Wifi connectivity, ipad2, os7
I just bought an ipad2 wifi. It's running os7. It does not have a strong wifi connection. I must stay in the same room as router to maintain connection. When near hot spots, other networks are not found. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have changed http proxy to auto and changed the DNS to 8.8.8.8. I am able to keep a weak connection near the router under these settings but no connection further away and no other networks come up at hotspots.

Hello joe2616,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
To troubleshoot this issue where your Wi-Fi network is dropping, please follow the directions outlined below.
Symptom: The network connection drops unexpectedly
Your Mac may not not stay connected to your Wi-Fi network reliably.
Your Mac may stop accessing the Internet during use.
Solution
Use these steps if your computer disconnects from its Wi-Fi network unexpectedly.
Check your range to the Wi-Fi router and reduce the effect of interference.
If your computer is too far from your Wi-Fi router or your environment has too much Wi-Fi interference, then your computer may not detect the Wi-Fi network properly. The easiest way to check for range limits with your Wi-Fi network is to move your computer or your Wi-Fi router closer together and make sure that there are no obstructions (such as walls, cabinets, and so forth) between the router and your computer.See Potential sources of wireless interference for more information about interference and solutions.
Try connecting to a different Wi-Fi network. If your computer works fine when connected to a different Wi-Fi network, then the issue may be related to your network router or ISP. In that case, contact the manufacturer of your router or your ISP.

When is the "fix" available to resolve the intermittent wifi connection issue? I thought it was promised for the Autumn and it certainly is not resolved on my iPad2.
I had the same problem last night when I switched to WPA from WEP security. After much hunting around on the internet, I found and tried a solution that immediately worked.
In my router settings, I had to uncheck the option relating to "Group Key." After that, all devices connected and worked properly! -
Ipad2 has wifi connection but the internet doesn't work

I have suddenly lost my WiFi connection to my Ipad2. WiFi is working on my husbands laptop fortunately so I am able to ask for help.
I go to settings on my Ipad2 It picks up my home WiFi Network, when I touch the blue arrow key to the right it takes me to the IP Address page, and all these items are blank, i.e. Ip Address, Subnet Mask etc. What can I do please, would appreciate any suggestions.
Whoooooooooooooops, I do not believe it, my machine has suddenly(after 4 hours of trying via the Apple Help desk) - woken up and my Wi Fi is back on.
Still I would appreciate if anyone else has had this problem, and could let me know what I have I ???? to make it happen, or rectify the problem, totally confused. but now very happy. I love my IpadProbably restarting your router by removing power to it for 30 seconds would have solved your problem.

I was trying to installed new ios update and suddenly my WIFI connection got desconnect. now I am trying to restore my Ipad2 but getting error saying "the Ipad could not restored, An unknown error accured (3194)". so please help me out to resolve the same.
When I restart my iPad the connect to iTunes comes up and stays on until it shuts down again, I have read a report from Apple support suggesting I reinstall iTunes so I might try that again and also your suggestion which i shall also try, but thanks again - rg1547

IOS 5 and ipad2 dropping wifi connection
After applying the update my ipad2 keeps briefly dropping the wifi connection and then reconnecting, although sometimes it prompts me to choose which network to connect to. No problems before the update and all other devices are connecting fine. Any thoughts?
I have fixed my problem...
I turned off my wireless router and back on again and now its working fine..
after spending ages resetting to ipad and mucking aroung with my home router settings, all I had to do was to turn it off then back on..
Hope this helps others..
yep, same issue here.....
I changed my router channel and it fixed the problem for a while...
I changed my router to wireless "n" only and it worked again for a while..
now I have not a clue... -
My ipad2 has lost wifi connectivity at adistance while all other devices connect to new wifi.
After getting new wifi network, my ipad2 loses connectivity unless it is right beside the router. All other devices have good wireless connectivity.
Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
• Launch Settings app
• Tap on Wi-Fi
• Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
• In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

Why did iOS 7.x update affect iPad2 WiFi connection badly?
After updating to iOS 7.x my iPad 2 has very weak WiFi connection. It only works at home from about 1 meter distance. Other devices find the connection without problems. In other places (office, areas with public free WiFi networks) iPad does not find the WiFi network at all. Seems this problem is only with iPad2, newer Apple HW does not seem to have the same problem.
I have tried all fix ideas I've managed to find, even resetting back to factory settings. I have also installed all available updates to the operating system. Nothing works. Any idea what has been changed in the iOS sw that affects the WiFi this way? Any fix expected from Apple? After updating to IOS 7.1.1, the Wi-Fi on my iPad 2 behaved normally.
-
When i upgraded my IOS. I always find it hard to continue my search in internet. I need to turn off the wifi connection then on it after wards even though using the laptops and other mobile phone with wifi have a very good signal. Just like this message, i need to off it then turn it on again.
Try:
- Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Power off and then back on your router
- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory settings/new iPod. -

My Ipad mini does not see my printer. my wife's ipad2 does. We both use IOS8 and upgraded at the same time. How can I remedy this?
OK great info!
I found 2 possible ethernet to USB adapters:
By "Plugable": USB 2.0 to ethernet LAN wired network adapter - seems this will work, but I'll contact Plugable.
2. Apple USB Ethernet Adapter
Easily connect your MacBook Air computer to an Ethernet network with the Apple USB Ethernet Adapter. Small and light, it connects to the USB 2.0 port of your MacBook Air and provides an RJ-45 connector that supports 10/100BASE-T performance. BUT NOT SURE IF THIS WILL WORK ON ANYTHING BUT a MacBook Air…
One person commented:
This little gem used to be the device of choice for adding a second Ethernet interface to a Mac Mini Server and I'd been using one that way for about a year. After doing a software update to 10.6.6 it stopped working. Forewarned is forearmed – it appears that Apple is finally enforcing the MacBook Air system requirement.
Thanks for any additional comments.

Steve Schulte
