Why PSA
The source data wil be stored in psa after running the ip.
1) It can be used to reconstruct , if we delete the data in the cube
2)we can manipulate the data in the psa as per the requirement and then send to cube.
Is there any other use why we need to go fro PSA?
Thanks for all the replies
Hi,
Used for Staging purpose.
The requested data is saved, unchanged from the source system
The data format remains unchanged, meaning that no summarization or transformations take place
The temporary storage facility in the PSA also allows you to check and change the data before the update into data targets.
The PSA delivers the backup status for the ODS (until the total staging process is confirmed).
If you set the PSA when you are extracting data, you get improved performance if you use TRFCs for loading the data.

Vishnu.

Why PSA data show red status when opened but green on PSA page?
Run RSA1 -> click PSA to open PSA page, locate one infosource and find the PSA under it, find the status column shows it's green, but when opening it, find the 1st column shows red for each row. How does the inconsitance occur?
BTW, if we open the infopackage monitor for the above one, find a weird thing is that each request get two consecutive processes running with a circle of red ball and green ball in the left frame. Double click one of them, in the right frame and click the monitor Status tab, the msg window is as following (in between two dashed lines below):
Incorrect data records - error requests (total status GREEN)
Diagnosis
Data records were recognized as incorrect.
System response
The valid records were updated in the data target and can be used in reporting.
The incorrect records were not written to the data target, but were posted retractively under a new request number in the PSA.
Procedure
Check the data in the error requests, correct the errors, and post the error requests.
Sounds like the data failed to uploaded to data target due to error in PSA, but why the status show green in somewhere? And if clicking the Details tab, all show green! Weird!
ThanksHi Kevin,
In your InfoPackage Update tab, click the Error Handling button. It seems that the Valid records update, request green option is chosen. This is why you see the green request and some error records.
This means that the corect reocrds were loaded and are available for reporting, but the incorrect ones were left behind. This is used to check the erro records separatelt so that they do not disrupt the entire data load.
Hope this helps... -

fisrt create one Cube or DSO with the same structure which you have in flatfile..
and activate it..
->now comes to Datasource tab> create one Datasource here you need to select type of data for example.. select Transactional data --> and menntion your flatfile name in extraction tab- and file type and eneter your info object names in FIELDS tab --> and load preview data Activate it..
now select your datasource and create info package and schedule it.. now your data will loded in to PSA level...
> and now comes to info provider select your cube.. and right clcik it.. and create transformations.,. and activate it..
> and create DTP -- Activate it.. and Execute it..
1)Create datasource. Here u can set/check the Soucre System fields.
2)Create Transformation for that datasource. (no more update rules/transfer rules)
2.1) While creating transformation for DS it will ask you for data target name, so just assign where u want to update ur data.
DataSource -> Transformation -> (DTP)-->Data Target
Now if you want to load data into data target from Source System Datasource:
1) Create infopackage for that data source. If you are creating infopackage for new datasources, it will only allow you update upto PSA, all other options u can see as disabled.
2)Now Create DTP (Data Transfer Process) for that data source.
3) NOw schdule the Infopackage, once the data is loaded to PSA, you can execute your DTP which will load data to data target.

Hi 2 all,
Can anyone please send me the complete steps for uploading of data from excel to BI??
Also tell me that when we use DSO or when we use infocube? and if we design query in query designer then we use info cube fields or DSO fields??
Please respond.

ICI Pakistan Ltd.Hi,
there is no separate Tcode for 3.5 environment... but in RSA1 itself they give 3.X functionality also.. So, if you want to follow the 3.5 procedure you can go thru that... in the Infosource tab--> select your info area -->and right clcik it.. ->in that create INFOSOURCE 3.X.. for that just right clcik ur CUBE or DSO and --> Additional functions --> Update Rules.. and like that you can follow the same procedure which you done in 3.5..
and for data loading in BI 7.0 from fla file means
fisrt create one Cube or DSO with the same structure which you have in flatfile..
and activate it..
->now comes to Datasource tab> create one Datasource here you need to select type of data for example.. select Transactional data --> and menntion your flatfile name in extraction tab- and file type and eneter your info object names in FIELDS tab --> and load preview data Activate it..

1) Create a data source
RSA1->Source Systems->FILE(File)->PC_FILE(Filesourcesystem)->Create Application Component(optional)-Create Data source
2) Create the data provider
3) Create Transformation
Right click on the data provider, choose 'create transformation' and choose your data source (give relevant data source and its type)
Just connect the relavant fields between your data source and data provider.
4) Create DTP
Then Double click on the DTP node created under yous transformations. choose the extraction mode
5) Load the data: there are 2 ways:
you can run the infopackage and DTP separately or create a process chain consisting of these infopackage and DTP and run.

I seem to remember in the past I could convert pictures in the RAW format to the JPEG format using PSE 7. Now all I can do is convert the RAW to a JPEG 2000 format. I have XP. Windows Media player won't open a JPEG 2000 file. Any ideas why PSA 7 doesn't have a RAW to jpeg converte?

