Why upgrade from Compliance Calibrator to GRC?

Hello Experts- My company has yet to implement GRC 5.3. We already utilize SAP Compliance Calibrator by Virsa Systems 4.0, which works fine, so what would be the benefit of upgrading to GRC? Is it really necessary? Is it just to stay current? Also, is it true that GRC will be moving from Java back to an ABAP stack? If so, when is the new ABAP version of GRC set to be available?
Thanks for your advice and opinions.

Regarding the upgrade from 4.0 to 5.3 I concur with Alpesh and Varun.
Regarding the upgrade to 10.0, current plans are for Ramp-up to be available in December 2010 with general release scheduled for mid 2011.
According to the latest material from SAP, they are only supporting a migration path as follows:
4.0 -->5.3 --> 10.0
There is no supported upgrade path from 4.0 directly to 10.0.
It should be noted that it is a significant change in architecture and therefore not a simple migration path. SAP are recommending an upgrade to 5.3 followed by a migration to 10.0 for the technical side of things.
5.3 does still have some significant advantages over 4.0 and therefore is still an option. owever, if you wish to register your interest, SAP are seeking ramp up customers so I would suggest you contact your Consultants or account management within SAP to discuss the options if you are considering it.

  • Convert from Compliance Calibrator 4.0 to Risk Analysis and Remediation 5.2

    Hello Forum,
I'm looking for other opinions on converting Compliance Calibrator (CC) 4.0 to Risk Analysis and Remediation (RAR) 5.2 (formerly CC)
I have inherited responsibility for RAR and need to upgrade it to the 5.2 level; our current ECC level prevents us from going to 5.3
I found a process that will unload the data from CC 4.0 and be imported into RAR 5.2
I want to understand the definitions that comprise the RAR and was thinking about recreating the definitions in 5.2 based on what is already defined in the CC 4.0 system; I have time to do this since there is no definitive deadline that would make it impossible to meet
Currently, I have the following definitions:
    Business Process 6 entries
    Functions 47 entries
    Risks 147 entries
    Mitigating Controls 40 entries
Would others find this approach acceptable and reasonable even though I would be entering all the information? Basically, it would be like defining the data for the very first time if this was NEW software
I would expect to come away with a good understanding of how everything ties together; at this point, I am only looking to create the necessary data that would allow for producing SOD reports that show all users with "risks" have been mitigated with acceptable controls
Thanks for your responses in advance

    Thanks for the reply
I have the migration guide and have reviewed it; I have actually played around a bit with obtaining the file from CC 4.0; I found that the data records may need some adjustments to be compatible with RAR 5.2; one of the reasons that may be leading me to do everything from scratch
The definitions currently defined were completed by an outside source and the mitigated controls were defined by the Internal Audit area
I'm not sure if they were mixed with the defaults
I'm not sure at this point what impact or changes I would experience if I use the "default" supplied rules set but I expect to find out
    Thanks again for your reply

  • Why upgrade from Acrobat 9 Pro Extended to X or XI

What are the benefits from upgrading from Acrobat 9 Pro Extended to Acrobat  10 or 11?

You should ask this question in one of the Acrobat forums. The following is probably the most appropriate one: http://forums.adobe.com/community/acrobat/creating__editing_%26_exporting_pdfs?view=discus sions
It would be helpful to know the type of things you use Acrobat for. Some features have been enhanced significantly and some functionality you have with Acrobat 9 Extended has been removed.

  • Why upgrading from Oracle 8i to Oracle 9i?

    Hi,
The company I work in is evaluating whether upgrading from 8i to 9i of Oracle database. Apart from the fact that it's always usefull and reasonable to upgrade towards the latest versions, it seems to me that the main features of version 9i are with reference to the data warehouse management that where I work we don't use. From the viewpoint of PL/SQL are there particular differences between 8i and 9i? In other words I have to point out important reasons for justifying the upgrade? Thanks!

Both versions are already de-supported. Other than taking advantage of new features that newer versions of database software provide, it is necessary to keep pace with upgrades so as to stay in support and continue to get security fixes/patches. Each new version has a "New Features" guide that lists the new features as compared to the previous release.

  • Why upgrade from Keynote 2.0 to 3.0?

For Keynote users who have upgraded from 2.0 to 3.x, what are the two three biggest differences, features, reasons you have found it to be worth the change?
I own a copy of iWork '05 with Keynote 2.0. I just bought a new MB Pro and understand from this Forum that I can't just upgrade to 3.x. I have to buy it. iWork '05 works fine - should I get the new one anyway?
    Thanks.

