WiFi difficulties with a RTL8111/RTL8168 card

I'm attempting to set up Arch Linux on my Vaio S series laptop. I'm having difficulty getting the wireless to work, however. I've been following the wiki but it still doesn't want to cooperate. My card is not listed on the wiki but I'm fairly sure udev is loading a driver for it. wlan0 shows up under "ip link" and if I look at lspci it says it's using the iwlagn driver. When I try to bring the interface up, however, I get this error:
https://www.evernote.com/shard/s97/sh/5 … 77ad6922bc
Not sure how I should proceed from here. I already tried using rfkill as the wiki suggests to no avail

Can you give the output of lspci, iwconfig and ifconfig wlan0 up
If you cannot bring up your wifi card you can download the driver on the realtek website -> Wifi Driver
Then you compile & install it as root and you modprobe the kernel module of your wifi card.

Yes you can.  All Ipad's are unlocked and can be used any where in the world. Buy the AT&T version which is GSM in other countries

  • Want to check local wifi hotspots with network card

I've been told that my new MacBook Pro comes with a wireless network card and that I can use it to check whether there are wifi networks around.  Is there a way find out info on local networks with my Mac?

Well, it's not technically a card, it's built in, but it's easy.  First go to System Preferences (it's under your Apple Menu, top right corner), then click on Network.  Along the right side is an icon that says "Airport".  Click on that.  Then check off "Show AirPort status in menu bar".  On your menu bar, then you should see something that looks like a signal (which shows strength).  If you click on that, you will see all the hotspots near you.

  • Samsung S4 Will not work with ANGOLA (UNITEL) SIM Card

I have a Verizon Galaxy S4 that I cannot get to work with a local SIM card in ANGOLA. I was told my phone would work with an overseas sim card.  I need HELP.   My phone will not use an ANGOLA UNITEL sim card for data.  I believe my phone is still locked.  What can be done???   HELP

APN is what has to be changed.  APN stands for Access Point Name.
If you search for Angola UNITEL APN you will find several sites on line with the correct information you need to enter.
You enter the details under more networks in the settings menu, just keep digging until you find APN.
You do not need a rooted phone and all global phones are already unlocked.
It is very easy to do and should not have been difficult but it was.  Now that I know how, I hope others with similar problems will find this posting

  • I have an ipad for work.  I would like to download another account with a personal credit card just for only media.  I do have an account on my mac air.

I have an ipad that was issued from my company.  I would like to add a second itunes account for just media with my personal credit card.  I have another itunes account on my mac air.  Can I download it to my ipad without disturbing my work appications?  I see similiar questions, but none of the answers are simple enough for a "newbie" like myself.  Thank you for any suggestions.

    It's complicated.
    iTunes accounts use Apple ID's.
I currently use two unique Apple ID's on my wife's iPad 2.
I sync the iPad manually to two different user accounts on my MacBook.
It is possible (though not necessarily intuitive) to sign out of one Apple ID and sign in with the other one:
    Open Settings, Store, Apple ID.
Touch on the current Apple ID, and a pop-up gives you the option to View Apple ID, Sign Out, or Cancel.
Sign out, and a Sign In window pops up.
Now you can Use Existing Apple ID, Create New Apple ID, or Cancel.
Each Apple ID shows its' own $ balance. You might just want to use your exiting iTunes Apple ID as the second ID on the iPad. That probably allows you to share your current MacBook Air music collection with the iPad. But I'm not positive about that.
For simplicity's sake, you might consider using prepaid Apple iTunes cards (they apply to everything), rather than a personal credit card. Also limits your risk in case the device is lost or stolen.
One annoyance occurs when updating Apps: you have to remember to sign out of one ID and sign in with the other in order to get all apps updated.
All of the folders, apps, music, and video purchased (regardless of which Apple ID you use) will be combined when you view the contents. I'm not an expert by any means, but I do not know of any way to create separate users on an iPad as you can with a Mac or a Windows PC. You can segregate Apps into separate folders, e.g. "Work Apps", and "Personal Apps", but you have to do that manually, and as far as the iPad is concerned, they are all co-mingled.  Example: Take a photo with the built-in camera. It will appear in Camera Roll. Is it a 'work' photo or a 'personal' photo? No way to segregate them. Any music downloaded from iTunes, or synched from a Mac or PC goes into the same music collection.
So that may not be a problem if your 'work' Apple ID never purchases music or movies, and your 'personal' Apple ID never purchases business applications.
I worked in IT for a number of years, and I have to ask, does your IT department have a problem with your 'personal' data and 'personal' apps on a 'business' device? Who is responsible for backing up 'work' apps and data?  'Personal' apps and data? You might need to ask for clarification before you invest any money.
These answers apply to iOS 4.3.4 and an iPad 2.  iOS 5 could change some of these answers.  I'm waiting for at least an iOS 5.1 update before considering whether iOS 5 offers anything we need.

