WIDE reports iframe region or page

HTMLDB is great for reporting, however some of our reports have many many columns for the width of the normal html page.
Because the way the redering engine works I rulled out using frame-sets, since they would add another level of complexity to the template approach.
I ended up using the <iframe> tag which has a source attribute. For the source attribute I used the familiar 'page-call' syntax f?p=4000:4150:..... however this page uses a special template that only has the body defined.
Finally my question: Is it possible to reference a report / query / or region directly such that the presentation engine returns the html for that part only ?
Still I frame works really well for 'wide' reports.
Also is it possible to create our own report templates. From the pull fown selection I can't see if this is possible ?

there's currently no way to call anything less than a whole htmldb page into your app. as your finding, though, using an iframe with a minimal template works pretty well. i'm not too sure how that solves your width problem, but you seem satisfied... so that's good.
you certainly can create your own report templates in htmldb. the can end up being a pretty powerful tool, too. we talk about report templates a few different places in this forum, but here are some posts to give you the gist...
2 lines per report item
...and...
Report customization
...and...
Single Quotes in Conditional Templates
...hope this helps,

  • Refresh PL/SQL Report Region (not Page) using Select List value

    Hi,
I've got a report region based on a 'PL/SQL function body returning a SQL query'which gets generated on selecting a value from a Select list item, The Select List action is 'Redirect and Set value' but this causes the whole page to refresh rather than just the report region. I've tried to refresh the report only using a dynamic action on the Select List item (Action now reset to  'None') but now the report is not appearing on choosing from the List. Can anyone suggest a solution that will allow me to refresh this report without refreshing the page? I am using APEX 4.2.2 and the report syntax is as follows:
    DECLARE
      v_statement VARCHAR2(500);
    BEGIN
      SELECT query_text
        INTO v_statement
       FROM sql_queries
       WHERE query_id = :P2_QUERY ;
       RETURN v_statement ;
    END ;
where P2_QUERY is Select List Item,
    regards,
    Kevin.

The report region being displayed is conditional on P2_QUERY item being NOT NULL. I assume the region not appearing is because the Action for the Select List Item is set to None and so P2_QUERY is always NULL.
No, the region is not appearing because it is conditional on P2_QUERY being NOT NULL. This means that the report region never exists on the page shown in the browser, so it can't be dynamically refreshed. (Dynamic refresh doesn't evaluate region conditions, and it only re-renders the report content, not the entire region.)
Remove the condition on the report region, check the refresh is working, then reconsider exactly what the requirements here are. If you want the region to appear only when P2_QUERY has a value, and you want it to be refreshed without submitting and re-rendering the page, then the region needs to be hidden rather than conditionally rendered, and shown via a dynamic action when P2_QUERY gets a value.
I tried adding an additional Set Value True Action for the DA event but got an error as listed above,
All irrelevant if Page Items to Submit on the region is used properly.

  • Wide report causes standard tabs in two-level-tabs to move

I know that sounds odd. So, if you have a large (wide) report, that spans the browser window, and you resize the window, the tabs will move to the right, eventually right out of the window. Very odd.
I have Apex 3.0.0.00.20. I have a simple report region with a query that has over 20 columns. The data isn't really meant to be read, there is a download to spreadsheet link that people will use. However, there is also a two-level tab system in place. Parent tabs at the top (on the right) look fine. The standard tabs, below are left aligned and look good on all pages except this one. If the window is wide, fitting the entire width of the report, then the tabs align on the left. That is very wide, filling up more than my widescreen monitor on my two-monitor setup. For users on a single smaller monitor, they cannot size it that large, and if the window is narrow enough, the tabs are actually off the screen. You have to scroll right to see them. It's the strangest thing. But, it's a pain, since they need to use these.
Anyone see this? Any ideas how to prevent those tabs from moving and staying anchored on the left?
    Thanks

Sounds like the result of a layout based on nested tables, which are expanding to accommodate the wide report content.
Solution would be to move the standard tabs region or the report region to another region position, or change the page template so the tabs current region position is not contained within a table that also contains the table containing the report region position.
This should all become clear if you view the page in Firefox and outline the tables using the Web Developer Toolbar...

  • Update report dynamically? (without page refresh)

I have a page with several regions, and only one region is visible at a time. Each region contains a report as well as a drop-down to alter the data displayed in the report. Currently each time a drop-down value is changed it submits the page, which causes the "main region" to become visible since it is set by default to display first.
Is there a basic tutorial I can follow on how to dynamically update the report output without a page refresh?
    Thanks,
    Steve

Is there a basic tutorial I can follow on how to dynamically update the report output without a page refresh? The easiest way to do this is using dynamic actions. Create a Refresh dynamic action for each region that executes when the associated select list is changed:
    h4. When
    Event: Change
    Selection Type: Item(s)
    Item(s): <select list associated with region>
    h4. True Action
    Action: Refresh
Fire On Page Load: Yes or No depending on the requirements of your application
    Region: <region to be refreshed>
Ensure that the value of the associated select list is submitted into session state before the refresh by specifying it in Page Items to Submit in the Source section of the report region definition.
There are some dynamic action tutorials on the Oracle Learning Library. Doesn't specifically mention Refresh in the abstract, so it may not cover this specifically, but it is an introduction to dynamic actions in general.
(It's probably possible to create a single dynamic action to handle refreshing all of the regions: we'd need more comprehensive details of your application, preferably reproducing it or a simplified version on apex.oracle.com.)

