Why photoshop Lose a LOT of quality when saving in PNG ?
Hello
Why does photoshop lose a lot of quality when you save something in Png ? ( web intended ).. Even if i go through the "save for the web " or not, the result is always sloppy...
I save Png-24, with transparency and interlaced. like always.
Sometime it does a good job.. some time it is just sloppy.. Is there anyway to fix that ?..
Here is the image as it should be ( minus the 3 guide i forgot to remove ).. this is a screenshoot from Photoshop.
And here is the result.
Any idea why ?... and what is even more confusing is that when you hit "preview" in the "save for the web" tool you get the perfect picture... but once saved it will be scrap.
Both the Logo and the Menu button are blurred... ( this is not an effect of zoom here.)
Any clue ?
Thanks

For Web use, why are you Saving with Interlacing? That is for Video, with Projects like DVD-Video.
Not quite... Interlacing is used for web images as well... particularly where bandwidth is an issue.
Chorale0001 wrote: What is even more weird is when i use the blurred png file and insert it in my website, in IE the image stay blurred.. but on Firefox and chrome it is perfect.. and if you just do a "preview" of the picture itself using your window explorer, it is blurred.
That is a typical symptom of an image scaled via HTML/CSS.
The images look identical here when I view them in Photoshop. Scaling in the HTML seems to be the problem.