Step by step process in BI 7 modeling
hi gurus
please send me the step by step process of BI 7 modeling (measns i want to send data from flat file to cube) iam cinfused in transfermation please guide me.
thanks
VeeraHi,
In BI7.0, they've replaced BI3.5 upate/transfer rules with "transformations".(its our wish only still if we want to continue with 3.x transfer rules/update rules we can continue using the same or using transformations)
Transformations are used to create the data flow between your source and data target.
Example: DataSource->Transformation->DataTarget
Data Transfer Process (DTP) is now used to load data using the dataflow created by the Transformation. Here's how the DTP data load works:
1) Load InfoPackage
2) Data gets loaded into PSA (hence why PSA only is selected)
3) DTP gets "executed"
4) Data gets loaded from PSA into the data target once the DTP has executed
Below are the basic steps which we follow in any BI 2004S system:
1)Create datasource. Here u can set/check the Soucre System fields.
2)Create Transformation for that datasource. (no more update rules/transfer rules)
2.1) While creating transformation for DS it will ask you for data target name, so just assign where u want to update ur data.
DataSource -> Transformation -> Data Target
Now if you want to load data into data target from Source System Datasource:
1) Create infopackage for that data source. If you are creating infopackage for new datasources, it will only allow you update upto PSA, all other options u can see as disabled.
2)Now Create DTP (Data Transfer Process) for that data source.
3) NOw schdule the Infopackage, once the data is loaded to PSA, you can execute your DTP which will load data to data target.
If you are loading data from one one data target to other, no need to use PSA, you can directly execute DTP in that case.
Hope it helps..

Why data in PSA doesn't change when update rule routine is modified?
Hello guys,
why data in PSA is not changed after I modifiied the update rule routine. I created a infopackage which is only to PSA, but it shows me any change. If I changed this infopackage to the one which is assigned to "PSA firstly, and then to Infoobject", then I saw the changes in infoobject, but in PSA, still nothing changed.
I can't figure out the reason. Any hint is welcome!
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
LiyingHI..
1) PSA data is like of source system data
2)Update rules are how you update your keyfigures to Data Tragets.
Since you have put upto PSA that is the first data staging in BW so there wont be any change of the data even if you write routines at update rules.
Hope it is clear

Any reasons why these options are grayed out in PSA? Transfer/Create/Delete
Hi,
I have a flat file mater data attri in PSA and it is not showing in Targeted InfoObject. When I select all the objects in the PSA, I thought the "Transfer" option in the menu option List, would let me transfer the selected data into the customer infoobj but Transfer, Create and Delete options under List in the PSA are grayed out.
Any reasons for these options being grayer out?
Any way to push the data from here in the the InfoObject?
ThanksHi,
thanks for the input.
No, this is not through process chain
I created infopak to load the data from flat file... which placed it in the PSA.
Then I created DTP which is supposed to take the data to the Customer InfoObj but it did not. That is why I wanted to manually push it from PSA to InfoObj.
Any more help?
Thanks -
Why does 0FUNCT_LOC_HIER DataSource only give option to update PSA?
Hi,
The business content includes a data source for Functional Location hierarchies (0FUNCT_LOC_HIER) but no transfer rules.
I have manually created the transfer rules and the infoobject is checked to be "with hierarchies".
The extract runs ok but the InfoPackage only allows "Update data>Only PSA" to be selected.
InfoPackages for other InfoObjects with hierarchies (e.g 0COSTCENTER & 0COSTELMNT) have "ALE Infobox and InfoObject" as an option to update the InfoObject directly. I believe this is because these use the iDoc Transfer Method in the Transfer Rules.
However, when I created the Transfer Rules for 0FUNCT_LOC_HIER, it only allowed the Transfer Method option of "PSA" - without the option of selecting iDoc.
Any suggestiosn very welcome.
Thanks
AdrianHi Des,
Thanks very much for your response.
ROOSFIELD contains only one Active Entry for 0FUNCT_LOC_HIER:
OLTPSOURCE 0FUNCT_LOC_HIER
OBJVERS A
FIELD OLTPSOURCE
SELECTION
UNIFIELDNM
STORNO
F4TYPE
F4EXTRAKT
NOTEXREL Y
KEYFLAG DS
SELOPTS 0
So the value for UNIFIELDNM is blank.
I have similar entries for Cost Centers (0COSTCENTER_0101_HIER) and Cost Elements (0COSTELMNT_0102_HIER) which load via ALE.
Any suggestions much appreciated.
Best Regards

Why am I seeing many of the same reocrds in my PSA when I run my infopackag
I am running into an issue when on occassion I will get the same records several times over when I run my infopackage. It grabs by date which is on each record so it should nver pull it more than 1 itme. this doens't happen all the time but seems to occur if i take a bigger date range
Hi,
Please delete the requests from PSA if you do not need these to be loaded.
This will sort your problem.

Invalid Char could not be found in PSA. Why?
I got an error message in the process chain at DSO activation level. The DSO activation level got failed and shows red.
But in the DTP monitor the QM status shows green. The display message shows
1. @5C@ Error when assigning SID: Action VAL_SID_CONVERT, InfoObject 0REVISION @35@
2. @5C@ Value '#' (hex. '0023') of characteristic 0REVISION contains invalid characters @35@
3. @5C@ Process 000347 returned with errors @35@
in PSA the data package has 332 with 20000 records for every package. I couldn't find the invalid chars for info object 0revision. I could see the 0revision in the PSA. But how to get the exact error row with these above information.
any idea?????
Thanks,
Draj S.Hi,
as you said there are 332 data packages with 20K records each, in which datapackage have you checked for the error record?
check the record no 347 which may be having the error record - try to edit it save the records in PSA and repeat the load and activate the data.
3rd column is the data request number -- check for the data record no 347 and check for the value for 0revision. if there are any special char like # in your case try to edit the record and reload.
