please address these basic Mail issues. Considering how advanced Mac OS X is, I am rather surprised that Apple Mail is deficient in these areas.
    Thanks so much!

As much as I have enjoyed using Eudora over the years, sadly, it is now falling behind the times. Some time ago, I began experiencing certain problems in some email messages, such as links not being clickable when they should have been, or at least not recognizing a certain link format, which resulted in Eudora throwing an error message. In other instances, email messages that were formatted in HTML were not displaying properly in Eudora.
The minute that I switched to Apple Mail, both of these issues were resolved, and I was quite surprised. It really made me realize how old Eudora has become. And the supposedly "new" Eudora? Nope, sorry, no thanks! That is not the real Eudora. I have now grown used to using Apple Mail, but again, I would really like the ability to respond with stationery files.
What also bugs me is that you cannot use stationery files with attachments, unless those attachments are images. For example, try attaching a zipped archive to an outgoing message that uses a stationery file. Everything seems okay until you hit the send button. Then you get a message which informs you that you either have to remove the zipped archive, or remove the stationery.
In the second decade of the 21st Century, I find these various problems with Apple Mail -- including the problems that I mentioned in my previous message -- totally unacceptable.

  • Why doesn't the "sent" folder show shared emails of photos through iphoto? on iphoto?

Every time that I share photos from iphoto to friends/family through the share button//email option, I end up with no record of it in my email.  Why not?  Where would I see a record of what I have sent out to friends and family?

When you send from iPhoto you're using iPhoto as an Email client. It's a very basic one of those and has no sent box. Neither does it sync with your other Mail applications, so they have no way of knowing anything was sent. That's why.
Options: bcc yourself when you send from iPhoto. (There's an option to do that automatically in the Preferences) or use a different app. Mail, for instance, has a Sent box and many, many more templates than iPhoto. (Check out the Stationery feature)

  • Save as Stationery unavailable in Mail

I customized a stationery template that I had imported into Mail. Now I want to save it as a template, but "Save as Stationery" is greyed out in the File menu. Is there something I'm missing here? I've saved it as a draft, but want to use it multiple times.

Thanks, Gary, for the interesting idea but it won't work for me because the stationery I am trying to create contains a twenty address Bcc as part of my stationery. (That's the real reason I need this particular template). Following your instructions, I created a good "future" template and was just about to push the send button when I realized that twenty people will be getting a blank email from me. Not good as that tends to lower your "Sender Rating" with friends. ;-)
I don't know why this is so hard for Apple to do for us? Eudora did this so elegantly ten years ago.
It is virtually impossible to make an addressed template with an signature in Apple Mail. How wimpy!
Any ideas would be dearly appreciated.

  • Mail Stationery Appearing As Attachments!

    Hi,
I love the new Stationery in Apple Mail, however, I've noticed a problem. If I send an e-mail to someone on Google Mail, and they read the e-mail on the Google Mail website, the stationery shows up but underneath it are 1-3 attachments of graphics used to make the stationery. This is very messy.
Does anyone know why this is happening? A Leopard bug perhaps?

Sounds like Google mail needs some fixing.

  • HT1277 Editing a Stationery Formatted E-Mail in Mail

I created a document and framed it in one of the stationery formats.  It was then sent over to a friend for comments.  I can now no longer make changes to the document.  Whatever I try - cut, paste, creating a new paragraph is not possible.
I have also tried to move the text to a new document or a blank e-mail format, I can't make any changes.
Please offer any help.  Why would this be so restrictive?

Okay, one more update, just to not totally trash Mail.  I cut and pasted the text into a new e-mail.  The trick on editing is that you have to start from an existing sentence and then it will accept a change.  You can't put the cursor at a new paragraph point, the document won't allow a paragraph to be inserted.  It only inserts if you continue typing from the previous paragraph, go figure.
I was not able to put this back into stationery form, however, it went off the page and would not realign.
I was able to send out a plain e-mail and not have to re-type.
Lesson learned is that only when all text is perfect can you pretty it up.  After that, it won't allow for editing within the form and it won't align properly if you cut and paste into a new stationery form.
    That's it.

  • Keynote 6.0 build order has its own window. WHY?!

Does anyone agree with me that this is really insane?
Why can't builds integrate in the new right-hand-side panel?
Instead, they're forever going to be either in the way of something else, or I've got to make the window narrower and hang it off the side.
Am I missing something? It seems INSANE!