  • Getting on WiFi Spot with Bluetooth enabled iBook! I know it's possible.

I have this in the Bluetooth forum too.
I know it's possible as I know someone who got it working.
Something about changing IP Packets and where they go.
I was wondering if I have another Mac with an Airport card can I have it say it's connection to Bluetooth enabled Mac's? If I had both of them Bluetooth enable could I do it?
Is there anyway I can connect to a WiFi network with Bluetooth?
    Thanks, Internet Wiz™

is there anyway I can connect to a WiFi network with Bluetooth?
    No, it's not possible.
You can use Bluetooth to connect to a Bluetooth Internet Enabled Mobile Phone and gain access that way, but there's no way to directly connect to an 802.11b/g WiFi hotspot via bluetooth.
You made the correct choice going with an Airport card. That is the proper way to connect.

  • WiFi difficulties after v10.7.5 update

After the 10.7.5 update I've been experiencing a lot of difficulties with my WiFi on my MacBook Pro, and I strongly believe the problem is with the update because all my other devices work just fine. Also I haven't experienced any problems with WiFi since I bought it. My router is a Netgear WGR614v6.  Do anyone have any suggestions for what may be wrong?

I have this same problem. I've tried all number of things on the discussions boards and all seem to come back with no use. Luckily my laptop isn't useless without wifi as I still have uni work to do on it but the Internet is so trivial now that we need it for most of our day to day life.
My iPad and iPhone are all connecting to the Internet fine and I've tried restarting me router too but none of my other housemates are having any problems with it as they all have pcs or haven't updated yet.
Am unsure what to do with this as my laptop is such an important part of my life right now!
My only suggestion is making an appointment at your nearest Genius Bar, which is what I will be doing, and hoping they have the answer.
I will let anyone know if this issue gets resolved, or if they find a solution online. Good luck.

  • Satellite M100: Slow WLan data transfer with 3945ABG Intel Wlan card

Have just popped a brand new M100 with XP upgraded to SP2 onto our network and am having trouble with the Wifi.
Everything works, just really really slowly. Takes about 5 minutes to drag an MP3 off the file-server, web pages download at the speed of a dial-up modem and my beard doubles in length waiting for even a modest flash file to load.
Have tried the following so far...
    - Speed is good on the ethernet cable, just not on the wifi.
    - Connection speed is good on the wifi (11Mbps) and signal strength is excellent.
    - All other laptops on the network are working fast
    - I have updated the drivers to the latest provided by intel, no change
    - I have applied all service packs and updates to XP (was a brand new box yesterday)
    - Disabling various modes on the driver make no difference
    - Switching off the QoS mode in the network panel doubled the trickle of data
I see from earlier posts that I'm not the only one who has had this problem with the Intel 3945ABG chips, but I don't see a solution posted. Has anyone had success is solving this kind of problem.
The data throughput is barely usable for internet access and quite inoperable for LAN filesharing or Skype.