I am using Photoshop CS6: I also tried this on CS5 going through the same process as below with a little bit higher quality but not the original quality.
I open a PDF, Pops up "Import PDF" I hit ok. I edit the PDF by using the marquee tool to select an area in the PDF that I want to delete. I delete it once the area is selected. Then I save the PDF using "save as...". Set the format to PDF, then hit "save". Pops up "Save Adobe PDF" hit "Save PDF".
When I print off the original version of the PDF compared to the edited one the quality is a bit off. It fills up more space on the paper also. The first one is darker and overall crisper. Is there something I missed when saving the PDF to keep the same quality as it was before I edited it?
I'm thinking I may be able to change quality in the pop messages I got but I don't want to mess anything else up.You mentioned: I open a PDF, Pops up "Import PDF" I hit ok . . .
And when you were in the Import PDF dialog box what were the settings for Resolution, Color Mode. Bit Depth, Crop to?
PDF is a container format that can have images that have different resolutions, color modes, live text, etc.
When you Import a PDF that may have some of the above issues, Photoshop throws up a dialog box where you can change the settings because you are rasterizing the content. (if your PDF was saved from a bitmap/pixel editor you would likely NOT see the Import PDF dialog)
The Import PDF dialog is there to warn you that you need to tell Photoshop HOW to process the PDF when opening.
If you just hit OK, you are at the mercy of whatever settings were in the dialog box.
To make this even more important, you need to realize that the settings are simply whatever was used for the previous conversion.
So if your previous conversion was set at a low resolution like 72 ppi, then Photoshop will use this setting even if your PDF has a high resolution image of 300 ppi or more. Opening a 300 ppi image at only 72 ppi will make it low resolution and will look like crap.
Also, this automatically raterizing the live text which would have printed sharp because it WAS vectors. but are NOW pixels at whatever resolution you used. Rasterized text at even at a high resolution will never look as good as the original live text.
What was the original application that created the PDF?
It is always best to go back to the original file in the original application and make changes there and produce a new PDF.
What were you doing to the PDF in Photoshop, deleting some text, cropping the image, etc?
If you had Acrobat Pro you would be able to make some changes without damaging the PDF.
Rasterizing a PDF in Photoshop is never a good idea. -
Color Profile issues / Colors darken when saving as png/jpg
Hello Adobe Community!
I got a problem with the color settings / profiles in Photoshop and I hope someone can help me.
For the record: I Am working an a PC (Windows 7) with Photoshop CS4.
I work on a digital painting in Photoshop and to keep track of my progression I save frequently as pngs.
I noticed that the colors don't match and are much darker as you can see in the picture below:
I tried the things suggested in many forums, checking and converting my color profiles. For many that seemed to fix it, but not for me.
In the source space you can see the Profile I am using.
Many suggested when saving for web and devices one should untick the "convert to sRGB" checkbox, but for me, that didn't change anything and the colors were still messed up.
I hope someone has a solution for this problem. After trying so many things I'm getting quite desperate!always CONVERT to sRGB (if not already there) when saving for the web and unmanages apps
there are both pros and cons for tagging/untagging images for the web
the slight darkening and saturation difference i see in in your posted image is expected between managed and unmanaged apps, but you didn't embed a profile so it is my guess what you are seeing there
to duplicate the phenomenon, in Photoshop, open your tagged sRGB image, then
View> Proof Setup: Monitor RGB (be sure to turn it back off)
the shift you see there is the difference between sRGB and your monitor profile (Photoshop is in essence stripping the sRGB profile and sending the RGB numbers straight through to the monitor with no changes)
as you probably know, Photoshop normally transforms (changes) the source colors to the monitor profile... -
Will I lose a lot of quality ripping a dvd
This might have been asked but I searched and couldn't find a solid answer. If I rip a standard dvd I own in Handbrake with the Apple tv preset, will it look the same when I play it through ATV as if I was actually playing the real dvd in a dvd player or will I lose some quality? I want to get ATV to start putting allll my 300 movies on drives and accessing them through ATV but I don't want to lose any quality, I have a 52" lcd 1080p tv and I am pretty picky over the quality so this is a hit or miss for me with the atv. Thanks for any input or advice
Not necessairly true. The Fair Use law agrees with you. The DMCA law says you can't circumvent digital copy protection under any circumatances, which is what a ripped commercial DVD does. So which law wins? I don't think it's been tested in court yet head to head. But it's generally agreed that for the moment, you are not legally allowed to make a copy of a purchased copy protected DVD. The logic is that you don't own it as you have purchased the right to view it under their terms, not yours.
I don't agree with this at all, but this is where it appears to currently stand in the USA. -
Why Is There A loss In Quality When I impoer a Minidv tape into Imovie 08
I have the latest version of Imovie and this is my first Mac.
I am using SD MiniDV camcorder (NTSC). I import the entire tape into iMovie. Then I export it to a large h.264 m4v file. I am somewhat disappointed about the picture quality of the m4v file.
When I play the tape through my camcorder connected to the TV through svideo things it looks pretty good.
When I play the m4v file on MacbookPro connected to a TV via svdeo or using the TV (DVI to HDMI) as second monitor the picture quality isn't as crisp.
Any idea what I am doing wrong. My goal is to move all my Minidv home moves onto a hard drive at the best possible quality. My tapes are getting old and this seems like the best way of preserving them.
Thanks,
Dansorry for 'overwhelming' you with info
yes, all apps copy the dv-encoded material from miniDV devices 'natively' = lossless import..
but only iM08 then adds some 'loss' .. nobody knows exactly, what & how.. but you are not able to EXport lossless from within iM08 ..
example: import dv, export dv = adds blurr and 'magnifies' somehow the same file .. ( ! )
using iMHD≤6, FCE/P allows you, to export lossless = highest quality possible (except the parts of your project, which need renderning, e.g. titles, transitions...)
example: import dv, export dv = same quality ...
so, if _pic quality_ is your major concern, avoid iM08 ..
if you want fast results and export quality doesn't matter: iM08
if you want a Library off all imports ever and full integration into AppleTV/, YT.. = iM08
if you want other codecs than dv and simple use = iM08
if you want all imports for any future project and high dv quality = FCE/P
if you want easy to use and high dv quality = iMHD≤6 ..
if you want other codecs than dv and Hollywood quality = FCP -
Why does it look really bad quality when i plug my 13in macbook pro to my 42in samsung tv?
i bought this rocketfish hdmi cable to plug my 13in mac pro to my samsung plasma tv so i can watch netflix and youtube..and for some reason the picture quality is really bad. everyone says it looks great in theirs but why not mine? i put it at the highest resolution which is 1080i. Can i get any help??
it should be 1080p unless your's is only i
netflix and youtube need to have the best picture turned on for it to look good. Some are in 1080p but other only max out at 240p.
if you are in mirror mode, you are unable to change the screen size to the tv independently of the mbp.
What you should try to do is see if you have mirror mode turned on in system preferences> display>arrangement. -
Have no problem with other programs when I set color quality to 32bit. But when I start Firefox the screen looks like a low res screen. If I go look at the color quality in settings it will be at 8bit and changing it appears to fix things. Until I close Firefox and restart it then I am back to 8bit and poor looking graphics and even the windows start button will be messed up as well as the windows icon on the start button
Right-click on the shortcut that you use to start Firefox and select Properties, go to the Compatibility tab and de-select all of the settings.
If none of the settings are selected, repeat the above process, but this time using Windows Explorer right-click on the firefox.exe file, default location is C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe -
How do I change the default quality when saving a series of edited photos in Photoshop Elements 9
Say I have saved a series of edited photos using Quality 5. I then change to saving a new series using Quality 10. Each time I save a photo the quality appears as 5 and I have to change it manually to 10. Eventually the default quality will automatically change to 10, but it takes a fair numbers of saves to do this. How do I get the default quality to change as soon as I want it changed rather than having to wait for the software to finally do it itself?
Interesting point. My situation is where I change the default quality then carry on using the new quality without closing down the program. What you are suggesting is that changing the default quality, closing down the program, then restarting it might get the quality change to stick. I'll give it a whirl and see what happens.