Well here's the workaround I used...
    Export Settings
I set Go to next slide & next build after... both to 0 seconds.
    Slides
I have no transition effects on the slides, but Start Transition Automatically, 0 s delay. (Not sure if it matters if you have no slide transition though.)
In order to time my slides with the narration, I added a shape to each page. The shape has no border and no fill, so it's invisible. I set a build on that shape - just used appear & set the timing of that to be after the last real animation on the page, delayed by whatever time needed (by trial & error). So if my animation is a line of text and then the audio continues for 5 seconds after that, I set the delay for my invisible box to 5 or 6 seconds.
Kinda kludgy, but it worked for me.

  • Stationery Pad for Pages and TextEdit?

    Hi,
I just saw the Apple video podcast about Stationery Pad and decided to try it out. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work with "container" document types, include Pages and .rtfd TextEdit files!
Is there a work around for this? For example, would it be possible to save a TextEdit/Pages document as one file, or is there a way to get the feature to work with, um, types that people might expect to make stationery/templates with?
Perhaps it would be better for me to look into how templates work in Pages . . . too bad, it sounded like such a nifty universal feature to have in Finder.
    Thanks!
    Daniel

    Hi.
I just found myself in the same situation. I have a pages document wich I have to fill and archive every now and then. So far, I've been using "save as", but the stationery pad should do this for me. Why doesn't it work and what can we do about it, I wish I know.
And I used to believe that Mac doesn't make mistakes like Microsoft.
If you find a solution, please let me know.

  • Color Management in Mail Stationery Mixes Color Profiles

Using Leopard's new Stationery in Mail, I drag my own pictures to the drop zones in the stationery and Mail composites them with the stationery's background into an image that should blend seamlessly with the rest of the email.
The problem is that Mail embeds a different color profile for the composited images than it does for the stock parts of the stationery. This causes a color mismatch between the different parts of the email when viewed in a non-color-managed application, e.g. through an online mail service using Internet Explorer. The images that are stock parts of the stationery use the generic RGB profile, while the composited images use the same profile that my system display is using.
Is there a way to control what kind of color management is going on when creating Mail messages?

After digging around, I found that the behavior of Firefox can be changed to assume sRGB on untagged images by putting about:config into the address bar and changing the value of gfx.color_management.mode to 1. I vaguely recall doing something similar for Chrome years ago, but can't for the life of me rememebr what I did. When upgrading to 10.8, I did a fresh install so any mods to Chrome are no longer present.
As for Safari, I have never really used it and only notcied it behaved similarly when trying it because Chrome wasn't working. Still can't figure out why Safari works correctly when you select "open in new tab" though. Maybe this should be moved to the Safari forum?

  • Why did Apple take MIDI support out of QuickTime 10?

MIDI may not be a prevalent standard, but there's still quite a lot of music written in it.  Why would Apple drop it?  It seems like a giant departure away from Apple's usual philosophy of "everything just works." If I wanted to use an OS where I had to download an entire application every time I needed a new CODEC, I'd still be using Windows!  This was just a bad idea.

Understood, but that seems kludgy and seems to fly in the face of the entire Apple "simplify" philosophy.  There's no reason for Apple to drop a standard that encompasses billions of existing files.  The whole point of MacOS and iOS is that they just work.

  • Stationery Not Long Enough

Ok, I am in the middle of an email to my family, using the tack board stationery in Mail. I am about half way through what I want to say, and when my cursor gets to the bottom of the stationery, my computer beeps like there is an error.
I expected the stationery to simply extend in the middle as necessary to allow for my text to fit, but it rather just sits there and does nothing when I get to the end.
The 'preview' of that stationery format looks like it is MUCH longer than the email I am writing... which leads me to believe that this functionality does exist.
Is this something wrong with my computer? Is it something that I am doing wrong? Or is this all the longer it can be!?!?!
    Thanks for your help!

Thanks for checking your system for me. I noticed that you are running a G4 as well. It couldn't be reduced functionality for older machines could it? Like the non-moving time machine background and the non-translucent menu bar?
Has anyone else tried on a newer machine? Why would the 'example' in the stationery pane be different from what you can actually create? Is this some functionality that will be added later?
    Thanks guys!