Sounds weird. If PCMCIA WLan card gives you good speed it means that there is nothing wrong with your Internet connection, just with built-in wlan card.
You probably should use your warranty services or better yet to return it to the shop and get a new one straight away.
In my country if something brakes within a few days after purchase you don't need to send it to repair under warranty because the shop usually agrees to replace it with new one if they have it in stock.
There is one thing I think you better try: Take it to your friend who has wireless network or to the nearest free hot spot, connect to internet from there and see what speed you get.
It could be, though longshot, that your router has compatibility issues with this specific built-in wlan card.
For example I also have a slight compatibility issue between my d-link router and built-in intel wlan card, but it is about security protocols and not the speed.
Overall it seems to me that this intel wlan card is not that good.

  • WiFi Stability with MacOS 10.4.10?

Since buying my 1st Apple computer (listed below), last October, I have had no end of problems with connecting to our home wireless router. Soon after purchase, I upgraded to MacOS 10.4.7 and suffered the occasional failure to connect, or drop-out after connection.
When I upgraded to 10.4.8 (December 2006?) the problems got much worse, and re-connection was only possible by switching off WPA encryption and getting the router (listed below) to broadcast its SSID - this was not acceptable from a security point of view - at which point I contacted Apple Support.
Apple Support told me that WiFi problems with 10.4.8 (on Macbooks?) were known to them, and that they would not be fully solved until 10.5 came out. They recommended I should roll back to 10.4.6 (using my intallation disk). This was successful in restoring WiFi connection as described in my 1st paragraph, and I have since upgraded back to 10.4.7 from Apple archives.
When 10.4.9 came out (February 2007?) I made the mistake of accepting this upgrade - only to find that it completely trashed WiFi connectivity (even without WPA and SSID broadcast). So I spent another happy 2 days restoring 10.4.7 and much installed software.
Meanwhile, our trusty 6-year-old Viglen Dossier, running Windows 98, continued to achieve perfect WiFi connectivity via its 3Com OfficeConnect 802.11g PCMCIA card - even though it and its OS were designed before 802.11 was even written! In fact one interesting symptom of our Apple WiFi problems is that: when a drop-out occurs, a reliable way of getting the Apple to reconnect is to start the Viglen (?!).
I am back running 10.4.7 with the occasional "There was a problem connecting to XXXX network" (usually repeated 3 times before a connection is established) and regular drop-outs after about 2 hours of use. Recently, I took my Macbook to a friend's house and found similar but worse problems connecting to his Linksys router - even when 2 metres from its antenna.
*My questions are: does anyone else have these problems with Macbooks and 3rd party Wifi equipment? Is this an issue of 802.11 standards adherence? Has anyone found an improvement in WiFi connectivity with 10.4.10? (which I am reluctant to adopt).*

WiFi issues have been discussed ad naseum on the MacBook and MacBook Pro forums. I suggest looking over there. The problem with third party routers is not limited to Macs either. The 64 bit Windows machines have difficulty with older Netgear routers as well. Until vendors start all agreeing to a WiFi standard keep on pestering the makers of the routers for better adherence to standards. Netgear when I called them on it even admitted their drivers don't work with 64 bit Windows machines. If they don't work with Windows machines, what chance do they have with Macs?
I have found though that your 2 meter range is actually a range within that WiFi signals begin to weaken! Probably so much wireless traffic within the vicinity of the router, that it causes problems for machines set up to pick up multiple channels. My WiFi FAQ* here may be helpful:

iPad mini with retina still having wifi problems with iOS 8.0.2 - slow or none. Resetting temporarily fixes problem it very annoying. Please fix Apple! Not up to scratch.

I Have followed these steps, and tried others, such as resetting all my network settings. At best these only temporarily fix the problem - wifi still becomes slow or stops. I have other Apple devices connecting fine to my airport express. why is my iPad mini not working? Is it related to the fact it is 3G and I don't have a sim card installed? It is the current top of the range model with iOS 8.0.2. I paid over the odds for the best, and it is almost completely redundant.  Apple - I'm losing faith. You need to keep the public better informed and fix this problem fast, otherwise I will leave you for good.

  • Why can't we get free aps with out an ITunes card or a credit card. We used to be able to.