    MacBook Pro 15" 2.2Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

Let's see if I can remember all the differences
besides iWork 06 being full Universal Binary (meaning it runs at native speeds on your new laptop)
#1 mask to shape (not just rectangle mask, you can mask a photo to any shape)
#2 iDVD export. This is still pretty basic, but it's a decent feature (though it requires iDVD 6)
#3 more themes (many of them new HD themes)
#4 a few new drawing tools, and some of them include the ability to change the shape using a little sliding dot. This means you can change the shape of the arrows, triangles, etc.
#5 bezier tool, plus the ability to completely edit any keynote shape using bezier handles
    #6 scatter plot chart
    #7 reflection tool
    #8 group scaling
#9 calculations in tables (they're pretty basic though)
#10 new effects (and a few old ones are turned off and on by a new option in the prefs)
#11 html export (images and nav buttons only though)
#12 multi-column text boxes, and bullets in ANY text box
    #13 3d charts
#14 build items in between bullet builds
There's a bunch more little things, but I just can't remember them all.

  • Why upgrade from Panther to Tiger on G4 iMac?

I have two iMacs. I use a G5 recently upgraded from Panther to Leopard 10.5.5. My wife has a G4 with Panther 10.3.9.
Now that I have Leopard I have a Tiger install license available.
Are there good reasons to upgrade my wife's G4 to Tiger?
She uses it heavily for e-mail, internet, and MS Word.
She's networked to my G5 through Airport and we use printer sharing and file sharing.
Her G4 works great, but I'm wondering about security issues.
    Comments?
    -Bob

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Apple is still releasing Security updates for Panther too, isn't it?
I think some of the Panther software is starting to show its age limitations for Internet capabilities, and things like iTunes for all the new iPods, etc. On one hand if you're not actually having problems then my feeling is an old computer best runs software designed for it. On the other hand I am not sure you would lose any functionality if you did upgrade. I think most Panther applications run on Tiger, the system requirements are pretty similar. It's not like when you upgrade to Leopard that you suddenly lose Classic support and it requires (demands?) a faster processor. From my personal perspective upgrading to Leopard really makes a big difference in capabilities both ways and may even be a negative upgrade if you run old software the way I do. Upgrading from Panther to Tiger didn't have any downsides and had several upsides in terms of software is still being brought out for Tiger.

  • Why upgrade from CS to CS4?

We have been advised to upgrade from CS to CS4 before the upgrade path closes, however this will also entail upgrading 3 x G4's in our design studio as these won't run CS4 properly. By upgrading to Mac Pro's there will also be additional software updates we need to purchase, which in turn means we will have to update on other Macs on network. All in all an expensive business. As such I would be really grateful for some feedback as to benefits of CS4 or should we just continue with existing Suite until we find we are lagging behind and then bite the bullet and be prepared to spend out even more for full CS (we will probably be on CS5 by then)? Am i just delaying the inevitable?

As previously mentioned, this question is really off topic for this forum but here are some thoughts anyway:
    laksdjf wrote:

Sounds like you've already hit the "lagging behind" point, hence your question.
The real question here seems to be what decision(s) to make for the future of the business rather than weighing up, in isolation, whether CS4 justifies a hardware upgrade.
    <neutral questions />
Do you have an ongoing hardware/software upgrade policy at your studio? or do you tend to wait until hardware dies before you upgrade?
If you're really facing the expensive upgrade chain of events that you describe then I'm inclined to suggest that you're reaching an inevitable "catch up" point where you're faced with investing a large amount at one time rather than spreading your upgrade cost (and tax write offs) over time.
If you're running dated gear and software, have you thought about doing a cost benefit analysis of what you might gain in speed and productivity by progressively rolling out staggered upgrades over time? The speed of faster rigs and productivity gains of updated software with integrated features can often outweigh the perceived savings of not investing in upgrades for a long period then having to upgrade everything at once.
How long does it take you to get projects out the door now and what might the difference be with an upgrade policy in place with allocated annual budgets for upgrades? What are your competitors running?
In short, I see this as more a "bigger picture" business decision for the future of your studio than a simple technical one based on the merits of CS4.

  • Why upgrade from cs4

Hi, I have been using photoshop to sketch & illustrate every day for 16 years. I don't use half the tools provided. My current version is CS4, and it is adequate except that lately I have been crashing occasionally.I wonder if my old version is not made for MacOSX. I don't want to create a monthly charge for myself because take advantages offered. MY QUESTION IS: Should I upgrade? To what? Why?

    Hello,
this part of your question from the beginning "The big WHY" is answered I think.
What concerns your "Should my CS4 work perfectly with the latest MacOSX?" so don't forget, tht we here are users not Adobe's employees, we are users like you! Nonetheless, in the next link you will find related informations:
https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/mac-os-mavericks-compatability.html >>> I quote "Adobe Photoshop CS5, CS4, and CS3 were also tested with Mac OS X Mavericks and there are currently no known major issues."

  • Why upgrade from Former Budgeting to Budget Control System (BCS)

    Dear experts,
My customer had upgraded his system to ECC6, and still uses the "Former Budgeting".
I want the customer to consider implementing BCS instead.
Please let me know where I can find the list of differences between FB and BCS, and the advantages of this act.
    Regards,
    Y.G.