Photoshop CS6 transparent mask causing problems when saved as RGB Tiff and placed into CS5 Indesign
Is anyone aware of a gray/black halo around feathered transparency objects. The halo occurs where the solid area of pic feathers to the transparent.
NOTE: Image looks fine in Photoshop(CS6) but when placed as an RGB TIFF into Indesign (CS5) a black halo appears on page. See visual explanation below.
This only happens when image is an RGB Tiff and layer mask is used to create transparency. If image is saved as .psd then it is fine. Also when RGB tiff is converted to CMYK then this is also ok.
Is
I look forward to anyone's suggestions.
Ideally I could just start using psd format, but I have to handle alot of images that are already in RGB tiff and it is time consuming to have to open and re-save all of these.
Adobe Photoshop CS5 RGB tiffs are still working fine.
Thanks.
Colourjam.
(Pre-Press Production Digital Image Operator)Yes the halo is does appear on the final PDF used for printing, and therefore does unfortunately print.
Why would RGB Tiffs in Photoshop CS6 suddenly cause this to happen. If we revert back to placing Photoshop CS5 files into Indesign, all is good.
Also it is not just an isolated event as my colleague has the same thing happening on his workstation.
Could it be that that Indesign 5 cannot colour manage the new CS6 RGB Tiff files?
CMYK tiff works well, as does PSD (CMYK and RGB)
Also please note, that if you were trying to recreate this to see if you get the samed problem, the halo occurs as soon as you create transparency with a layer mask and feather the edge of mask, and then save as RGB tiff. It will not be visible if you have a hard line or a vector edge.
Just for the record here is our set up.

Why does Final Cut V7 lock up when saving or rendering?
Why does FCP 7 lock up when I save anything. Just loaded it onto a new 27"mica. Can not save or render anything. Goes into perpetual pinwheel mode.
Just set up a new 27" iMac. Looks great, tools seem to work but...very frustrating can't save anything. I have 5 years expience with FCP...
what obvious thing am I missing here? HELP PLEASE SOMEONE! 0:I moved a complete project file to the internal HD and it worked fine. This tells me that the
newer iMac will no longer support he USB.2 external HD dock that I've been using for the last 3 years.
I've found that keeping big files off of the internal drive keeps my computers running much
faster and with fewer "issues." I just ordered a Firewire external HD dock from OWC. This will
likely solve the issue I was having. They call this "progress." I just wan't the tools to last longer.
At least they're a lot cheaper than they were 15 years ago. : )
Thanks Michael