Help me! I have 2 problems. My sons wifi won't connect. It says incorrect passcoad.Or no avalibel network. Also why can't we get free app with out an ITunes card or credit card. When I got my first iPhone I could get free apps with out an iTunes card or a credit card.

I believe to upgrade or an update is actually free purchases...so for billing purposes you'll need a method of payment...either a credit card, or PayPal attached to your Apple ID...NOTE, you won't be charged...it's just a part of the check and balance verification.

  • Slow wifi speeds with imac 3.06ghz

    Hello,
So I just got my new imac 3.06ghz with 2gb of ram and I have noticed the internet speed when using wifi is extremely slow. Currently I am using a linksys wrt54G router with time warner cable. If I have my old 1st gen macbook side by side with my imac the macbook shows full signal strength on the airport and the imac shows only a few bars. If I run a speed test with them both the macbook downloads at around 1.5mb and the imac gets a blazing 51k.
Weird symptom on the imac is the blue status bar starts to load in safari, it gets about 3/4 through and then freezes and sits at 3/4 done for a few minutes. During this time images and text on the site slowly start to show up, just like if you were back on a dialup connection.
    Troubleshooting that I have done:
    reset smc and pram
    erase and install
    downloaded all available software updates
changed the channel that the router is broadcasting on
    - router security is using wep and mixed b&g
    - other devices that work fast with a wireless connection on the router are an iphone, xbox 360 and nintendo ds
    * even tried testing with win xp and bootcamp but I haven't figured out how to get windows to recognize the wireless card yet
So i'm at the point where I'm assuming this is a hardware issue, maybe the airport antenna?
    Any other suggestions?

Everyone on here that is experiencing these wifi issues with their new iMacs NEEDS to call Apple and get this elevated. I'm out of the country right now but I'm in the middle of troubleshooting this issue with Apple. I've spoken with several techs and most don't read this forum and are unaware of any widespread wifi issue with the iMacs. When I return home I will be continuing my troubleshooting with Apple on this issue. My symptoms are very similar to the ones posted in several recent threads on this issue. So far it is pointing to a software problem but I can't rule out the hardware yet. However using BootCamp I can launch Windows Vista on the same machine and surf the internet at high speed through the same Time Capsule. Also all other PC's on my home network are connecting to the Time Capsule at high speed with no hiccups. I didn't notice the problem until all the updates were loaded onto my new iMac which I received July 18th.

  • How can I fix an intermittent wifi connection with my MacBook laptop

I have experienced intermittent problems with the wifi connection on my MacBook (2006, 10.6.5 OSX) computer and noticed that other users have commented about this same issue.  Not sure if the problem revolves around the updates from Apple or my wifi card but I only seem to loose my wifi connection with the MacBook.  I have other Apple products, Iphones, Ipads and IMac and they all retain the wifi connection.  Additionally, when I connect the internet cable directly to the MacBook, there is no loss of signal and I have no problem connecting to the Internet.
Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

After several unsuccessful attempts to resolve my intermittent wifi connection with a 2006 MacBook (I had service techs from Apple store, PeachMac and Computer Advantage check the intermittent wifi problem in store and they could not recreate this issue), I broke down and bought a new wifi card and installed it myself.  The intermittent problem was resolved and my wifi connection works fine everywhere in my home.  Ifixit's website has a great video that explains in detail how to remove and install a new wifi card and you will need the right tools and patience.  Thanks to everyone that posted comments about this issue because the comments proved helpful in solving my problem.

I got an iphone from Hong Kong which is locked one. Can anyone explain me what does a locked iphone means. How do I use it in India now, with my own sim card. How do I unlock it???

If your iPhone is locked to a wireless provider, only that wireless provider
can unlock it. Contact the wireless provider in Hong Kong to see if they
offer unlocking and if you qualify.
If your iPhone is locked to an AppleID that you do not know, return it for
a refund as it is useless. Only the person whose AppleID was used for
activation can remove the lock. There is no workaround for Activation Lock.
If neither of the above is what you are facing, provide more detail so someone
    may offer a solution.