  • Form and report on the same page...

    Hi,
I want to have a form and report on the same page... as soon as user enters the information and submit the form via button then the report should be able to display the addition...
may I know how to accomplish this...
    Thanks in advance

    Hi
    Can you try like this
1.First create an empty page and add a html region and template as form region and add the necessary fields to insert into table
    2. create a another region with type as "SQL Query" and template as report region and add the necessary fields for the reports.
Once u entered the details into form region and created process and insert into table and then automatically the report region query will fetch the recently added row and displays in the report.
    Hopes this might helps you.
    Thanks & Regards

  • Wide Report printing issue

    Hello everyone,
I have a wide report in pdf and spreadsheet format. It has too many columns. It does not even fit on a legal size paper. I am using reports 10g to develop this report.
When I print the pdf format on legal paper, the report is shrunk to fit the page and the fonts are really small. Do you know of anyway to print this report on 2 separate pages side by side instead of one page? Or do you have any ideas on how to make this report print better with a font that is easily readable?
    Thanks

    Brandon,
    Thanks for your input.
Not sure how I can use it to narrow down the problem though. I ran it, and I see that the printers are correctly identified, the default one is correctly found, however absolutely nothing is being printed out (I typed a text in the string control, and the Print control was on).
Everything runs with no errors. I would prefer to see a bunch of errors ...

  • Wide report, no printer

    Crystal Reports XI
    Hi,
I want to create a wide report for export to Excel. I don't want to print a paper copy. How can I specify a wide "page"?
If I select a printer I am limited by paper size that it supports (I've got an A3 printer but even landscape this is not wide enough).
In page setup I can tick the "No Printer" option but this doesn't seem to help.
Depending on which of my printers I choose, I can sometimes select "Custom Size" for the paper but there is nowhere to specify how big I want the page, just the margin size.
I've stared at this for ages (and searched the forum for a solution); feeling that I must be overlooking something stupidly obvious - someone please put me out of my misery.
    Thanks in advance.
    Martin

    Navin
    Thanks. That helps.
If I clear the "No Printer" check box then I can select a printer and set its preferences to use a custom page size.
The choice of size seems to be specific to the printer model. I've got a few to choose from. One printer doesn't have option for custom page size; others have option for custom size but it is limited (some only a bit bigger than A4). The biggest I have found is a printer which allows custom size up to approx 431 x 594 mm. This is big enough for my current project. (Hurrah!)
I'm a bit surprised that I couldn't easily set "no printer" and then pick a really huge page width if I wanted it - say 50cm, or even 100cm.
Anyway. Sorted for now. Thanks again for your help (and speed with which you replied).
    Cheers.
    Martin.

  • How To control the cutting edge of a wide report

    Hi All;
I have a wide report with 3 panels horizontal per page, i.e. i have 3 physical pages
    for each logical page.
Is there a way to control the cutting edge between page 1&2 and between page 2&3 so that it comes at a specified position to avoid data cutting ?
    Regards

In general, you can just execute the transaction and then at the selection screen go:
    System->Status
It will show the program name and you can just double click on it to see the source code.

  • Creating tabs for a single SQL report type region

I would like to find a way to use tabs in a single SQL report type region. The problem I have is that there are too many columns to be displayed so the report looks very cluttered. I would like to find a way to assign say columns 1 - 5 to tab 1, 6-10 to tab 2 etc so the user can find the columns they need by simply clicking on the various tabs without having to execute the query again.
I have looked at JQuery tabs but that seems to only be applicable to more or less unrelated regions. I tried to create different regions using the same query with different columns and that kind of works, but the regions don't stay in sync if say the user change the order for column 2 in tab 1, when they click on tab 2 everything displays in a different order.
Another wrinkle is that this is an updatable report so some of the columns are updatable.
I also looked at the hide / display column solution which is described in a few threads and that may also sort of work, but it is also not quite what I am looking for.
    Any help is greatly appreciated

Does anybody know if this can be accomplished using APEX? What I am really looking for is very similar to an old fashioned client / server screen developed using say Oracle Forms. Consider an order line screen where say columns line number, SKU and SKU description is to the left of the tabs so these columns are visible no matter which tab is active. Then the first tab has say pricing information including UOM, quantity, list price, unit selling price, price list. The next tab has say customer information including customer number, name, bill to and ship to addresses. the next tab has say shipping information with say the warehouse, shipping instructions and shipping method.