    Hi Yaakov,
You can look at this link:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp60_sp/helpdata/en/7b/981b57da056c48904c8a9c0df67b51/frameset.htm
Basically, the main advantage is more flexibility in availability control and key figures reporting. However, you should also consider the fact that Former Budgeting is not supported anymore by SAP in terms of developing new features; all the development is done now only in BCS.
    Regards,
    Eli

  • Why upgrade from V1.03 or whatever to V 2.0 firmwa

I have V .03 or whatever the last digits are and i havent upgraded to V2.0
I was reading that it will let you use Windows media play to transfer files or whatever...but what if you are happy with transferring files via the creative source thing?
Everything on my player works fine and its really quick and easy to transfer files...so what really would change if i went to V2.0 firmware?

That question seems to be answered with more detail that Ii have on another post but I have just done it (upgraded the firmware) and it has caused the player to freeze and other programmes running on my PC to freeze. If i was you I'd wait a while before you go near the firmware. There appears to be problems with it, judging by this forum. So check it out well first. It'd be very handy to have though...

  • SAP GRC Access Control - Compliance Calibrator - License Cost

    Dear all,
I have some questions on Compliance Calibrator implementation.
    1. Do  we have to pay additional cost for the license to implement Compliance Calibrator?
    2. Since SAP GRC 5.3 is just released, which one do you recommend? SAP GRC 5.2 or 5.3?
    3. What would be the major difference between Compliance Calibrator in GRC 5.2 and 5.3?
    Best regards,
    Rolando

    Hi Rolando-
    1. Yes, there lies some license cost and the amount should not as much as taking SAP R/3 license. I am not sure of exact amount but its nominal as compared to other SAP products.
    2. SAP always recommend for the latest version available and why not one would go for latest version if you are paying something for that.
Also, it depends on your existing R/3 version and its compatibility. In short run, you can choose per your existing versions but in long run everyone has to move to latest version. Say for example whoever is using SAP R/3 technology with whatever version, they all need to upgrade to ECC6.0 by 2011 with extension upto 2013. I am not sure of any such information about GRC AC though.
    3. Some enhancement have been done with CC 5.3. Those features include-
    1. Risk analysis for SAP Enterprise Portal and UME
    2. BI integration for custom reporting
    3. Reporting enhancement features include additional auditor, business manager and IT reports
    4. SOD management by exception. Can be integrated with workflow.
    5. Import/Export of configuration data
    6. Migration scripts
    7. Download and print capability on every report.
    Some performance improvements-
    1. Concurrent risk analysis.
    2. batch mode risk analysis
    3. Improved memory mgmnt etc.
Hope it gives you now some more visibility.
    Cheers!
    Ashok

  • How to Modify the WD4J components of Compliance Calibrator

    Hi,
I would like to modify the Mitigated Users WEBDYNPRO-JAVA Compliance Calibrator components(GRC). Please let me know the procedure for the same.
If we have NWDI can we modify it?
Is there a separate .sca file for Mitigated Users?
Are there any dependencies for the components related to  Mitigated Users, if so what are they?
Please provide me the step by step information to modify the GRC components.

  • 4.6C to ECC 6.0 upgrade - Issue with Virsa Compliance Calibrator

The issue is that phase IS_SELECT during the PREPARE is not detecting VIRSA as an add-on. This of course will result in VIRSA not being upgraded and the system will be unstable ( note 989368 ). Also, I can't choose to delete the add-on either.
We installed the compliance calibrator before SAP purchased VIRSA. So, the tool was installed through transports, not SAINT. I assume this is why phase IS_SELECT is not seeing the tool.
    Any ideas?
    -Scott

Received a reply from SAP. Since VIRSA was installed through STMS the IS_SELECT phase will not see the add-on. I had to do the ECC 6 upgrade as normal and then install VIRSA 4.0 for SAP 700 systems through SAINT.
I had to clear SPDD and SPAU as much as possible for /VIRSA/* objects. However, there were six objects I could not clear. This did not cause any issues.
Notes 1006083 and 985617 are needed for this procedure.
    Thanks for all the suggestions.

  • Is Compliance Calibrator the same as GRC Access Control?

I have been asked to look at<b> Compliance Calibrator </b>and am getting confused about what functionality is offered. I have done the basic e-learning course for Compliance Calibrator (GRC200): this was all about separation of duties etc. Fair enough. But I also have a Document called "<b>SAP GRC Access Control</b>" which talks about the same S.O.D compliance functionality but also talks of "roles triggering workflows", "users creating roles", "automated approvals for roles" eg:
"SAP GRC Access Control streamlines access requests by filling each request automatically with user identity information from a lightweight directory access protocol (LDAP) directory or HR database, thereby eliminating the need for user intervention. Approvers receive an e-mail with a direct hyperlink to the request inside the application, where they can easily view and approve the request. The application then checks for security violations before updating accounts  automatically."
None of this was covered on the Compliance Calibrator course, so what product offers this? I can see another product by Virsa called <b>Access Enforcer</b> but have no info on this... can anyone enlighten me?

SAP GRC Access Control is the SAP application that comprises the former Virsa products Compliance Calibrator, Access Enforcer, Risk Terminator, Firefighter and Role Expert.