Problems with color quality when saving photos.
I never used to have any problems, but just recently I have noticed that, after cropping, editing, resizing my photos, and saving....they look fine on my screen while open in photoshop, but yet when attaching them and emailing or posting them, the color quality seems to change. The photo ends up looking quite different than my original photo (the edited copy). I can't figure out for the life of me what is causing this and do not remember ever having this problem before. The only thing that has changed is a new monitor. I don't think that would have any bearing, because like i said, everything looks great until the photos are sent. (when looking in my sent folder, i can see the "altered" state of the image. it's not just a problem with someone elses computer settings, etc)
A newbie here with low tech skills, lol. Any help is appreciated, I would just like my pictures to be seen by others in the color state and quality as they appear to me, and it is frustrating.
I hope my explanation of my problem makes sense and look forward to any advice. (I'm hoping there is a quick solution like a setting I need to click on or off!??)
(using Elements 2.0)Hi Amy:
Sorry that the Color Setting idea didn't do the trick. Since the occurrence is separate, that is, seeing one color view using Elements and a different color view using email view. I still suspect this area.
Calibrating a monitor to me (as the saying goes), is easier said than done. You may want to do a web search using Calibrate Monitor, or similar search words. This will find some interesting websites on calibrating monitors you can read and try out. If you do change some settings, write down what your original settings are before hand, so if you make it worse, you can go back where you started.
There are two areas to calibrate the monitor.
1. Using the monitor controls on the monitor itself.
or/and
2. Using the graphics card (software) control. Which is normally found (Win XP) DISPLAY PROPERTIES>SETTINGS>ADVANCED> then the TAB with your graphics card name.
3. Actually there is a third one, which uses a very expensive device that connects to the monitor. At the moment this method escapes me. Mainly used by professionals and serious photo editing people.
Good Luck!

Losing quality when saving for web after using Multiply
I have a normal photograph, with a red layer on top set to Multiply/Darken. When I save it for web, regardless of what pixel size, or what uploader I use the quality is terrible.
Have tried uploading to different services, from difference devices with the same issue, so assume it's a colour profile thing.
Any help appreciated.
Image shows the difference in quality compared to normal.04dalyj wrote:

DPI is pixel size and images are not displayed on screens with the pixels sized as specified in images resolution setting. The images pixels are displayed on displays with pixels the size the display is run with. So web images display on display, display with different sizes and resolution depending on the users display device.
Images saved for web display should be saved with sRGB colors for many image viewers are not color managed and assume web images have sRGB colors.
So you images will display differently on different displays and no matter how you save them colors will vary displays may not be calibrated all displays do not have the same color capabilities.
The best you can do is calibrate your display and save them with sRGB colors jpeg or png files that display well and look good on your calibrated display.
Most desktop displays are 100DPI resolution displays where newer tablets and laptop have high resolution displays 200 to 300DPI. Even new Desktop 4k display have lower resolution. I believe the highest resolution 4K display in production is the Dell 24: display . Its resolution is 185DPI. Out of production is IBM's old 4K display which had a 204DPI resolution. -
Low quality when saving MMs pics
I've been getting MMS pics of the kids from my wife's phone (not an iphone) for a while, and they look great on my iPhone 4 screen. The good ones I save to Photos.
As of today, the new ones still look great on the screen, but when I save them the quality drops significantly. I've also tried emailing one to myself, but the quality was very low that way as well.
I've also noticed that I can't tap-to-open these newly saved pics from MMS from the Camera Roll album. In the past I have been able to. I can view them if I open another pic and flip through the album until I get to that one.
Any thoughts? Am I missing a setting about saving media from MMS? Is this a result of the recent update?
Thanks for any help!Yes! My iPhone started doing this after the 4.1 update. I frequently save mms photos and post them on my twitter feed. I'm using the exact same procedure as always, but it now appears to be saving the thumbnail instead of the image (the saved pictures are very small and cropped or resized to a square aspect.
Keep hoping for an update to the Messages app...gonna have to turn in my "Apple Fanboi" decoder ring if this keeps up