  • Need to print a report that has two pages but based on condition

    Hi
Can someone help me. I have a report that has 2 pages and I need print it but not boths pages at the sametime.
    I have code ( the conditions)like this
    If (A=Y) then
    print Page 2
    else print page 1
    end if;
Note: Where would I put the code. Please
    Thank you

Some folks have written JavaScripts for such needs, but for only 6 pages I would simply do the following. 1. Crop all pages to show 1 and 4. Then print to a new PDF (not optimum, but will do the job). 2. Repeat for 2 and 5. 3. Repeat for 3 and 6. Now open one of them in Acrobat and the use insert pages to insert the other two files. Now rearrange the pages using the Pages display and save. That should do the job.

  • How do I call a 10g report from a jsp page securly?

How can I call a report from a jsp page securly? We are migrating from 10g forms to J2EE, and we want to keep using our reports. In forms we were able to do this using a cookie. How can I pass a users credentials to reports without the user having to connect to the database? Single Sign-on isn't an option either.
    Thanks,
    Jim

    Hi Jim,
If you want to pass the user credentials to the report dynamically, then SSO (Single Sign-On) is the only option I can think of.
If the user credentials can be hard-coded, then the following 2 solutions are possible:
    1. Use cgicmd.dat file, and write the user credentials in the file.
    2. In your report JSP itself, you could write the following:
    <rw:report id="report" parameters="userid=scott/tiger@mydb">

  • How to call a report from a jsp page

    Hi
    1) Can anyone please tell me how can i view Discoverer report from a jsp page instead of opening it directly thru plus/viewer.
    2) Please clarify do i need to install Infrastructure and OID for it.
    Please advice.
    Thanks

You need the AS infrastructure if you want to use connections. If you do not intend using connections, you do not require the infrastructure.
Note that you cannot pass in passwords in the URL any longer. You do not need to pass passwords if you pass in a Discoverer connection id (but then again - if you don't use connections, then you do need to still pass in the connection information - username, password, database, language, EUL)
I have a post on my blog that describes how to pass a password using an HTML Form submit - http://oraclebi.blogspot.com/2005/08/passing-password-to-viewer.html

  • Pass value from report on skillbuilder modal page

I am using the skillbuilder modal dialog. I have a report that displays in the modal. I want to pass a value from the report back to the page that called the modal and then close the modal. I have tried several different things, but I have not been successful. Any ideas?

Not sure if you have completely read the instructions.pdf that comes with the plugin. The "Events" section (Auto Close event) under "Advanced Usage" in the pdf may help you.
Anyways, I have not tried this solution.

  • Parameters and report on the same page

I am new to HTML_DB. I would appreciate your help with the following:
I have html page with items(parameters) and report on the same screen.
    Items are:
    Customer: Select list with Submit
Invoice No.: Select list - Populated invoices numbers for the selected customer
    Department: Select List
    Prod Month: Date Picker
    Button: Report View.
Users can select any of the above parameter to create a report. The problem is when I don't select any customer and just select the department or prod month and click on a Report View button, I get SQL error in the Invoice Number item.
It seems when the page refreshes to create a report Invoice Number items sql query is executing but when it does not find the customer name, it’s giving the error.
If I select a customer name, the page gets refreshed and the report is generated. I don’t want to create a report when they select a customer. I want them to select the parameters and click on the Report View button to create the report on the same page.
    Thank you.
    Regards,
    Rek

Sounds like you are building the query string and submitting that and the fact that they leave something out messes up that string...<br><br>If that's the case, you can add validations to the page to make sure they enter in all the appropriate information.<br><br>

  • How to Open an Oracle Report From a JSF Page

    Hi there,
I would be really grateful if anyone would find me a solution to the following scenario:
In my company, we have a project where we have to convert Oracle Forms and Reports to Java Web Application. The conversion of forms is being done thourgh JSF/ADF technology but how can i open an Oracle Report from a JSF page after supplying it with parameters ? Or i have to do some type of conversion before ?
Once again i would be thankfull for your replies.

    Tapash,
    Thanks for reponding.
Here is the URL I am currently using :
    https://gccss.glendale.edu:8001/dev60cgi/rwcgi60?server=rep60_crp3+userid=apps/pswd@crp3+report=/u07/oracle/crp3appl/gcccus/11.5.0/reports/US/GCC_ACCRUAL_BAL_0505.rdf+desformat=html+paramform=yes+destype=cache+p_accesscode=""
The p_accesscode is the parameter I need to pass to the Oracle report.
Currently, when I click the button, it invokes the above URL and takes me to the parameter form of the Oracle report and when I enter the Username, it runs the report and displays the desired output. But, what I need to achieve is, to pass the current user who has logged in behind the scene and to get rid of the parameter screen totally. Is this doable ? If yes, please help me !!!
    Thanks
    Hilal
